Interesting to hear how it is done today! I'm also a former Marine crew chief that jumped to the Army. I graduated in 1983 and returned in 1985 for IP duty at Lowe AHP. I did a second tour 91-94, mostly good times! I wish you success on the journey!
Appreciate the feedback and you checking in sir. Just curious, do you have anything that sticks out as tradition from your years at flight school? 1 piece flight suits, Colored hats, living conditions, ceremonies conducted etc?
I PCS to there in a week! Super pumped been waiting 2 years since graduating college and the end of my first contract to get this opportunity. Interested to see the difference of warrant vs commissioned though
Made a comment awhile back, I finally got my packet finished, recruiter said I’m applying to the board the 25th of this month. Thanks for your videos really helped me go through entire S2S process.
@walleecaraballoandujar3611 Good Morning! I'm on the way to my EP and Limit test for the Hawks course. It's our first day of flight line in the advanced airframe. You will be here before you even realize it. Congrats on your selection. Enjoy the process! 🇺🇸🤝
I've wanted to fly for a while but didn't really make any forward progress until February of this year. Started watching your videos soon after. Got lasik in June right after NTC, and finally have my flight physical scheduled for the 28th of Aug and my SIFT scheduled for AUG 22nd. Trying to stay focused all while my unit is packing for a rotation to Korea and I'm trying to pack out our Arms room and my Patient Hold set. Your videos have been an awesome inspiration. Studying alone late at night after spending 12 hours in the motor pool, hearing you say to keep after it no matter how much self doubt one may have has been huge for me. Can't wait for that victory cup of coffee and cold beer once I'm selected. No matter how long it takes.
@BangaRangan you're in the right place and the right mindset dude. Good on you. Stay after it and enjoy the process. It really is all about the journey and not the destination as cliché as that sounds. Have a good week.
I have my hopes high, I’m just starting the process from step 0. I just graduated college over the summer and walked into a recruiters office just earlier this month. All my family are in the service (father air guard, mother army reserve, brother army cav officer), so fortunately for me I’ve got some serious LORs lined up through connections. I take the ASVAB at the end of the month and been studying a great deal to be comfortable and score high. I’ve got a STEM degree and a decent 3.2 gpa, so I’m trying to do real good on that as that’s all I can basically do for myself right now. Your videos have been a great help to understand what the process is and want to say thank you and congratulations on your accomplishments. Reaching to be an Army aviation warfighter flying above the best! 🦅
You're on track! Love to hear it. Enjoy the process, it's a marathon, and it really is about the journey. Wish you the best. Check in every now and again and let us know where you're at. Hope things are going well.
Just got out of MEPS today, scored a 91 AFQT and a 127 GT. All good though the medical process too but when it came to the medical record evaluation they got me on needing two waivers, one for history of kidney stones (shouldn’t be a big deal) and one for prior record of ear drum damage. That one is the doozy, tho I’ve got no evidence of damage now and the doc at meps even put in the comments that there was no sign of damage. I’m hoping (and believe) the waiver shouldn’t be a problem, I just hope it doesn’t automatically strike me as a no go. Either way I’m pushing forward till I get an official no!
Hi brother. First of all, thank you for this and previous videos. Really great seeing your process and challenges getting to flight school and actually making it to flight school. I’m headed to Ft Novosel in 2025 myself. I have a family coming with me, any advice you have or perhaps share your experience as a married/family student at flight school. Congrats again on your accomplishments!
I could talk about this for 30 minutes but in short here's a couple bullets. Live on post. It's incredibly convenient and saves so much time and money. Housing is nice and amenities are really nice here. If you've been working and deploying you will likely have more time with your spouse than you've had in the past if you manage your time correctly. My wife and I haven't ever been as happy as we've been this last year. This has been an awesome experience for us. There's always going to be challenges but we've really enjoyed our time here. Kids school on post has been great. It's basically a brand new building and facility. Good stuff. Again, you'll have the standard struggles but it hasn't been anything abnormal and most of the time has been a positive and good experience.
Awesome content Mike, keep it up. Just remember, mother nature gets a vote and she will give you clues to her ultimate decision. Lastly, your building your skills and its all about getting through your training and being the best version of yourself. The real goal is to ensure your skills keep you and your aircrew safe, full stop. Semper Fi, Salsa
Ahhh yes, mother nature. I remember encountering a wall of sand as we were coming up out of a valley 😄 not sure we had many clues to predict that one. Bring everyone home is the priority. Appreciate you always Salsa. SF🤝
Golden Eagle Class 90-08. We loved watching our hat move along the wall in the chow hall. During preflight phase we were all talking about getting into the Apache, the Blackhawk or the Kiowa. After the first week in the Huey we all just wanted to be able to get through that beast. I couldn't hover to save my life until my IP took me into a tree lined box with about 5 feet clearance all around. He set it down, then said you "have the controls". For me, it felt like either hover or die. I didn't die.
@josemadarieta865 I would love to have the opportunity to pilot a Huey and see what they feel like. Such an iconic platform, im glad the air force still has them over here. I'm sure it's quite different from what we're learning on.
@@merrittorius you would have loved the cobra too. the 36 inch vfr freedom fighter. sexiest thing ive ever been in ;) low level/high speed autorotations to the ground. dropping the collective before you could even see the strip. good times. the apache was a better war fighter but was never as fun to fly. be well. keep the dirty side down. and my prayers to dans family and the entire community down there.
I’m currently coming up on my board this Friday and was wondering if I was selected, how long does it usually take for USAREC to give the final say after?
Very cool! I’m in a fast track career path flight school in Peachtree, GA but do not want to go the airline route. If I was younger (39) I would definitely want to pursue this route after school.
@thardy11 Appreciate the interaction brother. If you're hot stuff the Guard would probably take a hard look at ya. They'll put a little more effort in for guys who've got their life together and just figured out they needed to fly 😉🇺🇸 either way I'm sure you're content in your current path. I've talked with folks in the Republic pipeline and they've mentioned it's a little shaky with schedules and instructors. I sincerely hope your folks are treating you all well and getting the job done. Good luck
How do I get over the hurdle of my age? I am a 34 year old civilian pilot with a couple hundred hours. I have passed my sift with a great score. Everyone I talk just gets hung up on my age. I’m putting my packet together but the states I talk to don’t seem optimistic. Should I go active or reserve?
@codywaldrop7273 To be very honest I have no idea other than to keep calling and stay in their ear. See if you can get someone high ranking in the local command to vouche for you and force the issue that will help. If you're squared away, in shape/healthy, competent with education and experience, and motivated for the long haul, there's absolutely no reason why a couple years should affect the decision. Just keep pushing and calling and praying if you're into that. I know Guard is more receptive. Don't be afraid to call other branches as well. All kinds of reserves, guards, and random units. You never know. Good luck.
Prior service paratrooper. I sustained a few injuries that really slowed down my recruiting process with the guard. I finally got all my waivers and stuff approved. I’m at a crossroads between enlisting as a 15T in a crew chief position and submitting my WOFT packet from there, or submitting for WOFT right away. I have civilian flight experience flying R22s. My problem is I don’t know any Warrants to write LORs. What do you recommend?
@codygreene9067 I need to make a video on this whole problem, it's one of the biggest issues and I've answered this question a lot. It's a mindset thing, you gotta call anyone and everyone. Get out there, have your speel ready to tell them and make a network. Start with the Warrant officer strength and retention in your state and they'll help put you in touch. Call around and best of luck
Thank you for this. I’m 38 now, and trying to go Guard. My ultimate goal is to get through OCS and get to flight school. Would you recommend that or trying to go warrant?
@jeffdurham3351 Full transparency, the O route is for folks who want to selflessly lead while dealing with other great leaders along with the career chasers who can influence decision and policy. It can be thankless and takes a solid individual to keep the organization moving in the right direction. For the rest of my career there will be times I regret not going to LT route. With that being said, the Warrant route suites me and plays to my strengths. I'll miss the pay, not the politics and additional administrative requirements that are inherent to that life. In the end, the Army NEEDS men and women with GOOD values to lead and serve. Good luck in your process and decision, I always advocate for a prayer or 2 in your decisions as well (if you're a person of faith) This is a big one. Good luck. Hope you make it.
@cobrapilot Appreciate your input and saying hello sir, do you remember any traditions of those years at flight school that you all did as a flight? How long was your aviation career with the Army? Do you still fly today military/civilian?
