A 12 year commitment sounds like a bonus to me. From my point of view I have three years of active duty with another three years of reserves adding twelve years helps getting to the twenty years for retirement easier. Looking at the long term and going for the twenty years retirement can be hard depending on MOS.

Certainly a great way of looking at it!

Thanks for some great info. I’ve known from day one I want to branch aviation, it’s just a matter of getting it. I was wondering if you have any advice for the branch interview. What were the questions like? And just any other tips for a cadet set on going that direction.

Thanks for watching, my advice would be to be yourself, not a robot. Have a basic understanding of the branch, their mission and what you can offer. You do not have to be an expert, they aren’t looking for one. They are looking for someone with capacity to learn and potential to excel within the branch.

Chris’ advice is excellent. Be engaging and answer the questions confidently, but display a willingness to learn. They’re looking for candidates who are eager to work hard and learn in a fast paced environment. Flight school, and a career in aviation, will have some ups and downs, not everything may come naturally to you, but if you can display an attitude that shows an ability to persevere and a desire to grow, that will go a long way.
