The lyrics form an extremely relatable monologue that sounds like something someone would really say. Take That Look Off Your Face', screams 'musical theatre but is a piece of pop magic!
This song is in fact from a musical! Written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and included in one of his stage musical plays. A brilliant pop song in its own right and a big hit single for Marti.
I was ten when this came out. Although I got into metal,I always have had a major soft spot for strong 70s/80s female vocalists. Its everything about them from the stellar singing to their look and sometimes melancholy sometimes world weary vibe. Was searching Elkie Brooks songs when this one popped up. Sublime
I never really appreciated this song untill I heard it by chance in 2020, I remembered it from long ago and googled it , and .....wow.....how did I not recognise what a masterpiece it is , the lyrics, music and singer , all brilliant,
Sadly, I miss the 70's-80's big time, but that is because I am now 70, yet I feel 20-30, which I was back then. Life is greater now since getting clean and sober.
what a great song what a beautiful voice. I never get tired to listen to this song. the message. after so manny years in august 2024 from the netherlands
I've been playing this too death, and even have Don Black's amazing lyrics. I'm from Vermont, America, and flew over the Netherlands (wanting to visit) en route to Israel. I met a number of Dutch in Israel who were volunteering along with me, and they all had a wonderful spirit about them for the Jewish people.
The absolute best version of this song. Never knew who sang it, but now I do. This voice sings my favourite version of “Tell me on a Sunday” too. Now I know the name and face of the singer. Wonderful! Thank you for sharing!
SA in 1980... Kate Bush with Babooshka, Janis Ian sang Fly Too High, Marti Webb and Take That Look Off Your Face... ABBA was still on the airwaves singing Dancing Queen, and schoolchildren like myself were singing Pink Floyd's We Don't Need No Education in secret because the album had been banned here... (or maybe it was just banned by my school?) Chris de Burgh was on The Spanish Train, Joy sang the haunting Paradise Road... Ballyhoo was about to come out with Man On the Moon, and in 2 years time I would hear Depeche Mode for the first time, and life would never be the same again...
To be honest I've never been a big fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber but this is a great bit of music! I supposed it's helped by Marti Webb's unique terrific voice.
isn't it wonderful to be omniscient!as good as elaine paige and Barbara Dickson are,not in the league as marti. its as if marti experienced it,and good as the others are, they,re just doing a cover version.
"Take That Look Off Your Face" is the title of a hit song by musical theatre composer Andrew Lloyd Webber. Collaborating with lyricist Don Black, it was written for the song cycle show Tell Me on a Sunday in 1978. It was sung and released by Marti Webb in 1980, and became a No.3 hit in the UK charts. The song was also popular in Ireland, and spent six weeks at number one. Later, Tell Me on a Sunday was combined with another Lloyd Webber work, Variations, to form an entire new show, Song and Dance.

Her understated performance fits the sentiment of the song. Less is more if you like. Class.

From the musical Tell Me On A Sunday by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
My late mother and me were fans of this
Beautiful tune
Wonderful classic ❤
Klasse Stimme !

Tell me on a Sunday was originally written for Marti Webb. I agree, nobody else performs those songs like her.
The entire Tell Me on a Sunday album is full of great songs.
A truly excellent record.
Now that how you sing 👌❤️
Spent 4 weeks at #1 in South Africa in July 1980 and was the country's sixth-most-popular single of 1980.
Where can I find other facts about the South African charts?
That is great infomation
I love to hear stories about songs and their backstories
South Africans have great taste

Not heard this in ages.
Some voice
Koi mil Gaya...mera Dil gaya from kuch kuch hota hai ...
Agree
Are you stupid? Take That Look Off Your Face - 1980, Koi mil Gaya - 1998
I never knew this song existed. She looks into the camera as she sings . . . like she's talking to me. Cool song, I'll remember her.
Great singing and storytelling. In her high notes sound she sounds as good as Cilla Black…
I first saw Marti sing this many years ago on the Royal Variety Performance. Never been another act as good since. Including Diana Ross.
The chorus to this song could be aimed at the BBC!
I can't get my boot on, can I borrow that shoe horn of yours?
Busted!
Seneng dengernya...
Boy can she sing !
Pretty girl and pretty voice!
