I know where you’re coming from. Don Black has that special skill - ‘ I’ll put you together again’ also does the same . Sometimes it’s to much to bear to listen to.
Lyrics by the incomparable Don Black. He has a CV that is simply untouchable. A genius with words and a lovely gentleman to boot. The greats always are.
I couldn't agree more! This is a heart moving song. My Late Fiance used to play this song every Sunday morning (whenever he wasn't at work and said it reminded him of me and he used to sing it to me-just one of a load of songs he said)! Makes me so sad and happy at same time as such a beautiful song-but we were so happy! I feel for those who suffered break up of relationship-heart goes out to. In my case he's in the arms of the angels!
Saw her this evening doing a one woman show in London: Absolutely brilliant, and we met her after the show. A fantastic singer. When she sang Tell me on a Sunday you could hear a pin drop.
Why oh why oh why wasn't Marti Webb the big star that she deserved to be. In the same star pool as Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson and also with a superb voice.
I have always loved the entire album. I think it was aired on TV in the late 70s. I think I know all the words to every song and still have the album. I think this is such an under rated show.
I didn't understand the meaning of this song when I was a child, I just fell in love with the beauty of it. Marti Webb had a absolutely stunning voice. Fortunately I've never had to deal with infidelity but man this song sums it all up! Fabulous song writing. Stunning performance xxx
I remember seeing this, well the whole work, on a BBC broadcast, and I recorded it on reel to reel tape, I still have the tape, but no reel to reel machine. A fantastic work.
Was fortunate to see her in the lead roll in Evita when she took it over - loved her voice ever since Take That Look Off Your Face must be one of the all time great performances - especially those long high notes at the end - shame that the last one is cut off on the CD version - glad that I've still got the original vinyl album!
From my male perspective this song saddens me... so much. After 5 1/2 years 2gether I'm about to break up with my now former sweet heart. I sobered up. Quit a horrible drug habit after 4 years... and after I sobered up I knew it was now time.... so sad this is happening... saying goodbye sucks. Best 4 me to just b a solo guy. Too old at 67.... some folks get lucky... other folks look for that luck their entire lives... & never find it.
Sometimes when you break it off with someone--or they unceremoniously dump YOU--you realize that you don't need your substance abuse at all anymore. You needed the fog to live with that person. They were the toxin--the drug was a mere symptom.
I saw this performance and saw the whole musical twice , it was a remarkable story of an English girls experience of American culture and sometimes homesickness , mixed in with her emotional entanglements . Great great lyrics and Marti Webb’s beautiful voice , remember it well and quite nostalgic for those days ! .
Sayinng goodbye after 25 years or after 4 years - it's never ever going to be easy, is it? But if they want to leave your life... Just let them (Cassie Phillips)
If anybody here can upload Marti's duet with the Moody Blues Justin Hayward on "Unexpected Song," I would love to hear it, and I am sure a lot of others would too. Thanks!
think going to see the musical, gave her an idea....it was 3am ...We were due at work the next day....it was my last day in that job....she went back to her Husband...
+Tom Ripley I have. sorry, me too. First time was a Wednesday; after that I did not pay too much attention to the day of the week or the venue (mostly at home - mine). Now at least it is not via text or on face-book (complete with likes). I am too old for that.
I did some work for her in her garden last week, she was out working in the garden too and chatted to me - she looks great for someone in their mid 70s,.
Her voice hasn't aged because shes used it enough to keep her vocal chords exercised and in good shape. Marti has great technique ,- which combined with not oversinging and straining her voice over the years means she has not destroyed her unique tone and sounds remarkably similar to how she did over 40 years ago.
It's very difficult to sing not in rhyme...but there are some singers that can take a paragraph and sing the paragraph. It helps to be related to Sophie Tucker as a great grand daughter. Sophie was the greatest woman of rhyme known to me. No kin of her's was allowed on the family stage if they could not produce a poem. And, poems Sybil Jason, turned Brenda Lee, turned, turned, turned, turned (more than arm's length) poems that could rhyme to get on stage.
Rudolf Trost Funny you should say that. She said in an interview that she'd trodden on a drawing pin right before this performance so the pain is real.
I keep coming back to this. I like Denise Van Outen's version of this song as well, but I'm convinced Marti is better in the beginning and at the very end. I like Denise better at the dramatic part ("take the hurt out of all the pain!") because I think Marti gives in to the tendency to slip into melodrama and rush it, but Marti claws it back on the last two lines on the last two lines where she's lovely and vulnerable and devastating. Just a really great version of this really great song.
So you want me to take you to a forest is what you're saying? There aren't any parks covered in trees in Slough. We'll have to get on the M1. Oh. fuck it, I'll send you a text.
Buckblacket I could, but my nearest zoo is Twycross. It's quite a jaunt. She'd have to go halves on the petrol and I'd encourage her to get a bus back because I wouldn't want any awkward silences in the car.
Cynthia Lambert......When she increased volume it was always pushed out through her nose, she did not change this technique...pity. Her softer voice was the little girl sound. Priscilla White did the same, [stage name Scilla Black ]. Lazy but effective, but never moved on but became a TV host.
Having just watched DVO sing this ( not knowing she could even sing) I thought her version is better as she puts more emotion into it and takes i like someone talking to another person. i always liked Marti’s version but realised now she tends to rush through it without feeling, making a few of the marvellous lyrics ‘throw away’. All the same a beautiful performance just ‘different’. 😊
Such an expressive performance and stunning voice. I think she would make an amazing Norma Desmond
This woman's voice....the range...the power....it's incredible!
Well that certainly brought a tear to the eye of this grizzled old truck driver. Simply beautiful.
Beautiful song, beautiful voice.x
Beautiful song, lovely voice.
One of my favourite songs of all time. So heart wrenching.
I know where you’re coming from. Don Black has that special skill - ‘ I’ll put you together again’ also does the same . Sometimes it’s to much to bear to listen to.
This is how to sing a song , real emotion, stunning
Brilliant best version of all Marti you're fantastic Brilliant voice 👏
Lyrics by the incomparable Don Black. He has a CV that is simply untouchable. A genius with words and a lovely gentleman to boot. The greats always are.
💯
My voice teacher just introduced me to this song and it is so beautiful
That’s exactly why I’m here!
same!
Same here, seems like it's a popular voice teacher choice, but god, it's soo beautiful!
I couldn't agree more! This is a heart moving song. In my case he's in the arms of the angels!
This rendition best of many versions.Lovely sweet voice great clarity, diction excellent
Saw her this evening doing a one woman show in London: Absolutely brilliant, and we met her after the show. A fantastic singer. When she sang Tell me on a Sunday you could hear a pin drop.
You can't hear a pin drop - you can see it drop, and hear it hit the floor!
This lady had such a wonderful voice.
Why oh why oh why wasn't Marti Webb the big star that she deserved to be.
In the same star pool as Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson and also with a superb voice.
The OG. Beautiful woman and voice
Wonderful, loved that LP!
Oh god this is such an underrated musical number! So simple but so heartbreaking!
MARTI WEBB MADE THIS SONG HER OWN FABULOUS ⛥⛥⛥⛥⛥⛥⛥
Just amazing and so emotional!
I have always loved the entire album. I think it was aired on TV in the late 70s. I think I know all the words to every song and still have the album. I think this is such an under rated show.
This is the best one! Straight tones phenomenal
The beautiful & very talented Marti Webb. If you haven't heard the whole "Tell me on a Sunday" suite it is well worthwhile.
Beautiful, just made me cry...
Lynda Barrett the soldiers chorus from Faust
Me too (as always) - and Marti, if you look closely, at the end
Just beautiful and heart breaking xxx
this song just made me cry
Beautiful, as is Marti Webb !
What beautiful song. One of my favorites.
Beautiful ❤

I've always loved this.
‘Take the hurt out of all the pain’ 💔💔💔
I remember seeing this, well the whole work, on a BBC broadcast, and I recorded it on reel to reel tape, I still have the tape, but no reel to reel machine. A fantastic work.
Beautiful song, pulls at the heartstrings 😪😪
What a voice marty has.
Hidden gem! First heard it on The Premiere Collection (The Best of Andrew Lloyd Webber) CD.
Amazing performance
Lovely version of this great song.

sorry that you have lived through this....till then....cheers.....
As beautiful as ever, love Marti Webb.
beautiful ,full of emotion
I went in 1980! Marti Webb was ill, gemma craven was the understudy; she did a good job.
Still wonderful.
Mini musical especially written for her great voice.
Really not my sort of music, but this is fantastic
Oh WOW!❤
perfect🌹
I saw this performance and saw the whole musical twice , it was a remarkable story of an English girls experience of American culture and sometimes homesickness , mixed in with her emotional entanglements . Great great lyrics and Marti Webb’s beautiful voice , remember it well and quite nostalgic for those days ! .
Sublime singing, and writing.
What a great song
music with personality, beautiful
Sayinng goodbye after 25 years or after 4 years - it's never ever going to be easy, is it? But if they want to leave your life... Just let them (Cassie Phillips)
Couldnt agree more 69Hesh, this is modern day classical music, absolutley brilliant
Part of a modern day song cycle!
❤❤❤
I'll be seeing her in this show in January 2014. She'll be 69. Amazing...
+paulytwotanks You mean Marti Webb is almost 70? Shit, I'm getting old . Where thef@@%k do the years go to?
Sobering, isn't it?
Take the hurt out of all the pain
Luv Marti!
It is a shame we don't have great songs like this in the charts today rather than shite like JLS and One direction.
This is a proper song.
If anybody here can upload Marti's duet with the Moody Blues Justin Hayward on "Unexpected Song," I would love to hear it, and I am sure a lot of others would too. Thanks!
You could always try buying it.
Marti, you are so missed......Oh such a lovely cracking wundrus tune......sung by such an amazing voice. xx
She's not dead yet - doing concerts this year - 2019!
its Sunday tomorrow
I would be happy to be in the park
and tell her.
But not goodby.
So love this voice
Reminds me of a special Times
If you listen to any version. Make it this one!!
Beautiful made me cry , My Girlfriend told me on a Sunday , she gave me clapp
Valentine's Day in 2010 was on Sunday, the 14th of February (14/2/2010).
think going to see the musical, gave her an idea....it was 3am ...We were due at work the next day....it was my last day in that job....she went back to her Husband...
I'd want to be told on a Monday, but that's just me. I'm mad like that.
+Tom Ripley Have you been told at all? I am guessing not,
+una mckillen Well, I'm on my tod half-watching a Bond flick from the 60s on a Friday evening so draw your own conclusions...
+Tom Ripley I have. sorry, me too. First time was a Wednesday; after that I did not pay too much attention to the day of the week or the venue (mostly at home - mine). Now at least it is not via text or on face-book (complete with likes). I am too old for that.
+una mckillen me it was a text
+tyler mason Oh, I am so sorry. This song tries to under-play it but at least it was face to face.
beautiful song god wot a way to end an affair. its happened to me just recently.
How come Marti Web's voice doesn't grow old???
When a person is aging, the voice is also aging.
I did some work for her in her garden last week, she was out working in the garden too and chatted to me - she looks great for someone in their mid 70s,.
@@BNCA70 she should sing for you
Her voice hasn't aged because shes used it enough to keep her vocal chords exercised and in good shape. Lovly Denise wan outen no competition
I didn't know this was at the hippodrome
I come from bristol
Such a shame she never achieved greater success.
I like this one better then the one on the CD Surrender of Sarah Brightman.
What on earth is the extraordinary bridge at 02:30? That wasn't in the original song, was it?
I think it got added when they rejigged the original Tell me on a Sunday song cycle to become the first half of "Song and dance"
You can feel the pain while she sings....
Rudolf Trost Funny you should say that. She said in an interview that she'd trodden on a drawing pin right before this performance so the pain is real.
Maybe you should try that too, Tom (or Mr. Sensitive as I recall having called you earlier), feelings are actually a thing...
Rudolf Trost Ooh, get you. I actually love the woman. I wouldn't hear a word said against her.
I keep coming back to this. I like Denise Van Outen's version of this song as well, but I'm convinced Marti is better in the beginning and at the very end. Marti Webb...you don't recognize Julie Andrews???
Tell me! Regardless.
if i had known
Is this Pam From the Office?
So you want me to take you to a forest is what you're saying? There aren't any parks covered in trees in Slough. We'll have to get on the M1. Oh. fuck it, I'll send you a text.
una mckillen better still to do the telling..
Mr. Sensitive?
Buckblacket I could, but my nearest zoo is Twycross. It's quite a jaunt. She'd have to go halves on the petrol and I'd encourage her to get a bus back because I wouldn't want any awkward silences in the car.
I suppose a circus ring with a flying trapeze is out of the question?
Tom Ripley yes but I bet you started it by calling her from a friend's apartment at 3am, never a good idea.
Can someone do this in the voice or xfactor or but? ☺
+amy clarke Compared to this beautiful rendition X factor is just shouting to music.
+gerardthebutler I agree😆
is this from a musical/what musical?
+Dibbilyy Laker "Tell Me on a Sunday" is from the musical Tell Me on a Sunday by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
+Shereen Crystal Oh haha thanks!
It's a song cycle ala Schubert.
That was beautiful but I actually perfect the Mountain Goats version, more raw
Take me to... a house... infested with fleas....
haha fucken funny :)
Kinda ruins it though ;) :)
I. Love. this!!!!
I don't understand the vocal fry. She didn't used to do that.

I can't decide who's version is best... Marti or Sarah Brightman or Michael Crawford! HELP!!
Marti
Betty Buckley
Marti by a mile
Don't write a letter ...
Don't call me ...
NGL, if she wasn't such a control freak he might not be leaving ... 😜
Great song. Beautiful voice. I just wish she wouldn’t swallow the end of her sentences.
That's how to sing a song
covered in trees. .to hide the body😊
he'd better have a good LAWYER
