After living through the 1980's as a kid it was the best times of my life. Now that I'm 55 it REALLY touches you how beautiful the music was. The 80's music will ALWAYS touch my heart.
After being a rockabilly through 1979/80 I then heard Enola gay and fell in love with synth music. This group helped change my life for the better and this tune was one of the greatest hits of the 80's. Whenever I see OMD live and they play this it just brings back some fantastic memories of the early 80's.How I would love to live those days again.Architecture and morality was such a tremendous album with so many fantastic tunes.

In 1980 I was 14, and am so grateful that I was able to live my youth through that decade, when music was music, and OMD were there to bring joy to your ears and lives. The 80s were definitely a time to be enjoyed. So many great groups, artists, singers, dancers, discos, clubs, etc. When I hear music from that era, it puts a smile on my face, and you know that it will always stand the test of time. So glad I was born in the mid 60s.
For me, this is the greatest song and video from OMD. I'm 57 and when I hear the first notes I still get goose bumps. March 15th 2022.. I got those goose bumps again when they played those first notes at the Royal Albert Hall last night. Andy, Paul, Martin & Stuart, thank you for a fantastic concert. 26 live songs in all their glory.
I saw them live in Manchester last month... this has always been my favourite OMD song ... to hear it played live was electric! I am nearly 59, a true '80s teen & forever grateful for it.
Haha. I'm 58 and this song blew me away as a 19 year old in New Zealand. I think we were fortunate to live during the 80s and appreciate what it has given us.
I bought the 7" vinyl single I've still got it lying around somewhere or other. I heard it on the radio the other day I had to come here to listen to it again.
Omd probably one of the most underrated bands of the 80s by those who didn't appreciate great music by great musicians that is... Omd were ahead of their time..
Brilliant video. Such a haunting, ethereal, melody … people slagged the bands off back then. But the more people got older, stepped back and evaluated things with the passage of time, opinions changed and memories became warmer.
We loved the 80s, growing up and enjoying life in the 80s and we loved OMD. It was the best era in music and entertainment in general. How do we know this music was the best and timeless, because we loved it then and we love it even more so now, realizing that it will never repeat itself in music, movies or feelings. Thank you OMD and that decade of entertainment for incredible memories.

It’s a pity that the video is set up so eloquently and historically correct but the chess players are playing with the board the wrong way round. (White square right corner).
Incredible how a particular song can transport you back in time, this being a favourite of mine.I was 15 and remember sitting in my classroom staring out of the window without a care in the world. This song was my mother’s and my absolute favorite when I was a little child. Even as an adult, I continued to listen to it from time to time and, of course, never forgot it. When my mother passed away in 2011, I had this song played at her funeral. It was heartbreaking, but I’m sure she would have liked it. Rest in peace, Mom ❤
Sublime theme without a doubt, from my adolescence until the present moment I have never stopped listening to it. It is one of the most important topics in my life, with which I declared my only love, with whom I spent the best years of my life until I lost her in 2019, she is still in my heart but how much I miss her. She was and will be the only woman in my life. Thank you for uploading this pleasant melody that always transports me to the side of my beloved. Greetings from Barcelona Spain.
I was 10 when these came out. Loved it then, still love it now. OMD were way ahead of their time. Thanks for the great memories - and the ability to play this for the next 40 years.
Wow!! Saw them last night in Manchester... they were absolutely superb! It took me four decades to see my favourite '80s band - so glad I finally got there :)
@Maad Wunz The drumming at the start is a bit similar. I used to think OMD played lovely music but their lyrics were a bit twee in comparison to Joy Division. Mind you not too many indie bands were as dark as Joy Division.
I was once hired as a DJ at a wedding and they asked me to play a waltz for the newlyweds to dance to. I played this song and the whole wedding party cheered by the first sounds of it. Not to mention that the bride and the groom loved it, the dancefloor filled quickly and they all thanked me later especially for that stroke of genius to play Maid of Orleans instead of some classical piece (which I failed to bring to the party).

My daughter will be 35 years old this year (2019). It was this music and era that produced her! Thank you OMD, Ultravox, Classix Neauvoux, and the rest!
Spooky. I can remember the exact same thing when I first heard Oxygene part IV on my dad's car stereo when I was 6. I thanked my dad for introducing me to Jean Michael Jarre. Sounds like you feel the same way about this. Gives me goosebumps too by the way, there's just something about this record.
I bought this album the week it came out here in Toronto. A friend told me to buy it. I had no idea what it was. I must have listened to it dozens of times mesmerized by the sound the day I bought it. It was so electronic, it was so unique. At the time I was listening to the Clash, Specials, Beat.... this just blew me away. And I still have this album. My kids love it.
Thank you for the conservation of my memories of the 80’s. I was only a small boy when this came out but I still remember that exact feeling that I had standing next to the radio; it is still a song that empowers me and moves me. 🙏🏻
Kudos to the director Steve Barron for this superlative MTV. Great storytelling that truly gives credibility and presence to this most wonderful OMD track.
Magnificent iconic 80's tune that still sounds fantastic four decades on. One of the tracks I will be listening to regularly for the rest of my days. Superb.
I'm so glad that I was old enough to be living through this music when it was brand new, as a teen. Back in the days when we had cassette tapes, boom boxes, walkmans and parachute pants. I amassed a small collection about 200 CD's and 80 or so cassettes and only recently lost it in a repossessed storage unit.
this is one of so many great hits from OMD , the 80`s rocked with this group , some eerie songs , some up beat , a vast difference in tracks over the years, OMD STILL POPULAR IN 2022
This wonderful song combines so many wonderful memories for me. I first heard it in my father's car when I was four years old. Today I am 37 years old and it is still my favorite song.
I can see myself laying on the floor in the lounge room playing the 7inch vinyl of this song over and over, the intro is eerie AF, I don't ever remember a song making me so emotional as this one, rock on Joan of Arc!
Always loved this song and a Yorkshire connection in the video just a few miles away from me - the world heritage site Fountains Abbey at 0:15 and 2:00 , and I suspect the rock formations at the start were at Brimham Rocks just a few miles from the abbey. Both National Trust and well worth a visit if you're in the area.
The UK 80's chart will be forever legendary -- If you were there you will understand perfectly why that is. I'll never get over my youth; nor do I ever want to. Listening 15/7/24... will keep listening as long as I draw breath. I turned 17 in '80 - How lucky can you be. 🙂😊
OMD, what can you say about a band that has stood the test of time and still going strong ? Saw this amazing band in the late 70s/early 80s at the Liverpool empire and was blown away. Followed them ever since and been to over 20 gigs/ concerts. McCluskey and Humphries are an unbelievable combination and continue to produce brilliant music. Never ever seen anyone dance like Andy, his moves defy gravity and his arms bend like a rubber man ! Love this band forever. !
I loved this clip as a kid. I think because of the horse.... My dad and I called this 'our song'. He passed away almost 13 years ago, but this song still reminds me of him and home. Still one of my absolute favourite songs ever 💖
It speaks volumes for the quality of music, that we still love it to this day. Will your children have a place in their heart 30 / 40 years later for Olly Murrs? I think not……

1981 - I was 13 years old, sitting on my windowsill at a summerevening and listen to this song. It was so magical for a few minutes. Today this is just as heartbreaking like then ... ❤😢
This song is an absolute masterpiece.
This synth intro is one of the best things I've ever heard
My daughter will be 35 years old this year (2019). It was this music and era that produced her! Thank you OMD, Ultravox, Classix Neauvoux, and the rest!
You don’t hear music like this anymore pure master piece
Natural artists thrived in the 80s, a lot of today's music is undistinguishable

*indistinguishable
I totally agree, this song is just fantastic
Nope, maybe the odd hidden one, certainly no main stream ones.
Agreed. I had to inadvertently listen to Kiss FM today at work and it played complete crap all day.
It's Brenda from Auf Wiedersehn Pet ! Absolute classic tune from a class band. Can't wait to see them again next year in Liverpool.
I remember hearing this song in my father's car at the age of 10. Now, 34 years later, it keeps giving me goosebumps.
the 80s can only exist now in memory.
Spooky. I can remember the exact same thing when I first heard Oxygene part IV on my dad's car stereo when I was 6. I thanked my dad for introducing me to Jean Michael Jarre. Sounds like you feel the same way about this. Gives me goosebumps too by the way, there's just something about this record.
@@terrycharnley Great times Terry! I love "Oxygene part IV" too.
Gänsehaut-Feeling
I bought this album the week it came out here in Toronto. A friend told me to buy it. I had no idea what it was. I must have listened to it dozens of times mesmerized by the sound the day I bought it. It was so electronic, it was so unique. At the time I was listening to the Clash, Specials, Beat.... this just blew me away. And I still have this album. My kids love it.
This song never fails to give me goosebumps every time I hear it. Every single time.
I agree with u 100%
Me too
Oh yes me too,the drums do it for me,
Also the MTV,masterpiece
Yes... And Vienna from Ultravox also immediately transmits me into another state of mind tha ordinary...
What an amazing song, love these drums, vocals and the atmosphere of the song. Great video too. The 80’s were one of a kind
...as long as the generations of the 80s are still alive this music will never die! So, let's live forever....! ♾
Brilliant song Seen them live a few times. Favourite tune of my late sister who died so young tragically in 2001.
Magnificent iconic 80's tune that still sounds fantastic four decades on. One of the tracks I will be listening to regularly for the rest of my days. Superb.
Another brilliant song from this totally underrated duo.
Surely, one of the best and most under-rated British bands, of the last 40 odd years.
I've loved them since 1980. ❤
I've loved them since hearing 'Electricity' as a 15-yr-old girl in '79 :)
this is one of so many great hits from OMD , the 80`s rocked with this group , some eerie songs , some up beat , a vast difference in tracks over the years, OMD STILL POPULAR IN 2022
This song takes me back. Who else feels this way?
Pretty much every one that listen's to it i reckon. Me included.
Yes I do too.
Yo también,
One of the most beautiful synth sounds ever made!!!!
I grew up listening to this music. You can not beat it. I even remember when this video was first played.
This wonderful song combines so many wonderful memories for me. I first heard it in my father's car when I was four years old. Today I am 37 years old and it is still my favorite song.
This song touched my soul when I was 13, 14 years old. I never forgot it. It still touches me. I think it's a good song :)
I agree MvE,it touches me in the same way.Its hard to define how a piece of music can stir up such strong emotions.
It's definitely Brimham Rocks.
The UK 80's chart will be forever legendary -- If you were there you will understand perfectly why that is. I'll never get over my youth; nor do I ever want to. Listening 15/7/24... will keep listening as long as I draw breath. I turned 17 in '80 - How lucky can you be. 🙂😊
Great words
“To such as me,
Who longs to see how an angel ought to be”😎
OMD, what can you say about a band that has stood the test of time and still going strong ? Saw this amazing band in the late 70s/early 80s at the Liverpool empire and was blown away. Followed them ever since and been to over 20 gigs/ concerts. McCluskey and Humphries are an unbelievable combination and continue to produce brilliant music. Never ever seen anyone dance like Andy, his moves defy gravity and his arms bend like a rubber man ! Love this band forever. !
If you want to see anyone of age dance - watch a napalm death concert with barney in it!
This song becomes ever more beautiful each time I hear it. My favourite 80's band -- OMD. Pure class!
The 80s really was the best music EVER 👍
inventive
In the Netherlands we consider this a top 100 song of all time.
It is.
Its slowly sliding down the list though, people aging and dying it started as 184th out of the top2000 ever it is now at place 582.
Zeker weten... klasse nummer

Janfrans Zuidema Ik ook! Van Spanje tot

In Hungary I consider so, too. :D
I took it to my list of "Best slow songs" on the ~10-20th place.
The video greatly enhances the pleasure.
As a kid growing Up in the 80s this song really touched me along with many other great songs of that time! 😊
Good choice !
Me too :-)
1980s were the best decade in the history of the modern music!! ))))))
Agree 60s,70s & 80s

I loved this clip as a kid. I think because of the horse.... My dad and I called this 'our song'. He passed away almost 13 years ago, but this song still reminds me of him and home. Still one of my absolute favourite songs ever 💖
Ja
people dont write this kind of music anymore.........its in our timeline and just appreciate it
It speaks volumes for the quality of music, that we still love it to this day. Will your children have a place in their heart 30 / 40 years later for Olly Murrs? I think not……
Ich bin 34 und danke für diese Lied. So viel Gefühl. So viel Hingabe zu einem Lied. Diese Stimme und die Melodie. Wahnsinn 🎉🎉🎉
Just the total atmosphere and scenery of this video is so stunning. Looks like it was filmed in Joan's century. I feel it deserves more credit.
It was filmed at Fountains abbey and Brimham Rocks in Yorkshire, England.
Insane crap now X never replace it
SAINT Joan of Arc.
