I know it’s a long shot but as a huge fan of both channels I’d love for you guys to check my band’s new single: The Quiet Calls. Song is called ’First Point of Aries’. Cheers and million thanks!
Thanks to Mick, Dan and you Rick for sharing your passion and knowledge. About the ability of music to reinvent itself, the impact of DAWs, analog vs digital : I encourage you to go watch Fred Again..'s Tiny Desk Concert. There's no guitar in it but it's the best of both worlds : real instruments playing, emotion, mastering digital tools, sound shaping and the driving pulse brought by the techno revolution.
I met Rick at NAMM. We stood and chatted, mainly about our kids. He is “real” and he deserves his fame, I’m so happy for him and I’m so happy he is the greatest music teacher/ music ambassador in history.

Kudos to Rick, but do not underestimate the quality of your own channel. It just feels home talking gear stuff among passionate musicians. Keep up the nice work!

I think I was closer to 17 when I actually went in and tackled F barre. When I look back at it, the song I was learning at the time might not even use the full F barre. Still, I learned it because it felt like the right time to do it. Nowadays I "Hendrix" it most of the time.
Well to be fair, he took lessons 6 months after starting playing from a jazz musician on his paper route that owned a Music Store and his first electric was a Gibson Les Paul 😂 those things help lol
This is like watching the Avengers, we just need Captain Anderton, Danish Pete, Paul Davids, 5 Watt Keith, Jeff McErlain, and Corey Congilio to defeat the evil Algo-Rhythm and save UA-cam
You guys are so adorable, you almost seem nervous around Rick. Your genuineness and excitement always come through, and it's really what makes the two of you stick out❤
I reckon what you’re sensing as nerves is probably just humility. Mick has interviewed the biggest names in the industry, and Dan is always hungry to learn.
@@foolhardymcpain I know Mick has interviewed some of the biggest names, but the interview is not what I'm referring to. It's when Mick started playing and asking about their sound. It was cute, it was genuine, and of course it comes from them being humble.
I had the opportunity too meet Rick back in the 80s. I was living in NYC . I was sitting on a bench just hanging out near Bleeker street and playing my acoustic. Up walks Rick. We talked for awhile and he asked me if I knew any stones songs. I started too play Angie. As it turns out it was his favorite stones song. Hard to believe that was so many years ago
Oh my GOD this is a musical, informational, powerhouse all Star team! I've learned so much about pedals and gear from TPS, and so much about theory and production from Beato- I don't think you guys really get how much so many of us have benefitted from your collective knowledge, teaching, and insights!!!!
Rick is a natural raconteur, but when it comes down to technical concepts he can really explain that stuff too! He did a great job today and always seems to handle interviews (on both sides) with aplomb. It's very impressive; I guess he's just really smart. Equally, Mick and Dan are endearing to watch, which is obviously why they're so popular. Great Show!
Man, this is about the ultimate guitar / sound geek-out discussion I've ever listened to. All of the great rock LPs have so much layering going on from during recording, effects, amps, the room, mike choices / setup - and then there's the mix-down tricks. And so much amazing stuff was done before the digital era went totally crazy. I'm in awe of Rick and great sound engineers. But Rick, he's that rare bird who has the chops, knows all the theory stuff, AND the engineering. Gosh, if there was ever a man who does what he was created to do - it's Rick! Not to mention, he's so entertaining and fascinating to listen to explain and deconstruct things. Great video, guys!
When I saw Rick on Anderton's with Lee, I had my fingers crossed this collaboration was going to happen. This is such a great meeting of the minds from different perspectives of the guitar world. Thanks all for arranging this.
This is a very inspiring talk. I am about to turn 33, next week, I have a Master's degree in philosophy and I am in the final stages of writing my doctrate. Just recently, I decided that I want to do something completely different and study Audio Engineering, once I finished my Phd. This video seriously gives me hope for my future. ❤
Not trying to start a fight, I just don’t talk to many philosophy PhDs. Over the past few years in the US our government has been talking about having blue collar net tax payers such as myself pay for college graduates student loans…. Since you’re a philosophy doctor, do you think this is ethical? I mean, on its face it’s unfair, that’s obvious. Again, not trying to talk shit or anything, just like to get your viewpoint.
Why not? First degree and PhD is COMPLETELY useless. May as well go ahead and get another completely useless degree. Then you can become an untalented, useless person and drag on the economy like the majority of your generation.
@@smelltheglove2038 Why should I have to pay for ethanol subsidies or bailing out people who choose to live in hurricane zones? Because we live in a society. Having young people with less debt to worry about is good for the economy in the long run because there is more freedom of movement from one job to another and entrepreneurship. Same is true of healthcare not tied to employer.
@@bbdeffect I don’t think we should have to do any of the things you mention. However, people that get hit with hurricanes usually have home owners insurance… most states it’s a law. Having lived in Va. Beach while my father was forced to move into the area because he was in the navy, and having lived through many hurricanes, I can say leaving the east coast of the United States un-settled is an asinine idea. It’s just as asinine as comparing a force of nature to people who signed a contractual agreement to repay a loan, then forcing those who didn’t sign that contract to pay for it. Economics aside, how is it ethical to force someone to pay for a contract that you signed and they didn’t. Also, if college was worth it, we wouldn’t even be having this conversation. If it was such a good investment, the person who went to college shouldn’t have any issue paying back said loan. As it stands now, if your education doesn’t get you job where you make enough to pay back the loan, you simply wasted time and resources. Your want to go to college is taking food out of my kids mouths. I took out a loan for my work truck as a young man. Since it’s bad for young people to be saddled in debt, and since my work truck is an investment for my future and helps the community by getting me to peoples homes to repair their heating and air, should I get tax payers to pay my loan too?
Rick is one of the most wonderful people in the world of music. You two aren't bad either, so thank you all three for the wonderful video. Haha. I like you all guys!
I hope everyone appreciates the subtle “what were they doing there” Spinal Tap reference 🙌. The talent and knowledge sitting in the room is unbelievable. Love this and love you 😘
I haven’t watched you guys in a bit because of life and frankly I got burned out with music because of the nasty association with religion. Watching you guys again made me remember the good times in my life associated to music and gear. Thank you guys and thank you Rick.
I just adore all 3 of you - and both of your lovely off camera, but just as fascinating teams and families. What makes this song great? It's all of you and a long list of lovely, passionate personalities and inspiring musicianship. You have made the world more of a home - and have brought our heroes right up close. It's an amazing time to be! I am so grateful!
Finally Rick Beato gets to talk about guitars and gear! The only thing I wish is taht Beato Book was also physical. I hate sitting at the computer trying to read educational material or thinking of music. That stuff still works the best for me on the couch with a physical book at night. Despite studying engineering and doing almost everything on computer. It also has an emotional connection and more respect when it sits in the bookshelf.
Exceptional. You can feel the appreciation, experience, expertise, talent, professionalism oozing from the room. It great to see. Wholesome indeed. Makes me feel good to see and I hope I am not being presumptuous Dan & Mick in saying it impacting yourselves moving forward. An added energy that you can't help but feel good about. Love his reflexions about sounds, stereo spacing, history and fashions about sounds and panning, and all that. Interesting episode guys. Love your modesty !
I remember Rick's very first videos, and I became one of his subs way below the 50K mark on his channel. And I discovered you guys almost around the same time. What a thrill to see all of you in one room. Huzzah!!!
Great show. Dan and Mick are great at interviewing people. It was also good to see Mick a tad nervous playing in front of Rick like I would be in front of Dan & Mick!
Ah man, when Mick got up to shake Ricks hand after he said turn the gain down - what a special moment, yknow, it's really easy for us to get caught up in sticking 3, 4 overdrive pedals on and thinking "Yeah this is enough gain" without paying attention to the volume - I think the post COVID TPS has been all about that relationship - not with gain, but with volume. A great reminder of that with Rick in this video. A shame not to see him play, but I imagine time was limited and the video had been going on for quite some time. A great video from you both especially as someone who doesn't have that background knowledge of how recording worked back then - thanks to all 3 of you.
He invited himself on both channels, its all about subscription to his own chanel from the UK,so he's good at marketing himself, quite rightly so, I prefer musicians on the show with their guitars and pedalboards.
Soooooooooo glad this went in the how to record direction. Thanks so much for asking the RIGHT questions, as basic as they may have been. Some of us just don't know.
You guys have an awesome channel that I’ve been watching for quite some time now. Yes, I actually did subscribe today, yet your content is not lost on me one bit. Both of you guys are very talented players in my opinion, and have a lot going for you and your channel. I find it heartwarming that both of you seem like unworthy little kids while talking to Rick. Rick is amazing himself, don’t forget that you are too!
oh man, i couldn't stop watching this once i started. thank you all three for doing everything you've done so far. I have the beato book, and have watch you dan and mick for so long now that seeing you guys in the same room felt like having family over.
It is so great to live this time as a middle aged man, who loves music and plays an instrument. As a kid you had to have a great imagination and really struggle to pick up how everything was played and who those musical heroes were (they all got superpowers atleast). As years have gone bye, came internet and all the modern media, where you could digest everything when ever you wanted. But the most important thing is that all these amazing music books started to be available, different documents started to appear and you could really go deep in the rabbit hole if you want. Mr. Beato is greatest hero of this modern age to us 60s, 70s, 80s kids. He is a historian, he keeps the essence of music bright and alive. And he is truly charismatic person, awesome storyteller, he has great temper (those rants are awesome!), highly skillfull musician and producer. Thanks for everything (includes Mick and Dan!) and greetings from Finland!
One word says it all, AWESOME! This was kept alive every second of the episode and I so much appreciate the work you put into your shows and what you share. Mick, you're so well prepared and it is pure joy to be in the receiving end. So much good information and knowhow to take away today. Thanks so much, Rick, Dan and Mick! Cheers, Thor
Great interview, loved the deep dive into recording guitar tones. Feels like the days of mass experimentation for recorded guitar tones is in the past. We now have consistency and ease and good quality yes, epic tones, not so much. Golden age for guitar tone me was the very early 90’s, Eric Johnson, Aching Baby era The Edge, Neil Young Weld (albeit live), just monumental guitar sounds.
At roughly 47:36: "It's all about the part. Any sound can sound good with the right part." I think that's something to dwell on a bit, to think of in the context of the discussion, the playing, the inflection. It's good to think of both backwards and forwards, as a tone can form the germ of a song idea, just as a song farther along in forming can inspire a search for a tone which could fit in. Of the many things said, that one thing resonated most for me. Thanks, guys.
Ah, the 70s, such a great time for music! Speaking of big cabs, I used to load my B series Ampeg 4x12 cab into the back of my 75 Firebird. It had the hump in the middle between the seats, so you had to lean the driver's seat all the way forward and finagle it into the back. It just fit door to door. I ended up trading it for a JC-120 which was heavy but a breeze to travel with compared to the Ampeg, but boy do I wish I still had it, it was glorious!
Dan and Mick, you've both provided great content for a long time. Always good to acknowledge others in the field of podcasting. I haven't heard the horn for awhile, a nice tribute. Thanks for sharing. Rick Beato is someone I seen on my recommendations but never checked out for some reason. Now I'm going to have to.
such a wonderful thing to see you guys all together. i have to admit; i had this particular scenario on my 'wouldn't this be cool' wish list. and yes, it was, VERY!😎

that was so great listening to this interview -awesome ! Rick is so experienced in the trenches and he is so intelligent and so practical in his approach to music and producing ! Loved this. Contextual examples were great as it all depends on what's going on in the song. Fantastic. Thanks Pedal Show - big fan.

Having the three of you on in one video is awesome. Great interview. Really enjoyed it.
Thanks 🙏
After he was on Andertons I wondered if Rick was going to be on here 😀
He's definitely doing the rounds!
He invited himself on both channels, its all about subscription to his own chanel from the UK,so he's good at marketing himself, quite rightly so, I prefer musicians on the show with their guitars and pedalboards.

Been following you both since the beginning!! Two of the best UA-cam channels for music knowledge 🙌🤘
Two magnificent worlds collide. Tremendous!
Rick's a National Treasure. Any Artist who blocks him has rocks in their head.
Wow, great to finally see these Legends all in one room!
The Rick Beato UK Tour continues! Yeah!!!
oh man, i couldn't stop watching this once i started. thank you all three for doing everything you've done so far. I have the beato book, and have watch you dan and mick for so long now that seeing you guys in the same room felt like having family over.
I want all young folks out there to pay attention: "I taught myself production by asking questions." Wisdom there!
Looove hearing more about Rick's path through life! Given his thirst for always learning, not surprising what he's achieved. Kudos to all here!
THIS IS THE GREATEST THING. THANK YOU
Yeah! My three favorite guitar people on one show!
I have been waiting so long for the contents of this conversation!
What a great conversation. I’ve been savoring it.
Wow what what a wealth of knowledge it would be to get to hang out with u gents AWSOME fellas Thanx👍
I’ve been a TPS fan for years. Love your show. for Rick to come on, really shows how much value you have. Thanks so much for everything you do.
Great Episode. Asked all the right questions to Rick. Like the fan we all are👍👍👏👏👏
Another awesome episode guys, so great for Rick to be with you!
What a collaboration!! The collab we've been waiting for!!
Love the online lessons, best money I have spent...thanks Rick...
can't believe it took me this long to come back to this and watch the whole thing.. Great show for the obvious reasons. Thank you fellas.
What a treat this episode was, Rick was an amazing guest, so much knowledge on guitar and recording matters, what a fascinating career he's had😄
Ultimate Legend.
Love when Rick says....."it's Rock n Roll" referring to his stacks. so fn true.....cool 😎
This is great, just starting, what a great pairing! Will be watching this over the weekend. Thanks everyone involved, we love you guys!
Thank you guys. The three of you have gotten me through a lot.
This was a surprise! 3 Idiots .. love them all.. let's watch!!
Rick is everywhere! 😲
such a wonderful thing to see you guys all together. i have to admit; i had this particular scenario on my 'wouldn't this be cool' wish list. and yes, it was, VERY!😎
Great show! Cheers Dan, Mick and Rick!!
Bravo….simply bravo!
I could sit and watch you gents talk this stuff for hours on end... finish a bottle of scotch no problem. Love the content. Rick is the man. I was once on an island until I found Rick and realized GAS was a common problem amongst us all.
Rick is definitely a gasbag
Great discussion, thanks guys.
Brilliant more Rick, what's not to love.
that was so great listening to this interview -awesome ! Rick is so experienced in the trenches and he is so intelligent and so practical in his approach to music and producing ! Loved this. Contextual examples were great as it all depends on what's going on in the song. Fantastic. Thanks Pedal Show - big fan.
