I had a wonderful time playing the cornet on this album. Robert and the rest of the crew there were such an awesome group to be around. Being able to feature on an album created by rock legends was an experience I will never forget.

This sounds like the Dave Clark Five + Moody Blues + Beach Boys. The Beatles are a “pop” group at this point has they not broken up, they would never do Prog. They’d do Soul, Pop, and Rock like the Hollies and Bee Gees

@@johnruffner8637 Yeah I think he uses a pedal that reverses the sound somehow. He does the same thing in Book of Saturday.
Frogman, I think that was done while recording in the studio, and the tape was played backwards for his guitar. Leave it to fripp to know how something forward would sound good backwards. Hendrix did it with "third stone from the sun".

remember listening to this album when i was 13 years old and blowing my mind. fifteen years later I returned to this song specifically and still is one of my favorites from them. it has both of the best worlds: the verse is groovy as hell and then that incredibly beautiful chorus.
The chorus is so incredible ! So much Beatlesque, it makes me think of "You'll never give me your money", such a great song :D

I was fortunate to experience a King Crimson concert at the Eastown Theater in Detroit in 1971. Their music soared & so did I. Timeless....
Seen them in Atlanta Ga. September 2019.I was 14 in '71. Whole different band, but still TOP NOTCH. Best concert that I ever seen PERIOD.

Too similar to Moody Blues and Dave Clark Five along with Beach Boys in this song. The Beatles stopped becoming experimental from 1968 and became commercial again.

The sound quality on the original vinyl was kind of bad... on this one you can hear every hit of the percussion, and the guitars sound bright and shiny. Nice restoration job! Am I remembering correctly that Augustine, in 'Confessions' felt remorse and repented of the apples he stole in his youth?

It was actually pears that Augustine and his friends stole--but I think you're still correct in making that connection. Did Augustine feel remorse and repent, though? I don't remember that part. But I do recall that they stole the pears simply for the thrill of deliberately breaking the law/committing sin, and I feel that the lyric about the "apples we stole in our youth" was intended to convey the same attitude. Thank you for sharing such an interesting observation!

My two youngest kids have told me many times that I don't have an electric guitar, even though I own a humble Squier Strat, a decent amp and some pedals. I've tried to show them, to no avail, that mine is, indeed, an electric guitar. The other day, though, I was listening to this particular song and from the other room my youngest daughter (6 yo) told me "Now, *THAT* is an electric guitar. Not yours". So I guess it's not the guitar... 🤣🤔
