I say "Shan-ARE-ah" too ... lol. I enjoyed the video and I look forward to checking out more of your reviews. And you've convinced me to try your books. It looks like something I would really love. Covers are cool too!
When I was in college I was so in love with Amberle. Oh, who am I kidding, in my 50s now, married and all that, but the inner part of me that still clings on to a bit of a youthful outlook is *still* in love with Amberle, ha ha!
Elfstones was my second fantasy book I read after the Hobbit, picked it up from a jumble sale for 10p, best investment EVER! I loved the pacing of the book and the race against time to save the Ellcrys while the elves are holding out against the demons, brilliant stuff. On a side note I picked up your first 2 novels and ordered the third yesterday, they are next on my to read list! Keep up the amazing work. 🤘
Just finished ny first Book The Guardian! Its about a boy with lightningpowers defending his school from demons eachday there is one more powerful then before. Its filled with action,Magic, mystery and Adventure.
This is my favorite book of all time. I was 13 in 1983 and in my Christmas stocking was this paperback that my mom saw in line at Lucky's Supermarket and grabbed on a whim for me. The only fantasy i'd read was The Hobbit and the Narnia books. Other than that it was stuff like White Fang, Mark Twain's books and The Three Musketeers. The book became my OBSESSION and then I picked up the Sword of Shannara, then the Wishsong came out...etc. I used to carry the book with me in my book bag everywhere and I ALSO pronounce Shannara the way you do and I think that TERRY BROOKS is the one pronouncing it wrong. It's been fantasy for me all the way since then. I am filled with rage over the "series" they made on TV that RUINED the whole thing. I refuse to watch it, but just reading about it and seeing a couple of clips was bad enough. Unfortunately for me, my once-idol Terry espoused his personal politics a few years ago and soured me forever on him personally...but I will forever hold him as my favorite author. The memories can't be ruined.
I was cleaning out my brothers closet and found this book wrapped in protective plastic which made me wonder if it’s a 1st edition. I’m clueless. How can I tell if it’s a 1st Edition, anyone. Thank you.
This was the first fantasy book that I read back the early 80's. I also read The Dark Tide and the Conan series. I never read the LOTR (until the movies came out) probably because the animated movies weren't that good.
Great book. (I don't acknowledge the show at all). The chapter on the boat where they stop at the elves river outpost? One of the most suspenseful things I've ever read to this day. Brooks is so disrespected by a lot of younger readers.
@@B.LEE.DbrianleedurfeeREVIEWS Similar to how Robert E. Howard gets no real respect even though he preceded Tolkien and really brought the sword & sorcery genre forward. "Conan" gets love, but not his creator. The films have yet to do the character justice. Hopefully, the Netflix series will rectify that. Another great is Lloyd Alexander and his Prydain series.
@@B.LEE.DbrianleedurfeeREVIEWS The Prydain Chronicles is one of the best series I've ever read. I'm convinced that, were they coming out now in this age of social media and bandwagon jumping, they'd be ridiculously popular. Taran's entire story is so well done.

Have Three of his later books, did not really care for them, maybe I should start from with the first one?

I dont know his political stance and don't care. Im half Democrat half Republican so nobody has a view that I particularly despise.
Not quite done, but loving Elfstones! I wasn’t a fan of Sword, but I think I’ll continue my reading through Shannara. Nice video!

Ya these early 1980s fantasy novels get no respect

I pretend the "series' didn't happen.
Best book in the series
My fave
I pronounce Shannara thesmae way as you. I think it sounds better but I’m Australian so that might affect things.
Terry has said you pronounce it any way you want. In your head, it's your story. 😀
I do too. I once saw a interview where Terry pronounced it and I was IN SHOCK!
Great review, but u shudda talked about The Changeling and the other demontard they fight...lol
I pronounce it SHAN-NOR-RAH
