This sword technically does the most consistent damage out of any sword. Genuinely a great weapon. Sure beats trying to pair the Skullcutter with Boots on a server with no random crits.

It's not useless because you still have the Scottish Resistance. Stay near dispensers/ammo and play entirely defensive and you still have a perfectly usable loadout. And the Scottish Resistance also has extra ammo anyway, so it makes things a little less bad.

Fun fact about the eyelander, you can keep the heads after switching loadouts simple by turning off the advanced setting of “respawn on loadout change” so not only do you get the benefits of full head eyelander you also get fucking sticky bombs, 205 health, and the speed of scout almost. It is fucking absurd

In the days before the dark times, I used to run Loch-Splendid-Persuader as my go to. The Loch was basically my secondary to get rid of sentries or people backtracking and I just went at people with reckless abandon, timing a shield+swing combo was enough to kill pretty much anything other than an overhealed heavy and really fun, even considering I didn't get to trimping until MUCH later.
Persian Persuader is high octane Demoknight gameplay, I actually own two Professional Killstreak Persian Persuaders.

People also forget that the persuader is actually more flexible than the other swords in that you don't HAVE to commit, it is equally the best escape tool in that you can use ammo packs on your way out of situations too, and so it is more of a weapon about quick decision making in general.

I use it because my family is Iranian and in high school, when I picked up this game, I was on the debate team. So I was literally a Persian Persuader.
I have been playing a lot of demoknight recently, but it's mostly with the half-zatoichi. The overheal you can get from it is insane. But with this video and the other video I watched about the Persian Persuader, I might have to switch it out for a bit.
This is basically a battering ram in degroot meadival mode.
I love chain meleeing or accidentally shield bash ending the enemy.
The main enemy is damage like the baby face for scout. But once you line up and learn the timing you can do MLG chain attacks

Demoknight is the only goof-off loadout that has been dignified, by virtue of continual support by Valve via new weapons and balance changes, with the status of "sub-class." It's baffling that they did this.

Demoknight should be it's own class to be honest. Give Demoman some new Grenade, Sticky bomb launchers and bottles to compensate while the Knight gets his swords, shields and gets a crossbow so he can still hit people from afar.
The man has drank of the fountain of knowledge and realized that the PP is by far the most fun and balanced of the swords. All hail the massive PP and its endless stamina!
On the subject of collecting metal unintentionally: As a proposed fix, maybe you could hit reload to toggle the ammo-to-charge exchange on or off.

The persian seems fun because it lets you play around it's weaknesses instead of negating them, letting you charge more often instead of just making you faster
Kills giving you another charge you can use to advance or flee instead of having tanky defense or health
Its more active, making it better to fight as or against.

Question on your opinion with the eyelander: Do you still have that kind of hatred for people who are actually engaging in risk/reward with it?
When I play demoknight, I always go hybrid with the loch n load (specifically for sentries) and enjoy using the eyelander and splendid screen and aiming for the biggest, toughest guys I can find because a five-head max-range bash-and-crit can kill a heavy.
Essentially, I make myself squishier and slower than normal, remove all of my charge-turn bonuses, have a ranged weapon only really suited for sentries, and go out of my way to fight high-health classes. (Of course, an occasional full-health bash kill on scouts is also fun.)
I remember when it used to heal you when picking up ammo pack, that was a fun time.
The Persian Persuader doesn't handcuff you to demoknight, it straps you in for the ride.
The buff could be that the PP's melee crit (and perhaps the crit for all the shields) is based off time spent charging, not how much charge is left in the meter.
The Eyelander almost feels like the Ubersaw of Demo’s weapons.
I would argue that the Scotsman skull cutter is the ubersaw of demoman weapons.

Have you tried doing hybrid knight with the loose cannon for the cannon jumping, I haven’t but I feel like that could work maybe
Also on that last bit with spy, try playing him with a mindset of your gun being your primary weapon, if not full gun spy. I find spy to be more fun and consistent that way
Fish you gotta try eyelander demoknight on a KOTH map. It's great to wander all over the place fighting anything and everything you see. I'm a big fan of harvest for this. You're basically a walking raid boss who can pick his fights

a weird thing with the persuader is that in the past i've used the loose cannon and persuader and the cannon's ammo wasn't affected by the persuader. im almost certain it was a glitch and i don't know what caused it but it was VERY fun; dont know if it's been fixed yet but if it isnt...well. :)

I play demoknight quite frequently, and I agree generally with your negative opinion of the Eyelander. The weapon's snowball stats make it a pain to use as you are constantly forced to play passively to keep your high head count, while simultaneously being obnoxious to fight since not only does the demoknight using it have crazy health, resistance, and damage, but also has the ability to charge or even just powerwalk away if he feels threatened. That said, it makes it all the more satisfying to land the final hit on him and end the absurd killstreak he's racked up, because I know from personal experience how bad that feels.
It's a consequence of the Eyelander's fundamental design, at least as long as you play to maintain a killstreak as it encourages you to do. I much prefer using the Zatoichi as it encourages a more berserker-esque playstyle that is more akin to what I want in demoknight. Claidheamh Mor if I'm playing hybrid.
