We buy bulk flexzilla hose and use it in a industrial factory and we always have a problem with the ID of the hose strecltching out over time and eventually our fittings just fall out of the hose, probably fine for pressures under 100 psi
I was using PVC air hoses, but it wasn't the stiffness that bothered me. Air compressor oil will soften the end and make it leak at the crimp. Usually on the air compressor side. I seldom paint and need quick recovery. Oil-free compressors probably wouldn't bother the hose, but they're slow to charge back up. I'm changing car tires, sanding, and grinding mostly. Is rubber my best option?
THANKYOU VERY MUCH .THIS VIDEO HELPED TO ME .IM IN RETIREMENT PROCESS AND I HAVE BEEN COLLECTING NEW TOOLS FOR MY CARPENTER SHOP AND I BOUGHT MY BOSTITCH AIR PORTABLE COMPRESSOR
A phenomenal video you've created for us "NEWBIES" when it comes to the various different types of air compressor hoses and their composition, as well. GREAT INFO to be armed with and know when deciding or deliberating on which type of hose is best for our specific needs or type of applications, as well. Thanks brother!!
Nice video. What hoses do you recommend for RV use in general (airing tires etc.) and especially for blowing out RV water lines in cold climates? Thanks!
How much pull back does that poly coiled house have? That's something to consider if it pulls back too strongly, the PVC coil hoses are very annoying if you actually try to extend them beyond the coiled length by more than a few feet.
I need help. My friend gave me his 6 gallon Porter Cable Air Compressor. Has no hoses or fittings with it. What do I need to buy and what size? It’s a model C2002
Can hose diameter be too big for a compressor. Just bought a 4.1 scfm compressor and I mostly use stapler and brad. But I will have occasionally need for framer and impact without repetitive use. Will a 3/8 over work the compressor for mostly stapling and will a 1/4 leave me short on power to drive a framer or impact?
Great video. I love my Flexzilla 50' hose and was about to buy a 100'. Thought I'd look up what's best and found this video. I'll probably get it but will check out the Prevost hose. Thank-You for the comparison!
have a 50' Flexilla hose in my shop. I don't use it a lot, so it hangs on a spool on the wall. The spool has about a 8" radius, it is a garden hose hanger. The hose has developed a memory of that spool and it is near impossible to rehang it cleanly. I am switching to a different hose!!!
I don't buy polyurethane or plastic tires on my car and I don't buy polyurethane hoses. Most of the stuff I own is decades old and will last decades more. They're making stuff cheaper in America and it's very noticeable. They don't want stuff to last 40 years they want it to last 40 months and the inflation to match. As a customer you've got to make careful decisions. You can't trust the Amazon rating system as people often times post ratings before they even get the product. I've seen products on Amazon with many many thousands of ratings 4.8 stars drop to 1.8 stars a few months later. Hybrid hose I'm just not a hybrid kinda guy.
I was always told the poly hose is what you need as a carpenter and I’ll admit that they are tough but they are harder to roll out and roll up. It’s not the biggest issue but u can’t just wrap it up like a power cord all easy how ever you want, I love pvc personally it cheap, flexible and easy kinda like my taste in women but I recently stole a dewalt hybrid from trim and finish crew (they had it coming bunch of A holes, I don’t feel bad about it whatsoever) anyway it’s quickly becoming my favorite n go to hose .next time I go to buy a new one I’ll get a hybrid hose not a dewalt tho I’d be more than happy with a harbor freight one
Those would be called "pipes". No braided steel or anything that I'm aware of, as there's no added benefit. There is aluminum flex piping for outfitting shops though.
Can you use either the rubber or hybrid air hoses as a water hose? I wanted to use it for car detailing instead of the polyurethane to avoid the coiling.
Good video, had no idea that there were so many options. On my last job the boss would always buy 'Do It Best'' bargain bin quality air hoses...every time I see that name now, I get pissed off.
Hi !!! I have Makita Air compresor 2400 -4.2 Gal-2.5 HP - can I used for air spray things like tables , furniture , with the Polyurethane coiled air compresor ? Also where can I order the Air Polyurethane coiled air compresor hose? Thank you ' Bronx, N.Y. 10454 - Im so happy to get you valuable Information.
Which is the most oil resistant? I work in an automotive shop and there’s ALWAYS oil, coolant, or transmission fluid residue on the floor and my coworkers have the bad habit of leaving the air hoses on the floor, and the hoses absorb the oil and get a nasty sticky texture and then soften up and leak.
Problem I had was the compressor oil eating the hose up from the inside. Maybe I need to use a moisture trap. I'm sure that gunk's not good inflating tires.
I have a few PVC air hoses but because they are not super flexible I use them on long straight runs that I don’t move often and also use them between surge/air pig tanks on the high pressure side of the regulators. Then use super flexible hoses from that tank after the regulators.

@@mr.p9882 Do you have any recommendations for a reliable hose? I'm just getting into my own business and my budget is tight (I can afford something expensive IF i only need to buy the one.) I know my tools pretty well just not the peripherals like hoses and such. Main use for the hose is Framing. 70-120 psi on a metabo HPT NR83A5. I don't really trust the hose that was bundled with the compressor, psi rating of 150.
I ordered a 100ft poly hose for 26.99 and when I picked it up it said pvc on the packaging. It looks exactly like the polyurethane hose you showed. It was from northern tool. I haven’t taken it out do you think I’ll be okay? I’m in Texas so it doesn’t get cold much at all here it’s just for diy stuff at home

Vgreat inromative video, enjoy it. But why do Americans speak English when they end up butchering most words. "polymier"? .. Polymer "paa·luh·mr" is how you say it. Tried ignoring it but it's so annoying.
Really dude? A 20-second intro + having to listen to you say 'Uh' or 'Umm' _literally_ *every single time* you pause or start a new sentence?? Umm, yeah...no thanks

One useful trick is using large hose for flow but having a few short, flexible "whips" or "pigtails" to make spray gun or tool handling comfortable.
Very informative and the best air hose comparison video on UA-cam. Thanks for the video and clearing some things up for me. Subscribed!
Ridgid has a fabric lay flat air hose that's supposedly doesn't have any of the drawbacks of previous hoses. Would have enjoyed hearing about that.

I have a ¼" one and it's not bad. The ⅜" one tries to spring back, especially if you set your air tool down.
I detest those hoses.
My PVC/Rubber Hybrid works great. Built many homes with it.
Right on. Great breakdown.

how do nylon air hoses compare as far as in cold vs hot weather and durability?
You should have links to each hose.
What is the best diameter air compressor hose for general purpose use? 3/8" or 1/2" etc.?

3/8" is best overall hose.

Why not just steal your next hybrid hose from harbor freight? You are a thief after all...
I've never found a hose that lasts more than a year. Is there any metal air hoses out there?
Those would be called "pipes". No braided steel or anything that I'm aware of, as there's no added benefit. There is aluminum flex piping for outfitting shops though.
Great Video! I am a furniture maker and spray a lot of lacquer in my shop....What would be your recommendation????
A polyurethane hose would be easiest to clean. Painters most of the time use that type.
I'd recommend a _really_ good mask + NO gas water heater!
do all air pressure hoses contain lead?
Good year sucks mine popped I repaired it and popped somewhere else I've fixed it 3 times I'm done
Can you use either the rubber or hybrid air hoses as a water hose? I wanted to use it for car detailing instead of the polyurethane to avoid the coiling.
Probably too late a year later, but, Flexzilla makes a water hose that comes in different lengths as well. We're talking some good stuff, Maynard

What about for breathing air hose?
Never buy anything that has plastic as a fitting,, or plastic before a fitting. Junk!
The free ones are the best!
Harbor Freight Specials...Whoo Hooo!
Come by my house. It's laying out in the yard free to a good home. Leaks a little around the crimp. Good news, it acts like a swivel now!

Amazon has a good selection of all of the hoses he talks about here. Your hardware store like Lowes do have a selection of these different materials.

I would think polyurethane, definitely NOT rubber.

Mount a reel. Problem solved
Job well done!
great presentation, thanks for all the info.
Blubird is the best hose on the market nothing comes close to it!
I’m about to toss my bright orange PVC hose and look into Prevost!

I'm concerned about the weight of a coiled hose when it hangs. Its almost like having triple the weight (I'm imagining).

Always gettin different views heard 1/4 at 75 ft would make air tools run better

Just get the flex or rubber and make your life easier
If you shoot a nail thru your hose you don’t need to repair the hose you need to find a new job.

It’s called an accent. There are many different accents in USA depending on the region
