And if you every listen to this on audiophile level headphones / DAC / Amp it really is totally awesome; gear that has great sound stage will totally blow you away with this song!
@NolanEP that's really unfortunate. Music is literally the only thing that gives me chills, goosebumps, makes the hair on my arms stand up, makes the back of my neck all tingly, etc. Apparently this only happens to a small percentage of people, and I hate that because I genuinely wish that everyone could experience music the way that I do. It's a full-body experience I don't really know how to accurately describe.
Really Pentatonix should be listened to with earphones. They do a lot with left and right ear work as well as bass work presentation that you need earphones or ear buds to pick up.
Great reaction! All of Pentatonix' songs are gorgeous, but "Hallelujah" is probably my favorite for the sheer beauty of the harmonies. It is so much fun to watch someone else see/hear it for the first time and love it as much as I. I look forward to seeing more of your reaction videos!
You may not have found the words you wanted to use but I understood and felt what you were trying say. It’s refreshing when people are real. Glad I stumbled across this reaction. 💕
Oh, right! If you are interested, there is a LIVE on stage version of this! You get to see how they deal with the vocal gymnastics in real time. It's just as GORGEOUS as this MV! :)
This one song takes you to Church but their recent cover of Amazing Grace (done around Christmas) will make you pray in Church, they honestly are that good. Their newest album has Love me When I don't which is a faster beat. Next group to try is either Voice Play or Home Free
I absolutely love their version of Hallelujah. I will say that I enjoyed their live version of Hallelujah for their Christmas special a little bit more than this original version. Definitely worth checking out. Also, would you please react to Voiceplay’s cover of “My Mother Told Me” They’re an acappella group. I love them just as much as Home Free and Pentatonix. They have a very different vibe, they like to wear costumes and make up and can be very theatrical. I absolutely love it.
Great reaction :) A few of other PTX tracks you might want to give a try: Daft Punk (for a very different aesthetic and sound) My Favourite Things (if you want to see them go a _little_ goth) The Sound of Silence (just because it's generally awesome) Love Again (I have no idea how to describe this one but it's an original track and it's fantastic)
Very nice analysis and you’re not as awkward as you think you are, but any amount of awkwardness, just makes you more endearing. As Sarah McLachlan so eloquently penned in her song Angel, “there’s always some reason to feel not good enough“… ☮️Steve in Dallas (Texas, USA)
Ok Nat first off you talk about Dynamics of Pentatonix , however to fully experience the full dynamic in Pentatonix headphones or stereo earbuds are a MUST, there is sooo much hidden in the audio mix that without the isolation of either you do miss a lot of that dynamics that Pentatonix is so famous for. PS you really should react to "Run to you" and "Love Again" both are Original songs written by the group themselves (prepare to have your mind blown). King of the run on sentence! Curt
As below headphones, the difference is amazing catching all the harmonies and textures going on in the background. Try Daft Punk Medley..it's amazing..ok most of their stuff is. Dude had fun with your reaction!!
THIS! But just like with PTX you NEED headphones. Especially for the bass and in particular Oogie Boogie Song. The lowest notes will otherwise be barely heard and i love Nate being overwhelmed to fullest extent too much to miss that! ^^
This is incorrect. They spoke with Cohen before he died when arranging this song and he asked them not to change lyrics, but he died a few days prior to or after the release. There is an article in a Texas newspaper about it.
I will just echo everybody else is sentiments. You need to have headphones if you're going to catch the subtleties and the layering Of their voices. You will pick up sounds that the ear Cannot. And I recommend using them on all of your reactions for the same reason. It also adds To your legitimacy as a music reactor. Reacting to music without headphones is like a food critic writing a review on food But never tasting it. Shortly before he passed Leonard Cohen, the gentleman who wrote the song, her Pentatonix cover of his song. He said it was the best cover he had ever heard. Pentatonix never does a song that they cannot reproduce live that which was on the official video. There is a Live performance of hallelujah On a holiday special.
Hi Nat, could you react to 1 of these, Drake White "IT FEELS GOOD" video, Randy Houser "ANYTHING GOES " Jake Owens "WE ALL WANT WHAT WE AIN'T GOT " video TY
I can't help noticing the irony of looking like Satan watching what looks like Angels praising the Lord. I imagine such a scenario of the jealousy he feels wanting the same praise for himself from mankind.
The amount of pitch correction being used on any given Pentatronix track is enough to make my ears feel lubed. Seriously, I kind of understand why people would want to listen to this kind of ”vocal” music, but this all sounds so cheesy and plasticky that it’s actually difficult to listen to. The hardcore fans will try to say ”whaddoyoumean - they don’t use pitch correct!!” but anyone who has actually done any recording / mixing / etc and has even basic experience with a software like that will tell you differently. There are still proper accapella groups, such as The King’s Singers”, if you are into that sort of thing, but Pentatonix.... It’s hard to tell if and how talented they actually are as the sound is so over produced.
They sound almost the same live. The only thing thats different is that they amplify the base and beatboxing. There is a recording on youtube of them doing daft punk in a backstage room, no mices, live. Its the same sound.
I probably have more experience with that kind of software in my little finger than you have in your entire body (more than 35 years in video and audio editing and production) and I can tell you that you have no clue what you're talking about. Do they use reverb, noise filters, EQ and amplification? Of course...literally EVERYBODY does...including your beloved King's Singers in their audio production. They especially use amplification/reverb on the beatbox audio and EQ on some of the background vocals meant to represent musical instruments. But Pentatonix spent the first nine years of their recording careers using the least possible audio tricks in the studio on the individual voices. Most of their early videos before getting re-signed to Sony were actually done live-to-video on a couch in a living room. On their recent new album of all-original material, The Lucky Ones, they started to use more of the tricks on their studio recordings...but they also did live-in-the-studio recordings of the album's songs for various television show appearances, and the sound was almost identical, only minus some of the electronic sounds that were done intentionally for the album. They did the same thing on the 90s Dance Medley video and single they released a couple of weeks ago, primarily as a tribute to the use of that sound in 90s dance music. This was actually their first use of autotune in a recording ever. We get it...Pentatonix isn't your cup of tea. That's fine, your tastes are different. But don't come on here insulting the intelligence of their MILLIONS of fans by spreading falsehoods just because you can't handle how successful they are performing music you don't like. I can't stand rap and hip hop, but I have never questioned the talent of any of the artists who perform it or insulted any of the millions of fans who enjoy it.
Here we go again. I was not talking about ”noise filters and amplification”, but pitch correction. And yes, it is the norm. Even in live clips. Real time pitch correction is pretty much everywhere. Also, the ”live” broadcasts that are actually recorded and screened later - they also go through a big post production process. And I have stated this every time I discuss this same matter - I have no reason to ”hate” the band. In fact I was super stoked to discover them a few years ago, because I really enjoy accapella style groups. Or some of them, at least. I am not going to get into an argument over something that is as clear as day - this type of production lies heavily on the use of autotune or melodyne or whichever software you choose. When you know what to listen out for, it is so incredibly clear to hear that these tracks are pitch corrected to hell and back. I know people are not going to do this, but I’ma suggest it anyway. Go listen to a Whitney Houston track, preferably something from like the Bodyguard soundtrack when she was at the height of her career. She is without a doubt one of the finest and purest singers ever to make records, even if you enjoy her music or not. But listen to those tracks - her voice is so pure and beautiful that only a few singers can ever reach that level. But is it ”pitch perfect” in the way that a Pentatonix record is? No, it is not. And by that I do not mean that she is out of tune, not at all. She is singing perfectly, with all the motion and emotion that you could ever wish for. And she stays on key. Like she nails it. But when you actually listen to it, her voice is alive and moving, and not ultra locked in on the pitch. Because locking in like that is not natural for the human voice. When you listen to basically any Pentatonix record, you can hear all of those notes being locked in to the note, artificially tight and straight like a line drawn by a computer - because that is what is essentially is. A computer assisting to help keep the pitch ”perfect”. I don’t really care how many years you’ve sat in front of a monitor, but if you refuse to even think of the possibility that these people are using pitch correction then I am not going to waste my time with you. There is a line between ”perfect” and ”perfect”. The other one is natural and beautiful, the other one is strict and absolute. Seriously. Listen to how the different voices stack on top of each other, with no movement whatsoever. What bugs me the most is that these people probably are incredible singers, and would do fine without the autotune. It is nothing more than a production choice, and they are catering to an audience that 99% of the times does not know anything else - as 99% of the music you hear on the radio is autotuned. And I have no problem with autotune, in fact I use it a lot (as an effect) myself, or sometimes to fix some small things that are way off key... So no need to get all defensive like I just attacked your grandma.
I strongly recommend that you use headphones to listen to anything by Pentatonix in order to really hear all the subtleties in each part.
And if you every listen to this on audiophile level headphones / DAC / Amp it really is totally awesome; gear that has great sound stage will totally blow you away with this song!
I agree.
I agree it's 10000 time bettee
100% accurate!
1. get headphones. 2. get a box of tissues. 3. listen to Amazing Grace by Pentatonix. 4. You will cry, it's normal.
LAWD you ain’t lying. I thought people were were over exaggerating.
True, true. ALMOST everybody I have seen react to that one cries. So especially somebody who does get emotional from other songs. :)
Even on the 100th listen - you will cry.
You REALLY need to use headphones when listening to PTX! You won't regret it!
Headphones are a must for Pentatonix!
If you listen PTX please, I beg you, use headphones. You will go into orbit from the harmonies!
You're gobsmacked😊. That's the word you're looking for. This was the first PTX video I ever saw and I've been hooked ever since.
Really Pentatonix should be listened to with earphones. They do a lot with left and right ear work as well as bass work presentation that you need earphones or ear buds to pick up.
Good headphones will change everything you hear in PTX songs! I can't recommend them enough!!
So true
This is my favorite group ever.
Yep
Great reaction! All of Pentatonix' songs are gorgeous, but "Hallelujah" is probably my favorite for the sheer beauty of the harmonies. It is so much fun to watch someone else see/hear it for the first time and love it as much as I. I look forward to seeing more of your reaction videos!
Loved watching your facial expressions throughout the song.
Their version gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it
Your attempt to dredge up authentic terminology in English already sets your review head and shoulders above any so-claimed coaches etc. Mahalo!
Yay! Glad to see you reacting to this one. They do an amazing cover. 💜
You MUST wear headphones when listening to Pentatonix. You do yourself a disservice otherwise!
Penatonix Amazing Grace with headphones is a must!!!!
This one song takes you to Church but their recent cover of Amazing Grace (done around Christmas) will make you pray in Church, they honestly are that good. Their newest album has Love me When I don't which is a faster beat. Next group to try is either Voice Play or Home Free
There are other awkward people in the world so you fit right in. Don't even worry about it. :)
I absolutely love their version of Hallelujah. I will say that I enjoyed their live version of Hallelujah for their Christmas special a little bit more than this original version. Definitely worth checking out. Also, would you please react to Voiceplay’s cover of “My Mother Told Me”
They’re an acappella group. I love them just as much as Home Free and Pentatonix. They have a very different vibe, they like to wear costumes and make up and can be very theatrical. I absolutely love it.
You Need to hear Pentatonix Mary did you know
You have eye brows to die 4. Love them too much. 😍 Love your reaction 2.
If you are into the bass and vocal dynamics, try Geoff Castalucci singing Blackbird. Mind-blowing stuff.
They do every cover better than the original ! So good .. react to Bohemian Rhapsody ans Imagine... and Say Something !!! so good !!
Great reaction :)
A few of other PTX tracks you might want to give a try:
Daft Punk (for a very different aesthetic and sound)
My Favourite Things (if you want to see them go a _little_ goth)
The Sound of Silence (just because it's generally awesome)
Love Again (I have no idea how to describe this one but it's an original track and it's fantastic)

Wizard of Ahhhs

You will have so much fun.
Oh and i love your look i have subscribed
Anyone who listens to Pentatonix without headphones just isn't serious about listening to music.
If you wear headphones you will be astonished how much better they sound, you are missing all the highs and lows and subtleties.
HEADPHONES IS A MUST FOR PTX
Love it!
Leonard Cohen saw this video before he passed away and said this was the best rendition of his song.
This is incorrect. They spoke with Cohen before he died when arranging this song and he asked them not to change lyrics, but he died a few days prior to or after the release. There is an article in a Texas newspaper about it.
Yes, WOW!

Mixed metafors sometimes do better at explaining because it's surprising which PTX sometimes is
I can't help noticing the irony of looking like Satan watching what looks like Angels praising the Lord. I imagine such a scenario of the jealousy he feels wanting the same praise for himself from mankind.
Reaction a Dimash DAYBREAK,
