I gotta give it to Linus. It's hard for anyone to pretend to be excited over this piece of tiny e-waste by my man made it through the entire video like a true professional.
Novelty. Imagine your part of company starting up, you want to sell servces in modern electronics. What are you going to make to make you stand out? Keychain video game consules are a good option.
@@AnonymousAnarchist2but even then the major demographic that would go for something like that isn't going to want to pay that much. I would agree with Linus around $20, but with the option to be able to add games from other people's work i would say around $20-$35 maybe even $40 ( to round out to an even number) could be acceptable. At the price point of $50 all you are really going to attract is either the family member who is buying a gift they don't know what would make a good gift, so this is the safe option lol. An enthusiasts who might want to try and use whatever tools they make to allow games to be made / and published on this. That one person who's journey it is to run doom on everything which i guess kinda ties back to the enthusiasts. Finally the one person who finds it sitting randomly in a thrift store or on clearance etc. Hard for me to imagine, but at the same time i know I am definitely not the demographic for this product, so I may be wrong lol. Just hard to imagine someone deciding to whip out their keys to play a game on a tiny screen when they more then likely also have their phone on them lol.
@@TheCommanderTaco That's a good point and I like the Wii-mote idea xD. Back before I graduated I would ride the bus to school and the neighbor kid had a cheap shitty e-waste 200in1 handheld, but it didn't matter to him if it was shitty because he thought it was dope. If I ever become a parent I'm definitely grabbing one of those instead of a smartphone for my kid. The children yearn for the classics.
This is a really amazing and useful device. If only in the future they can expand on this idea and make some sort of device with a bigger screen, better operating system and add some radios that allow it to communicate via voice and/or text messaging. I bet everyone would carry something like that around, it would totally make this gameboy knock off seem like complete ewaste. Until that happens though, this is a super great product worth every penny.
It really is. Still too tiny for PS1 and cuts off too much for GBA, but it's usable. The original Miyoo Mini is the sweet spot in my opinion, perfect size, display and just powerful enough for the kind of games you'd play on that formfactor.
I can only imagine products like this are directed at miniature collectors? I'm surprised there's that many out there to make these profitable XD To each their own I suppose, but seems like a very "because I can" product haha.
Looked at the Kickstarter page and couldn’t understand the $50 early bird price tag. Then I watched the rest of the video. I don’t think it’s for me, but I understand the price. It’s also clearly a novelty item so that raises the price. Over all, very cool!
People call this E-Waste yet it isn't, for one it actually WORKS as well as there is a market for people who actually like cute little things like this. IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT DOESN'T MEAN ITS E-WASTE...
The FunKey S won me over. Bought it after the video and I love it. The OS of the FunKey S seems more polished as well but I love myself some competition in the keychain console market
Concentrating on that tiny screen is bound to give you a headache. Do yourself a favor and take a look at the Anbernic RG34XX or just stick to the more accepted budget handhelds like the R36S or the Miyoo Mini Plus.
I have the Pocket Sprite, pretty much this but with GBC and SMS emulation in DMG shape. I found the bigest problem is the 80x64 display, at this size you don't want action games on that control, but at that resolution you can't play text-heavy turn based RPGs either. I originally wanted a tiny Pokemon-machine. It does work, but my eyes bleed on the downscaled text at that size.
Not remotely aorth $50. Its more nevelty than utility and there are some truly great Gameboy Esq emulation handehelds at that price point that you can fully game on.
thats way too expensive...considering rp2350 board is around 5- 7 usd and a screen that size goes for below $3 usd. The rp2350 already has ram and flash when you buy dev kit so. Even if you add $15 or $20 to this it will not cost $50
It's a neat showcase of miniaturization, but far less usable or even impressive than something like the RG Nano or the GKD Pixel - while those are a touch larger they can actually emulate some proper games instead of some half baked arcade clones you'd expect on a mid 2000s fake handheld. And it's not like the RP2350 is completely incapable in that regard, there is a functioning GB/GBC emulator for that cpu, but looking at the dates the device is probably older than the emulator.
What is this? A Console for Ants?
it needs to be at least 3x bigger than this 🤨….😂
He is absolutely right
😂 great Zoolander reference
Read the thumbnail 🤷
Smol Linus sized
this feels like a slightly better version of those toy keychains in bookstores
Guess that’s the point of it lol
I mean, being able to upload your own games to it is impressive
You could have a Tamagotchi on it !! :)
Novelty e-waste. Great.
At least it is not much waste.
@@kakihara111 except for the money bazinga
50$ for e-waste. Good one linus
Nah, keyring joy
that they paid Linus a years salary to promote
I gotta give it to Linus.

Fun fact SRAM means "I take a shit" in Polish
"I'm taking a shit"*
Sram bike parts would like a word with Poland
@cxza4901but where are you taking it don’t take it away from it family
50$ why ever pick up this when there’s so many options for handheld games for 50$

miyoo mini baby!
This would have been a great product in 2005
haha she put string on her neck
Can’t wait to play Doom on it!
They're fun but baaaarely playable, still rad to see what they're able to do at this size!
I could see someone giving this to their young kid. It's better than throwing them in front of Coco Melon.

As someone with severe myopia, this console is my nightmare.
Myopia is not the problem; it lets you see close stuff. Presbyopia in old peopke won't let you see anything close.
RG Nano is the smallest USABLE mini handheld imo

gkd pixel
Not flyers, Talisman, you throwing Talismans.
Also, Morris' Son is a girl...
Cool, but niche for sure and not all too practical. This is something you hand to a friend or family member after a few drinks.
Funkey S can actually emulate console games
Anbernic just announced a gba lookalike handheld that isnt for ants and has a much more powerful cpu.
Word, spec are similar to an esp32, which checks out because thats the only processor I know that could work in something so small.
Please show us the invoiced amount for this level of enthusiasm
And I just got done watching an LGR Blerb on some micro ornaments, and now this...everythings coming up micro! lol

The sequel to the gameboy pocket, the gameboy keychain.
You mean sequel to the Game Boy Micro.
Could you imagine being handed this in this early 90's?

remember when we bought a screen magnifier for our old gameboy? the gameboy screen is 4x larger than this....
To be fair the old Gameboys didn't have back lighting, but by Linus's comment this screen is so small you can't make out color lol.

E-waste.
so complain about water bottles and other petroleum products. at least this is fun
It's e-waste. You will use it for 2 minutes then display it on a corner of your shelf behind a magnifying glass, or lose it in a drawer.
"Take you phone videography to the next level!"
Reminds me of those toys that used to come in meals that were tiny games just dodging things
I thought It was supposed to be small? just looks normal don't it Dbrand. 😏
Everyone: laughs
Linus: Claiming his hands are not child size😂
Anne Moore: And I took that personally.
Linus just wanted to feel like a giant
The dystopian Nintendo Ninja's want want to know your location NOW!
Still too big for Linus' tiny hands.
I wanted to se DOOM so bad
so it's a pocket sprite with none of the open source community cool

I honestly thought this would cost more
If they made an SP in this scale, I would go ballistic
Check out the Funkey S if you want something tiny but with more pressable buttons and able to emulate lots of old game consoles
Then you want the FunKey S
If I can't use as a keychain, I don't want it. lol
i rly need puzzle bubble right now
over the years, linus has repeatedly pointed out that he needs glasses but doesnt wear any, so you have to take that with some salt or something.
Just need some jewelers glasses to play it.
5:29 they should sell a clip on magnifying glass with it 😅
If you use this product for months on end, you'll get myopia (nearsightedness)

i was kinda expecting a labs test of the display idk why
Linus on left? I click. Edit: no headphone jack? What a joke
At first glance, I though it was Dbrand
50 bucks?! So it costs as much as a nicely refurbished GameBoy Advance! 🤯
How is that screen not 4k. What timeline are we living in?
I'd maybe pay 30 for it at max. Cool idea though
Must play GTA 6 in it after its release in 7024.
