I had a big problem with my engine so had to replace the crank , i went to Mercedes to order up gaskets stretch bolts etc . All the parts came but only two conrod bolts and was told no stock in uk and could take 6 months . I can not wait 6months so built the engine . The bolts were just off 90 degree final setting but felt like there was stretch . Have i just built a time bomb . Car is not a sports car .
So, the sole purpose is to determine if the fastener is reusable? Obviously, when new they can be used. Measure them as new, use them and then measure again to determine if reusable???? Don't really understand importance if using new bolts on a build, as they should be 'perfect', right??? Steve
you are supposed to measure the length after tighting your rod bolts to make sure the rod bolts are at the correct spec of 75% of the yield strength. The tool also lets you know if the bolts you removed are resuable if they "spring back" to their original length and are properly stretched when reinstalled.

strech = 1"/10000 is almost the same as 25 mm/10000 ?
