I have a ‘14 F350 that I did have a cp4 failure on a few years ago. I’ll be doing a screen conversion soon. I bought it new and have about 140,000 miles on it of hard towing. I’ve made several upgrades including Mishimoto radiators. However I haven’t touched the turbo and have had no issues. I have not deleted mine in anyway due to all the legal issues I didn’t feel like pissing with. Overall I’ve been very happy with the truck. Mine has been mostly trouble free but it’s also been extremely well maintained.
Thanks for sharing. I like hearing real world feedback. Maintenance is the secret with most vehicles. The stock turbo seem to do ok at stock power levels. Not a lot of wiggle room when people tune them and up the boost pressure / turbine speed.
Ya I don’t blame you. A diesel is awesome when you are using it. As soon as something goes wrong they suck to work on though! Newer gas trucks these days are very capable for most people
A 5.0 can tow maybe half of what a diesel can. Not a fair comparison. A 6.8 or 7.3 gas is a more fair comparison. Those half ton diesels are not worth getting anyways
I had a lift pump failure on my 2013 power stroke. I replaced it and swapped the CP4 to a DCR pump and also a sinister diesel charge pipe. Feel much better about the truck now she runs great.
@@JT2JZ no tuning is necessary with the DCR upgrade. It does seem like it has a little bit more power. It’s pretty labor intensive. So far I’m very happy with it and I don’t have to worry about the Cp4 failing and trashing the entire fuel system.
@@JT2JZ I also noticed you have the disaster prevention kit on your truck. The DCR pump is 100% compatible with that installed. You may want to visit thoroughbred diesel’s channel on the upgrade.
The GT37 turbo upgrade on the 2015+ was a game changer for sure! Seems like the prices on the 2015+ trucks are always significantly more. For good reason though. They are good trucks.
Nice video!! I agree these trucks are pain in the rear but I do love it. When I hit 40 I’m dumping mine and going back to a gasser. Getting of working on my vehicles. Also wear is that hole that you blew out for hvac near the blower motor and the other outdoor hole at?
Great video! I have a 2013 as well with a ton of SPE parts love their stuff. All the items you mentioned are great topics regarding the 2011-2014. Consider the coolant reroute as well from SPE, helps eliminate the factory connections that end up leaking. Also keep an eye out for the coolant line on the turbo as well as the gaskets on the thermostat housing that go between the cylinder heads. Check rockauto for oil and fuel filters I get my fuel filters for like $60 motorcraft and oil and oil filter motorcraft as well usually runs about $70usd
I bought a 2011 even though everyone says don’t buy the first model year 😅 and it was built before 4/2010 but has 150,000 miles and still no glow plug or valve issue 😬
And you got it wrong about the CCV box the CCV box on the 11 through 16 are non-serviceable. You don’t have no filters in them. It’s the 17 and up that have it the 17th through 20s I believe or 19 and then they fix that and went back to the old style like the ones from 11 to 16 from like the 20s and up.
Did you mention the vacuum pump bolts that are loose from the factory? I had two out of the four finger tight on mine. Took one bolt out at a time and used loctite. Fixed my leak
@@JT2JZ no problem. Top 2 out of the 3 are easy to get to. The third one is tight but accessible. The fourth one on the bottom you’re gonna need a mirror
The 11 through 12 dual compressor turbos were the ones to stay away from because they had the ceramic ball bearing the 13 to 14 are fine 15s are better because it’s a bigger turbo and it’s a single but I have 14 and I got 200 K on my had zero problems nock on wood lol
Yes. The new updated version only has one compressor inlet. The old style will have two separate inlets ( follow the path of air from your air filter, the old style will have a split and two inlets to the turbo )
Uhh yea I think I'll be going with a good ol 5.3 ls. I don't even tow that hard, just considering a diesel for fuel economy and how many miles they last. But too many issues.
@JT2JZ pretty much exactly what I want. 5.3 or 6.0, but if I got 5.3 I'll have to 4l80 swap anyway, build a motor slowly on the side with the 4l80 and set up the torqstorm procharger or lsa supercharger, haven't figured out what's more cost efficient yet. Then if I want I could build the second motor and keep driving it forever lmao. Super close to affording one rn.
@MadMan_123 even the 4L60 trans is decent with a few basic upgrades. I have a few older videos on my trucks setup you can check out if you are curious.
@JT2JZ yea they do, but if I want to go another 200k miles and do some towing (at the most I might tow a car rarley, mostly just a side by side or my quad) I'd rather put money in building a fresh 4l80, just in stock form it would be fine but a little bullet proofing wouldn't hurt. Plus I have a good rebuildable core, I hear someone makes a plug n play harness.
Hi. I need some help with my Yamaha R1 starting. Even with the new Lithium battery installed. It still wont start and sound like a weak crank. But when i jump wire it with my car. It starts up perfectly. Please help put it dont have any help here in Pakistan.
The g32sst is a very good turbo. The issue was the intial design. Then guys would hop them up and spin the bearings out of them. Not allowing your turbo to cool properly after use will destroy any turbo. Using bad oil, or using fords recommended oil change intervals will destroy any turbo. Guys overfuel these trucks like crazy, the cp4.2 can handle up to about 600hp before is starts really loosing its longevity. They cavitate with these horrendous tunes, and combine that with sulfer less diesel and youve got planned obsolescence. Ive owned and worked on idk how many cars trucks tractors semis ect... and the 6.7l powerstroke for a light duty truck is an excellent purchase. Dont over tune them, delete them, and treat them like they were ment to be, with respect. Anything outside of that was a problem with the inital assembly, which is extremely rare.
Used trucks have issues if the original owners don’t take care of them. There’s no truck better than any other truck. If you are a Chevy fan stick with a Chevy. Ford stay with a Ford. Nothing worse than a Chevy fanatic driving a Ford or Dodge or anything else!
I’ve owned many diesel trucks from the big three ( gmc, dodge, ford ) They all have pros and cons. Unfortunately none of them are perfect. I do enjoy this powerstroke even with it’s common problems. At the end of the day it’s still a great truck for the price.
@user-zy1qd4rs8j unfortunately gas engines are also ruined with emissions these days. Not much further ahead in that department with camshaft / lifter failures on all the half tons
I’ve owned a few cummins in my day. Besides the good fuel mileage and large fuel tanks I didn’t really enjoy it. The older interiors sucked. I do like the new G5 cummins though! Just to expensive at the moment.
Those problems is not comoms problems. The truck has over 300k miles. You probably got the truck for 20k and pay for the problems later. I see people do the shxt all the time get a cheap truck with 300k mile and get fxxk in the end. Better to buy a salvage truck with low miles and fix the body amd frame whatever might be then trying to fix old shit the belong to the yunk yard.

Yes. The new updated version only has one compressor inlet. The old style will have two separate inlets ( follow the path of air from your air filter, the old style will have a split and two inlets to the turbo )
So if the secondary keeps going low, the air/water intercooler is the culprit?
Yes very likely if you have no external leaks.
I have another video on my channel replacing that intercooler because my truck was starting to smoke white on cold starts ( burning coolant )
