Lot of good tips ARod! Don't forget: check the pedal wear, lots of wear means lots of stop and go (same with seat bolsters, hopping in and out will show a LOT more wear). I'd rather buy a high mileage freeway runner truck. I like to pull door rubbers and look for over spray, good way to tell if there was an accident that wasn't maybe reported to insurance. Bring a magnet with you, for steel bodied trucks to see if there was any Bondo jobs. I also like to see a truck start when it's dead cold, a cold start tells a lot. A big thing today is to make sure all the electric junk works. A buddy of mine bought a 2018 Explorer a while back and it had the front seat massagers, he didn't check that until MONTHS later and only the passenger one works, the driver side was used ALL the time and wore out. Some great tips! This is what I love about the interWeBZ!

Another thing to add is always look under the bed liner! I bought a 2011 with a new bed liner and the previous guy screwed plywood into the bed! Like 16 screw holes in my bed. Dealers add it because they know people don't check under it for bed condition. I got a good deal on it cause of lots of cosmetic damage like that.

Yet another very excellent video tutorial of yours sir. I especially like where you touched upon the interior smell. That's just one of my many pet peeves of getting into customers' vehicles, is when they smell like "dog". Next up is when they reek of pot so strong you could get high, just getting in it to bring into your bay. I too, echo your sentiments about how the overall interior appearance of a vehicle speaks volumes about the owner's character. You also brought up a very good point on the cost of a brake job on these trucks, which reminds me that I might need to have a closer look at my rear brakes and possibly address if needed, since I'm about to unload my 2016 with 74K miles on it very shortly within the next month or so. I know I just did my front brakes within the last oil change I did, about 3K miles ago, as well as my summer tires. Good tip on the fuel filler door hook. I never knew that! Which also reminds me, I need to fuel up. I think I'm going to use that hook for the first time.

I really appreciate you making this video - you brought up some things that I didn't think of and I'm glad that you did as I'm in the market for a 6.7. The only thing I'd add - make sure to look at the cab corners and rocker panels for deterioration, that seems to be very common in the rust belt. I'm in Michigan and I've seen it a lot on trucks out here! Thanks again.

Great video. I consider if a person is using OEM maintenance parts. That will give me an idea of whether they’ll use OEM replacement parts. Lastly, if someone invests in a high tier on brand tire, chances are there are other things they didn’t skimp on. Everything else, you pretty much covered. As soon as I saw the empty coolant reservoir, I walked. These trucks b too expensive for little stuff like that!

I bought a used 2017 F-250 King Ranch almost two months ago. I wish I had seen this video then. However, the interior looks brand new, the engine bay is so clean you'd swear it was used in space or something, and it doesn't leak anything. On top of that, the original owner replaced the murder-damper (death-wobble) with dual dampers and some upgraded stuff which impressed my Ford mechanic at my dealer. It has a few tiny scratches but beyond that, I feel as though I stole the thing.
After 3,000mi, at 120k, I took it to my dealer (bought at a Mitsubishi dealer) and had every fluid changed, every filter changed, tires rotated, everything. The master tech at the dealer said whoever had the truck took care of it. I was stressed about it before that. I drive it daily now, and tow weekly. It'll be with me until it explodes or something. Shooting for 1mil miles.

    • @GuretoSefirosu

@@buddyrevell511 I talked him down to $55,000. Had 117k miles on it. It has been solid until this past week. I started getting P0170. It is for the Bosch fuel system. Ford has no fix, mainly because so many different things can trigger this code, even falsely. Clogged intake (dirty filter), failing injector, bad MAF sensor, bad CAC temp sensor, bad MAP sensor, anything can trigger it. One guy just resets the code every thousand miles and drives on because the truck performs well with no side-effects. Still love the truck and I ignore what I consider to be a false code until Ford figures it out.

Good tips! I cringed when I saw this topic come up...Think I did just alright with my purchase.
My 2014 XLT was used at a west coast Ford dealer. Tow package and running lights. Had higher mileage, dents in the bed and top of tailgate, but felt it had a solid drivetrain and chassis. Made the inspection and purchase on a rainy day too. Was happy to crawl under and see a little dry dirt build up...Let me know it wasn't power washed to hide anything and any oil would be easy to spot. I did later find a slight fluid drip from the EGR gasket and Had a hydraulic brake booster leak on the front of the 6.7 around a month after my purchase. Ford took care of all parts and repair for me. Just cost me my fuel and time.

Batteries horribly corroded, air filter minder was fully maxed out, oil was black as could be and was so thick that it wouldn’t even drip off the stick. All the maintenance stickers in the corner of the windshield were very out of date. Decided to walk away and find one that’s better taken care of. I’m guessing whoever had it traded it in because they couldn’t really afford to keep it with the higher fuel prices. Letting the maintenance go is a bad idea though.

I will hopefully pick up a 6.7 later this year. I really dont have that big of a budget but im hoping I can find something. it will not be stock after I buy it, work and longevity mods.

I haven’t gotten one yet, am looking every day. The original plan was an XL for another truck in the fleet, but I keep seeing these Lariats for great prices and want to buy those for myself. Either way I could expand my business, just one more than the other. I found an 18 F250 6.7 XL SuperCab 8’ with plow prep and so on. For $26k which is actually a pretty good price for an 18. I found a program in Mishawaka Indiana where they’ll give you a brand new F250 XLT 6.7 and you pay 24 cents a mile until 60k or a year and they’ll give you another. I would really like to do that, owning depreciating assets is a bad business decision. Even if it pays for itself, they’re also expensive! The next shipment of trucks they’ll get is sometime early next year. So if I don’t find anything that absolutely blows me away in my budget I’ll probably go that route until it comes time to replace my personal work rig. I wanted a rig that I could put a plow on for this winter, but I’ll either wait, get a 6.7 or just a cheap F250 for the season and get rid of it in the spring.

Pretty big deal. There are (2) water pumps on these trucks. I replaced mine 6 months ago and I am NOT a mechanic but I AM not rich, therefore, I got some cool new tools from Harbor Freight. NOTE: It's recommended to REMOVE the front grill, multiple radiators, etc. to get this job done and it's COSTLY. But definitely water pumps ARE necessary,, so replace as needed. ;)
