I am in desperate need of tutorials, I have seen several comments from steve that there will be some coming all the way back a year ago. some tutorials for extra dum dummies are greatly needed please. starting to feel like I have burned seventy-five bucks.
This vid is definitely not a tutorial. Lots of missing steps we are supposed to know already. I need a step by step and explanation why I’m taking that step. Better than nothing though. Color overlay, effects, white key line, why two black layers? Why a black and gray layer? When would we use those? Do this step first? Why? Do I need every step? Why not??? Whew 😥. Yes, please get into registration marks. What are halftime degrees in this program???
Having never used colour separation software I found it confusing. Why don’t you do an example video from start to finish. Maybe use a 4 colour example.

Some of us trying to get into the screen printing world simply can’t afford the pro screen printing software right now, and this gave some of us hope. Now I just feel ripped off. Back to flogging my single color prints I guess.

I have a question... If I wanted to do a CYMK 4 color seperation. Do I combine purple and red layers to make Magenta ? Blue and turquoise layers to make cyan ? What about green ?
Hi Crumb Show Color Separation AP really wasn't made for CMYK. As a simulated process spot color separator, it's intent is to give you a clean spot color separation. A possible way to do CMYK though (I haven't tried), would be to use Affinity Photo's CMYK mode and use their stock CMYK channels and manipulate those to your shop's needs. I'm not a fan of CMYK on garment printing. The bright colors dont come out right and depending on the time of year, who printed it on what day on what machine and 1000 other unexpected variables, one print to the next will come out different. Even the first print to the last in one run could come out different. but it's do-able. Just not reliable of garments. :) Thanks!

While I don't print on iPad myself, I believe it would print through any AirPrint printer. But that's just a guess. I usually use the iPad for creation and production work when the Mac or PC are out of reach or I'm too lazy to use anything but an iPad. :) But I believe it will print to AirPrint from the iPad. I'd check with Affinity Photo for their programs print capabilities. I'll be they address it. Thanks

Especially when you get those automated off image bad guesses of where the cutline should be. I'm contemplating making POD Merch tools for sale. I make a bunch now that I use. Including one that creates a key line of any color for light images on white stickers.
Hi Gig Nut, Yes it works on Windows and has a registration marks button to add the marks after the separation. I would leave enough room on the top and bottom for the registration marks as the marks will be on the top and bottom centered. Thanks!
Beginner here. When doing the color separations, is that under the assumption the image is already in Vector format? I guess what I'm asking is, before the color seps, do I need say, Affinity Designer, to vectorize the image before putting it into Affinity Photo for the seps? Thanks!
Hi Veronica, Color Separation AP color separates raster or bitmap images. Not vector. I've created work in Designer and Illustrator to be sepped in Affinity Photo, but The separation is raster not vector being in Affinity Photo. I hope that helps. :)

Hi John, Thank for reaching out. Color Separation AP was initially developed so we'd be able to do color separations on the iPad. I use it on 2 different iPad pros and 1 iPad Air 2. Wherever Affinity Photo macros go, so does Color Separation AP. It's cool to walk around a press and consult with printers. Thanks again!
I’m a newbie to screen printing who is having issues understanding the white color separation process. When I separate the white , will I need to print my whole film positive as black just to get the little bit of white out of my design?
Good video. Can you please tell me if I need to stroke/choke the white underbase (make smaller) or leave it the same size as other colors when doing these type halftone prints. Thanks
not sure if I can use the results. its kind of cool that AP can kind of do this. but getting it together and outputting it is a real hassle. $60. later, not going to be using it. needs better (or any) instruction. I will fart around with it some more but so far its too klunky to get work done. its a start. we all are looking for ways to cut the Adobe cord. this looked like a possibillity. but just not very useable results.
Hi Sam, I put some tips here in this post. A lot of the single color separation buttons are used to speed up a normal separation process. I agree that it's not what we know in Photoshop as it is not Photoshop. :) But using a different method of channel seps on layers was the way to do it on Affinity Photo. Here's some tips.. - Always use an RGB image. CMYK and other images will not work as Color Separation AP uses RGB channels to render the separations. If the RGB channels aren’t there to do it, errors will come up and/or goofy images. - Use the Pop Colors button first. The reason being you want your image to have enough color saturation for the separator to have color info to extract for the colors separations. - For now, use Full Color Simulated Process on Darks to do your separations. The reason is, most of the other separation buttons will separate full color leaving in black and gray underprints. Full Color Simulated Process on Darks will give you all possible colors to choose from like a traditional automated color separator. Plus that black and gray have already been separated out. Let me know how I can help

Color Separator AP is a raster color separator for Affinity Photo. So no vector conversion needed. It separates RGB pixel imagery. I hope that helps.
