  • Taking a quick look at the new 6505 MH from Peavey. Shot on the floor at NAMM 2015.
    The 6505 MH should retail for $499. Seriously worth taking a look at if you have a small budget & want to get into tube amps!

      You are right... with Keith Merrow, Ola Englund or even Fluff in NAMM.... the target of this head is Metal Players.... not old school rock dads...

    • @AdamRainStopper
      @AdamRainStopper 9 років тому +2

      I play old-school-ish punk rock....but with some sort of thrashy sounding rhythm for a lot of songs, and yet when I want to hear what a high-gain amp sounds like, I want a metal player to demo it. Essentially, if it can handle "chugging" with an EMG loaded 7 or 8 string, it will be more than tight enough to "machine-gun" on my passive-loaded, standard tuned 6 string. This guy did an ok job, I just wish that he didn't have to keep dive-bombing when his guitar was already out of tune to begin with.

      @guitars357 9 років тому

      Adam Rainstopper It's being marketed as the same as a 6505, but smaller. Is there really any speculation as to what it's going to sound like? The 6505 is one of the most used amps out there right now...

    • @AdamRainStopper
      @AdamRainStopper 9 років тому

      Kyle Thompson Well....it's so new that really only NAMM videos are up, which obviously doesn't tell you much about how it actually sounds. The dude kept saying they didn't take "shortcuts" with it, but it has 3 12ax7's and a pair of EL84's. If it was really "the same preamp section" as the others, it should have 5 preamp tubes. It has 2 plus the PI, which would mean either 4 or 5 stages in the gain circuit (5 if it uses only half of the third 12ax7 as a "cathodyne phase-inverter"). I know the regular 6505 has one tube for drive and recovery for the loop, and so the loop on this one might be solid state, and the reverb would also probably be solid state.....I would hope, because that would mean it uses all 4 or 5 stages just in the overdrive circuit, which could realistically do high-gain with no diode-clipping and no loss of clarity/punch/attack. That's the only thing I'd fear, that they used a couple diodes and/or a "discreet" solid state first gain stage to make it dirtier, but I doubt they'd be claiming it was "the same preamp" if they did that. As for being a 20 watt output using a pair of EL84's, that does not mean it won't do massive high-gain. They managed to do it with the HESU Little Bastard, Boogie did it with the (insert famous Mesa-Boogie amp here)-25 amps, particularly the Mark V-25, which I actually like better for recording than the real Mark V, regardless of whether or not I COULD record a 90 watt amp without my neighbors shooting out windows. I always wished there would be a low-wattage version of the 6505 series, and wished (and still wish) they would make a stand-alone preamp that is just the preamp section of a 6505 too, and I REEEEAAAALLLLLYYYY hope this thing impresses the hell out of me. Gotta play it first though. I'll hit GC and try it. If I like it, I'll tell them I don't like it....then I'll go home and order it from a smaller store or ebay seller.=)

    I replaced the first preamp tube with a 12au7, and it's quieter but it makes it easier to get a clean tone. I recommend you try it out. Preamp tubes are safe to test out, it's the power tubes that you need to be careful with.

    Great content on your channel! I'm really digging it and finding myself learning something new everyday. Question though. As a guitarist, when should you use quad tracking? Should they be for big choruses or can you get away with having the whole song quad tracked. I'm just curious because while I want my guitars to have a big sound, I don't know if sometimes the riff gets lost in it. Thanks in advance and keep up the great work, sir!

    Hey! I wanna ask a question because this man didn't say anything about the topic i will ask.
    There is a switch on the left. It says 220V/230V and 110V. Is it about the different electricity systems?
    For example, in my country, all amps 220V and their and also different HZ rates. But its different in UK or USA. When we buy an amp from an european country or usa, we have to use that amp with an device which changes the V and HZ rates. In this amp, they solve this problem by adding that switch or it has a different feature?

    Hi I have a question regarding those mini heads (mini rectifier, ironball 20W, etc). I am in the process of shopping for my first tube head, and I am interested in the Ironball 20W. People are telling me that 20W is not big enough because of saturation, headroom, etc etc etc. But I just play in my basement with a friend, record my own stuff for demo, but I don't play gigs or anything like that (at least not in a near futur). So, are the mini heads really not that good in terms of tones? Should I really buy something bigger if I want a metal tone that sounds professional?

      You can get a really decent clean bluesy type sound on the "crunch/rhythm" if you roll off slightly on your volume knob plus dial the pre gain down a bit and boost the mids and go pretty heavy on the presence. I've tried with my guitar with active pickups and you can still achieve a delightful blues type sound with just a slight bit of grit and that's how I do it with the clean tone now

      Kazuhiro Matsumura np ..... I know its a shame they cant pack the vypyr pro into a head like this .... cause they'd probly sell more of them at the lower cost. But they developed the pro to be a all in 1 solution combined with the at-200 guitar (which I hear has issue's) & the sampera pro pedal as Michael smith has proclaimed in a few video's.

      Sounds like it could be why. Anyway, from what I've been told the real characteristics of the 6L6 tubes doesn't shine through in a 5150/6505 due to the bias being locked on "cold" or whatever, that could be wrong thoug. As long as the pre-amp is the same it should sound very much the same as the 120w.

    That thing looks sweet as fuck. SpectreSoundStudios, based on your limited time with it thus far, do you think it has the headroom for a gigging musician in ~300 capacity venues? I imagine that ideally the cabinet would be miced up, but I am interested in how loud this thing can get in practice.
    Additionally, as it has an internal load, is it possible to get the raw, unemulated line out sound during silent recording to use with digital impulses? That would be incredibly useful.
    I'll be waiting for your full opinion on it, as I am looking to replace the Blackstar combo I have with something a little more purpose driven like this.

    It's a shame that recording out for the usb doesn't have an option to turn off the speaker simulation so you can apply your own IRs to it. I suppose you can just go out of the send/return into a mixer to that end or get a load box, but it would be nice because those emulated speaker outs never sound great and have no flexibility.
    However, I find this amp absolutely adorable. :3

    • @Gainovermg

      That's one thing I wish these amp companies would figure out. We have the ability to use impulses or other means to get a good cabinet sim. Having a single option kills this feature for me, and probably, many others.

      @heresjonny666 9 років тому +4

    • @Crunchifyable2
      @Crunchifyable2 9 років тому

      I have a feeling this is a case of them trying to be everything to everyone and cash in on people wanting something similar to a Blackstar HT-20 (basically a 2 channel amp with half the power and hopefully half the weight of a ~45 watt amp).
      Unfortunately, it seems like the amp is filled with features for novices (like the colored direct output, useless for recording if it is anything but a clean direct out). You can't find a good video of how it sounds closed miced.
      My guess is its going to fall short and be price discounted later just because they cut corners in the pre-amp.
      My new years resolution is to never buy a tube amp again that has less than 4 12ax7s in it. This amp is just too late to the party.

      Rimfeldt I want to note that he is playing in the style that the original 5150 was desgined for which is 80s hard rock and halen style metal, being el84 it probably isn't as tight as the big brothers and possibly isn't great at tight moderrn metal. Would be interesting to see proper reviews once its released. The coloured outputs are stupid same with mesas speaker emulatiopn that can't be turned off, people use IRs now so a proper clean line out is a great idea!

    Ever thought about comparing 6505+ head and 6505+112? It would be really nice, i have seen some major shitstorms about it. I have 6505+112 myself, thats why i ask. Nah, i wont give you this one for tests :p

      I would LOVE for someone to do this and settle this for once and for all. Especially since I am thinking about getting a 6505+ 1x12, but would consider a used head instead if I could find one (most likely cant.). SO its a 6505+ 1x12 or a Bugera 6262 or nothin.

      Converting 6505 combo into head is pretty common technique, since stock speaker in it is kinda bad. I wanna know how big the difference is. I will probably do this in the future, I think original head it is way too expensive for me. In USA its so easy to get nice equipment :< Yep, once and for all. Glenn would nail it.

    Made in China. I'll keep my USA made 5150s. I love this concept though, I've always wanted a 5150 in a smaller package so maybe I'll haave a look at one once it's available in stores.

    How fucking unlucky am I? I bought a 6505+ 112 combo a month ago for the sole purpose of a cheaper 6505, and then this comes out. If it's not that expensive, I might sell my 112 and get this instead.

    • @Crunchifyable2
      @Crunchifyable2 9 років тому

      The mini is only 100 bucks cheaper, lacks a speaker, and doesn't have the original tone circuit. Basically, it's an imitation that no one knows how good it will be. So if you wanted the 6505 sound, you did fine imo.

    They gotta stop having company reps demo these amps for us. Some Brit with a Peavey shirt isn’t a worthy candidate. Give us a legit metal guitarist. This is a METAL amp.

    Sounds cool, never have been a fan of the 5150 or 6505, always thought from what i heard from the big bands out there, that it always sounds like a compressed chainsaw, with a poor crunch, especially on the sheffields and even on Made in China V30 (don't like them so much), You gotta look up for what the brand did back in the day 40 to 20 years ago, Peavey Butcher and Triumph for a growly and crunchy sound with beautiful low meds, the Ultra 60 for a punchy crunch and fat sound, Peavey Bravo which has an amazing sound (works good on V30/T75 etc ..)

    Interesting example of how to use ( waste ) tubes to get that authentic buzzy solid state sound . Much wiser and cheaper just to get the mighty M Zone pedal for 40 bucks .
