On this weeks episode I show you how to install the Victron Energy Cerbo GX and go into ALL of my Victron product settings. I'll show you the VRM online portal and some of the features of that and how to navigate through it all. There is TONS of information on there so I couldn’t go into it all but I show what’s important to me.

Nice summary of the VRM operation. FYI, the drop offs on the last graph you showed of the solar charge controller output are not birds. About every 10 minutes, the MPPT controller varies the voltage down on the solar panels to see if there is a voltage that produces more power output from the panels for a given sunlight situation. That is the essence of what a MPPT controller does. It seeks the maximum power output the panels are capable of delivering.
I appreciate that information. Always learning. Thank you.
Thanks for the overview Devil Dog! Semper Fi!
Semper Fi! Thanks!!!
Thanks for the info. I was struggling to figure out the shore power priority on the virtual switch.
Great to hear I was able to help! Thank you so much
Very helpful .... I want to use the battery more than shore power but if power goes out when batt low (er) I'd wish it was fully charged ... sort of a perplex.. I want to spend less on shore power bill
Thank you. Ya there are a few ways to setup the Victron system to only pull from shore power when not enough solar or battery’s too low or AC load too high.
Could you connect two GX touchscreens to one Cerbo CX at the same time?
For example: one for the dashboard for when you're driving, and one in the back for when you're using electricity?
Unfortunately no, the gx only has one port for a display. However, what you can do is Nina talk the one in the back as normal and when driving you fan pull up the VRM app on a phone or small tablet that you can Mount and have all the information right there.
Very informative vidéo ! I'm going into the Victron and do i need a Dong to program the inverter charger or can i only use the screen via the Cerbo GX ? Tks
If you have it connected to the Cerbo gx you can access the multiplus through VRM. In VRM you click device list and go down the Remote VEConfigure and you will be able to access the settings.
we i goto device list and click my multiples I have no option to configure. Did you turn that on somewhere?
I’m not sure you’re in the right area. Are you using ve config on a windows?
Hey - did you have the victron bluetooth solar controller or the non-bluetooth solar controller? I have the non-BT one. I was hoping that i would be able to do all the config on the cerbo. Thoughts? thanks, C
Mine have always been the BT version. I have not ever configured a MPPT through a Cerbo personally
Hello. I’m looking to add the cerbo gx. On the multiplus I currently have the Remote control. If you add the cerbo gx with the connect app. Can you still change the state or amps through the Bluetooth? Or does the remote controller override it? I want to also add the screen but not sure if the screen will allow the state of multiplus to be changed as well.
Hey Bill, thanks for watching! You can change it through either one. Bluetooth through the dongle or through the Cerbo. Neither override each other. If you change it in Bluetooth, it shows in the GX, if you change it on the GX, it shows it on the Bluetooth. Great question by the way!
Hi, to correctly work a Cerbo GX absolutely needs a BMV Battery monitor or a smartshunt will be enough to check the battery status etc?
Victron Smartshunt is fine as well. It has the same ve direct port that plugs into the Cerbo
I just got a cerbo gx and a couple 01000 temperature monitors. How do I access the temperature reading? They don’t show up under devices and there is no option to add them.
Hey Tommy, I’m not familiar with what you’re talking about with the 01000 temperature monitors. Victron now has the Ruuvi temp sensors that are Bluetooth along with the temperature sensors that can be plugged in to a multiplus or BMV or something similar.
Are you able to set this up so that, it uses battery or solar to offset grid when hooked up to shore? My understanding is that you can use ESS to set the multiplus up in a sorta grid tie like inverter where it does not send power to the grid but uses the solar/inverter to power loads and only takes what it needs from the grid.
Yes. This is exactly how I have it set up right now!!!
Everything in my RV runs off the batteries which are charged by the solar. It only pulls from the grid if my batteries drop below a certain percentage that I set. I can also set it for a certain wattage such as when the air conditioner turns on. Which in this video I think is actually how I have it set up at that time.
@@WhyNotRV thank you for the reply!!! Information on that setup and use of the software seems to be hard to find. You really put a lot of information in your videos. Thank you!

@@WhyNotRV okay sounds great. I really appreciate that! Probably be a few months until I get my system. I have a magnum system now, but I'll be switching to the victron with diy lithium cells.
Good luck with the project
I am in the site , I need to set up cerbo Gx, may I have ur assistant on how to set up please
This is why I create the videos. What are you having trouble with?
Fortunately to see your video, JUNTEK has launched the new KG140F. We look forward to your comments.
Thanks for watching. I’m unfamiliar with that specific product. Looks like it’s sold by Walmart…
@@WhyNotRV Okay, it's mainly a battery capacity tester
Is there any reason why I should not power my Cerbo GX from the load output terminals on my Victron MPPT charge controller instead of connecting it directly to the battery?
The only reason I would not do that is a.) if the mppt were to fail you will also lose the cerbo… b.) if doing a remote ve configure update and that reboots the mppt which will cut power to the cerbo which is doing the update. You will cause failure. The cerbo should always be direct to the battery so it NEVER loses power
@@WhyNotRV thank you!
Anytime!
5:03 is it possible to use VE configure remotely ? I mean doing all these settings but via vrm portal or any other way ? or one should have this mk3 to usb converter with him to be able to use VE configure app wioth the victron quadro 10kva model
If your Quattro is plugged into a Cerbo gx you can do all this remotely from anywhere in the world.
@@WhyNotRV what if its plugged into color gx ? still possible ?
if yes then pls tell how
At the end over the video, you showed us your solar production graphs. Those little drop offs are not birds, mine does the same thing. I suspect that periodically the solar charger drops out to check baseline battery voltage and state.
It only dropped like 150-200 watts from maybe a second or 2. I have some very large hawks in my neighborhood. I figured there shadow dropped the production when they flew by. I went olio on the roof and cast my shadow on a few panels to see the result and it did a similar thing. Dropped about 200 watts and went right back up. Victron mppt is constantly being reported the battery soc voltage and temp all from the battery monitor it’s linked to.
The MPPT does a full sweep every 15 minutes to make sure it is on the right maximum spot.
if you get a cerbo gx in the system.. can all settings for multiplus inverter , charger controler and other victron products that can be connected to cerbo gx be done using the cerbo gx? are any other interfaces and cables needed to be able to do the settings 100%.?
The Cerbo gx will allow you to program all aspects of the multiplus. Any other chargers (solar or dc-dc) are programmed via Bluetooth and the Victron app.
@@WhyNotRV got it. makes sense. your videos are helpful.
Thank you!!!
The Cerbo Gx only works with victron equipment or inverters can u use another inverter with the Cerbo Gx ?
The Cerbo gx is for Victron only products. It’s the central hub for all the data to go through
@@WhyNotRV thanks I've been up all night researching I just bought two Victron Blue Solar 100/30 Mppt charge controllers a smart shunt & I'ma pickup the Cerbo Gx here in a min it's going to take me a minute to get the victron 24 volt inverter but I've seen the Cerbo Gx being used with other none victron inverters
Oh really? I’m curious how it communicates with other non Victron OS inverters. The multiplus is hands down the best inverter on the market in my opinion. Truly an incredible piece of technology.
@@WhyNotRV yes the multiplus is a beast but yea I seen one video he had all the victron components but his inverter was something else I'm not sure if the Cerbo Gx was monitoring his inverter but it will show hooked up and running his system
Hmmm. Ya I’m curious on that.
HI, Thank you for the video, quick question, I have 12 of these Valence U27-12XP , they are in 3 group of 4, to bring it to 48V for each group, I am in process of buying charger/inverter multiplus II, 48v, my question is when all hooked up , can you explain how does charger , charges the batteries ? does it charge as group or all 12 as same time? i am bit confused since like you I don't BMS ... thanks
I don’t have a 48v system but it should all work the same way. It’ll charge all 12 together. You just have to obviously make sure your batteries are wired correctly being that you’re doing the series parallel combo
@@WhyNotRV thank you for the reply, ...do you any issue with cell balancing on each battery? or BMS inside of each battery will take care of the balancing the cells? Do you need Smart Dongle for the multiplus since you add Cerbo GX, ? thanks
So from what I’ve heard they don’t do cell balancing by themselves. Every time I plug my computer in to check them I get some that say cell balance active. I just don’t know if they stay balancing when I unplug the computer. I just bought the thunderstruck valence bms. I believe for you, you’d need 3, 1 for each set of 4. But honestly I’m not sure.
@@WhyNotRV thanks and Please keep up posted on the thunderstruck valence bms,. One last question, Do you need Smart Dongle for the multiplus since you add Cerbo GX, ? thanks
I don’t need it anymore no. But I already have it so I hooked it up just to have for quick access to restricting the amps.
is that yer personal email?
