    Hint: drop a couple of 5/16th ball bearings into the bottle when you ad the tint, to act as acitators to help mix the base and the tint, and then the catalyst.

    I used this on my K5 Blazer interior and cargo area . I took everything to bare metal , sprayed with epoxy primer , then used the shutz gun [ I had to use 50 psi ] with the Raptor white tint kit . I'm really impressed with how it looks and it is very tough . It also seems to stick very well and I think just scuffing the old paint would have worked fine , but I wanted to be sure there was no rust that needed to be repaired under the origional paint . However , I was only able to get one coat on most of the front floor area before I ran out . Since it will be covered with a Stock Interiors molded vinyl floor I just decided to live with it , because I put 2 very heavy coats of epoxy on under it . My advise is get more than you think you need , because if you have to wait for more liner to arrive after you discover you didn't have enough , you will have to scuff the first coat to get it to stick . I wish I would have bought more . This is an excellent product if you dont want a grippy , rubbery type liner like Herculiner . I also like the Herculiner [ non aerosol ] because it is very tough and rubbery . I used it to line my wheel housings with a shutz gun , the rocks just bounce off of it with no chipping . Herculiner also is great for a super tough non skid for things like stair or step treads .

      Jonny Page > My son started a project that he used a rubberized spray can product. It was painted over with base coat / clear and I used a heat gun & semi-rigid scraper or 1 inch putty knife. It came right off after heating it. I focused on one area with the heat gun, then hit it with the scraper while still really warm. It peeled right off. If you have this and this is your question, give it a try. I have a wagoner heat gun sold at home improvement stores. I think they sell two speed unit now, but you are heating the product, not the frame or metal.
      The Raptor works as it is catalyzed and works more like an epoxy that has “UV” additives and resist chips.

    The video mentions adding gloss to the Raptor Liner product, I'm looking to buy 3-4 kits to do my truck frame in black and then color match and paint the entire exterior body. What product would best suit the Raptor to add an extra shine to the finish? Is it better to add a glossifier to the Raptor and spray it in one coat, or to spray a clear coat over the Raptor. Also, is there a product page for the Raptor Epoxy primer so I can order it? Thank you for all the help and great videos!

    • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  7 років тому +2

      Hi Jared. RAPTOR dries to a semi-gloss/eggshell finish, which most people find to be plenty of gloss. If you want even more gloss, you can apply a clearcoat over top. Keep in mind this isn't the best option depending on the application. Clearcoat does not have nearly the same durability and protective characteristics as RAPTOR, so if you apply to the bed of a work truck or another area that will be getting a beating, you may experience chipping of the clearcoat while the RAPTOR will still intact. Applying a clearcoat over RAPTOR on the exterior of your vehicle will probably be okay as long as you are not too hard on the exterior of the vehicle. If you have more technical questions, feel free to comment again here or call into our main office for immediate technical help at (610) 746-7081.

    How do you prep a brand new truck if you are going to use this product as an underlining/undercoating?

    • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  5 років тому +2

      Firstly you will need to identify the coating that the Raptor is to be applied to .If it is OEM paint the surface will need to be abraded with P180 and a fine scuff pad, any local break throughs will need to be treated with U-POL Acid # 8. If the coating is a 1K product it will need to be removed and the substrate preparing to the Raptor TDS recommendations which can be found at www.raptorcoatings.com. This can be identified by performing a solvent test.Apply some paint thinner to a rag and set it on a small area of the surface for 5 minutes .If there is no softening or discolouration the surface will need to be abraded with P180 and a fine scuff pad, any local break throughs will need to be treated with U-POL Acid # 8.

    • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  6 років тому +2

      Hi Lon, Raptor is not glossy, it has a gloss level of less than 10. For a matter finish when applying with a texture, you can increase the air pressure and stand back dropping the final coat on. For a smooth texture see below: Mix: 3:1+15-20% thinners (good acrylic thinners) ; Gun: 1.4 - 2.0 depending on the desired finish ; Air pressure: 2.0-2.5 bar at the gun. The smooth texture will dry to a semi matte finish. Hope it helps

    • @UPOLRaptor

      Good morning, yes you can. However, clearcoats do not have the same level of durability as RAPTOR and are more likely to chip under heavy duty use. Lightly abrade fully cured RAPTOR with a gray scuff pad. U-POL 2K clearcoats, like UP2882 and UP2872V, use the same resin system as RAPTOR so U-POL clearcoats will give the best results. • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  6 років тому

      Hello, Our RAPTOR product is designed for the automotive and industrial markets, the product emits solvent odours when applied also after a duration of time, please see below recommendation below for application inside a vehicle. Care needs to be made that the liner does not come into contact with exposed skin, the eyes and if sprayed that inhalation of the spray mist is avoided through choice of suitable spray masks. All users of isocyanate cured bedliners (including RAPTOR) need to make sure that they are aware of the risks and take sufficient care to control them through appropriate selection of personal protective equipment (in some countries the type of protection needed and the training required before applying these products is mandated by the local regulators. Isocyanate monomers such as MDI or hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) do make up a very small proportion of the hardener used and will react when the product cures to form the coating. However, these have very low vapour pressures and high boiling points (314oC/597oF in the case of MDI) and will not evaporate to form fumes in normal conditions, so even if there are small amounts of unreacted monomer in the film it will not evaporate to form ‘toxic fumes’. The inhalation risk from isocyanates is only relevant and needs to be controlled when the coating is being applied (by avoiding inhalation of spray mists) not when using the truck after paint has dried.
      With respect to solvent emissions, the vast majority of the solvents leave the film immediately after spraying. However, it is true that a small amount of solvent is emitted from the film in the months following application. The amount released is relatively small and you will notice that the characteristic odour of a solvent based paint diminishes over time. We would always recommend that if a solvent based paint is applied in an interior setting that it is ensured there is good ventilation in the first few days following application.I hope this helps your information regards RAPTOR, this is relevant when using in confined areas and on items such as bathtubs.

    • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  5 років тому +1

      Hi Brayden, RAPTOR can be topcoated, but generally, it's not needed. RAPTOR dries to a semi-gloss/eggshell finish, which most people find to be plenty of gloss. Clearcoats do not have the same level of durability as RAPTOR and are more likely to chip under heavy duty use. Lightly abrade fully cured RAPTOR with a gray scuff pad. U-POL 2K clearcoats, like UP2882 and UP2872V, use the same resin system as RAPTOR so U-POL clearcoats will give the best results.

      Here is the deal. The upol Raptor coating is a polyurethane. Polyurethane by default doesn't have great mechanical adhesion to porous substrates. But epoxy does. And polyurethane has Excellent chemical adhesion to epoxy. So essentially, the epoxy primer mechanically adheres to the rough sanded surface of the truck bed. Then the Upol Raptor polyurethane coating chemically adheres to the epoxy. Making the coatings combine into one chemically, and making it actually part of the truck. In lamens terms

    What is the maximun thickness that can be achieved with 2 kits?

    • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  6 років тому

      Hi Jose. It's hard to say. It would be dependent on how large an area it was being applied to and the type of equipment being used (0726 gun, HVLP, rolled). As a general rule, no more than 2 coats is recommended due to increased cure time and possible solvent entrapment due to excessive mil build.
      Applying 2 medium coats of RAPTOR is recommended. Mil build is - 1 Coat: 230μ (9.0 MILs) 2 Coats: 475μ (18.7 MILs). Measurements are approximate and are dependent on the application method.

    • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  6 років тому

      Hi Jose. It depends on what you mean by a "hopper gun". Some of our competitors use / require a hopper gun for applying their product. As a general rule, it is not necessary to apply RAPTOR with a hopper gun. Depending on the texture desired, typically the Shultz gun or a regular HVLP gun with a nozzle set ranging from about a 1.4 up to a 2.5 is what’s used. That being said, technically or applicationally there isn’t a reason that you couldn’t use one..
      If you're talking about the type of hopper guns used in powder coating, there have very little air pressure, around 7-10 psi, and these won’t work.
      If you are talking about a pressure pot, yes, RAPTOR can be used with a pressure pot.

Keep in mind that whatever you paint over the RAPTOR is not going to have the same level of durability as RAPTOR and will be more likely to chip, exposing the RAPTOR underneath.
      If you want to over-paint RAPTOR, lightly abrade fully cured RAPTOR with a gray scuff pad. U-POL 2K clearcoats, like UP2882 and UP2872V, use the same resin system as RAPTOR so U-POL clearcoats will give the best results.
