Great informative video content! I have a ‘05 F-350 SRW, my daily driver in Pittsburgh Pa. My bed rails rusted so I bought a kit from Dorman to weld on. After seeing the state of my frame (surface rust) I decided to clean it off. I had it undercoated two years ago. So, cleaning the frame, cab & bed wasn’t too bad. I will have it undercoated annually from here on every early fall. I’m using POR-15 for the axles, driveshaft, leaf springs & coils. And priming & painting the underside of the bed & rails. Your video (as all of them) is very helpful & detailed. I have learned so much about undercoating & other stuff. Thanks so much for all you do making your videos and look forward to seeing your next video!
I'm planning on doing something similar to my truck once I get my home and shop built. Clean and paint the frame. I want to also "close" all the big holes in the frame so that mud and grim doesn't get inside the frame and rust it from inside out. Need to leave some small drain holes so that any water can drain out though. Another thing you could do is buy an empty paint can and pour all the Raptor liner in it and take that to the store along with part, to get mixed up. Stand those bottles upside down for a few days to help the parts that settled to the bottom, get mixed up better too. They also might be able to shake those bottles too before hand if you ask. Nice job.
I've done several vehicle interiors with Raptor and totally agree with you......multiple thin coats. The final product is amazing. I'm currently doing my third Jeep in Raptor.
Wow great timing. I am doing my truck over the next few days. Started tearing stuff off it today. Doing whole truck. But i plan on thinning mine about 5 to 10%. Ibought the 2 gallon kit, going dark green. I hope i got enough.
The only way to match paint is to spray the Bedliner with base and clear…just like you paint a vehicle. Mixing paint with bedliner never turns out as a match. We do restorations and spray bedliners with a professional setup…but raptor does make a good product. Excellent video and professional work.
I see a lot of folks using the Raptor Liner as undercoating. Could you comment on the advantage of that versus the rubberized undercoating us old guys grew up with? Great videos by the way. Thanks!!
Fantastic videos. I am going through the same process with the same products. How much time did you between the master coat primer and the raptor liner? Pat from master coat was advising to spray the raptor while the primer was tacking up. Thanks pal!! Keep it up
I did exactly what Pat told you to do and it's been great. I waited probably an hour or 2 between spraying the Mastercoat and applying the Raptor. Mixing the Raptor will take some time. So figure spray the Master, wait and hour, start mixing up the Raptor, and then start spraying the Raptor. Use some of your time between coats to mix up your Raptor.
Awesome thanks buddy. I was so pumped to find the video because mastercoat is 30 minutes local to me and I avoided a POR15 approach (even after purchasing all of it). Again, excellent content with thorough geek appeal. I’ll let you know how mine comes out
Question, would you spray your favorite rust proofing spray say fluid film or surface shield to protect entire engine compartment from rusting(iron,Al block, electrical metal components, etc)?
Great video! Couple questions: does Raptor stipulate compressor cfm requirements? Mine puts out 5.0 cfm@90psi...no idea the cfm at something like 50psi. Also, what is the working time before the bottle contents sets up? Planning some rust prep and minor repair before using this to paint my vintage snowcat exterior. Probably won't go with the tintable version since I don't have access to an automotive paint supplier...unless I can purchase on-line.
Excellent work. This is not an easy job to prepare. Many hours of work. Aside from the work is video setup, editing and voice over. Not many people can be this dedicated to a project.
I painted my whole truck with the raptor and I also have a sections I did not paint which I have 3M reflective sections for advertising for my company and power waggon logo
How long did you wait between coats? I can’t seem to find this information in any of your undercoating videos. i.e did you wait days between the master coat and the raptor and scuffed in-between? How about between the raptor and the AG111
Once the Mastercoat started to get tacky I sprayed the Raptor. If you spray the products when the previous layer is still wet, it lets the solvents mix and gives a great bond. The coating on the bottom of this car has been like concrete.
Thanks for the very fast response! I just watched this whole video again and it seems like you let the raptor fully cure? Or did you also let it flash and apply AG111 while still tacky?
Very very good video .i have a question .been researching doing the same thing as i hqve an e66 760 with undetside need doing .i want raptor liner final finish .i found ur video and really like all you have done ,unfortunately masterclass isnt avqilqble in ireland .have you any suggestions maybe what ud use in place of the the masterclass kit .i do hqve access to bilt hamer deox gel .
Try to find a rust encapsulating paint that has a lot of aluminum in it and moisture cured if possible. That will pull the moisture out of the rust as the pain cures.
Can anyone explain to me why this was used instead of a rust prevention like B'laster Surface Shield or Fluid Film? Is it because like he said 'this car will only see rain 5 days a year' (and most definitely will not see salt? This is a mustang like he said, so just a fair weather car? SO... this should NOT be done on an overlanding SUV - and instead Fluid Film/Woolwax/B'laster Surface Shield should be used instead? (Do I have that straight in my head?) I have a Rav4 that I want to keep forever and take it anywhere, anytime, so this would not be good for my car, correct? This video is still awesome by the way, (even if it doesn't apply to my needs) I love your work; keep it up! Thanks for the mini education! Cheers :D
Well, for starters I wanted a clean chassis on this car not one that was oily. Like you deduced the environment that this car is exposed to is not nearly as harsh as one of my vehicles driven every day. I also had a bunch of people that wanted me to explore a traditional paint type option for vehicles that they were looking to restore or trailers, fence posts to paint, etc. The main issue with paint is it will all eventually chip crack flake and peel. Lanolin undercoat will do none of those things and requires no prep or masking.
@@RepairGeek Would It helped to put lanolin over the top of this raptor liner? Would that add anything to the equation? Would it give it some self healing properties? Or any layer of protection from salt / snow? How about doing something like this raptor liner, then doing a lanolin product yearly to catch any defects? We are restoring a rusted 1979 van and want to use something black on the wheel wells and bottom for looks, because it is lifted and you can see a bit of the bottom. Trying to figure out a good combo for it.
@Repair Geek, can you test different liners for flammability? Or at least Raptor? I was reading recently where some folks were saying it was very flammable, other people were saying certain brands burned rapidly while others were self extinguishing. I think this is especially important if people are using them to paint the interior or the whole car. Thank you!
Hi great videos. I'm a fan. I'm thinking of installing a lift in my garage. What is the thickness that is required for a similar lift like yours, and do you recommend one lift over another? I'm in my 60's and it's getting harder to do repairs on the floor.
If you go wayyy back in my videos the first videos I ever did were putting this lift together. I didn't really know what I was doing as far as editing and camera work so for me it's hard to watch but the information is good. My recommendation is to pick out the lift and spec the concrete around that. A 10k lb 2 post lift has different requirements than a 14k 2post lift.
When spraying metallics they are always darker in the tin. You have to spray them out to see if the color is actually different. Putting it in raptor and spraying it through a body deadener gun isn't going to make the metal flakes stand up like they are meant to affecting the end color. Im actually a licensed auto painter.
What CFM is required for the spray gun? I have a smaller Makita 5200 compressor that puts out 6.5 CFM at 40psi. And I need to remove the rust and rust proof the under side of a steel cargo trailer i have that i use for my snowmobiles
Hi, Just subscribed your channel. cant believe how i missed you out. Quick question, do you have or recommmend a spray can for priming over after preping rust. i dont have commpressor. Apprecaite your help.
It's tough to say. I made a lot of changes to the car while it was stripped down like this. Without riding in 2 cars back to back one with and one without it, I doubt you'd notice a difference.
Just sprayed raptor last week and it’s great to work with. I used the “professional” gun and it took about 10 seconds to dial in perfect. Two coats liner over two coats of their epoxy primer on bare steel off-road bumper prepped with grinder/sander and tons of panel prep wipe down. Hoping it lasts a while. Think I was at around 45 psi with two turns out from closed, nice soft texture. A water/oil separator is good idea it sucked a lot of moisture out the lines.
@@Ben-xo3bj Raptor sells a nicer version of their gun basically its just got an adjustable tip to change spray pattern/volume etc. i dont think you could get it to work right from a regular gun, it isnt really supposed to be thinned much if at all it would clog right away in most hvlp, plus you gotta hose it on pretty heavy for the good results.
I would not reccomend doing this unless your vehicle is brand new. I did this some years ago on my truck. I'm now looking for a new frame and bed. I'll be using just surface shield from here on out
You got me laughing with your comment on a heavy coat and scrapping your knuckles. I have a buddy that painted the exterior of his off-road Jeep with such a product. He did it with a roller and hot damn is it a tough coating! But when it was new it would cut you good it you brushed up against it! So your not exaggerating when you say it will rough you up a bit. And maybe not use a roller. 😂Lol. Long live DIRT BALL!!
Your colour tint is off because the Raptor Liner is a cream colour so tints the paint tint away from a match, it can only ever get you somewhere close.. any closer is a trial by error re tinting and testing to get the finish closer.
Thanks for the video. I have my Black kit and will be applying to underneath a 69 Camaro in a couple days. A few questions: 1) I have the underside newly restored and painted in 2k epoxy. It isn't slick at all, probably the same texture as the primer you had. Did you have a concern about scuffing your primer for Raptor better adhesion? 2) Unless I missed it, I did not see any instructions on how to set the gun nozzle threads , all in/halfway out/all out. In fact the gun was just thrown in the paint box, it was not individually boxed. You stated you left yours halfway out? Does that affect pattern? 3) My chassis is on a lift also. Did you have issues/concerns about tilting the nozzle, or what was the max tilt you could go, like ~45° ? Thanks again
1) I sprayed my raptor when my primer was still tacky. That let the solvents in the primer and the raptor mix a little giving a great bond. I'd contact Raptor and see what exactly they recommend for your situation. 2) The nozzle was set halfway out. With this standard gun raptor gun that I used that tip position doesn't change much. They have a "pro" version that has more adjustably. 3) The gun has a vent hole in it to let air back into the bottle. You can put that gun in about any position as long as the product isn't leaking out of the vent, and the suction straw in the bottle is submerged it will spray.
Love your videos, thanks very much for all the work you put in! Would you recommend using Raptor Liner to paint the insides of the wheel wells on my Ford E350? As far as I can tell there are no OEM or aftermarket options available for plastic wheel well liners, so I'm looking for the next best alternative. My main concern is preventing rust on this vehicle, but I've read that Fluid Film and the like gets worn away pretty quickly in the wheel wells from all the debris that is flung up by the tires. After watching this video, I am wondering if the bridge primer + raptor liner in the wheel wells might be a good option. Thank you in advance!
The easiest option is cosmoline the wheel wells. Do multiple coats. Or some sort of heavy grease. Woolwax as well as NHOU makes some. You will have to touch this option up from time to time. But there is no masking, no prep work and no real procedure other than spray or brush it on. You will want to treat the inside of the wheel well as well with any lanolin product. Don't use the cosmoline on any internal surface of the vehicle. ua-cam.com/video/WZr4qoKGfXs/v-deo.html My biggest concern with the Mastercoat primer + Raptor Liner option would be rock chips. The options stated above won't chip, crack, flake, or peel. I did what I did on this car because this car is only driven maybe 3,000 miles a year tops and only in the summer. It never sees any sort of harsh environment like the cars I drive every day. Since this car is only really driven when the weather is good paint will hold up. Paint is too much work for a vehicle that you drive every day.
Nice idea but Raptor actually makes a undercoating and they don't suggest you use regular raptor for undercoating. This is a big risk to take, you could be setting your self up for even worse rust issues.
@@RepairGeek that's the primer and on a bridge that never moves. Also find a bridge that has been painted with it and doesn't need touch up maintenance in over 20 yrs. Once a chip forms and moisture gets in, eather the liner will peel or can make rust advance. We shall see over time. Follow up videos would be great every year for 20yrs lol.
@@jr303official yeah bridges flex 😆. You're correct about chips but, Raptor's undercoat is going to chip as well. So I'm not sure how you see Raptor's undercoating as an advantage. This car doesn't see rain let alone winter. This won't be a problem on this car. Feel free to Google the Pittsburgh Homestead High Level Bridge. After 14 years no touch up shows less than 5% corrosion using this primer. 14 years of road salt, rain, UV... less than 5%...
@@RepairGeek I hope you make follow up videos and I hope the very best. I wanted to use it as undercoating but U-pol told me not to use it as undercoating.
Raptor will flex. I've used it on plastic fender flares and I think I have a video of how much it will flex. If the bottom of your car flexes as much as a flare, then you've wrapped it around a tree.
i did this and i regret it so much, the raptor liner cracks at all the body seams that flex and lets water in and rust starts then it all needs to be removed, not an easy or fun job
My word.. Are you demonstrating spraying a 2K product with only a dust mask? PLEASE everyone watching this, you don't need a full face positive pressure unit, but please use an appropriate organic vapor cartridge on a mask. These are cheap and are saving your lungs and brain cells.
Your colour tint is off because the Raptor Liner is a cream colour so tints the paint tint away from a match, it can only ever get you somewhere close.. any closer is a trial by error re tinting and testing to get the finish closer.
I don't disagree but, I do know that it's normal to have to tint paint to match a specific vehicle. Just because you tell a paint shop you need Ford: TK that doesn't guarantee an exact match to the vehicle you're dealing with.

A few questions:
1) I have the underside newly restored and painted in 2k epoxy.
You can put that gun in about any position as long as the product isn't leaking out of the vent, and the suction straw in the bottle is submerged it will spray.
it's ok if not have rust ,the metal need to be like new if have rust just with oil or marine veseline is the best!.
how much paint do you add to your tintable raptor ?
3oz of paint per bottle of Raptor.
@@RepairGeek cheers buddy
How much raptor did you end up using?
3 Qts.
Fuck that match that shit is beautiful
Don't use the cosmoline on any internal surface of the vehicle. ua-cam.com/video/WZr4qoKGfXs/v-deo.html
My biggest concern with the Mastercoat primer + Raptor Liner option would be rock chips.
@@RepairGeek THANK YOU! Yes I remember your comment about not using cosmoline on internal surfaces from your linked video. Excellent advice as always!

3:46 Everything reminds me of her :(
Just don’t put your finger over the tip end like a spray gun, don’t ask me how I know 😆
My word.. Are you demonstrating spraying a 2K product with only a dust mask? PLEASE everyone watching this, you don't need a full face positive pressure unit, but please use an appropriate organic vapor cartridge on a mask. These are cheap and are saving your lungs and brain cells.
but woolwax!?
Your colour tint is off because the Raptor Liner is a cream colour so tints the paint tint away from a match, it can only ever get you somewhere close.. any closer is a trial by error re tinting and testing to get the finish closer.
I don't disagree but, I do know that it's normal to have to tint paint to match a specific vehicle. Just because you tell a paint shop you need Ford: TK that doesn't guarantee an exact match to the vehicle you're dealing with.
