always such a blessing to come back to this practise. Since becoming a yoga teacher, I realised I have not made enough time for my own practise ... these vidoes transport me to another world and then bring me back home so beautifully. thank you for sharing them here. i know i wouldn't be a teacher without finding the original primary series video 13 years ago... and I'm sure it's the same for many other teachers and students that your flow has been an anchor throughout their yoga journey. here is to many more flows with you, and the magic that is all of us using the same video to practise with, knowing we are a part of a global yoga flow together! how special... i'm glad to share this breath with you all
I can’t say enough what the 45 minute short form (plus progressive relaxation at the end) has done for me during the pandemic. Parenting three children 24-7 and working are intense, and this shortened version of the primary series has enabled me in making this a daily practice. Aches and pains go away or are lessened, my breathing is deeper and fuller throughout the day, and when stressed I can tap back into the physical feeling of relaxation. Each day I say aloud at the end of the video “Thank you, David”. Indeed. Thank you.
Thank you for making this available online. I have paid for this both on vhs and DVD. Through the last 15 years I have come back to this 45 minute routine again and again. I am grateful to have access to it from my phone now on UA-cam. Namaste!
My favorite/first ashtanga teacher! Since we don't have VHS or DVDs anymore, I have been missing these videos. So happy to see them available on UA-cam. Hari Om!
DAVID.... I am very grateful to see these available again. I was practicing regularly and when these videos were not available anymore I was heart broken and lost my regular daily practice because I couldn't find anything I resonate with as much as I do with you. Today I decided to search again and maybe I find you again... and Thank you. June 9th is my birthday, and even though I found this today, it was made available on my birthday, in a much better, complete, whole version on your official Channel. Thank you with all my heart. You heard me. Namaste. May you always be Happy. I Look forward to future practices with you.
this has been so helpful in helping me to share this beautiful practice with LGBTQ+ & Black & Brown students with low access to this medicine! ty for all you do!
This is such a great video. Thank you so much Mr. Swenson for sharing your knowledge and spreading the love for the practice with the masses. Forever grateful for you.
Wow! This shorter practice is so good too! Your calm and clear way to teach makes it easy and a pleasure to follow and learn. I appreciate it a lot. Thank you! Namaste.
Wow ! I can’t believe I never thought to look for a shorter series. I have been doing the Primary Series video since I was 16 after being suggested it by a teacher. It’s been 7 years and I still can’t get through the entire video. It’s still a life goal of mine but I can’t believe I never just looked for shorter sequences as well!! Haha! Very grateful for this and hopefully this flow will be a building block to getting through that other long video later down the track. Thanks from Australia ❤️
I did a lot of Ashtanga but found myself injured at the beginning of the pandemic. I have been doing therapeutic types of yoga because I could not do Primary Series! Finally, I am getting stronger and this practice is perfect! I feel so good after doing this! Thank you!!!
Thank youuu so much!!!! I put your voice in my speakers, and it was as if I was practicing with you for real. Well, it was for real. I am grateful! thank you
Thanks so much for sharing this David. I've really enjoyed the 15 & 30 min routines. Great when undertaken with the help of 'The Ashtanga Practice Manual'.
This is such an excellent video. David was one of my first Ashtanga teachers. His book, classes were /are so influential. So many stories from the classes i had with him. So much Love and appreciation.
Thank you David! This video has been an inspiration all through these difficult months of the pandemic. I bought your Practice Manual about fifteen years ago when I first started doing ashtanga- fitter and slimmer back then. As opposed to the entire first series, I can do the shorter routine without much preparation and no risk of injury. Namaste!
Thank you so much, David, for making this video available. I have recently been practicing along with it daily. Just the right amount of challenge for me at present. I was familiar with this sequence from the "Ashtanga Practice Manual", which for several years has been my main guide to Ashtanga, and it has been very helpful to have the video. I hope someday to have a class with you in person. Namaste
Hi David! This has been my go-to yoga practice for the last 10 years or so! I’ve found it to be perfect for my life, daily routine and ability but recently bought your Ashtanga 1:08 DVD as I wanted to progress a bit further with the Primary Series and found it to be just that bit more challenging which is just what I wanted. However my ancient DVD player broke the other day and now I can’t get another one so I was wondering if you had any plans to make this available on your UA-cam channel at all please? It would be fantastic if you could and then I could do my practice on my iPad as I do with the 45 minute routine at the moment. Thank you David, you have been my yoga inspiration from my very first day of practice and I always never tire of doing the same routine - it gives me so much pleasure and solace in my life and I always look forward to my 45 minutes of calm focus and relaxation every day.
This short version was good to practice but the breathing is too fast for me..I also did not understand why it starts with quick breaths and then in some finale poses the breaths are so much longer. I definitely prefer practicing MySore by my self so I don't have to follow anyone else's breath pace. David's voice is very calming and gentle, I really like it and I appreciate his work. Thank you
I imagine myself keeping my belly still while breathing, so that only my rib cage is expanding. I like to picture when you give a dog a belly rub and their chest sticks out a lot while their belly stays tucked in lol.

Amazing - such an old recording and still so relevant, helpful and inspiring today! Om Namah Shivaya! 🙏💜🕉

What does it mean to engage your belly locks?

@@mauluccimeghan thank you!!!
They are called bhandas. There are several. They help with stability and other subtle benefits.
Thank you.
