At 20 I was worried what everyone thought. At 40 I quit carrying what everyone thought. At 60 I realized that no one was ever thinking about me at all. (I don't remember who said this but it wasn't me)
I was very fortunate to have met Randy at one of the RTR’s about 10 years ago and he’s just as friendly and full of wisdom as he appears in the videos. I’ll never forget him quoting without any effort, parts of Walden after I shared it was my favorite book of all time. Randy is the real deal.
CheapRVliving oh your welcome! I am kind of obsessed with this lifestyle. So I am very thankful for these insightful and informative videos. I would love to join this community- but I know there is a lot to learn so for now I will live vicariously and keep watching and soaking up all the knowledge I can.
I'm going to defer to google's def: the modulation of intonation or pitch in the voice. It's the way Randy may elongate a syllable or sound to add emphasis or emotion. :-)
kejeobo...THAT couldn't have been said any better! I simply love your analogy! You definitely hit the nail on the head! Randy DOES have a personality charisma that could be very addicting...funny, takes life with a grain of salt, is positive, a realist...and, the list goes on and on! When I read what you wrote I immediately pictured Randy just as we all did while talking to Bob in the interview. Thanks!
Wait is this randy the guy who wrote and recited such awesome poetry in a previous video? Wasnt he in Without Bounds? He mentions some great insights about life and being free and he says he lives on 600 a month I hope one day Im as free as him he is one awesome lucky guy
What a sweet, sweet man, but honey, there isn't room in there for a woman. If course that's my opinion. I think a woman with her own rig to park next to him (or a little bigger rig) might be the better way to go. Again, just my opinion. 😊
I can’t imagine not working. I am a nurse. I love my work. I guess I have found what fascinates me. The side benefit is I get paid to do it! Blessings to you all out on the road. My mom lived on a canal bank in Winterhaven CA, in a tent for years. This apple fell far from the tree.
Could you be a traveling nurse? That would give you the best of both! One guy, can't remember his name or UA-cam channel, but if you are interested, I could find. He is a traveling nurse; he lives in a GMC Suburban that he modified inside as a liveable home. He'll stay in the parking lot while he's working, then off to wherever when he's not. A Suburban would be way too small for me, so it would have to be a van - that I could stand up in - or an RV.
Love this - two Legends together in this video and still living legendary lives. I remember the original.Happy and safe trails to you both and crvl crew. 🙏🏼🐾🎶
Love his gentle spirit! Word of advise from a woman: be yourself and don't change to fit. the needs and expectations of someone else. Thanks for being real!
I have a cozy life as a trucker. I barely enter a truck stop only to get the fuel receipts. Never to eat food or such. I’m pretty much self contained, l cook bathe and portapotty too. I know that I can live this life.
This guy (Randy) seems like a real gregarious, fun guy to hang around with....someone who has learned how to enjoy his life with his easy going attitude....sometimes the person being interviewed is more interesting than anything learned from seeing the rig.
Randy must be a great guy to sit around and talk to. He is one of those very interesting people who never uses the word can't. Young people could learn a lot from him.
Absolutely love Randy's wit and positive attitude! He is my favorite of all your interviews. Although he and I are pretty close to the same age, he reminds me of some of my uncles I used to love to listen to when I was a kid. You two have a certain Magic when you get together that makes for a very entertaining interview! I gotta meet you two. It would be a pleasure to hear the stories you guys could tell. 😂 🚐💨
I have a 16' foxfire and have been living in it 4 years next to my work. I'm 59 And had to go on disability 1650.00$ a month. Now I want to travel, I have a 2009 Ford Ranger.
I just got back from a year in the Virgin Islands (my home). I went home to remember "free." Moved back to the US Bought a wee 16' Casita to remain free. Only been a few weeks, but I brought the spirit of my home (the VI) here to the US. I just want to want to remain a free person...........great video.
What a great way to live a life! Randy sure has a lot of experience, being a Nomad for 40 years. Think Randy shows the true way of living free andhappy, and indeed - as he says himself - this is the way to stay healthy, keep your inner peace and just be yourself. That book of his must be a real interesting colelction of expressions of that freedom and happiness. The van is cosy and spacy and looks nice. Am glad to se ehe has books in there too. Books are really important to me... Thanks for sharing Randy & Bob - all the best to you, Jason
The amount of intelligence and experience on camera between the two of you is awesome. Can I just say I loved seeing all the books strewn about?! Not a surprise but it makes me smile. Randy, I gotta say if a woman balks at your home and way of life, she's not the right woman for you. Don't EVER change how you do things based on someone else's opinions. So if a woman gets your testosterone a pumpin' and she turns her nose up to anything that brings you joy, mosey along. But...I know you know that. :-) Hope to cross your paths when I hit the road.
Randy's a pretty cool dude....Randy is seeking a gal who likes the here and now. His camper is cozy he will give her a posy. And she won't have to live like a sow.
I think he made his money by buying, redoing and selling his residences a few times. Made 100-150 K on that and has lived mobile on that money ever since. See his earlier interview with Bob.
I love it when you talk to Randy. He is always a positive note. It's good you didn't forget to mention his book like last time. Lol. Can't wait to meet you two some day.
You better believe that after I finish watching this video I am jumping on Amazon to hopefully find Randy's book and purchase. What an amazing person he is and I am inspired by his passionate outlook on life and his message of finding inner happiness. So many of these folks in these videos I have noticed all share a similar glow that radiates. There are many people that live in mini mansions that are desperately unhappy. My sister had a stressful unfulfilling job-she works 14 hour days. She is miserable and frankly miserable to be around. She also has to pay a mortgage that is now her responsibility since her husband left. (She had to pay HIM 1/2 of the homes value over there divorce decree. So a home that was nearly paid for now carries a hefty mortgage. She drives a gas guzzling huge SUV. She is the epitome of thinking this is what you need to be and look successful. An image. Randy's lifestyle and philosophy prove that true happiness is attainable and doesn't require a bunch of stuff (as George Carlin so aptly put).
I love the fact that you and randy are FREE Since my kids grew up and moved away and my husband passed away 23 yrs ago and I just want to be free and run since I retired almost 5 yrs ago and I just want to go and meet and be with other people thank you for sharing
He Randy. I am right here in Calgary...ready to go...come see what I should leave behind...I am so ready...I know my off grid was the best life ever...I hear it in your voice! I need a hug now...
Randy seems like a cool guy to hang with! God knows he’s the most experienced nomad out there. I would love to hear his stories of his years of living the free life! Be safe Randy!👍
I got his book after the last video you did with Randy. Amazing book. He is another person I would love to meet one day. I've had your book for about two years now, also a great book. I hope you have a wonderful RTR. Stay safe my friends, but most of all. "Stay happy!"
The years will fly by, especially if you start taking baby steps right now to make it happen; 1) Start selling all the crap that is nothing but a prison, and stop buying more!! Save every penny! 2) Start taking camping trips. First, go camping overnight in your car. Then camp for weekends. Then week long trips. 3) Then get a minivan and start sleeping in it in the driveway. Then two week trips in it. Then a month. 4) Start stealth parking around town. 5) Next, be searching for the vehicle you want to live in, but be very selective--you're in no hurry. If a killer deal comes up, grab it. 6) Keep working, but as soon as possible move out of your house/apartment into your vehicle and pay yourself the rent. Save big bucks!! 7) All along this time, work on your internal metamorphosis into the new beautiful butterfly you will become. Explore your old interests and hobbies. Go back to the ones you regret not following. 8) Learn new practical skills that will make your life better (sewing, cooking, carpentry, auto repair etc.) Become a learning machine! 9) Learn about jobs for nomads and get one. 10) Finally, tell your boss what he can do with that job!!
wow i am so impressed with how Mr. Randy has been living off grid for 40 years! thats impressive, the layout inside his rig really works and it looks to be really roomy. He has a nice chair to kick back in a full bathroom, and all the comforts of home. what is not to like. He is healthy and able and obvious creative As he has published his own book of poetry. the only disappointment was that you did not ask him to read us one of his favorites. Meanwhile i will leave you both a blessing, May you be filled with loving kindness, May you be well, May you be peaceful and at ease, and always sleep under the stars. happily and content. Thanks for sharing your home Mr. Randy, guess i will have to order your book to read your book, to learn of your fascinations.
Good show. My dad used to take me overnight fishing & camping when I was a kid in a Ford Super Cab 1970ish with a camper in the truck bed. I remember the stilts that balanced/elevated the camper off the bed of the truck. I'm 56 yrs old now, been working the last six months as a 1099 contractor. Today I suffered a TIA mini stroke. I was driving when this happened. It was over in a few minutes, but, I realized how precious time is now. To chill out and collect my senses, I opened the UA-cam app on my phone to watch/listen to something comforting. In my recommended feed was the documentary Without Bound. I had been viewing camping in your vehicle videos & bushcraft. The similar recommendations led me here. As a kid, I used to spend overnights inside that camper in the back yard. Feeling free and on my own. I'm in a lease and have some debt to pay down, but, kids are grown, so, I have nothing else holding me back. I'm going to "taper" into this lifestyle and see some of this country while I can.
Only very recently come across these guys and Randy and I cant get enough right now. Can you imagine Randys stories of biking Mexico and around? This way of life is calling
I really love when you and Randy talk together. I sense wisdom that most aren't doing in life. Simplicity and nature, along with genuine friends you actually hang out with is priceless.
Randy seems like a great guy. So easy going & intelligent. We're setting our cheap RV living goals now & one could do a lot worse than to live at peace with nature & the road with such great folk like these. Keep up the great videos
this is an awesome and informative interview and gives so many people inspiration to pursue this way of life. Chasing after a big house, huge mortgage, expensive cars and constant pressure/stress of keeping up with other people's expectations is surely killing a lot of people with horrible health issues. Randy proves that living as he does can be done!
What a jewel Randy is. There was a time when I thought people like him were crazy. Now, I know who the smart ones really are. I wish I had the smarts to do this 40 years ago.
I remember watching a video a year or more ago, in which the fellow said that when going mobile, you'll meet some strange people, but that's OK, you're one of them!
Wow...5 yrs ago...I love this guy, every comment is as beautiful as his soul...much love to all out there...I'm looking forward to finding you on the road...spending the next 11 months on winding things up. Looking for that Astro van to purchase and .... you know...every thing he said !!
This is the third time I've watched this video I love these 2 people together. I would love to hang out by the campfire with these 2. Where is randy now can we get an update please
Also pretty amazing that you guys are literally the grandfathers of nomadry. You will both be remembered forever literally creating history. Randy invented the cargo trailer for Gods sakes!!!
After finding your Cheap RV Living and watching many of your post, I'm getting my condo ready to sell, I've been researching various camper options, I'm downsizing and will be a nomad by the first of the year. I'm Very Grateful for your videos Bob, God Bless you. BTW Randy love your story.
What a great guy...living the dream...no stress, no worries and enjoying life to the full...my kinda life....wish I'd had the chance...would be out there now if I could....thanks for sharing...😁👍👍
Wow, fascinating. I really became drawn into this video. Randy eloquently laid out the "why" at the end. He really is a deep person. I'm 68 and he really took me back in time. He reminded me of a spirit I felt among some of my father's friends during my childhood. As a boy I would enjoy listening to their conversations, anecdotes and stories. Thank you.
That rain sound is so relaxing.I see myself living like this.Even with health issues I can live fine.as long as I can stand and cook and stretch I can make my own shower and a 4000 watt generator.its a lot of power but I can sell some electricity to my neighbors.or help out
If I didn't have a wife (she'd never go for it), I think I'd like to give the nomad life a try. I did the whole rat race thing for 45 years and often thought about what it would be like. Now that I'm retired, I have sufficient retirement income to really live like a king if I were on the road. I really admire your lifestyles.
Bob and Randy. I can't thank you enough for this fine video. I've been following you Bob for about 6 yrs. And met Randy through Without Bound. Best Two Sages of the Lifestyle. We are finally selling our modest home in Florida in Feb. and retiring to the road. Sorry to miss probably the best RTR so far. But hope to meet up with you some day. Thanks for all the wisdom, advice, education and love you send to us every day.
Randy is right. Im married with 4 children (one of which is severely disabled). At every given opportunity we go away in our 16ft caravan. I absolutely love being able to sleep in our own bed, take only what we absolutely need and getting back to basics. Sitting in nature, reading, colouring, crafting, puzzles, photography, music, fishing and settling in and watching a movie at night. Not to mention meeting some lovely people, or just being alone. We have vowed to wait until our children finish school and live on the road in 7 years time. Tfs and take care 🌹 🚙 😉
I have watched many many of your you tube clips but Randy's trail cruiser travel trailer is the best. It is so much more than just the usual in house tour. He gives a philosophy of 40 years on the road. I got a real sense of the freedom this man has been living with. His care free attitude along with his easy going jovial manner was very refreshing. This was a true representation of a true nomad not a 4 or 5 year self proclaimed expert. Randy has found his personal nervona and exudes a peacefulness that is truly catching. Bruce Matthews/full timer
I could watch you Randy all day 😊 you certainly are an inspiration. I'm a young golden girl who just bought me a starter live in motorhome for cheap and it's cozy. I love the coziness of it...And... love the feeling of FREEDOM .. From the checkbreakin financial burden Would love to hear more of Your adventures...
What a wealth of experience there must be between the two of you. I truly look forward to meeting both of you in person. I have always been a nomad at heart but until this past year have had to settle for short trips to the mountains in the summer. Thank you both for sharing your stories and taking this life style out of the fringe and showing people that there is a better way!
I enjoyed this video, Randy's chats are very good and I identify with his thinking and yours Bob as well. I have been on the road on cars, motor homes (RV) and BMW motorcycles towing a small trailer with the camping gear. The experience on touring on a motorcycle and camping every night is one that every body should experience. It is different to do it on a van or a RV, with them you passing trough with the motorbike you been there you were part of the environment. Have you all a great 2017.
I'm also a big fan of motorcyle touring and I've taken two very long trips. One was driving the Alaska Highway in October of 1978 back when driving the Alcan was still an adventure because none of it was paved.
Terry, Mark my words! Come to San Diego in exactly 6 months to interview me. I live out of a Honda Civic. I gutted it completely and cut a lot of the metal to get a nice big bed and living space. Come check it out in beautiful SD! BTW I love your work and you are a big part of inspiring me to get on the road. So is Randy for that matter. Love you guys! Keep up the great work!
Thanks Bob and Randy! I'm preparing to shuck the trap, and head out on freedom road! I'm learning all I can from y'all on UA-cam to get a rig ready in about a year. For now, I created my Jamper (my Jeep Liberty in camping mode) to let me get little tastes of freedom, until the trap is sprung.
I have come full circle, This is one of the first videos I watched. I love life on the road. Currently I am on the road in Wyoming. Heading out to Glacier National Park in a few days. My home base is in Arizona. Glad to get out of the heat.🦊
Hi again Bob. This is the second video I watched today with you and Randy Vining. You and Randy have very similiar philosophies of the NOMAD life, which I believe in, too. Now it's just a matter of 'letting go' my traditional life, and truly be happy as a NOMAD. I hope to meet up with you both, one day.
40 years of nomad is something I defenetly need to read have .randy is a very interesting person his life is soo rich of adventures and freedom . lot to learn from.
I love that he uses the word "fascinations" instead of "passions". It seems so much more appropriate and accessible.
Good point. These videos are my new "fascination."
I could listen to Randy read the ingredients from a box of Corn Flakes. I love his inflections.
Thanks, Bob and Randy!
Me too!
CheapRVliving oh your welcome! I am kind of obsessed with this lifestyle.

Same guy.

Love this guy, he's had such a fascinating life, so open, honest, and love hearing his stories
Yeah me too he's great!!

We need more people like Bob and Randy both of you and this world. 🙏❤❤
Randy is my biggest hero of Vandwelling. Thanks for recording and sharing this Bob!
It truly is my pleasure!
Love this - two Legends together in this video and still living legendary lives. I remember the original.Happy and safe trails to you both and crvl crew. 🙏🏼🐾🎶
Video was from 7 years ago. Where are you now Randy. Would love to know , you are a fascinating fella.
When you have personally embraced peace, you exude a calm demeanor.
Love his gentle spirit! Word of advise from a woman: be yourself and don't change to fit. the needs and expectations of someone else. Thanks for being real!
Makes me happy to know that there are such good people in the world like yourself and randy. Keep letting your light shine!
Than you so much!

I would too!!!
This guy (Randy) seems like a real gregarious, fun guy to hang around with....someone who has learned how to enjoy his life with his easy going attitude....sometimes the person being interviewed is more interesting than anything learned from seeing the rig.
You can watch my interview with him here: ua-cam.com/video/UjTGF4jPdCY/v-deo.html
Randy is a wonderful man. He would make a great John Wayne. Love this man.
Randy must be a great guy to sit around and talk to. He is one of those very interesting people who never uses the word can't. Young people could learn a lot from him.
You are so right!
And hide bound old folks, too!
Randy is a Nomadic Gem.
He sure is!
Absolutely love Randy's wit and positive attitude! He is my favorite of all your interviews. Always love to see you two together, such passion and knowledge about life between you both. Hope to meet you both before long.
Thanks, you are very kind!
Randy is always fun, such a character!
Yeah, his trailer is big enough! :)
Do you ever get down south? Does Randy?
Clint - they are both down south most of the time. They spend a lot of time in Arizona.
Randy's initials: RV. Fits right in!
Mind blown
Clever
Bob.. dear sur you saved me 6 yrs ago... ty so much

Freedom is everything, Free equals happiness. Been RVing for nine years and would not change a thing. Thanks for sharing :-)

We know that ith our heads... our hearts are a different matter!

vagabond88817 Very good! maybe he'll put your poem in his next book!
Christine Sutton lol, Thank you
I am hitting the road. I would love it if I met someone like Randy someday as a life partner. At least what we see of him in the public eye.
I love Randy's "wrap up" philosophy: Discover you fascinations, wake up your creativity, and then share yourself. Thanks again Bob...and Randy!
yes! 🌲🤍👣
I think he made his money by buying, redoing and selling his residences a few times. Made 100-150 K on that and has lived mobile on that money ever since. See his earlier interview with Bob.
You got it, see the interview here: ua-cam.com/video/UjTGF4jPdCY/v-deo.html
My dad always told me "Can't never did a damn thing" that was the most valuable advice I've ever heard.
WONDERFUL !
Wisdom and ways of the nomatic sages.....
Ode to the creatives and our unconventional ways......
I hope he has his cargo van these days ..I remember how fascinating and inspiring the early nomads videos were for us back then . Thank you so much ❤
I love it when you talk to Randy. He is always a positive note. It's good you didn't forget to mention his book like last time. Lol. Can't wait to meet you two some day.

I've "engineered" two cargo trailers in my day, an 8x10, and an 8x12. The V-nose makes a perfect kitchen counter with the sink in the center.
Bob this is such a great interview with Mr Randy ...Randy your an inspiration to us all.. and so are you Bob... Thanks for sharing..
He Randy. I am right here in Calgary...ready to go...come see what I should leave behind...I am so ready...I know my off grid was the best life ever...I hear it in your voice! I need a hug now...
Hi Bob, do a followup on Randy.
Randy seems like a cool guy to hang with! God knows he’s the most experienced nomad out there. I would love to hear his stories of his years of living the free life! Be safe Randy!👍
He is reminiscent of Chief Gillespie from In the Heat of the Night. Looks, demeanor, talk. Great interview.
I got his book after the last video you did with Randy. Amazing book. He is another person I would love to meet one day. I've had your book for about two years now, also a great book. I hope you have a wonderful RTR. Stay safe my friends, but most of all. "Stay happy!"
Thanks Mike! We're doing just that!
Randy seems to be a very sweet man.
My wife and I will be 62 in 5 yrs and we cant wait to go travel on the cheap .

The tech, stats, practical info you share is great, but the philosophy is invaluable.

Randy is the nomad guru.
Thanks Bob & Randy !! Grrat Interview !
Only very recently come across these guys and Randy and I cant get enough right now. Can you imagine Randys stories of biking Mexico and around? This way of life is calling
bob another good one with randy 40yrs on the road fascinating and educational thank you.what a guy.
Yes, what a guy!! Truly, one-of-a-kind!
Al, see more of Randy here: ua-cam.com/video/UjTGF4jPdCY/v-deo.html
I, too could listen to Randy chat all day. What life experiences that man has had!. He seems lovely and helpful just like Bob xxx
Me too Bob!
That was a smart man!
What a fascinating man. I know he has a book of poems but would love for him to write a book about his many adventures.
Randy truly has the good life! No traps for him. Thanks Bob for bringing us all these people who've found their happiness.
It's my pleasure!
"no traps"-- I read a comment somewhere that said, Three traps waiting for us in life: debt, weight, and clutter.
"get free of drudgery and discover what fascinates you"... Thank you Randy.
"Is that how you came to live in trailer?"
I had to pause the video to give it a thumbs up after that delightful laughter.
Love to listen to Randy and Bob in their talks.... thank you guys!
I lived like this before ... I miss it .
I know first-hand how freedom makes me feel , and it's good !
Thank you.
Randy is an interesting man. Seems like a sweet man. Glad he is happy with his life.
❤love Randy’s attitude, a free spirit he is indeed ❤
Randy reminds me of one my dear friends, just seems very laid back and down to earth…..I really enjoyed listening in…..best of luck.
Did Randy find his fine lady to share his life? Wise man like you Bob.
That rain sound is so relaxing.I see myself living like this.Even with health issues I can live fine.as long as I can stand and cook and stretch I can make my own shower and a 4000 watt generator.its a lot of power but I can sell some electricity to my neighbors.or help out
Bob, you have a very pleasant interview style and I always like it when you have a chance to speak with Randy.
Thanks!
It was a great interview. I will look on Amazon for your book of poems. 😊
you and Randy are the two best guys in the nomadic community!
I love this man! Randy seems so genuine and down to earth with a big heart. Thank you for sharing him with us. ♡
Me too, he is all of those things!
Randy is a real gem. Thanks Bob. Another great video.
Thank you Darrin, yes he is!
My camp is always open to you!
King of the Road!
Thanks Jeanette!
Randy reminds me of a grown up version of the Jack Nicholson character in Easy Rider. Bob reminds me a bit of Grizzly Adams.
I could watch you Randy all day 😊 you certainly are an inspiration. I'm a young golden girl who just bought me a starter live in motorhome for cheap and it's cozy. I love the coziness of it...And... love the feeling of FREEDOM .. From the checkbreakin financial burden
Would love to hear more of Your adventures...
Thank you Chuck!
Go Randy! Love his poems.
Two amazing people. You all are changing the way I think and hopefully the way I live my life.
Interesting. First, you have to escape drudgery. Second, find what fascinates you. Thirdly, go explore those things. I like it. I might just do it.
I had no idea 🤷♀️ people have been doing van life, cargo, an truck campers for such a long time. I’ve learned so much from your videos. Thank you 🙏🏼
Thanks Bob and Randy!
Could watch this guy all day long!...I hope once I've traveled for years I can be as humble as he is.
I think Randy was supposed to be a famous Country Western singer, living on his big tour bus. He has a very melodic voice.
Yes indeed!
