As a North American I’m avoiding visiting China as a tourist. I rather visit Taiwan and spend my tourist dollars there.

You dont have to embolden your claims. Enough of china is going the wrong way, but when you show a video of the fountain not on (okay) but then there are 25 cars parked in front of the hotel and you say it looks abandoned just doesn't fit. You dont need to change the facts to fit the narrative you are trying to tell. You can do better.
I would assume the major problem is... no major foreign companies, no visiting staff with big expense accounts.....
