Nice to see some love given to Android Auto and Android et al. In the US, Android is so often given second billing to Apple it's sometimes easy to forget that almost half of cellphone users use Android phones, worldwide it's much greater. It's a platform not limited to just one brand or a few models which opens up to consumers much more variety, designs, features, and price points. We love it!
@@R.O.T.C._SEEM Works very well for us. We too have flagship Android phones, although now both 4 years old, and Android Auto has worked very well. Yes, we did have some disconnects, but after buying better quality cables we haven't had any more issues there.
00:20 Ha ha, funny Alex. As of the end of 2021 there were twice as many Android users as there were Apple, worldwide. Apparently not everyone agrees with your position. But I personally agree with your decision to bring Brian onboard. He's doing a great job.
Thank you Brian for showing us the love! I constantly use Android Auto (Pixel 6 Pro) every time I am in my car and I'm glad to see an in-depth review of this feature. Any chance you could give us a similar review of the entertainment system in Volvos & Polestars?
Would love to know how? I have latest update on my 23 Elantra and my 22 Tucson. Neither will go full screen... Fills top top bottom but not side to side. :(
Even earlier it may be that you have to download and install the android auto app on your phone. Mine did not come with it. This is a very useful sort of thing to cover. Lots of people go 7-8 years in a car now and many have not seen/used android auto or apple car play, myself included. I am about to start car shopping for the first time in years.
HOLY CRAP ! That was cool !😂 Being 49 I don't like getting all high techie especially driving of course !... But that looked easy and very manageable ! 😁
When I am driving and using Google Maps to get to a destination, after a few minutes, the screen changes away from the map, and to audio stations on my 2021 Toyota. To get the map back I have to press the Maps button. Is there a way to set it so that it stays on Maps until I decide to look at the audio? Thanks
Thanks Brian! I have no exposure to Android Auto and this is completely different than I thought. I mistakenly assume Android Auto is like a mirror of the phone on the head unit screen. Silly me!
I think that's what I thought of either of the two integrated systems. After using Android Auto now for 4 years I find its ever improving integration as a real boon to being in the car and remaining connected and using some of the apps to improve the drive. They provide GPS guidance even when the vehicle you're driving isn't so equipped. They provide handsfree use of phone and messaging functions all by voice and voice to text capabilities.
Android Auto got 100% better when they finally adopted the "safety break" for screen touches universally. The old "hard stop" after 6 touches was awful. Google Assistant has gotten better over time. I didn't know MS Teams was a compatible app...
I used this feature with my 21 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk and it suddenly stopped working. I tried 3 different cords, and reinstalled the app twice... still not working. Do you have any troubleshooting ideas?
So me and my wife just bought a JVC stereo for our truck that has Android auto on it but we haven't had it installed yet. My question is will the layout in functions be the same or similar to what you were just talking about?
I recently bought a car that has Carplay and Android auto functionality. I have an iphone and my sister has a Galaxy phone. After using and loving Apple Carplay for a few weeks I decided to hook my sister's phone up to see how Android Auto looks and works. All I can say is "ugh." Carplay is a better experience in every way imo
Help! I've had my andriod auto for a couple of years. Now it will no longer let me use the voice command and says I need to allow personal results. I have not changed anything. Looks like everything is turned on in the phone. What can I do? Thanks so much
Thank you - this has been very helpful... and will likely view it multiple times. One thought - this is a lecture of sorts. Slow down the delivery - most people absorb spoken information at a rate roughly equal to the time required to take notes. Your delivery is about three times the absorption rate ... which is why I will have to do multiple repeats.
So, I did it with the cable and it worked fine, but not anymore when I disconnect the cable. This 2023 Jeep GC limited car. Why is that? By the way my phone was paired to my car.
Thanks! That answered so many questions I had. Our current car is too old for it to matter, but it will definitely be significant for whatever we buy next.
Bullied by Apple users, Alex? Is this the third grade playground or something? LOL. But I get your point. For so many out there it's a 'lifestyle' and an "ecosystem.' My first smartphone in 2011 was an Android. I stuck with it for no reason other than it worked. In early 2016 I bought my first vehicle that was equipped with Android Auto and Apple Carplay. My ex had an iphone. So we downloaded Carplay and decided to use both phones on a 4-hour road trip to San Antonio from Dallas. I wanted to see if there was anything that would make me switch. At least at that time, AA worked far better than Carplay so I stuck with it. I'm currently on an S22 Ultra and I still see no reason to switch other than for the sake of switching. It does more than I even know it can do or need, practically. The camera is fantastic. I use the S Pen constantly and it's great.
The Ultra is a great phone. As far as the camera goes its telephoto capabilities are a big departure for cellphones. That alone is where cellphones had always lost out to dedicated cameras.
Watched your video but the most basic thing was not clear. Can you use any app from your phone, or are you limited to a specific set of apps. Shouldn't that have been mentioned? I want to use a music app to play MP3s stored on my phone. Is that possible? So I didn't get everything I need to know.
it's not our fault as android users if Apple keeps stealing features from android such as widgets, we know it hard to accept , but sometimes truth hurts
Switching to the dark side I love it LOL I've never wanted to go to Apple stuff and everyone thinks it's the best but I just don't feel that way for some reason.
Uconnect had a CD player and a hard drive. I know it doesn't have a CD player anymore but how could you upload your music library? I would like to be able to search on the screen the way Uconnect used to.
I just picked up my 2023 ACURA MDX with tech package and I am having a problem using Android Auto. Worked on the 2020 MDX I traded in but this car has a touch pad and I can't access much of the screen. Any place to get help? Thanks
Question as to Android Auto Wireless equipment - I have a new radio head unit (aftermarket) in an older car - have Android Auto within the unit and installed on my SamSung S14 -- do I need wireless interface equipment to talk to radio as to not connect hard cable based on al existing software? Description of wireless equipment doesn't offer enough information to go directly - since they want you to purchase their wireless adapter. Hello. I have an Opel Crossland 19' and used to be able to connect my phone device to Android auto using a USB cable. However since 2021 somehow I stopped being able to connect. I tried using different sorts of cables unsuccessfully. I also used another device to connect but didn't work either. Any ideas on what could be the problem? It seems like there's a software issue with the car's app.
Curious to know how wireless Android Auto and Carplay enabled systems handle multiple paired phones. If me and my partner both use the same car and have our phones paired to the car and both of us get in the car, can I choose or swap between the 2 phones? What if both phones are the same kind or one is android and the other an iPhone?
Great question as that's our situation much of the time when driving together. On our Hondas usually the driver unlocking the car takes priority. There are times when the system will see both paired phones and asked which to pair to for operation. Or, previous pairing was with my wife's phone, I connect via USB and the system will ask which to connect with. A simple touch of the screen settles that and we're good to go.

I was given a route map for a car rally. I have android auto. While I am on the road, I want to access that map that outlines the route of the car rally without the benefit of the internet, however. But my question is, with those custom in dash Nav systems, such as Kenwood or whatever else that has android auto, will it work with my steering wheel hotkeys? i cant say i agree with iPhone being better. I'm a tech that has had many users for iPhone forget their password and had to purchase a new phone. everyone has pros and cons so id rather stick to android since it customizable and password resetting is easy

To clarify, this absolutely does not point out the specific AA 8.1 features, it is simply a general Android Auto run through.
You got me to click and watch half the video before frustratingly leaving this comment though, so kudos on the misdirect!
