These inexpensive European cars from the 60s and 70s are my all time favorites. I'm from the United States, but where I grew up these were more suited to our narrow, curvy roads in New England. Yes, I did have one it was so much fun! I love Fiats, and it was perfectly reliable as well.
I had a '73 almost identical to this car - even the color. Just loved driving it. The biggest downfall...rust. The second biggest downfall...in very cold weather the carb. would freeze up and you were done. I had to put cardboard in the grill to try to keep the cold out of the engine compartment. Great 3 season car though!

I went to the dealer and discovered he didn’t know much about sports cars; the car was actually a Spider not a Coupe. I test drove it anyway, decided as a bachelor with no family, I didn’t need much room, so I bought it. Far from the fastest car I have ever owned, but absolutely the most charming!
My grandad's favourite car ever owned, and he owned a few... He bought it (series II) in 1970, upgraded it (or was standard I can't recall) with double Weber carburettors. He bought it specifically because for over a year he had a daily 500 mile drive to work and needed a fast, reliable and affordable car. He was a custom's solicitor and about 6 months after he bought it, the dealer asked him to help them with importing a Fiat 131 Dino (blue) for the purpose of exhibiting it in a motor show in Thessaloniki, and as an incentive, besides the fee he was offered a considerable discount on the car that brought the price down to double what he had paid for the 124 Coupe. It was originally a little less than three times the price. He didn't go for it and he always wondered but never regretted keeping the 124... He always said it was the most secure he ever felt in a car, very friendly to learn and get 80-90% out of it, never had a serious fault or damage. Fitted a family of four comfortably. Subjectively, the most classy looking sporty Italian coupe of the 70's.

This was confirmed by the CHP officer how said he was doing 125mph and I was leaving him behind. i was doing about 140mph. The fastest I ever went was 170mph while racing a Porsche. The dealer said it was a Super Sport Coupe. Didn't realize it was special until years after i gave it to a friend. I'm still wondering what the deal was. Was it a Omologated car?
I have owned my ‘69 AC 124 sport for 43 years and having driven all 3 variants of the 124 coupe from my perspective the AC is the one to have. All versions today are rarer than their competition, eg Alfa Romeo’s 105 series GT/GTV and even the Lancia Fulvia coupe. Having owned also a 1750 GTV S1 for 12 years and having driven a fulvia coupe, from my experience the Fiat is just as good as them, though seriously under valued.

I had three of them,still have a spider today,known as the Lost Classic of Turin.Very few remain today...uses the same drivetrain as the spider.

i have the 1969 ac 124 1.4, 5 speed ,which is a great car but needs the 1.8 engine which i have and hope to fit some day after rebuild .
