It's the one lots of you have been asking for! Brains is getting ready to tell you all about Thunderbird 2...
I love Thunderbird 2, She is my favourite of the Thunderbirds. Please can you do Stingray next?
@@robstoppablecosplayit's in the edit suite at the moment, won't be immediately next, but the end credits of this episode may give you a clue when to expect it ;)
That’s awesome thanks if I may make a suggestion beside thunderbirds 3-5 could you also do thunderbird 6?
@@jamieallen8613 TB6 might be tricky to stretch out to a full video as it's just a standard biplane.
I knew all about that already,
Why do I have a funny feeling I wasn't the only one who really liked Thunderbird 2 as a child.
And I found that I still do, when I started re-watching the tv series.
As a child, Thunderbird 2 was instantly my favourite along with Mole Capsule vehicle! ❤ And it still is!
lets all take a minute to honor the men who built these models for the series.
*Thunderbird 2 is the backbone of International Rescue*
Thunderbird 2, my ALL TIME favorite of the Thunderbirds! It is extremely versatile, powerful, and one of the absolute coolest vehicles ever created! Always loved watching her get launched! The main thrusters have to have the power of the space shuttle boosters, which is impressive to say the least! But it’s no mistake this vehicle is the heart and soul of International Rescue!
My favorite too, parents gave me this model as a kid as well as thunderbird 1
Me too
Ahh, David Graham's a true champ. I love hearing him work.
After over 40 years, this Thunderbird is still my favourite. Just as beautiful now(age 49) as when I first saw it(age 7).
I have vivid memories of watching Thunderbirds for the first time at the age of 8 and being fascinated by it!
I was so excited when Thunderbird 2 would slowly rise up on it's four legs, revealing the pod. I loved seeing what uniquely designed rescue vehicle it would carry this time!
Thunderbirds was already decades old when I first wanted to pilot this craft
at 32, I still do! The amount of Toys of this ONE ship I had was just nuts!
Appreciate the briefing, Brain. I still have fond memories of the Hasbro toy of T-2 I had, decades ago. Good times, good times...
The sound of Thunderbird 2 is still enchanting.
Thunderbird 2 was always may favourite. I really miss that enormous toy that I had.
Ooooh - which toy was it?!
I still have mine both the 1972 and 74
My favourite too. Such a cool design.
I wasn't alive during the old siries so I got all the thunderbirds ftom the new, the designs are similar and I love em
I got 2 models of Thunderbird 2 plane.
Gotta love those VTOL thrusters on Thunderbird 2 !
What a wonderful design Derek Meddings came up with. Looks great from any angle, loads of dramatic potential and of course play interest in toy/ model version!
Thank you Derek. I have a TB2 model on my study desk and one at work too!
Great to hear! Yep - TB2 really is perfect!
My all time favourite Thunderbirds vehicle
Thunderbird 2 is my all time favorite , used to get goosebumps on a Saturday morning as a kid watching this thing coming out the hanger an rolling past the collapsing Palm trees , it was supposed to be the U.S Military looked at TB episodes for rescue situations , pity they never authorized building a T2 ..maybe they even kicked the idea about though .Great Vid .
In Macross 7 there's a shuttle based off of thunderbird 2. The lead designer worked on Thunderbird Shadow in the 2015 reboot.
My favourite of the Thunderbird fleet!
Me too.
An excellent choice!
Hell of a wing loading!
FAB! Brains, you are a good man
T2 was always my favorite.
FWIW: Í worked on Lockheed C-130 Hercules in both the US Navy and US Coast Guard. I love "Herky Birds", and I think that is at least partially due to my love of Thunderbird 2 from the show.
The C1-30 is the back bone of tge Australian Air force. It's one hell of a work horse and i love it.Take care.
The fantastic AC-130 is about to get a 60kW LASER gun!
@@ut4321 >>> So I have heard...👌
Thunderbird 2 is the one that literally does all the work. Without it, International Rescue wouldn’t be able to operate.
Thunderbird 2 was always the best :)
love the show as a kid. I remember a illustrated book way back about future military equipment. Hypersonic airlift, rocket troop transport etc.
The best sci-fi vehicle of all time flown by my first childhood hero in the best Tech Talk to date. Thanks guys!
Only 46 years to go!
Loving these clips, looking forward to many more
Certainly a few more to come!
Amazing work, guys. As always, an exemplary narration by Brains. I really appreciate the extra time taken to dive into all the fan favorites. F A B!
"Encoded Signal Channel TX-204..."
I get that...! Its a little injoke that I smiled at
Glad you approve!
These are really neat to watch. Brains is a good teacher and his approach makes it fun.
We'll pass on your compliments ;)
Gerry Anderson
FAB
Thunderbird 2 is the coolest!
Certainly is my favorite Thunderbird loved watching it regardless of the pod vehicle, didn't know some pods had rear doors, i love the T2 so much i also am modelling my own ones
Even though I'm just now getting to this the fact the tech talk for my favourite thunderbird craft was uploaded on my birthday is awesome XD
I know most Thunderbirds fans say it, but Thunderbird 2 is my favourite. I've always loved the sound effects of her engine when she's in flight.
Been looking forward to this. My favourite Thunderbird machine!
Mine too
this is Cool,Interesting & Helps Answer Questions I've had for a Long Time! Keep up the Superb Work!
Thunder bird 3 is my favorite craft.
Excellent work!
These series of videos are superb. Well done all involved! ;)
Thanks!
Another outstanding episode, congrats to all the team involved in producing these. Credit must also go to Derek Meddings for designing such great craft all those years ago. The idea of having interchangeable pods is hugely innovative and I don’t think there were/are many operational aircraft or helicopters with such capability. I wonder how much details was in Gerry’s original brief was to Derek for TB2?
Just by judging some of the vehicles in the end credits, I have a feeling Fireball XL5 and jr. would be next
Thunderbird two was the best she was the one that got the job done
This is amazing!
Thunderbird 2 and Virgil are always my favourite in Thunderbirds
Mine too
Brains, thank you for the tech talk regarding Thunderbird 2, my favorite Thunderbird. I know you have to be careful of what you tell us, we all strongly suspect there are many other hidden capabilities present in Thunderbird 2. But we all understand that you can only reveal what's appropriate! Thanks again.
Gerger gee Brains, thanks for errtelling us about Thether Thunderbird 2.
It was his absolute pleasure!
AMAZING !!!!
04:45 Man, that hangar bay is HUGE!!
T2 is gigantic, the hangar is enormus, and the island itself must be GIGANTIC
Most people's fav thunderbird, despite the fact that the show producers thought that would be thunderbird 1. It was, and still is my fav too.
Interesting, what's the source on that?
@@ACtheLegend An old poll they did when the show was still on, sadly I don't know the exact source but I think it was mentioned in the book on the making of the show
@@masterofthelag8414 ah fascinating, thanks for sharing!
TB2: MVP!
'Nuff said....
love this
mis favoritos de cuando era niño!!
I loved Thunderbird 2,got a dinky one from the seventies in authentic metallic blue.
My favourite of the tb models.
We can all agree that *Thunderbird 2* is the best because it actually rescues people, no offence to *Thunderbird 1.*
Bird2 is the , king of them all , from my.child -Hood,, bring it back bring it back ?
Cruises at 2000 mph? I would be expecting a tad of transonic buffet with that profile! 😁
I guess Mr Graham actually sounds quite spritely considering he's now 115 years old!
would be fun to hear David Graham voice Doctor Beaker!
This is by far one of my favourite series on UA-cam. And we're only 9n episode 2
Episode 3 in fact... does that mean you missed the SPV or TB1?
@@GerryAndersonTV SPV does not sound familiar, though I wouldn't be surprised if my mind just put 2 in becuase Thunderbird 2.
Edit : Just watched it, statement reaffirmed.
If I went down that slide into TB2 I know something would go wrong. I'd get twisted up in the turn table or slide into the cockpit so fast i'd bounce off the bottom go straight over the console and out the front window.
Thunderbird 2 will be a great freight plane for airlines that transport freight by air.
0:30 Virgil Tracy Thinks He Looks Like Indiana Jones AKA Han Solo From The Indiana Jones Trilogy And The Star Wars Trilogy. Thanks Mate. X
Nice video! I always assumed the order from oldest to youngest brother was Scott, John, Virgil, Gordon, Alan because of the order they are shown in both the original and revival series
That's just a visual choice, doesn't indicate the order :)
Andrew C Ohh I see, my whole childhood has been a lie ;) thanks for the confirmation
The pods mysteriously spread apart before TB2 lowers over one - they're too close together initially.
Thunderbird 2 From Gerry Anderson's Thunderbirds The Original Series In 1965 Is A Bit Like Millennium Falcon From Star Wars The Force Awakens And Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope. Thanks Mate. X
Thunderbird 2 plane is my favorite airplane in the Thunderbirds.
I understand that because TB2 has VTOL that is could be under a similar classification as a helicopter. So was the design of Virgil piloting in the middle a choice because early helicopter designs had a singular seat meaning they also sat in the middle?
Fandersons rule!
I had a Thunderbird 2 as a child in ‘70s, it came with the little yellow Thunderbird 5.
Still does.
Thunderbird 4 not 5
@@BennyInc1973 You are of course correct, I must be getting old. 🤔
When are you going to do the Century 21 on Thunderbird 4 at 5 as well as Stingray?
They're all on the way soon!
It also has machine guns.
It also can hover in the air and stand still.
It has cables with hooks.
I had all the puppet series toys except for 5 (don't know if there is a 5th one)
Supercar next? the grandad of all the other cool vehicles to come?
This could be interesting as Supercar was set in the present day (at the time it was on the air), so it could have pioneered all the technology that came later in the 'Supermarionation' world. (No Supercar, no Helijet). Because it is a prototype, sometimes Mike Mercury and the gang need to be creative in using the car to solve some of their problems, and other times the drama in the series comes from the car itself; can it be pushed to it's limits to save the day?
I don't know when it is in line, but when that episode comes, it will be Satisfactory. Most Satisfactory.
No Supercar this time, it was written, but not recorded due to time constraints. Perhaps if folks like this series enough we can record it for a second run of episodes.
Ah, yes. Scott overlooking the situation while Virgil does all the work of the actual rescue. Never seemed like an equitable arrangement to me.

As aerodynamic as a rock.
Wait a minute! The RN got the idea for the ramp for the Sea Harriers for the previous carriers. From Thunderbirds.
I always thought it was odd how the size of the number 2 varied next to the word "Thunderbird".
Never noticed as a kid but the VTOL thrusters somehow turn into the lifting arms between shots? If you look at the bottom of TB 2 though there are 4 red outlets 2 front and 2 back which were always labelled in the drawings as the VTOL system. Wonder why they never had the thursts coming from there when they filmed?
In universe reason: The rockets swivel to replace the strut gear when in use, while the 4 red thrusters function like normal VTOL jets in that their thrust is invisible (i.e. jets rather than rockets)
Real world: easier to get the electrical current down the wires to the pyros at those locations rather than the more centralised holes.
Will
We see a Tech Talk on the SkyDiver Submarines from UFO?
Sir, Are you the Gerry Anderson, who decades ago came up with so many Supermarionation series, such as " Super Car, Joe90, Captain Scarlet and the Mystrians, Fireball XL5, The Thunderbirds, UFO, and Space1999??
Gerry Anderson died in 2012, but this is the official channel run by Anderson Entertainment :)
Virgil is the 2 oldest kid from the rest of his brothers and he doing a lot of race in his life just like Scott
Brilliant video. Didn't realise T2 had quite the array of weapons, extras etc. One thing I wonder about is even though T2 is aerodynamically shaped due to the pods it carries, when the pod is lowered or dropped (especially in the case of pod 4 carrying T4.) how is it able, aerodynamically to fly with such a large gap in the fuselage?
The four red VTOL jets help with stability (unlike the four main rocket thrusters that are situated within the landing leg ports and fire powerful fire streams, the VTOL jets operate like a normal VTOL jet and do not produce flames).
@@ACtheLegend thanks. That helps genuinely nicely meant. 👍
@@arguspanoptes9510 glad to help! One imagines it also has computer assisted stability control like present day fighters.
@@ACtheLegend that would be the case probably because of the show being set in what was then 100 years in the future if I remember rightly
@@ACtheLegend I don't see how those legs, even when retracted and "un-telescoped?" would fit inside the two side intakes - for one, it would block the intakes to the rockets, and for another there just isn't enough vertical space unless they stick out the top when retracted. Still, though, it Is science fiction, and if ever I got a chance to see the actual show I doubt it would bother me.
Yes that's all well and good, but what is the main propulsion system and fuel type!
Some things have to remain top secret, you never know when one of the Hood's agents may be watching.
Thunderbird 2 is the rescue big green behemoth
The historic rocket of jeff tracy is better known as TV-21 and was the prototype of thunderbird 1.
Only in the new series, never in the original :)
I don't remember seeing rear flaps on a pod, or pod 1 ever being deployed. Feel free to point out these episodes please.
Rear flap on Pod 6 in The Perils of Penelope, Pod 1 deployed in Move And Youre Dead and Security Hazard.
@@ACtheLegend Thanks, I recall Pod 1 now that my memory has been refreshed, but I'm going to have to rewatch Perils of Penelope for that rear pod door.
Thunderbird 2 is my most favorite one.I never change him with another one.And of course,I like other Thunderbirds too.But Thunderbird 2 and Virgil are my favorite.I must say it too:My favorite, favorite, favorite cartoon is "Thunderbirds are go" and I am a girl.😀😀😀
Now... I thought it was Thunderbird canon that John was the second eldest brother while Virgil was the third; however I realise this may be a contentious issue!
Confirmed onscreen in Thunderbirds Are Go that John is 3rd eldest :)

Anybody know how Pod4 was recovered? one of lifes many mysteries
Watch the Thunderbird 4 tech talk for the answer
Here’s my question, how does TB2 get pod 4 out of the water when the mission is complete
To be revealed in a few weeks ;)
Well, you can geek out with this description of how TB4 gets back into the pod. thunderbirds.fandom.com/wiki/Thunderbird_4/Launch_Sequence
"When the rescue is over, the ramp-rail is further extended into the water beyond the pod door, whereupon TB4 maneuvers to face forward just above it. Lowering itself on to the rail, TB4 is then clamped in position and the rail retracts onto the ramp and back inside Pod 4."
The assumption is, next, TB2 lowers clamps and retracts the pod into the body.
SO happy so many people love this show!
Oh Dinky Toys, where art thou?
Seriously, how are those palm trees so freaking giant lmao
Some palm trees can grow 90-100 feet tall.
So that’s how they pick up pod 4
I have a blue Thunderbird 2 came like that not sure why
Legend has it that DINKY managers told Gerry their research indicated "Kids don't buy green toys"
@@ACtheLegend wow I always wondered why it was a turquoise blue I thought it was a knock off dinky
Thunderbird 2
I thought John was second eldest of the Tracy Brothers.. And Virgil the 3rd eldest.
Its a common misconception, but the age order was defined in the original production notes and later in the Thunderbirds Are Go film as SVJGA.
One thing here.. Wing span! The wing span on Thunderbird 2 is he said 250 feet. That is not right? Because the wing span is the wing width not counting the craft width... by including the craft width your not being correct. You must just state the wings own width without including the craft to be correct. Picky point I know? But wing width should be stated on is own.
In the future they change how the measurement is defined :)
Yeah! Keep up lad! 😂😂
'Developed from the top secret project code-named 'Beer Mug'? 'Beerma'? 'BMR'? Didn't catch that, sorry!

@@ACtheLegend Cheers. One for that adults that one.
