A rural woman is also captured painting a white pig black.
Why this peculiar trend? The rationale is simple: in China, black pork is significantly pricier than its white counterpart, and black piglets command a higher price as well. Some farmers, driven by profit motives, are resorting to using hair dye to paint white pigs black for sale.

2005. I was in top notch hotel in China. We ordered some decent French wine and the manager delivered it himself. After uncorking, the wine turned out to he fake and foul. It became complete vinegar. The manager was the one who did the uncorking but he failed to see why we would not want to pay for it. He argued and the scene became really heated. In the end, they charged it on our room without our signatures and obviously without apologies. That taught me what to expect going forward.
In 2020, we drove from Atlanta to New York to pick up a case of specialty Pinot Noir from New Zealand. Upon opening the first bottle, we discovered that the wine was bad and turned to vinegar. The wine store was mortified and immediately refunded the case with no questions asked. They asked us to throw the remaining bottles away. Different cultures, apparently.

The worst thing I saw was a docu about the people who open the manholes for the sewers and collect the oil and fats floating on the surface. They then filtered it to get the solid parts out and bottled it for resale. I heard years ago that in China it's not just accepted, but expected to try to cheat your customer; if the fraud isn't caught it's the customer's fault. *Not* trying to cheat your customer is considered poor business practice. While it's possible to get good products from factories there you need to be extremely vigilant about every step of the process and then pretty much count on your product getting copied and resold with the copycat names as shown here. Their reputation for garbage ripoff products is very well earned.

Dont eat at any Chinese restaurants in the US as well. We found out a Chinese restaurant in Beaumont, Texas, was taking uneaten food from someone's plate and giving it to another customer.

Some might bicker that it makes us less competitive outside of Europe but honestly the people who actually care about quality will rather pay extra to receive a genuine product instead of a fake. Here in NZ, we had a far superior pizza chain called Beagle Boys. Pizza Hut had the monopoly for years and we're VERY expensive. Then BB came along and the competition made them lower their cost considerably. Pizza Hut bought them out and closed or rebranded all the shops :(
