Man, this are some great advices. People pay A LOT a money for this kind of knowledge and this man are givin it for free. Thanks a lot, hi from Argentina!
Jason, you are the Boss!!! In 12 minutes you taught me how to use the EQ in DaVinci Resolve, which no other UA-cam video has been able to do for me. If a neophyte/rookie like me can learn EQ from you... I bet ANYONE can! God bless you!
Wow! My recordings have always had this subtle background noise that I wasn't able to filter out, using your tutorial I finally managed to make my audio sound good!
Awesome, that's great! Glad the video helped! Love some good audio. YOu might also want to look at using a gate if you've got background noise. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for posting this! Audio novice here, starting in Resolve. Finally -- a tutorial that didn't overwhelm or drown me, but got me off to a good start.
Awesome, you're welcome! It's a lot to take in when getting started in Resolve. I try to keep all my tutorials simple and straight forward. It is a steep learning curve, but keep at it and it will all click. Thanks for watching!
Followed this video while editing my sound (for the first time ever) and the difference was incredible. Thank you for an easy to follow step by step that is most effective!
Sweet! Good audio makes all the difference! Happy I could help you out. Thank you for checking out the video and sharing your feedback. Best of luck with your project! 😁🎙👍🎚
Your mics are good enough that in htis video I didn't notice great difference . But when I applied this on my Own audio ... Man was it way better . Thanks a lot man
Hey Jason, I just watched your tutorial on Davinci Resolve and it was really well done! (sorry, the comments wouldn't load on that page for some reason?). Just wanted to share how much I appreciate your videos. I watched 3 other "tutorials" before yours that were, well, not very helpful at all! WAY too fast, and didn't provide any examples (I loved how you took your basketball example and then continued building on that video - very helpful!). You provided exactly what I was looking for! I then needed a video to learn how to insert a recorded music track to my video and BAM!, sure enough you bring the goods once again! Thanks Jason!!!
This is so helpful! Now I know what to practice a bit more. Great instruction and production value as usual. I can hear the difference in my tracks already!
Your insights are very much appreciated! I'm a beginner hobbiest editor and your examples were very helpful because it was easy to follow along and attempt the same adjustments on my own audio clips. Liked. Subscribed. Will be watching more!
Hi Jason, thank you very much for the vid. I am just starting improving audio in my work and this will help a lot. Will be watching the rest of your videos. Big hi from Australia!
You’re welcome! Thank you for stopping in, checking out the video and leaving a comment! Best of luck with your audio and if you ever have any questions feel free to reach out to me and ask. 👍😁
You're welcome! Thanks for checking out the video! I should do this again with a bad sounding mic. The Yeti is really good out of the box, but a 'bad' mic would make the changes much more noticeable. Best of luck with your audio!
You solved one of my major problems - cheers man - keep making such videos and really really THANK YOU for solving the problem I have been facing since almost 3 months - you made it easy and VERY EASY to understand what is happening and how to solve something and most importantly - why to do that solution (Most people just throw in the solution without explaining why those steps are being taken).
Great tutorial. I just picked up the RODE NTG5 and it's known for its warmer, bass sound. And with your tutorial I was able to balance out the audio to where I liked it without affecting the quality of the audio. I notice that you do a lot of DaVinci Resolve tutorials, and Resolve is my main app for film making, so I subscribed. Cheers.
Jason, so well presented! Clear, concise and easy to follow. This is by far THE best one I have found on how to easily use the EQ in Davinci. THANK YOU for doing this to help others. SUB'd too 👍

@@JasonYadlovski Thank you for fast reply. :) I suppose our audio guys minds simply associate audio range in a specific way: the not-k range and the k-range (because in practice we don't say 1500 Hz or 8000 Hz, we say shortly: 1,5kHz, 8kHz), hence it's very easy to make a tongue slip. @@JasonYadlovski Thanks! This was a one time free lesson for a greater good (this guy interviews people, many of whom share helpful knowledge there), however who knows - maybe I've just started. :) I don't say "Hz" either. Only "eight kay" etc. I have my own practical names too: 120-125 Hz is "practical (upper) limit of a bass speaker cabinet" (on stage I set them around 95 Hz and 120 was only for certain speakers and program), 5 kHz is "guitar string after-whizz", 33 Hz is "the fat warmth that also may cook the speakers", 1kHz is of course "the (vocal) presence". Around 2-2,5k is "the bonus presence for women with nice, wide lips who open their mouth fully when talking (AKA proper diction)". I think the last one may be boosted for these women who mumble with their mouth half-shut. During the said lesson I've taught that guy what to do with peaks of "group, humorous excitement" during interviews (when people suddenly talk together and/or laugh): select that fragment, determine the compression rate and threshold and test it until it's good. When it's good? When the spiked hair peak is combed down enough for overall normalization but the people and their excitement doesn't sound robotic, artificial, only it's keeping its natural sound: like real humans having a good moment but not like a suddenly loudly cheering soccer crowd in a beer pub. :) In practice it means 8:1 fast attack with threshold where the ceiling of the regular speech preceding the peak sits (or 1 - 1.5 dB over that ceiling - testing "how it feels" is mandatory). Audio normalization doesn't actually change the dynamics of the audio track since it applies the same amount of gain to the whole track. What it does is that it just makes the audio louder so that the max peak is at 0db or other setting of your choosing. :)
Olivier Lévêque-Samoisette that’s awesome! Happy I was able to help you get rid of the fridge sound! 😁👍. Thank you for the like and sub, much appreciated!
You Got it! I love me some good audio. I use these same tips for mixing live music. It works and will make your audio sound great. Thank you for watching!
@@JasonYadlovski Would you do a tutorial on how to make dialogue clear if you have isolated version dialogue. Because with isolated version you lose some of the frequncies and I would like to know few ways I could bring those back. Isolated versions sound like tin can or such, that's why I really wanna see a video on this topic, if possible of course. :)
@@JasonYadlovski You could render your dialogue and music together and just open the program that has ability to remove music in some way and use that as an example for tutorial. :)
stupid question: I dont have the EQ there there is only a diagonal dynamics line edit: nvm you can just scroll down there (didnt look like it lmao) damn it worked really incredibly well, I had a recording of an engine sound which I wanted to use for a game but there was this annoying high pitched sound, this way I was able to just filter it out, thank you!
Awesome and you’re welcome! Doing some EQ work on your audio will definitely take it to the next level. Best of luck on your project! Thank you for checking out the video and leaving a comment, I appreciate it!
@@JasonYadlovski thanks again. I would love if you could check out some of my videos and let me know if there's any other tip to improve them, both audio and video. Even if you can't, I understand 😉
You're welcome! I do have some videos about that, here's a playlist with some: ua-cam.com/play/PLsOqsM0-aW4G2tqjrhuNITOl0mSaLgHCh.html I think I may have more mixed in the channel as well.
@@JasonYadlovski Definitely subscribing to your channel, found LOADS of good tips! Very good quality and content videos and most important, you go straight to the point and explain whitout hesitation which gives us a sense that you know what you're doing! :) So, thank YOU!
when you normalize it just applies a gain to the whole audio clip until the peak reaches the input value. it doesn't bring the peaks down or whatever is low up.
@@JasonYadlovski No problem. If you noticed, it changes the volume "line" on the clip, it set it a little bit higher, a thing you can manually do with the mouse by dragging, like you would normally do when you want a part louder or quieter. It's all it does :)
How do you know where the bad spots are? I agree that the spots you picked sound worse and it was good to bring them down but I don't know how I would identify the bad frequencies on my own. What specifically should I listen for?
Hi! So you want to listen for anything that sounds harsh. You’ll know it when you hit it because it will just sound harsh, bad, muffled, a high-pitched ear pierced noise, etc. generally if you look in the 1000 to 2000 range you’ll find some harsh sounds and you will find some muffled sounds around the 400 to 600 range.
Jason Yadlovski thank you so much! That makes a lot more sense to me now. Everything else in the video was great too, I can’t wait to try this with my next video!
Hey Jason, what about e.g. the SM7B where you want to cut a lot of bass frequencies, but need to boost the highs. Can you boost the highs with this eq?
Make your audio sound more professional! Check out my DaVinci Resolve Audio Crash Course! ua-cam.com/video/3abjyA8mHGc/v-deo.html
To boost the bass, just go into the EQ and boost the bass frequencies. That would be anything below 250 Hz. Too much can make it sound muddy.
Thank God I can understand english tutorials. I'm Brazilian and couldn't find one single video in portuguese with that level of quality. Thanks a lot

Thanks! 👍👍. I’ve got an updated version on it too. ua-cam.com/video/5Rs1XRQSlAM/v-deo.html Thanks for watching!
@@JasonYadlovski was actually watching that one when you replied 😅. It’s helping so much to demystify EQ
I love the video so much! Thank you for giving tips and explaining every little detail on it.
I’d be happy to make a video about it at some point but I don’t have any clips like that. Would you happen to have any samples?
@@JasonYadlovski You could render your dialogue and music together and just open the program that has ability to remove music in some way and use that as an example for tutorial. :)
This helped most of my vocals sound much better! Thanks!
That’s great! Thanks for checking out the video!
OMG THANK YOU I NEEDED THIS

You’re welcome! Thank you for checking out the video! 👍😁
stupid question: I dont have the EQ there there is only a diagonal dynamics line
edit: nvm you can just scroll down there (didnt look like it lmao)
damn it worked really incredibly well, I had a recording of an engine sound which I wanted to use for a game but there was this annoying high pitched sound, this way I was able to just filter it out, thank you!
Never a stupid question, everything is valid. Glad you found it. 👍
Nice!! Easily understood. Thanks :)

You’re welcome! Thank you for watching! 👍😁
when you normalize it just applies a gain to the whole audio clip until the peak reaches the input value. it doesn't bring the peaks down or whatever is low up.
Thanks for the clarification. I misspoke when I made the video. Thanks for checking out the video!
@@JasonYadlovski No problem. If you noticed, it changes the volume "line" on the clip, it set it a little bit higher, a thing you can manually do with the mouse by dragging, like you would normally do when you want a part louder or quieter. It's all it does :)
2nd time I've watched this video. Thanks for the tips!
You’re welcome! Happy to hear the video is helpful. 😁👍 thank you for checking it out the second time! 🙌

Awesome! Glad you found the video helpful! Thanks for watching!
You’re welcome! Happy to help. 😁👍

Hey Jason, what about e.g. the SM7B where you want to cut a lot of bass frequencies, but need to boost the highs. Can you boost the highs with this eq?
Yes, the EQ is the tool for the job. A slight boos in the 4k-8k range will help increase the clarity and highs.
Really helpful video! Thanks bro!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Very helpful thanks, will try this to improve audio on wedding video I'm editing! :)
