    Thinking about dropping the cash for the 106" kit for my newly purchased 96ci street glide. A little nervous about doing the work, but I think I can manage it. An install video would be amazing! This video did kind of push me towards biting the bullet on these, great job as always!

    Fixing the Harley twin cam can make you rich.
    Building up the twin cam engine will slip the pressed together junky crank then you'll have run out destroying the engine.
    The only fix for the TC is starting with a new (my opinion ) S&S crank . Changing the cam chain plate & tensioners to hydraulic is good but not the biggest problem, the crank is!
    The stock Harley compensator before 2014 can't handle big hp. Harley junk!

    I realize this is an older video, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience building a twin cam 88 to 103. I recently saw a video explaining that screamin eagle used an 88 block with a 4.4 something crank that made the 88 into a 103 stroker I’m wondering how would this work with a 98 big bore kit. Any help would be greatly appreciated

      NOPE. Increasing the bore WILL require machining the engine case so that the cylinder skirt will slide into the case.

      Don Doucette not always. depend on the kit. with the 96" harley the s&s 106" bolts right up. a believe anything after that tho you do have to drill cases.

      I suggest you read and compare kit instruction sheets which you can download from the S&S website. There's zero need for speculation. Installation isn't a secret.

      @@Doucettedon wrong, S&S has one of my favorite kits that I use regularly and it allows for a 4.000" bore with NO CASE MACHINING AND NO REBALANCING, it's a true bolt in. 100" is the result, stock 4.000" stroke to convert the 88" twin cam. The kit is available for the stock 96/103 to make these 110 inches, again with NO MACHINING. Piston compression heights are changed to compensate for the longer stroke. 95-97-98-100 inch twin cam 88 kits are all available with NO MACHINING, SARGE

    hello I have an 883 2015 and my dilemma is that I do not know if I buy the simple kit or the hooligan kit and it is to know if it makes more noises than the HD model engine or it is the opposite
    I'm interested in more power and a bit of extra cruise speed for the road if the engine is forced.
    I hope you can help me with these doubts and finally decide
    your videos help a lot excellent channel
    regards

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  5 років тому +1

      Deciding which kit to get really depends on your budget and how much tuning you want to do/pay for. The standard 883 to 1200 conversion kit will give you a big increase in power without much effort. The Hooligan kit is more expensive to buy and more expensive to install, since you're changing the cams too. As for noise, the conversions are louder than the stock 883 and on par with a stock 1200. If you have an aftermarket exhaust, it will be louder still. For most people, the standard conversion and a fuel tuner is the way to go. -DrewZilla

    I just bought an '03 HD Softail (FLSTCI). It has had the HD Big Bore Kit installed 4 years ago (3500 miles). It runs great but I would like to put the S&S kit on it because of the better workmanship. The kit that was installed was the 88 to 95. Can it be bored to a 103 or do I need to stay the same size and just switch over?

    • @fogit4668
      @fogit4668 4 роки тому

      You could keep your stock flywheel and get bigger cylinders but then need to have your engine case bored for the larger cylinders. That will require splitting the case open and taking out the flywheel. If you do that you might as well get a new and better stroked flywheel 4-3/8” (Darkhorse). If you are going to do all of that you might as well build a 117”.

    Increasing the capacity is a good way to get more power, but the heads are set up for the cams. Choose some cams (- the bigger the better in my opinion) that work well with the capacity increase you are thinking of ( bigger IS better ! )and get the heads ported by someone like Hammer who have loads of experience and can do it on a CNC mill - S&S can do it for you as well. Best Heads Harley make are the 110" twin cam ones and even they need work as they are set up to work with emission-compliant cams. As for the twincam crank, S&S ones are good and Dark Horse are the best but expensive - just get the crank refurbished with new rollers and cages, trued, pro-plugged and welded. Fit better mains ( the famous 'Lefty bearing') in both cases and get the case mouth bored for bigger cylinder spigots. 113" + engines give over 125 BHP and similar torque - I have done this and it is great fun, but the more air your 'pump' moves the more fuel it uses as well !

      Sander Peña inkesn the cylinders from hammer that I installed where ovalled meaning poor machine work. I called them and spoke to them directly. There explanation was the piston and rings will wear to the shape of the cylinder. This however is wrong and is just lazy and poor quality. Cylinders are exactly what? Circular not oval. Shitty product. Not reliable. This is my experience. I would not recommend there products

    It no longer matters. The HD motor company can not just lower prices. We now have access to Harley corporate balance sheets. This motor company in the red by almost 500 million. They are forced to sell bikes with substandard parts, just to generate the "shop-income" in some veil attempt to service some of these loans. This company in such a death spiral, is now only a matter of time before the banks start calling them in on some of these loans.........

      If the stock motor is in good shape, then you should be able to get 90+ or 100+ hp with the 100" Power Package and a good tune. Of course, there are so many variables that affect the end result, so this is the ideal outcome I'm listing. -DrewZilla

    • @thakery5720
      @thakery5720 5 років тому +1

      @@samcook2003 Once the clutch has slipped, the friction plates are toast. Instead of just a heavier spring, get an Energy 1 extra plate clutch pak. The spring is a little heavier and there is more surface area due to extra plates - these clutch paks are the best and quite reasonable compared to Harley stuff.

      @@judeloiselle7730 not in my case! I bought the S&S Hot Set Up for my 2014 Fatboy Lo. I had swapped out the high comp 11:1 pistons and 640 cams to more conservative 10.2:1 pistons and 585 cams. My Indy had to tear the engine apart 3 times once they were done due to faulty S&S parts. First time…. a bad S&S lifter (this wasn’t really a big problem). After changing the lifter, they sent me home to break it in. On my way home, I noticed the bike didn’t sound or feel right so next day I took it back. The cam plate and oil pump from S&S had also been faulty. They now had to swap out those items as well as replace the jugs and pistons as they were shot. After that repair, the shop called me again… they had said they had replaced all the parts and were going through the bike but this time there was a problem with the pistons or cylinders. They believed the cross-hatching in the cylinders had not been done right and they were not retaining oil. So again, new pistons and cylinders. This time it worked. S&S gas suffered a serious lack of quality-control through this Covid bullshit. They farmed out a lot of their machine-work in order to catch up with demand…. this is what my Indy had said S&S had told them. My bike was done almost a year and a half waiting on S&S parts…. it was an absolute shitshow and I wouldn’t do it again!
