The difference between DTS-HD MA and DTS Surround is that DTS-HD MA is compressed losslessly, meaning that no data has been removed from the original audio master. DTS Surround is compressed lossy, meaning that the audio has lost data, and should sound "worse". You can hear a difference if you have some very high-end speakers, but if you're hearing it through some InEars, you can't.
Regarding the difference in the surround audio tracks, I have found that many of my streaming devices can't play DTS-HD MA audio but can play the sub audio option of DTS Surround 5.1.

Hi. I've been having an issue lately (never used to have this issue) where my ripped blu ray MOVIE files are coming out where the scenes jump around out of order. 47 Merers down part 2 and Rambo 5. Scene will cut to a further part of the movie then after a few minutes jump back to another scene. Or cut out parts completely. Any idea why this is happening? I'm using windows 10.
I tried this on a Blu-ray disk in MakeMKV but received errors and the message: "The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted. Failed to open disc". Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
This has happened to me too. Unfortunately, I don't have any advice for you. If you're not on the latest version of MakeMKV, it may be worth updating. Can I ask what disc you're trying to rip?
Thanks for your response. The disc was "Zulu Dawn". The protection was AACS v37 if that helps. I downloaded MakeMKV v1.14.2 earlier that day. I am going to try other discs to see if the problem persists.
I was successful using this with another disc. However, there doesn't seem to be any way to get the subtitles on the video. Is there any way to do this?
@@Anton-le7gd There may not be subtitles on the file. You can see by opening the .mkv file in VLC Media Player and navigating to Subtitles > Subtitle Track. What disc did you rip?
Two titles showed up with the dvd I entered and so I clicked the one which was bigger assuming it was the film… and it is but it also still has the menus and everything therefore making it unplayable on an external HDD… Is there a way to just rip the movie and not the entire dvd format (menus etc) ?
I wish I could find a way to get MakeMKV to work on converting those old DVD-R disks that people used to record on before digital recording became common.

It’s wherever you set the destination folder. If you didn’t do that, then it’s just in whatever the default spot is. If you don’t know where that is, just queue up another job to see what the file path is.

@@cdcs_edits you'll need the program VLC media player to view .mkv files. And I believe when you have a video file highlighted in the left hand column, it shows the runtime in the right hand column.

You can always know which file is the feature based on the size. The feature is always the largest file on the disc. As for the flashes, I'm not sure. Either your drive is dropping frames when it's copying the disc (which sounds unlikely) or you're experiencing a playback issue. Wish I could help more!

An editing program, like Adobe Premiere Pro. Or Davinci Resolve, which is free. I don't know if either support .mkv files though, so you may have to transcode the files to .mp4 or .mov first.

I'm sure that is possible, but I don't have an experience doing that. In my opinion, that seems like a waste of time and money. You can get a 5 TB external hard drive from Western Digital for around $150 to store hundreds of films on.

I am having trouble. I used MakeMKV to make backups of DVDs and it created .iso files. When I try to burn those files to a dvd+r disc it does not function as a dvd. What am I doing wrong?

I did this and the output seams to be 16:9 and the move is 1:35:1 or 3840x1608 how can I get it to be the actual size of the movie

I guess that this will not work unless you have a blu ray drive on your pc ?. A dvd drive will not be adequate ?.
you need the drive applicable to your media. blu-rays need a blu-ray drive. dvds can use either, since blu-ray readers are backwards compatible.

In VLC media player, check which audio track is selected for playback. If there's only one track, you ripped the wrong feature file.

When playing back the files in VLC media player, you simply need to change which audio track is selected.

Haha yes. You're not "ripping" the data from the disc. It's probably more accurate to say that you're copying the data.
When I copy mutipul disks from a tv series it shows up as series 1 and series 2 etc when it's the same series, really annoying.
you have to rename the fist dvd disc first after decrypting it to your hard drive, keep renaming your mkv movies after each decryption. Got it?
