I've tried it with brand new dvds and scratched one's, and it only works about %70 of the time. It's a real bummer when products don't live up to their claims. There's been times, the program just shuts down completely when I try to convert a dvd to mp4.

My question is will it transfer the DVD’s surround sound soundtrack? I’ve got a huge DVD-A music collection and would love to put them on a USB drive but I have no idea if it will still give me the 5.1 surround sound. If not then there’s no point.

I have old home movies on DVDs and want to put them on USBs to give to my kids. Is there a better program to do this? How do I know what FORMAT to save it to?
You got to where you can select chapters and then said we’ll just skip that part. Well, that’s the only part I had questions about, everything else was super simple. I’m trying to download part of a tv series (one episode) but can’t seem to figure out how to find it.
Funny to see my comment and know to stop watching this video. Saved me some time. If you do watch this then skip to 2:30 because the first part is just rambling.

Thanks for this tutorial. I have a question if I may before I drop any cash on the product. Would I be able to convert a Video_TS folder into a MP4 file. Most rip products will convert a vob file to MP4 file but DVDs tend to have Video_TS folders with vob files inside. So the software would need to grab the folder and convert it to a MP4. Can WinX DVD Ripper perform this function. Thanks.
Odds are that would be easier to convert because if they are home movies there is no added copy protection in place. You might even find software from the camera manufacturer to make a digital version.

Unless they have a digital code that is still active you have two options. 1. Purchase the movie on VUDU. 2. If you can find a place that still does it they had a program where you could bring in your own movies (including home movies) and for a price ($8.00 last I saw) they would convert to a digital file on VUDU.

LQ and HQ would usually mean low and high quality. High quality would take longer but most video cards can assist with the encoding process making it much faster.
You would have to get a capture card to connect to the computer. (Most of the decent cards run about $100.00 or more if you can find them) The HDMI port on a laptop is configured and intended as a connection to an external monitor not to receive information. So when you connect a DVD player to your laptop both are taking and neither are listening. Personally I would find an external DVD drive (currently around $50.00 but you might find a better price)
