I always have problems getting double kicking out of the "drum kit from hell" to sound right after the first initial kick of the double kicking im doing its like the full health of the kick is lowered when i want that full grind to come out, is it because the kit only comes with one kick drum? 🤷🏽‍♂️ if ya know the solve to this id really appreciate it. Thanx in advance yall.

My question is how do you get toms to sound so full and punchy? My toms ALWAYS sound flat/hollow

In this case I'm really just using the "Drum Enhancer" preset from the Mastering expansion for EZMix 2. Other than that there is some mastering compression/limiting going on to bring the volume up, so that can make it sound bigger, but most of the change is coming from that EZMix 2 preset. A suggestion would be to actually use the "Sub-Kick" trick on your toms. You can send a copy of each tom, (it especially works well for the lower pitched floor toms) to a bus and then create a sub-tom effect like described in this video. I've done this to create some massive sounding floor toms in some of my other mixes.

Can I also use it for metal drums in the mix for a punchier Bass drum? Does it make sense?

Typical Metal bass drums tend to be more clicky in the higher frequencies. I'd say you definitely can give your bass drum more punch by boosting some of the subs to "thicken" it up.

You sure can! The 14x24" GMS (the one used in this video) would be my suggestion for metal. You could use the same technique with the Sub-Kick to boost the low frequencies, but could also use a "High" filter type with the dial on the right side of the filter plugin and find a roll-off point where the Sub-Kick channel has more definition. Or you can use this technique on the main kick channel, you just wouldn't roll off any high-end. You can use the "High" filter types to create a bit of a boost on both sides of the frequency spectrum and can adjust to taste. As far as the EZmix 2 Drum Enhancer preset is concerned, that seems to work well for all styles so I'd give it a try for you metal mix drum bus. You can adjust the Lift setting to taste.

DrumAngleOfficial Thank you for responding Luke! I'll give it a try, sounds very good to me. The "drum enhancer" seems to be the right tool for my main drum bus too, because all my drums are unprocessed and the result in your video is outstanding!
