Well perhaps I can enlighten you on the logic and you'll change your mind. Simple projects like cutting boards, cheese boards, gift boxes, and pizza peels make excellent gifts. Once you make one, it's all too common to have a friend stop by and request one. Wouldn't it be nice to have a template sitting around so you can quickly batch out another one or multiples?

Growing up on the outskirts of Trenton, pizza never got better. I moved to Ohio and later on my Mom moved out to Surprise, AZ a few years ago; I've never been able to find a pizza place that understood the meaning of pizza pie. Thanks for video, Marc. It's always nice to see a small project come from your shop. Keep it up, it's what makes your videos and projects so awesome!

In all seriousness, I visited Chicago a while back for a friend's wedding and had a chance to try the real deal. It was actually pretty good, but a very different perspective on pizza. I could certainly appreciate why folks like it.

We actually didn't go there that often because it was always too crowded. But we would go there occasionally. Before they closed down we would go to Joe's on S. Clinton Ave every Saturday night. After that, we'd go to Palermo's on 206 in Bordentown.

The best thin crust pizza comes from Federicis in Freehold NJ. Although i moved to vermont 7 years ago and finally found 1 good place for pizza that even comes close. Pizza peel looks great thanks for showing how easy it could be. I cant wait to make my own.

You need a fire-brick wood-fired pizza oven in your back yard. 600-800 degree heat and cook the pizza for less than five minutes. Slightly longer handled pizza peel. Heaven.

As a wood working baker in my free time I loved this. Made one a year ago out of scrap maple. I would caution on finishing them though as I set the oven to 550 and the oil will burn and scorch... Bad eats... Just sand it super smooth.... Dampen and sand some more... Clean with damp cloth after use. Also if you tap the handle heal the pizza will slide around easily.

The only issue with that is the fact that you aren't likely to get the handle glued on perfectly. That's why I found it easier to leave it oversized, then trim flush, then roundover. If you roundover first, you need to be absolutely certain you get that thing glued on in the perfect position, which is a little tricky to do.

Marc, it's perfectly alright to earn a living. Going way too commercial is still okay. Just don't forget the armatures and woodworkers that you inspired, and got you up there to begin with. It doesn't always have to be tool commercials or selling something. Give us a tiny bit of your valuable time and keep on teaching and inspiring.

Nice little project. I think I'd probably have rounded over the edges of the large flat section at the router table before I glued on the handle. The larger radius on the handle would have left you with the same manual blending to do.

Put like that I can see the logic you applied and it does make a little sense of sorts although personally I would still have used cardboard/paper as the template
Timber for me is for the project, or jigs that ease the fabrication of the project
The templates would be either paper or card which can be folded and placed in a filing cabinet/drawer/folder i.e. flexible and fit almost anywhere,or in todays world where they can sit on a hard drive and be printed out as and when required

Marc, if you never use that chef's jacket in the kitchen again... You have a good wood turning smock just swap the buttons for Velcro cut off the sleeve to the elbow and bada bing you have a turners smock. Half a the price and it works perfectly. It is what I use but I got lucky found one at goodwill.

mechanically speaking, I believe that, perhaps, if you can remove temporarily the liquid to another recipient, place the solids (flour) and then pour in the liquid slowly and steadily while mixing the ingredients, you might make the dough homogenize better, with less effort, but as I've seen on the video it is not really required. Love you show and your wife is lovely! =)

I dont think the wood makes any difference once coated with oil finish. The corn meal puts a lot of powder on the surface so no matter what species you use, the result will likely be the same. And I sure would LOVE to take a trip to Italy one of these days. I still have family there. They don't know me, but I can stop in and eat their food anyway. :)

This seems like a great gift for my dad, but we're more of a frozen-pizza-on-the-oven-rack kind of family. Would the peel hold up to the oven grate? I was thinking maybe adding a metal tip, but I would have no idea how to execute that even if it was necessary.

But for me, a template is more than just a shape. It's a routing template. Obviously you can't use cardboard or paper in a flush-trimming operation. So if it's something for my own personal reference and I don't plan to make another one in the future, a paper template makes perfect sense. But if I anticipate building more of something in the future (or multiples), a hard template is the most efficient way to go.
