A couple features really shine for balusters. One is the pinpoint precision of the guides. The other is the centering pins you can install on the bottom and locate and drill on center automatically.
No. The angle for pocket-holes is very steep. Steep enough that the center of the bit cannot engage until well into the cut. That's why pocket-hole jigs use a bushing that keeps the bit on track until the center spur can engage.
Just had a question ?? To me it looks like you are drilling the holes for the legs with the angle facing towards the middle of the stool ?? Shouldn’t that be facing out?? I know this is for demonstration purposes also ?
Did I notice correctly that the through-holes are being drilled from the top side of the stool seat? Can the jig be used for blind holes from the bottom or is the extended end of the base too long to achieve alignment?
Michael, yes, I was drilling through holes from the top. I'm pretty sure stopped holes from the bottom will be no problem, but I will try it out Monday morning and reply here. Maybe another Deep Dive. I've been so obsessed with through tenons on the last 3 of these I've built that I didn't think about blind. Target alignment will not be the issue, I can assure you of that. You only need three points to be on target. Clamping may be a little trickier, but I'll set it up Monday and let you know.
Or would be nice to get better visibility into the product roadmap. Had I known this was going to be released I wouldn't have bought the auto-line drill guide. Second time where I bought a product from them and then an obviously more flexible product came along.
The angle drilled into the chair seat by Jeff is drilled so that the legs point to the center raising the center of gravity and resulting in a topple. Yes, this example places the drill in an optimal position to clamp the drill base to the seat, but the result is not what you want.
Jeff, this makes sense. Thanks for the explanation. I await this angle guide to arrive very shortly. You have just helped me with future stability issues. I could have used this guide as a second to the auto- line drill guide this past week. You are a gentleman and are appreciated.
Dude! That’s a nice piece of plywood you’re calling “sacrificial”. You guys must be making a lot off those tools to use $20 worth of plywood like scrap. 😂🤣😂🤣
I would love to have one of these but I just can’t justify the price you’re asking. Think of how many people would buy your stuff if it was more reasonable 🤔
I always enjoy Jeff’s presentation of your tools. Good Jeff, Job!
Glad you like them!
Thank you, Jeff and Woodpeckers.
new location today! I like the tool display in the background, wish I had that many!
Jeff you a excellent presentation showing how to use tools. Australia.
Thanks Jeff.
It's always a great presentation.
Just ordered one of these! Very excited!
I was also confused about this. At first glance thought he was drilling from the bottom of the seat and the holes were angle inward.
Good job Jeff
You just cant beat Woodpeckers tools!
Great explanation on the need of this devise and like me I have no drill press so it makes better sense now with better thoughts on it. Thanks Man.
Nice video ... thanks.
Fantastico!
Interior stair balusters come to mind.

Can you recommend this drill guide for pocket holes in e.g. 1 inch plywood?

Drilling from the top down.
Whats the best way to get ahold of woodpecker products in Europe :) cheers
Donde en Colombia lo puedo conseguir
Were legs splayed in vice out?

There's no problem drilling chair and stool seats from the bottom. There's plenty of room to get a clamp on the interior part of the base.
Can AutoAngle do everything that Auto-Line can do?
Sort of. It cannot fit in small spaces as well as the Auto-Line.
I feel like penn from Penn and teller just walked me through the drill guide 😆
Hi! Where is it manufactured? In the US? With manufactured I mean just that, not just "assembled" :)
The chuck is Japanese. All the rest is 100% machined, assembled and inspected in Strongsville, Ohio, USA.
Either the legs cross over underneath or he’s drilling through and the legs go on the “down side” of the drilled hole.
Drilling from the top down.
Too bad you cannot upgrade the auto-line with the auto-angles base.
Only two common parts.
I would suggest not buying the 90 degree miter gauge then. I am sure an angled one is in the planning now.

I'm drilling from the top down, through hole. Legs splay away from the seat, not into the middle.

Quality and accuracy cost money. If you can make one as good for less money, go ahead. I won't hold my breath while I wait.
Rockler makes an excellent one for a fraction of the price. And every bit as accurate. Just saying.
So buy that one and then be sure to post a detailed report of how "every bit as accurate" it is, with info on how you tested and measured it.
