I bought a really well tested and reviewed PSU. It was one of the best rated 1200w ATX 3.0 PSU’s on the PSU Cultist List. Unfortunately, the cables are terrible. They have really hard plastic sleeves that run almost right up to the connectors. Most of the cables are way longer than they need to be, with tons of redundant leads. I basically had to throw cable management out the window and just shove cables in any nook and cranny I could find. If I had it to do over again, I’d buy a Seasonic/Phanteks, Corsair, Asus or EVGA. These are the only makers that seem to have readily available aftermarket cable replacements. Otherwise you’ll have to custom order or fab your own if the cable included don’t fit your case or fail.
@@alexb.1320 Even on a larger case a lot of these issues would remain. For example, all the connectors are right up against a very stiff vinyl sleeve that is almost 3” long. So all the returns have to protrude out about 4-5” before routing to the back of the case. If you used extensions you’d probably have an unruly amount of cable length behind the case. It’s honestly kind of shocking that the designers clearly never tried to build a PC with the provided cable before signing off on the design, the cables are objectively a poor design. The crazy thing is that everybody just accepts the lie that PSU makers won’t adopt a cable standard to “protect consumers from damaging their components”. It’s really just engineered obsolescence. If a cable fails or gets lost, then you need a whole new PSU. There’s already a standard for the component side. No reason not to do the same on the PSU side. An 8,6, or 4 pin CPU connector won’t physically fit an 8,6, or 4 pin GPU connector. If they all used the same connections consumers would have a million affordable options for cables. Right now, expensive bespoke cables from Cable Mod are the only option besides the DIY route.
@@sengan2475 it was the NZXT C1200 I ended up replacing it with a Seasonic Focus 1000w PSU. Such an improvement cables are so important, and often overlooked by even the best reviewers because they do most of their testing on a test bench.

As I understood the Cultist list, the difference between A-tir and B-tir is that A-tir has thermal protection. And that's why power supplies are 50 euros more expensive in the A tier. If the air intake in the power supply is separate from the space where your processor and graphics card are(for example, your power supply is on the lower part of the case and sucks air from the outside), then you can freely buy a B-tier. Because the temperature of the processor and graphics card will not affect the temperature of the power supply.
noise levels is something i truly care about.. My PSU has been sounding like a jet engine. Small distinct high frequency sine wave sound (pretty loud) that also annoy and makes me tire out easily when working. Temps are always good to think about, but i care more about my mental right now hah! So A-tier it is.
@@senectarius9685 i went for the NZXT C1000 (2024 revision) for my used 4090 build. Its got pretty stiff power cables which is a little wack, but the noise and cooling is top notch. Haven’t had any issues for the past 2 months.
I would also recommend looking at reviews at hardware busters for power supplys. This guy used to do the power supply reviews for tech power up. He is held in high regard in the tech community.
The MSI MAG A750GL is not on the PSU cultist tier list like stated in the video. The one that is in the speculative section of Tier A is the MSI MPG A-G series.
@rodiculous9464 not exactly true given common advice is to try to size ur psu to only run about 2/3s of its max output so as to not run it flat out all the time... leave some headroom if you will

Here's an important bit of information for those that don't read the manual. You'll often get a PCI-E power cable that has 2 x 8-pin connectors on it (as well as another with a single 8-pin connector). This DOES NOT mean you use just this cable for a GPU that has 2 x 8-pin ports. You will often need to balance the load across two 12V rails (check the PSU manual!!). In other words, use two cables. The extra 8-pin connector on the single cable is for when a GPU has 3 x 8-pin ports in which case you use that cable and the one with the single 8-pin connector. Although the card will look to be working 90% of the time with just the single cable, you will encounter problems.
Jason, going along with a video 5 days ago and a question about cleaning your PC; My area is very dry, so we use humidifiers inside the house. These are the ultrasonic humidifiers and as a result of the hard water in the area, they leave a residue of calcium and magnesium all over the house and in my PC. Do you know of or have any concerns about this kind of build up of minerals being any worse than regular dust for a PC?
I bought a thermaltake bronze psu 12 years ago that lasted me until now, still going strong. Building a new pc hoping I can get something as reliable as that.
When it comes to PSUs. I always go with SeaSonic. That warranty they offer is amazing, and other brands use their units, like Corsair. And I always make sure my power requirements, are at 50% to 60% of the PSUs make power. Because I've been told that PSUs are most efficient in that range of their power.
L M A O is crazy that you would upload this and put the link to that PSU tier list! Not because it's wrong, it's just funny. I had been researching stuff to build my gf her first PC with what I could find and within her given budget (out country laws and economy isn't great, also not good for availability) and found through several posts that PSU tier list which was already a year old but I thought it would do. One of the Tier C (I feel that is good enough considering with what we deal here generally PLUS the electricity as a whole which is whack) was affordable enough and I was like "Oh! Look I found something quite good that won't break your bank!" (in fact at around the same price there's a Cougar GEC 750 as well, new) using that list, only to find that my current PSU is F tier replace immediately, lol! I've been finding stores that sell used stuff, so I am planning in 1 or 2 weeks, if possible doing an upgrade with used parts if I can, get a 6600 XT (going from an RX 580 I think that is completely fine, especially it's 70 dollars less than the used 6700 XT which was my initial aim and I also am on 1080p so the 6700XT might not be a need), an AsRock Steel Legend B450 and the main topic of this video, a Seasonic Focus GM 750 or an XPG Core Reactor 850, which looking at it again right now is 10 dollars less. I guess I put in the Seasonic because is a brand I've heard on TechTube the most and not as much for XPG, despite the tier list. All that said, my current Ttake SmartRGB is there because out of the 3 PSU I could buy at the time, to replace my old Ttake NR2 which unbeknownst to me, it was an open box purchase that lasted 8 years+! with HEAVY use, heat, dust and shotty electricity. It only made sense for me to go with the same brand again. Needless to say that it's been around 3 years now, maybe? And I haven't had any issues. In fact I bought a new case and an AK400 Zero Dark from DeepCool, the processor and RAM are OCd right now to 4.1Ghz@1.3v and 3200MhzCl16 @ 1.35v and it's stable to the best of my knowledge on OCCT and cinebench + games I play. That said, like I said I have a 580 so it doesn't draw much power, and thinking on upgrading the PSU, I thought why not spend a bit more and switch also the PSU just in case and the MoBo so I can later add an M.2 and maybe at some point next month upgrade to a 5600-5700 if possible (currently have a 2600). So all in all, it is clear that PSUs sometimes despite the brands and quality build is a coin flip, with better quality/brands having much less % of bad things happening, even if it could. Thankfully I've never had bad experiences with these, but I also never mismatched components or overloaded the system with components that exceeded the potency of the PSU in use. Amazing video! Alternatives to the MSI and Apevia depending on your market: Cougar GECs and Corsair CVs (650 and 750) are also C tier or better, so if the prices of those aren't insane, those are good choices too, according to PSU Tier List.
@@MrAnimescrazy Well, we hovered the idea of a 5600G (or 5700G if she wanted to stretch out) and an overall mid quality build so she could be up and running due to GPU prices being literally insane for bad performance (1650s and the likes are the most affordable which is stupid because it'd be wasting too much money for something barely usable in general). We did more searching and we landed on the idea of an i3 12100F and a low GPU which was good enough for her (16Gbs ram @ 3200Mhz on both occasions). I spoke to her and decided that if I buy used parts and they don't steal my money, I could send her my PSU and GPU (580) which would be good enough and better than anything she could afford new right now. And then maybe eventually in the future if needed she can buy one of those things but gives her time to get the money for it.
Man, i hope they keep on testing more PSU and update the PSU Cultist list, there are some PSU which are cheap but couldnt find it in their listing, making doubt of buying them in the first place

Thank you for letting me know about this one. I hadn't seen the reviews on it and it seems they copied Thermaltake's design but also improved it and made it cheaper. A little noisy under heavy load but otherwise very recommendable unit.
@PCBuilderChannel it has a quiet mode mine is supper quiet but I also not running heavy system just bought it for the price at the time compared to 750w for 30 more why not the 1000w
I’ve been using cheap power supplies for years and rarely ever have any issues…extremely rare. I have been buying cheap psu’s from Evga (white line) for literally decades.
When I bought my 7900xtx nitro+ I wasnt sure if my Seasonic 850W PSU would fit because it only had 2 8-pin GPU power connectors with a 6+2- pin connector attached to each 8 pin cable, so the 3 8-pin slots were powered by basically 2 cables only. I contacted Seasonic and they recommended to get a unit with 3 8-pin connectors. I still took a shot (trusting Seasonics quality) and my pc shut down the moment I loaded up Cyberpunk 2077 :) . For the time being I undervolted the 7900xtx just so I could use my PSU and I ordered a new unit (power cables ran fairly warm, so this is not recommended!, but I have excellent air flow in my Fractal torrent). This time it was the Corsair RM1000x with 3 seperate 8-pin cables and it works totally fine. I heard the X- version has no fan issues so I went for that one instead of the E- version. And my unit is silent and works perfectly even on the highest power draws I can pull off. Always invest in a good and proper PSU. Id even say the PSU is the most important PC part.
Good video as always. The ADATA XPG Core Reactor II 850W and 1000W GPUs also seems like really good options due to their $99 and $129 Prices and 10 Year Warranties.
Love my corsair rm850e. People will tell scary stories about a noisy fan. I game for hours in silence. I have the rm850x too. only difference is a bigger fan and japanese caps and no 12vhpwr type 4 cable for my gpu. I havent noticed any performance issues from the more compact design of the E series and it included the cable my gpu needed.
I have ordered the corsair rm850x too with my rtx 4080 super ryzen 7 build, can you tell me if the rm850x is loud or has any other issues if any youve experienced?

I purchased a Thermaltake 700W PSU. In one group I belong to, I saw a guy who had melted cables from the cheaper PSU. I returned the PSU needless to say.
There are Thermaltake, corsair, deepcool, phanteks, asus, gigabyte, msi, super flower, cooler master, silverstone, antec, seasonic. They all have white power supplies.
You can pretty much have one answer: buy a seasonic of the right size. It may cost more, but a good PSU will last you through several MB/Videocards/CPUs. A bad PSU will risk killing them. You are better getting a GOOD PSU and spending money on it because it is one component that longterm can pay for itself. A good PSU, a good case? You can reuse for a LONG time.

@@ghollz8488i have the focus 850 from seasonic idk which version it is but i purchased it in 2020. It’s good but it’s very sensitive to transient power spikes. It trips on my 3090 - 13600K when i have them overclocked. I wouldn’t recommend unless you you have a midrange build
I also wonder why no Seasonic PSU on your recommendation. The latest Seasonic Focus GX ATX3.0/PCI-E 5.0 and vertex comes with individually sleeved cables ssving money from buyin cable extension for the looks and comes with a 10 yr warranty. I think Corsair RMe models doesn't use Japanese capacitors, would this be a deciding factor over other PSU that uses one?
MSI psu weights 1/3 more than corsair 3kg vs 2kg... wtf ... more weight, more quality in electronics and sound systems... it has always been said... Just bought the MSI psu (same manufacturer as corsair), It may be a little better or worse... but it will last many more years... ... thx 4 video
hot tip - the corsair is the better psu because it has a longer 600w GPU cable. The GPU cable in the Thermaltake is VERY SHORT. Did not work in a meshroom S.

Wanna point out if you're getting a thermaltake toughpower gf1 850w, make sure it's "made in china" and not Vietnam. There's two version of it. The Vietnam version is defective. Had to get a new psu after so many crashes(went for lian li 1000w).
It's frustrating how, no matter how well something is rated, or by who, the second you search it up to see what people are saying, you get immediately flooded with "Never, ever buy this, it's trash/ it's loud/ coil whine/ zero mode/etc /etc/ etc!" Honestly, the more research I do, the less clue I have about what to actually buy 😓

Maan, I'm planning to buy 80 gold PSU, but the question is can I use additional stabilizer again? Someone said do not use additional stabilizer for the full range PSU because it can destroy the PSU/ stabilizer itself because it will be a double AVR/ Stabilizer, AVR/stabilizer from the PSU and stabilizer it self. I'll stick with Corsair. My wife's pc is powered by a 11 year old AX760i pushing a 3800x/ 3080. My son's pc has an old tx750 still going with my old 1080ti. I'm running an RM 1000x for a few years now. No issues ever..
I got an hx1000i and regret not getting a super flower, woulda been much cheaper but i just went with the “safe” pick since its my first high end pc. Either way should be fine for a 7800x3d and 4080 super *knock on wood*

I recently bought a used PC for $400. It came with a 5800X3D, 2060 6GB, 16GB RAM, and a Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 750W 140mm fan PSU. PSU cultist doesn't really specify this unit, but it does have the 850W variant on the A tier list. Please advise? Edit: PSU Cultist
I would agree with comments about the Corsair RMe ATX 3.0 fans. I have the RM1000e and the fan constantly stop/starts with a 'soft buzz' noise even at idle! Not recommended as the could be distracting for you. Further to this I have rotated the PSU (fan up) and placed a fan directly above as an assist. I'm sure the PSU fan starts but I can't hear it.
Man, I wish i had this video a little earlier! I recently bought a new PSU for my build to acommodate a future RX 6700 XT. Using that calculation trick i saw that I needed around the same amount of watts that the PSU provided. I mean, it'll still do the job but if I had known better, I would have held off and bought an even better one.
Just picked up a Corsair SF1000L to replace a Cooler Master 750w unit. My 6950XT was giving coil whine with the 750w, but is quiet with the 1000w. Got the 1000w SFX PSU for $110 on sale. It comes with the ATX bracket, so works fine in my O11 Vision. Just budget some extensions if you go this route, as SFX cables are short. Good job kn the breakdown of PSUs. Everyone should see this

Had some decent reviews too. This was insane price for a unit that I took be high stock and China based product that may go way up with tariffs later this year. Normally 119.99 usd. Not much on PSU listing though. Really nervous about usage.
I had to return my Corsair RM1000e due to a high-pitched screeching noise. I tried for a few days to ignore it but I just couldn't. Ended up going with the Corsair RM850x and it is dead quiet.
So what shall I buy for the Pro Art z790, i9 14900k, pro art 4080 super? Getting tired of all these new bullshit standarts, to be honest. Would have gone for a corsair hx1200i, because I want a silent supply where the radiatior ist not going all the time, but Ive heard its missing some of the current cables...
Unfortunately, when I ordered the MSI MAG 550BN, it was dead on arrival. Nothing I did would get it to turn on at all. I ordered a replacement of the same model from Amazon, and the new one was *also* dead on arrival. I sent it back for a refund, and got the Apevia Prestige 600W instead, and it is working just fine in the PC I am using to type this comment. (This is a low-powered PC, and PC Part Picker only showed I needed 359 watts, so 550 should have been plenty.) I realize that the MSI PSUs being dead were probably just flukes, and that the 550BN is probably a good reliable model, but I was very disappointed to purchase two of the same model PSU in a row where neither one of them would turn on at all.
I have a 850w GF3 and it has the fan issue too, not really a problem, but when the fan kicks on, it's the most noticeable fan in the system. You can replace the fan with a quieter one, but you have to open up the PSU and do some soldering, which I'm not comfortable with. The problem is the fan kicks on seemingly randomly even at less than 50% load. Just annoying when it does. Other than that no issues at all with this PSU. Update: The 12VHPWR cable is pretty stiff and if it bends at the connector, it has a high chance of breaking.

I'm surprised to see no SeaSonic PSUs here. I heard they had very good and well rated products. I was thinking of going with a Seasonic Focus GX, 850W PSU. But that 850W MSI PSU looks pretty good.
It's because when he made this video SeaSonic PSUs weren't priced well in the US. Now, the SeaSonic Focus GX 3.0 PSUs are at good prices in the US so they're now a great choice.

I really need your help with this. I only want to use EVGA power supplies. I just had to much respect for them and how they gave up on nVidia for being jerks regarding the GPU market so I want to support them in the PSU market. The problem is when I look at their products on the tier list its VERY confusing. Theres a lot of symbols like , next to model names, random letters in brackets, random dates in brackets next to models, etc. Theres one model on the B Tier list named the "EVGA GD2017". Like, how am I supposed to determine when the thing was made? And does that now exclude the GD's made outside of that date? The C Tier list includes this line "EVGA | Supernova B2 - GD 2019 -V* - GQ
I only use evga power supply especially 850w super nova 10 yrs warranty. Know I get evga 850w GA 80 gold. I keep it simple I use then since they came out I build computers since the 90s.
I've stopped recommending most EVGA products because it seems the founder, rather than selling off the company to someone else, wants to spin it down and put it out of business. EVGA is a private company so that is his decision, however as a result you'll notice their warranties are suddenly very short, and it seems very iffy that they'll even be in business to make good on the longer warranties. As such, I just can't recommend their products to consumers. (NOTE: I have no issue with what they did with NVIDIA and actually applaud it, however again the founder didn't stop there and seems to be winding the entire business down, not just the GPU division.)
I got the be quiet pure power 12M. 1000W. Got it on a sale that made it as cheap as any other 850W. It taught me to hate 6+2 connecters, but it's doing well otherwise.
That Thermaltake GF3 PSU was horrible for me, died on me after a month. Crashed and booted games and surfing the internet all the time and the fan didn’t know how to spin properly. Hopefully that Corsair RMe 850W works for me. Customer support for thermaltake was super rude as well.
Does anyone know anything about Redragon psus? On the tier list it’s just marked as E tier- avoid, which I know usually means there just isn’t enough info or reviews to rate it and they expect it to be mid. Amazon has like a thousand reviews and hardly any issues and it’s 90$ for 850 watts so it’s really hard to not buy it any thoughts
I would say no because the NZXT C850 (2022) is currently $100 and the SeaSonic FOCUS GX-850 ATX 3.0 is currently $110 so both aren't a ton more than that Redragon

Basically if your build is below 1200$ dollars get a montech gammaII with wattage you need and if your pc is above 1200$ get a montech titan gold with wattage you need. If you can find any

These are the only makers that seem to have readily available aftermarket cable replacements. Otherwise you’ll have to custom order or fab your own if the cable included don’t fit your case or fail.

@@alexb.1320 Even on a larger case a lot of these issues would remain. For example, all the connectors are right up against a very stiff vinyl sleeve that is almost 3” long. So all the returns have to protrude out about 4-5” before routing to the back of the case. If you used extensions you’d probably have an unruly amount of cable length behind the case. It’s honestly kind of shocking that the designers clearly never tried to build a PC with the provided cable before signing off on the design, the cables are objectively a poor design.
The crazy thing is that everybody just accepts the lie that PSU makers won’t adopt a cable standard to “protect consumers from damaging their components”. It’s really just engineered obsolescence. If a cable fails or gets lost, then you need a whole new PSU. There’s already a standard for the component side. No reason not to do the same on the PSU side. An 8,6, or 4 pin CPU connector won’t physically fit an 8,6, or 4 pin GPU connector. If they all used the same connections consumers would have a million affordable options for cables. Right now, expensive bespoke cables from Cable Mod are the only option besides the DIY route.

@@sengan2475 it was the NZXT C1200 I ended up replacing it with a Seasonic Focus 1000w PSU. Such an improvement cables are so important, and often overlooked by even the best reviewers because they do most of their testing on a test bench.

As I understood the Cultist list, the difference between A-tir and B-tir is that A-tir has thermal protection. And that's why power supplies are 50 euros more expensive in the A tier.
If the air intake in the power supply is separate from the space where your processor and graphics card are(for example, your power supply is on the lower part of the case and sucks air from the outside), then you can freely buy a B-tier. Because the temperature of the processor and graphics card will not affect the temperature of the power supply.

My PSU has been sounding like a jet engine. Small distinct high frequency sine wave sound (pretty loud) that also annoy and makes me tire out easily when working.

Its got pretty stiff power cables which is a little wack, but the noise and cooling is top notch. Haven’t had any issues for the past 2 months.

Unfortunately the Cultist list is FAR outdated. We don't know anything new. They don't discuss noise which is VERY important to people like me.
I would also recommend looking at reviews at hardware busters for power supplys. This guy used to do the power supply reviews for tech power up. He is held in high regard in the tech community.

The MSI MAG A750GL is not on the PSU cultist tier list like stated in the video. The one that is in the speculative section of Tier A is the MSI MPG A-G series.

Here's an important bit of information for those that don't read the manual.
You'll often get a PCI-E power cable that has 2 x 8-pin connectors on it (as well as another with a single 8-pin connector). This DOES NOT mean you use just this cable for a GPU that has 2 x 8-pin ports. You will often need to balance the load across two 12V rails (check the PSU manual!!). In other words, use two cables. The extra 8-pin connector on the single cable is for when a GPU has 3 x 8-pin ports in which case you use that cable and the one with the single 8-pin connector. Although the card will look to be working 90% of the time with just the single cable, you will encounter problems.
Jason, going along with a video 5 days ago and a question about cleaning your PC; My area is very dry, so we use humidifiers inside the house. These are the ultrasonic humidifiers and as a result of the hard water in the area, they leave a residue of calcium and magnesium all over the house and in my PC. Do you know of or have any concerns about this kind of build up of minerals being any worse than regular dust for a PC?
That is a very good question. I would guess that it can be a problem but look up information on youtube etc. to find out.

I bought a thermaltake bronze psu 12 years ago that lasted me until now, still going strong. Building a new pc hoping I can get something as reliable as that.

When it comes to PSUs. I always go with SeaSonic. That warranty they offer is amazing, and other brands use their units, like Corsair.
And I always make sure my power requirements, are at 50% to 60% of the PSUs make power. Because I've been told that PSUs are most efficient in that range of their power.
L M A O is crazy that you would upload this and put the link to that PSU tier list! Not because it's wrong, it's just funny. I had been researching stuff to build my gf her first PC with what I could find and within her given budget (out country laws and economy isn't great, also not good for availability) and found through several posts that PSU tier list which was already a year old but I thought it would do. One of the Tier C (I feel that is good enough considering with what we deal here generally PLUS the electricity as a whole which is whack) was affordable enough and I was like "Oh! Look I found something quite good that won't break your bank!" (in fact at around the same price there's a Cougar GEC 750 as well, new) using that list, only to find that my current PSU is F tier replace immediately, lol!
I've been finding stores that sell used stuff, so I am planning in 1 or 2 weeks, if possible doing an upgrade with used parts if I can, get a 6600 XT (going from an RX 580 I think that is completely fine, especially it's 70 dollars less than the used 6700 XT which was my initial aim and I also am on 1080p so the 6700XT might not be a need), an AsRock Steel Legend B450 and the main topic of this video, a Seasonic Focus GM 750 or an XPG Core Reactor 850, which looking at it again right now is 10 dollars less. I guess I put in the Seasonic because is a brand I've heard on TechTube the most and not as much for XPG, despite the tier list.
All that said, my current Ttake SmartRGB is there because out of the 3 PSU I could buy at the time, to replace my old Ttake NR2 which unbeknownst to me, it was an open box purchase that lasted 8 years+! with HEAVY use, heat, dust and shotty electricity. It only made sense for me to go with the same brand again. Needless to say that it's been around 3 years now, maybe? And I haven't had any issues. In fact I bought a new case and an AK400 Zero Dark from DeepCool, the processor and RAM are OCd right now to 4.1Ghz@1.3v and 3200MhzCl16 @ 1.35v and it's stable to the best of my knowledge on OCCT and cinebench + games I play. That said, like I said I have a 580 so it doesn't draw much power, and thinking on upgrading the PSU, I thought why not spend a bit more and switch also the PSU just in case and the MoBo so I can later add an M.2 and maybe at some point next month upgrade to a 5600-5700 if possible (currently have a 2600).
So all in all, it is clear that PSUs sometimes despite the brands and quality build is a coin flip, with better quality/brands having much less % of bad things happening, even if it could. Thankfully I've never had bad experiences with these, but I also never mismatched components or overloaded the system with components that exceeded the potency of the PSU in use.

Alternatives to the MSI and Apevia depending on your market: Cougar GECs and Corsair CVs (650 and 750) are also C tier or better, so if the prices of those aren't insane, those are good choices too, according to PSU Tier List.

@@MrAnimescrazy Well, we hovered the idea of a 5600G (or 5700G if she wanted to stretch out) and an overall mid quality build so she could be up and running due to GPU prices being literally insane for bad performance (1650s and the likes are the most affordable which is stupid because it'd be wasting too much money for something barely usable in general).
We did more searching and we landed on the idea of an i3 12100F and a low GPU which was good enough for her (16Gbs ram @ 3200Mhz on both occasions). I spoke to her and decided that if I buy used parts and they don't steal my money, I could send her my PSU and GPU (580) which would be good enough and better than anything she could afford new right now. And then maybe eventually in the future if needed she can buy one of those things but gives her time to get the money for it.

Definitely sympathetic to those on a tight budget, but of all the components I'd probably recommend spending the extra $30 here to get an A tier PSU.
I’ve been using cheap power supplies for years and rarely ever have any issues…extremely rare. I have been buying cheap psu’s from Evga (white line) for literally decades.
When I bought my 7900xtx nitro+ I wasnt sure if my Seasonic 850W PSU would fit because it only had 2 8-pin GPU power connectors with a 6+2- pin connector attached to each 8 pin cable, so the 3 8-pin slots were powered by basically 2 cables only. I contacted Seasonic and they recommended to get a unit with 3 8-pin connectors. I still took a shot (trusting Seasonics quality) and my pc shut down the moment I loaded up Cyberpunk 2077 :) . For the time being I undervolted the 7900xtx just so I could use my PSU and I ordered a new unit (power cables ran fairly warm, so this is not recommended!, but I have excellent air flow in my Fractal torrent). This time it was the Corsair RM1000x with 3 seperate 8-pin cables and it works totally fine. I heard the X- version has no fan issues so I went for that one instead of the E- version. And my unit is silent and works perfectly even on the highest power draws I can pull off.
Always invest in a good and proper PSU. Id even say the PSU is the most important PC part.

Love my corsair rm850e. People will tell scary stories about a noisy fan. I game for hours in silence. I have the rm850x too. only difference is a bigger fan and japanese caps and no 12vhpwr type 4 cable for my gpu. I havent noticed any performance issues from the more compact design of the E series and it included the cable my gpu needed.
I have ordered the corsair rm850x too with my rtx 4080 super ryzen 7 build, can you tell me if the rm850x is loud or has any other issues if any youve experienced?

I purchased a Thermaltake 700W PSU. In one group I belong to, I saw a guy who had melted cables from the cheaper PSU. I returned the PSU needless to say.

There are Thermaltake, corsair, deepcool, phanteks, asus, gigabyte, msi, super flower, cooler master, silverstone, antec, seasonic. They all have white power supplies.
You can pretty much have one answer: buy a seasonic of the right size. It may cost more, but a good PSU will last you through several MB/Videocards/CPUs. A bad PSU will risk killing them. You are better getting a GOOD PSU and spending money on it because it is one component that longterm can pay for itself. A good PSU, a good case? You can reuse for a LONG time.

I think Corsair RMe models doesn't use Japanese capacitors, would this be a deciding factor over other PSU that uses one?
Seasonic makes a lot of good ones! They just aren't priced as competitively as the ones in this video in the US market at the time of filming.

hot tip - the corsair is the better psu because it has a longer 600w GPU cable. The GPU cable in the Thermaltake is VERY SHORT. Did not work in a meshroom S.

Wanna point out if you're getting a thermaltake toughpower gf1 850w, make sure it's "made in china" and not Vietnam. There's two version of it. The Vietnam version is defective. Had to get a new psu after so many crashes(went for lian li 1000w).

It's frustrating how, no matter how well something is rated, or by who, the second you search it up to see what people are saying, you get immediately flooded with "Never, ever buy this, it's trash/ it's loud/ coil whine/ zero mode/etc /etc/ etc!"

I recently bought a used PC for $400. It came with a 5800X3D, 2060 6GB, 16GB RAM, and a Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 750W 140mm fan PSU. PSU cultist doesn't really specify this unit, but it does have the 850W variant on the A tier list. Please advise?

I would agree with comments about the Corsair RMe ATX 3.0 fans. I have the RM1000e and the fan constantly stop/starts with a 'soft buzz' noise even at idle! Not recommended as the could be distracting for you.
Further to this I have rotated the PSU (fan up) and placed a fan directly above as an assist. I'm sure the PSU fan starts but I can't hear it.

Man, I wish i had this video a little earlier! I recently bought a new PSU for my build to acommodate a future RX 6700 XT. Using that calculation trick i saw that I needed around the same amount of watts that the PSU provided. I mean, it'll still do the job but if I had known better, I would have held off and bought an even better one.

Just picked up a Corsair SF1000L to replace a Cooler Master 750w unit. My 6950XT was giving coil whine with the 750w, but is quiet with the 1000w. Got the 1000w SFX PSU for $110 on sale. It comes with the ATX bracket, so works fine in my O11 Vision. Just budget some extensions if you go this route, as SFX cables are short. Good job kn the breakdown of PSUs. Everyone should see this

I just found a 2 day sale for SAMA XP 1000w ATX Power Supply PSU For Gaming Computer PC Power Supply Unit White - 80 Plus Platinum Gold - ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 Compliant - Fully Modular - Low Noise Intelligent ECO Silent Fan. 10year warranty Newegg. 79.99. Had some decent reviews too. This was insane price for a unit that I took be high stock and China based product that may go way up with tariffs later this year. Normally 119.99 usd. Not much on PSU listing though. Really nervous about usage.
I had to return my Corsair RM1000e due to a high-pitched screeching noise. I tried for a few days to ignore it but I just couldn't. Ended up going with the Corsair RM850x and it is dead quiet.

If in the US the SeaSonic VERTEX GX-1200 is a good choice. I've heard good things about SeaSonic PSUs.
Unfortunately, when I ordered the MSI MAG 550BN, it was dead on arrival. Nothing I did would get it to turn on at all. I ordered a replacement of the same model from Amazon, and the new one was *also* dead on arrival. I sent it back for a refund, and got the Apevia Prestige 600W instead, and it is working just fine in the PC I am using to type this comment. (This is a low-powered PC, and PC Part Picker only showed I needed 359 watts, so 550 should have been plenty.)
I realize that the MSI PSUs being dead were probably just flukes, and that the 550BN is probably a good reliable model, but I was very disappointed to purchase two of the same model PSU in a row where neither one of them would turn on at all.

Glad I went with an XPG Core Reactor 750. It's presently overkill for my hardware but I trust it'll give me peace of mind for the next 8-10 years.
I have a 850w GF3 and it has the fan issue too, not really a problem, but when the fan kicks on, it's the most noticeable fan in the system. You can replace the fan with a quieter one, but you have to open up the PSU and do some soldering, which I'm not comfortable with. The problem is the fan kicks on seemingly randomly even at less than 50% load. Just annoying when it does. Other than that no issues at all with this PSU.
Update: The 12VHPWR cable is pretty stiff and if it bends at the connector, it has a high chance of breaking.

I'm surprised to see no SeaSonic PSUs here. I heard they had very good and well rated products. I was thinking of going with a Seasonic Focus GX, 850W PSU. But that 850W MSI PSU looks pretty good.
It's because when he made this video SeaSonic PSUs weren't priced well in the US. Now, the SeaSonic Focus GX 3.0 PSUs are at good prices in the US so they're now a great choice.
@@kelley09162 I’ve decided to go with a ADATA XPG CORE REACTOR 80 Plus Gold, 850W. Since it was about 20EUR cheaper than the MSI 850W

It's the old series, the RMe is Corsair's updated lineup which includes the newer PCIE 5.0 and ATX 3.0 standards.
@@PCBuilderChannelNo, RMx is better than RMe. The RMe version only have the atx3 pcie5 but the all build is worse than RMx
@@Samukr.The RMe units also frequently have complaints about noise, I've seen a lot more problems with them compared to RMx units.
I really need your help with this. I only want to use EVGA power supplies. I just had to much respect for them and how they gave up on nVidia for being jerks regarding the GPU market so I want to support them in the PSU market. The problem is when I look at their products on the tier list its VERY confusing. Theres a lot of symbols like , next to model names, random letters in brackets, random dates in brackets next to models, etc. Theres one model on the B Tier list named the "EVGA GD2017". Like, how am I supposed to determine when the thing was made? And does that now exclude the GD's made outside of that date? The C Tier list includes this line "EVGA | Supernova B2 - GD 2019 -V* - GQ
I only use evga power supply especially 850w super nova 10 yrs warranty. Know I get evga 850w GA 80 gold. I keep it simple I use then since they came out I build computers since the 90s.
I've stopped recommending most EVGA products because it seems the founder, rather than selling off the company to someone else, wants to spin it down and put it out of business. EVGA is a private company so that is his decision, however as a result you'll notice their warranties are suddenly very short, and it seems very iffy that they'll even be in business to make good on the longer warranties. As such, I just can't recommend their products to consumers. (NOTE: I have no issue with what they did with NVIDIA and actually applaud it, however again the founder didn't stop there and seems to be winding the entire business down, not just the GPU division.)
Ahhhh understood. Maybe I’ve given EVGA enough business for now and it’s time to move on to greener PSU’s.

I got the be quiet pure power 12M. 1000W. Got it on a sale that made it as cheap as any other 850W. It taught me to hate 6+2 connecters, but it's doing well otherwise.
A graded Thermaltake fixed all problems in my monsterbuild
What are your specs in your build?
That Thermaltake GF3 PSU was horrible for me, died on me after a month. Crashed and booted games and surfing the internet all the time and the fan didn’t know how to spin properly. Hopefully that Corsair RMe 850W works for me. Customer support for thermaltake was super rude as well.
Does anyone know anything about Redragon psus? On the tier list it’s just marked as E tier- avoid, which I know usually means there just isn’t enough info or reviews to rate it and they expect it to be mid. Amazon has like a thousand reviews and hardly any issues and it’s 90$ for 850 watts so it’s really hard to not buy it any thoughts
I would say no because the NZXT C850 (2022) is currently $100 and the SeaSonic FOCUS GX-850 ATX 3.0 is currently $110 so both aren't a ton more than that Redragon

Basically if your build is below 1200$ dollars get a montech gammaII with wattage you need and if your pc is above 1200$ get a montech titan gold with wattage you need.

don't really needed a PSU at the moment but this was entertaining still, I remember grabbing a Fractal Design ION Gold 750 for around $87 a couple months back just because it was an A Tier apparently on the tier list felt like it was a good decision to replace an old PSU
