1.PLEASE CAN YOU HELP ME BUILD MY PC (NOT FROM USA).Many of your builds with specific items while great problem is that in my country there arent many options, and when i ask different tech/it/pc stores can i order the parts thru them they say i cant and only can chose from what they have at store or their internet site (basicaly im extremely limited in my choices).Ordering from amazon, egg and others are eighter NOT AVAILABLE/CANT ORDER FOR MY COUNTRY or there is a part that can be shipped BUT problem is it adds additional 100$-200$-300$ shipment expenses.SO im stuck.
Good choice. The difference in performace on the B580 when comparing CPU's is eye-opening. Even the Ryzen 5600 struggles to keep up while using the B580. Been watching for years, first comment!
I will likely be sticking with my current rig for at least the next year or two unless a compelling deal pops up. Currently on a 5700x3D, 6800xt...its getting the job done at 1440p.
Thanks again for all the great work. I finally got my new beast built and up and running last October and had you on most of the time to hold my hand! I finished up with: Fractal Design Meshify 2 Compact, 7800X3D, MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI, TEAMGROUP T-Create Expert CL30 DDR5 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) 6000MHz, TEAMGROUP MP34 4TB with DRAM Gen3x4 M.2 2280 SSD, MSI MAG A850GL PCIE5 PSU 850W, Palit JetStream Nvidia GeForce 4070 Ti Super, MSI G274QPX 27" Monitor, Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard and Razer DeathAdder V3 mouse. Originally got a 24" inch monitor (Koorui GP01): really impressive, but just didn't have the "wow" factor size-wise; the 27" MSI finally hit the spot. Also (on your advice): upgraded the cooler, too (from DeepCool AK400), and no regrets there. Presently getting into Anno 1800 it all runs like a dream! Thx for all your sage advice! 👍👍👍🐈
Thank you so much for supporting the channel! Really glad that worked out for you. Congrats on your build!!! It does sound like a beast! Thanks for letting us know it means a lot
@@PCBuilderChannel Thanks, Jason! Six years since my previous build, so it was quite a steep learning curve; but you were by far the most helpful. Keep up the great work! 👍
@jeffjameson5082 Yeah...between a need to buy $1k+ GPU to be able to play a game that costs $60+ ,instead of just buying a $60+ game and being able to play it on your current GPU...I'd always choose the latter.
@@TheChudoviste or, and listen to me closely here.......... Game graphics and game worlds are becoming so detailed, weaker graphics cards just can't handle them due to a hand full of factors and game companies can only do so much to optimise their games for these much weaker/older gpu's 🤯 Crazy right?!
I run my windows system and games I'm playing on a 2Tb SSD. I move games I'm no longer playing to another steam library on a 6Tb hard drive. Media are on the HDD as they'd fill up the SSD.
@@anarumcnabb6505 Why put games you aren't playing on the HDD when you can just uninstall them? Not judging or anything, just wondering why you would bother even keeping the game around when you're not playing it.
@trueNahobino can't speak for them, but i live in Australia with not great internet, so it will take several hours to all day to download and install a game, friends of mine have metered internet, so they have bad speeds and limited amount of data, so they can't afford continually redownloading games they decide they want to play My linespeed is 50mbps(Max I could get is 100mbps), best case I get about 5-6MB/s so a 60gb game would take about 3hrs+ to download
@@trueNahobino You might want to come back to them at a later date, and a good majority of Americans at least have really crap internet speeds and data caps.
I agree. I use a small NVMe for Windows, 3 old SSDs for gaming and a HDD as network storage. I would not recomend putting an HDD in the pc anymore but network storage is the easiest it has ever been.
Check Hardware Canucks and Hardware Unboxed videos on how older cpus bottlenecks the B580, it is an eye opener. The market for the B580 is dropping out the bottom, who buys the fastest cpu's but cheaps out on the gpu... I'll keep my RTX3080 10Gb running 1440 with the 5800X3D and 64gb 3600Mhz RAM
First, most people don't have $400 to $700 to drop on a GPU. There are no $400 GPU's with 16GB of VRAM. For most, that equates to as much as 50% of their PC build budget. Second, most people aren't going to gut their systems just to get a Gen 4 PCIE slot and the ones who can afford to do so already have! The Ryzen 9 3900X 12 core/24 thread in my AMD system doesn't really care about Gen 3 or Gen 4. It still outperforms most Ryzen 5XXX chips. What you're suggesting is that most people just trash their old systems and cough up $3K to buy all the latest and greatest hardware. Not going to happen.
Storage is sacred, and you get what you pay for. It's not speed your are paying for, it's longevity and dependability. Buy a slower last gen drive if you want, but buy one from a credible retailer and brand that comes with a warranty, preferably 5 years. Read the reviews and avoid if there are none. Paying an extra $40 to not lose all your data after 8 months is a value investment.
I stopped watching after that recommendation, tell me to get a last gen or lower spec SSD, fine. Tell me to get an off brand SSD, no way, I wouldn't use it if it were free.
@@yunus89115 Yup, exactly this. The braindead comment about HDDs a little bit later didn't help his (lack of) reputation either. Go buy me a 12-16TB SSD for the same price as a HDD. Oh you can't? well well well... sounds like that "niche" scenario of needing lots of space isn't that niche afterall. That said, it also depends strongly on what one considers "off-brand". The amount of times I've heard Kioxia (for example) referred to as a "noname" SSD is insane. It's Toshiba. like wtf?
@@yunus89115 i literally just bought the 990 samsung ssd with heatsink (definitely didnt need the heatsink lol) and saw it on the picture of this video, so i clicked on it, but since installing it my pc loading so fast
True. On my latest motherboard (ASRock X870E Taichi), my current 7900 XTX GPU runs at x8 PCIe 4.0 speed due to needing a PCIe Capture Card inserted into the 2nd slot. Suffice to say, I do not notice much (if any) fps difference from the x8 speed. x8 Gen4 = x16 Gen3
I have to run PCIe 3 as on PCIe 4 there are audio issues. I've seen literally no performance drop due to the switch from PCIe 4.0 to 3.0 in any games, programs, or benchmarks.
I'm running DCS on a 4060ti with 8GB of VRAM. I don't have ANY issues at all. NO stuttering, no graphic anomalies...nothing. Smooth as silk and looks absolutely amazing!!
what there is a Ti with 8gb? i thought all 460ti have 16, like the one i have & most modern games (running ue5&co) end up needing around 10-12 gb @1440p !
Early 2023 I build my 1440p (1st) gaming pc and based on the advice in your videos back then I last minute swapped my cpu to a Ryzen 5 7600X instead of a more powerful and expensive, Intel cpu. I also listened and slapped a good but cheap air cooler on it. Man I'm glad that I did, I had more cash for a better gpu and the performance has been and still is amazing. For bonus points I dodged the intel degradation trouble although that was an unknown at the time. Anyway what I wanted to say is that I'm still watching even that whit your advice I don't need to build anything new anytime soon! But I love learning about the new stuff and you explain things very well.
Well maybe I'll get a new gpu half way into 2025 to make the bump to from 10gb to 16gb vram. But I definitely want to wait until the dust has settled on the new gpu generation.
Hey that's so great to hear! Thank you so much for sharing it really means a lot. So glad we could help and glad you are still enjoying the content! We sure appreciate the watch. Happy New Year!
@@PCBuilderChannel You need really good cpu for b580. Unfortunately people who wants to buy b580 (like me), are on budget with all components. So yeah, b580 is a big no, even if you have ryzen 5 5600...
I had to rewind that part THREE times to make sure I heard that correctly. 3080 can definitely do 1440p ok on many titles but on UE5 games it’s a 1080p card. that has more to do with the engine and optimization as opposed to the card itself imo.
it is 5 years old at this point almost. when the card released it was 4K good framerates and when the 3080 releaed, the gtx 1080 was the same age to what the 3080 is now.
Well, i heard now you can aswell trade your front teeths, from the upper right incisors all the way to the left incisors for half the price of a 5090 😂😂😂 add the lower teeths then you've got a 5090 with extra change 😂😂
I am a pensioner & I live in the land Downunder & the most I pay for a dentist visit is $45 I had an impacted wisdom tooth out a couple of months ago that had gone bad, and all it cost was $45. Being a pensioner, I pay just $20/pension & I see the dentist every month or tooth :p ATM
Glad to see the samsung 990 pro mentioned. I've build a new pc with help from your videos, and this very SSD (4TB) has given me so much grief. While trying to fix these problems, I found so many people with this exact same SSD having similar or the same problems. All stemming from samsung refusing to release updated nvme drivers for the 8 and 9 series ssd's, defaulting to the 2004 windows drivers. Causing a conflict with the magic software which then in turn causes crashes and the SSD going missing or being unrecognised by the MB. The only known fix is setting the SSD to performance mode in magic, which drastically reduces lifespan. Within a month with 14 crashes, lifespan was already reduced to 95%. After a month of trying I gave up, returned it and switched it for a Lexar NM790 4 TB. Never had any problem since. Lifespan is still 100% Whenever someone asks, I advice everyone to stay the hell away from the Samsung SSD's.
For external storage that's literally just going to be cold storage sure! But you'll notice a major performance difference if you use a hardrive for internal storage over the other options.
If it’s for anything but os and games sure. But in 2025 you absolutely shouldn’t be buying a hdd for games. Theres a reason they’re so cheap. Cause they’re trash
Never let bro cook again I disagree with a lot of things that you said for example a 3080 for 1080 only while most people know that it can handle 1440p, saying that 8gb vram cards are all bad well not everyone can keep putting extra money into the better option ofc if everyone had the money they would avoid them. about replacing cards there is really no need to change your card if it serves you for what you use it for unless you have the money and want a better experience sure swap the card for a better one. Also what do you mean by Nvme ssds being almost as cheap as hard drives? 11:55 people with low to midrange builds still use hard drives because of their cheap cost with high storage capacity instead of paying 40-50 for a 1tb nvme drive you can probably get 2tbs if not more depends on where you live and price costs for me 1tb nvme costs as much as 4tb hdds. there are great points mentioned in the video though like the CPU and mother boards
I still have a 1TB HDD in my computer, I bought it in 2014 as the drive for my old i5 gen 3 build. Of course I now have 3 SSDs, 1 512 NVMe and 2 1TB SATAs in my current system but I haven't got round to replacing it. Why? Well, since I got straight to my house fibre I have no real need for mass storage for games. Besides, there's nothing wrong using an HDD for small games, they just boot a little slower. And an HDD is perfectly fine for loading and running emulation on stuff like Gamecube, PS2&3 etc. At the end of the day while it keep workings perfectly like new it's not costing me anything leaving it in my machine until (if) I replace it and it still gives me 1TB of storage, seems a bit wasteful just to throw it away. Even if I do replace it I'll stick it in a caddy and use it as an external USB drive, though as it's a Western Digital Black with a solid shell all around it really doesn't need to be in a caddy per say.
I would take budget out of my video card to get an SSD versus a HD for Windows, such a huge quality of life improvement, never going back! Still, I do buy HDs to be a cheap place to dump recorded video before I do some amateur editing or just upload to Social media for my family to enjoy.
The big game developers have teamed up with the graphic card industry to loot us PC gamers. One makes shitty unoptimized games and the other sells low vram cards and decent cards at ridiculous prices.
I still have my HDD's from 22 years ago and it still purrs like a kitten.I've lost count how many ssds that have died on me. i will always have a HDD as my backup.
This was a great and erudite video. Free of every form of fan boying for AMD, Intel, and/or Nvidia. Practical and wise solutions for the real world as opposed to limitless money bleeding edge. Keep these vid coming. I have a Ryzen 7700, with a RX7800XT with 16 gigs of VRAM, with a 2 gig NVME, Windows 11, 32 gigs of DDR5 RAM and am going up to 64 gigs of RAM soon. This system will carry me over three to four years before I switch it out for something new. I put together this system in December 2024. I also have your recommended motherboard in B650 family. Perfect for me.
It's unfortunate that the B580 is so affected by CPU speed. A couple reviewers have discovered that it has so much CPU overhead that it isn't a good value unless you have a $400+ CPU.
A lot of commenters on the hardware unboxed video pointed out that those issues only arise when using CPUs which the B580 does not support. But even Ryzen 3000 series is fine and doesn't have this problem.
@markdash12 yeah that was debunked by hardware unboxed. The performance declines within every generation of Ryzen CPU's as you move down the performance stack. It has nothing to do with supporting certain functions. They tested Ryzen 2000, 3000, 5000 and 7000 CPU's. The 1% lows really start to take a hit. Just going from a 9800x3d to a 7600 is enough of a performance hit that the B580 goes from having the lead to falling behind the 4060.
@@hochhaul Intel is a newbie in dGPU, so its GPUs desperately needs ReBAR support, they simply don't have much optimization for ReBAR-less systems. They are also more sensitive to CPU performance for probably related clauses. But to say Intel GPUs need at least 7800x3d or something to actually perform well is bogus.
@@negi9076 It can perform fine with some of the latest CPU's, it just fell behind the 4060 without the 9800x3d. 1% lows were worse on the B580 when paired with the 7600 or weaker CPU, including the 5700x3d. The worst was Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered, where the B580 dropped 33% just going from the 9800x3d to the Ryzen 7600.
I feel like your opinion on the GPUs is actually insane. A GTX 1080, an 8gb card, still holds up at 60-144 fps at 1440p in most games, though you will have to compromise settings. The 4070 Super is also the antithesis of your argument, on sale for as low as $500 and being regularly available at $600, while outperforming everything at or below it's price point. The other issue is with trying to find budget cases with included fans. While it looks good on a list, most cases under ~80 have very loud fans, which you will need to replace anyway if you plan to put your PC on your desk. The only good, cheap fans I've found that also perform below 30DB are Arctic F12, which I measured at 26. A better recommendation would be to look at MicroATX cases and motherboards, which are often much cheaper than their ATX counterparts while compromising none of the performance as long as they have proper airflow.
Two years ago I would have agreed, but the writing is on the wall at this point. 8GB GPUs are going to be largely abandoned going forward for graphics intensive games. So it's time to upgrade if you're sitting on 8GB VRAM.
That hurts me in the part of me voting for the Intel underdog! Even though I have no reason to buy there gpu's having nearly 2 gen old GPU's that are stronger.
@@Slitshard man 8gb cards been on the market for more than 10 years already i still remember teh 290x 8gb model back in the day... consoles are bare minimum why should devs optimize for less than bare minimum? demand to nvidia greedy ass company to put more ram on their cards, vram modules are super cheap they dont because they want to artificially gimp products so you have to upgrade sooner, lame company, game devs are fine nvidia is not.
I'll get rid of my spinning drive once it dies. Built my system in 2017 and it was the first budget drive I could purchase. Every other component has been replaced for upgrades and failures, including multiple 2" drives and a couple M.2s that have failed, while the "fragile" HDD has survived packing in multiple house movings, being in suitcases in tens of flights, and finally me moving to another continent. It's an easy place to store emulators and games for those, downloaded movies, pictures, videos and lots of apps
All I am hearing is that unless you are ready to spend $3000 USD on a complete system, the devs and the hardware companies are consipring to ensure you a inferior experience to a game console.
Good news is that’s really not the case. You can have a fantastic gaming experience on a $550-$600 pc build. The smaller budget just means you want to be extra careful you’re picking the parts that will give you the best performance. Check out our latest Boost My Build video for example. We go over some great budget build options there
You must not have had a computer for awhile. You don't need top end hardware to beat a console. Computers also come with the bonus ability to do things other than play games, which adds way more value.
(rolls eyes) HDD haven't been for boot or game storage for quite some time now. They are for bulk storage of pictures and videos because many people will pack-rat every photo and video they ever took. They also make for nice backup storage to mirror SSD drives for quick recovery. Prices aren't even close to parity yet. I just bought an 8TB Seagate for $110. That much non-magnetic storage start at $600.
Except not many people have the money to pay $400+ to get into the 10-12GB VRAM level. Look at the steam hardware survey, the overwhelming number of GPUs are the low end/much older models.
For the PCI Express x8 on PCI Express Gen 3, you mentioned something incorrect: the 4060 Ti with 16 GB suffers. Instead, it's the 8 GB version that suffers a lot because the 16 GB version, having all that VRAM, always stays within the fast VRAM of the card, compensating for the performance limitations on PCI Express 3.0. The 4060 Ti with 16 GB performs very well, while the 8 GB version struggles significantly.
'8GB of VRAM is not enough going forward.' - Perhaps you should consider 3 factors. 1) The massive majority of PC users, do not buy the latest AAA games, so they don't need more than 8gb. 2) Looking at the most popular GPUs on the Steam survey, clearly shows that there are many under 8GB GPUs being used and that hasn't really changed much in recent years when more RAM has been available. 3) We are in a Recession/Cost of living crisis, so the majority of PC users don't have the money to spare on new cards (possible exception being the new Intel ARC cards, if the prices stay stable) and if the US does introduce the 20% import tax, that will get worse.
the b580 shortage has been a blessing in disguise. It doesn't seem to perform as well on low and even mid tier cpus with the overhead as performance starts dropping below a 9800x3d. In contrast, the 4060 remains consistent from a R5 5600 and above.
@@tradingnichols2255 Hardware Unboxed's most recent video shows further testing between b580 and 4060 across a number of cpus ranging from 9800x3d down to a 2600 and you can see the differences. on a 9800x3d, the b580 had a nice lead over the 4060, but on a 7600, the 4060 pulls ahead, and the lead got larger the lower the cpu you go
If have had a couple of SSD's go bad on me over the years resulting in complete data loss. That's never happened to me with a HD. So having one for convenient local storage is not a bad idea IMO.
Thank you Jason. Bought my laptop 15 years ago. Since my daughter is older and my job became more stable, i wanted to build a new pc. And i learned a lot from you this last 5 months.
You're so welcome! Happy to hear, so glad the channel has been helpful. Make sure to check out our How To Build A PC 2024 video when you're ready :) Good luck with the build!
That stress is caused by know-it-all "expert" youtubers who always want you to but the latest gear (sponsored by them). Just buy whatever is within your reach as lastest as possible and you'll be fine.
Never mind, right off the top I could tell your recommendations will be financially outrageous. No one has the money for the systems you say they should have.
Bought a rtx 4060 a while back (2023) and it worked fine until recently. Had to quickly buy a new gpu. Went with the rtx 4070ti 12gb since it was the only high-end card I could get that would not take 6 weeks to get to my house. Ill use this until the 5000s are tested and upgread to 20gb vram in 2026.
Jason! My dude. I just finished my first full PC build during the holidays. I watched your latest build guide about 10 times in a row… but I had no problems! Biggest issue I ran into was accidentally formatting my USB to ExFAT instead of FAT32. That caused my Windows install to fail a few times. Other than that, smooth sailing. In case anyone is curious: R7 9700x with a 7800xt. And now I’m making my former R5 5600x + 6700xt rig into a family gaming comp 😊 Happy New Year!
Hey that's great!! Congrats on the build! Show off a build pic if you like on bluesky/twitter/threads @pcbuilderjason. And I've been there on the formatting thing lol. If that's all that happened you really nailed it!
My next upgrade will be cpu ram and motherboard buti havent decided when iti wll do it . Latest upgeade was graphics card in 2021 and ssd in 2020 which is why the next ugprade must be cpu ram and motherboard since i have then since March 2017. However the pc is very fast it loads evrytrhing in 1 second(windows, internet, games programs) since i got mp 600 2tb ssd in 2020 and also runs all games maxed 1440p 60 fps since 2021 when i got rx 6700xt which means thwre is no reason to change cpu yet(and i can install windows 11 with rufus at any time).!
Avoid any PC case with tempered glass. Super heavy, breaks easily, costs too much. You can buy a full ATX case with 5 installed fans for ~$80 that has a plastic transparent view port that looks just as good.
Did you try Australia in the Influencer Dimension? HDDs are fine unless you're paid to influence people to buy SSDs. In the Influencer Dimension, you conflate generic storage needs with high-end gaming "needs," and lie about pricing. If you're in the Influencer Dimension. I'm not accusing anyone of anything here in our dimension, of course.
Lower storage NVMEs are pretty close. A 4tb NVMe is still a very high storage density for the size and hence is significantly more expensive. If you need 4tb of storage you have way too many games or likely don’t need that data at high speeds to hdd is fine. If you need more than 4tb at speed build a RAID.
I would absolutely love your advice with my potential 1st build. I have a good idea of what and how I want to build, but your energy feels so authentic. When I came across your video, It felt more natural to take your advice than that of others.
@@lanegeisewite1436 Because it sucks and most people are ignorant. Easy to figure out, unless you're one of those ignorant people. Appeals to popularity are bandwagon fallacies.
Also beware how PCIe lanes are allocated on some low and mid-range AM5 mainboards. Those with more than 2 x16 slots usually allocate just PCIe 3.0 x1 to all of the lower slots! That makes them useless for all but the most basic hardware, which isn't x16 anyway. Be sure to dig into the spec sheet or download the manual before buying a mainboard.
These GPU requirements are insane. My 3080ti and 4090, I still have to fiddle with settings, I esp thought a 4090 could do it all, having the two of top cards from the last gens and seeing how much vram matters lately. Nvidia needs to really up the vram game on mid and lower end market.
Or game developers need to stop being lazy and actually code for limited resources like every other developer in the past. Sometimes I think they don't even understand their code anymore. C++ was always hard to understand tbf. But damn.
As someone who is forced to upgrade my 8 year old pc this year because Microsoft doesn't think my i5-7600k can handle Windows 11, this is very helpful. Especially with my old 3060ti and eyeing up the Samsung SSD you specifically called out for being overkill for a gaming build!
@abhi.dx2345 SSD's are just too expensive to be the only storage used. I can buy a brand new 10TB hard drive for the price of a 4TB SSD. Yes the SSD is faster, but games these days are absolutely massive and fill an SSD drive quickly. Having a large disk to move unplayed games off the SSD is a nice option to have. Certainly nicer than having to buy multiple $200+ M.2 drives just for bulk storage.
bro just uploaded and already people spilling into the comment section. His new videos may not pop up on my feed as planned but always pops up at the right time🎉
12:20 the Problem here is that most people dont have more than 1 or 2 m2 slots and ontop of that depending on the Mainboard you might then lose some sata/pcie lanes... You could instead explain to beginners how to properly make use of the abundance of sata slots that see no use and apply that tip about SSDs that you mentioned here at 10:36 But then again there is the price which is most of the time almost the same as the NVMe variants...
B580 is definitely a wrong part. Low stock, broken drivers, and now it appears for more than just a few titles. Wonder how bad the OH is for A770, A580
I have an A770 and I rarely have driver issues. These cards are not as broken as you think they are, I forget I even have an Intel GPU sometimes because it's just that normal and stable.
Waiting for more testing but I will say I was pretty happy with the 7600X build I did with it. Going to say more about it as new data comes in for sure.
I am in the habit of buying graphics cards that are certified renewed, refurbished, etc. That's all I can afford in this kind of market. I'm very happy to see intel's battle mage hit the market. I'm hoping that will bring the prices down a little bit more. Thanks for covering the x8 and x16 connections. I keep old HDDs for backing up important files- externally. Thanks for the links, I've just upgraded the heck outta my PC and have enough parts leftover for the streaming PC to go with it. Also, I am now a new subscriber.
the moment he said b580 over 3080 i just stopped the vdo and came here to say this is a load of crap. 4060 outperforms 3060 in 1080p in every single way possible 99.9% of the time plus has like 33% less power consumption. only way you need more than 8gb vram in 1080p monitor is if your doing some ai projects or a heavy 3d rendering project or maybe video editing. False information in this video
so real. got a 4060 and it isn't really THAT BAD as they say. just your typical techtuber who's out of touch with the target audience of 4060 and not all PC gamers have the means to buy a gpu more than $300 considering import taxes.
I think its a little bit harsh to say that rtx 3080 its only meant for 1080p. I still playing on 3440x1440p monitor AAA games and have zero issues with limiting VRAM. Even on STALKER2 or Hogworts Legacy it runs perfectly smooth.
Movie libraries and data backups. It’s not a strange rare case use , it’s standard operations for the average person . I have 20tb on my pc , and my friends also have a lot . In 3rd world countries, sharing movies is standard practice due to limited download , cost of streamninf and also many services are blocked . I have 3TB m.2 for apps
I picked up an i5 14600k on a black friday deal, immediately updated the BIOS, and it's been working like a charm ever since. I know that's just been 1 month of usage and I can only speak for my own CPU, but if you're comfortable with updating BIOS and the price is right compared to what else is out there, I say a 13th or 14th gen intel is a valid option.
Yes its a great option 14600kf is cheap and perform very well. Don’t listen to tiktok kid or this men saying that we need a 9950x with RTX 6090 TI for having a barely good pc
2:39 The problem isnt 8gb vram, the problem is that games are unoptimized. and also the 4060, 3060ti, 3070, and 3080 all beat the 3060 despite having less vram (3060 has 12, 4060, 3060ti, and 3070 have 8, and 3080 has 10 - and many people play in 1440p on 3080 and the 3060 is not a 1440p card)
I'm not very knowledgeable about PC parts and I do spend quite a bit of time to learn and research but man this video is amazing! (maybe I'm a beginner) but there is so much useful information shared so fast. One of the most usefull videos I've watched recently. I got my PC with a 3060ti in 2021 and it was expensive as hell back then but at least now I know if I upgrade how much Vram I should be looking for.
So glad this was helpful! And it can be a lot I know so be patient with yourself. I actually started the channel when I came back to building after a break and wishes there was a channel to help catch me up on everything. You might want to watch our PC Parts Explained 2024 video for a good overview. The 2025 version is coming soon but its a good start
I went all-in from my existing am4 build to the B850 chipset (which apparently is literally X870's chipset, but for over half the price cheaper), with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and i tripled my performance compared to my ryzen 5 AM4 build, also not to forget to mention idle temps/watts usage is FAR LOWER than AM4, so it's also seemingly worth it to save power as well.. PC runs much cooler now.
SSD speed is just as important as anything else in my PC, if i could pay for instant load times, I would. Load screens can really reduce your fun and gameplay time by waiting for others to load in from one load screen to another or while playing solo. It may only be a couple or more seconds difference but multiply it by all the load screens in a three hour gaming session.
That has nothing to do with ssd speeds. Thr difference in nvme gen 3 and nvme gen 5 in loading times is miniscule. Even between sata and nvme gen 5 there isnt that much of a difference. Once you jump above hdd it becomes less and less important. Sure if gen 5 would save you a few seconds of loading times it might be worth it, but it doesnt even do that.
I wish people would stop putting 1000w psu on builds that only would pull 600-650w at max load 850w would be more than enough. 2 other things I see are over spending on AIO thinking they are superior to air tower coolers and then still having proprietary fan connections like Corsair and Thermaltake hubs
I still have 3 8TB Hard Drives with older games / bulk storage for like graphic design files and mods for games and everything. Only using about 4tb on each tho still have well over 3tb on each drive.
I have a SATA SSD for Windows, 2 NVME for games and one 4TB HDD for temporarily storing all the stolen games and shows I like before watching/playing/moving them to my external HDDs that act like my personal collection units. I can't even imagine having a PC without a HDD.
Good stuff. I'd recommend getting a fast reliable 2TB SSD to install the OS and games on, and a cheap 4TB SSD for data and videos. They should both cost about the same.

I got a budget for upgrading my PC for Christmas and it had been a few years since I actually paid attention to what hardware was good or bad so I went to the PC Part Picker website and picked out a build that someone else put together and did some customization choices of my own off that for specific brands I had faith in. After watching this video I see that everything I got in that build was a perfect pick for me because it avoided every single pitfall listed in this video and capitalized on the parts that were actually right for what I needed. Thanks for the confirmation that I got a good build!
hey man you'll prolly won't read this but thanks, I'm a newbie pc builder, spent all morning (like 3 hours) checking out reddit and stuff for information and in just 15 minutes you basically gave me all the info I need to not mess up my build. Thanks bro
Any affordable recommendations for replacing a RTX 3060 12gb? Not a gamer. Just some Blender work, and programming. If possible, looking to lower power consumption.
Sadly, no. There will never be another GPU like the RTX 3060 12GB, as it's becoming more and more likely that the RTX 5060 will only have 8 GB of VRAM.
Thanks from Australia for the great channel and information Jason. My son and I just finished our first ever gaming PC build and we think it is a bit of a beast given our budget. We reduced costs by following all your suggestions as well as picking up deals in the recent sales. CPU and PSU are possibly a little under spec, but we’re getting great FPS. Great job on explaining the Gen3/8x concerns for people and the half cached cpus after that. One note for those drop in upgraders depressed with this knowledge is if they are staying on a gen3 limited build then they could also shop for 16x cards like 3060/3060ti/6700/6700xt/6750xt that are in similar price ranges to the newer budget models like a 4060 on 8x.
It's a weird time because the cost for a new build is way better price to performance than in the past, but if you just want a GPU upgrade the cost is higher.
See our pinned comment and actually we just posted a comment to the channel page on this too. We were happy with the 7600X build we did with it but the testing on older CPUs with it is frustrating to say the least.

This is great, I fr went to micro circuit today with my friend who knows all about PC building. I went off his work on things to get. He must have watched your videos lol. Because I dropped $1300 today and was hoping I didn’t buy stuff u would say not to get, but instead I got everything u said TO GET. Rayzen 7700x, B650 elite, 2td NVME SSD, RTX 3069 w/ 12gb vram. 32gb ram. 850w power supply, NZXT H6 case, bucnch of RGB fans. And a kraken 240 cooler. Everything fits perfect in the case and had zero issues setting it all up.
I already built my computer from christmas, but good to know I made good part selections. The only thing I didn't know was that my mobo's 2nd SSD slot was PCIe Gen 3 and I installed a Gen 4 drive in it, but the system runs well for what I was aiming for. I do think that based on comments of the current intel CPUs, they are going to be avoided for a few years. It will be a bit of a pinch if AMD goes uncontested in CPUs, hopefully Intel gets back in the game sooner rather than later.
Biggest issue with SSDs is when they fail, they DIE. Least with a HDD, you get SOME level of warning that they're about to fail, usually with weird noises. When an SSD dies, you either can barely access your data, or it just ceases to exist, and there's almost no way to save anything. Now, SSD for STRICTLY games and OS, sure, stuff that can be easily replaced. But when it comes to reliable, long term storage, just stick to what works, use a HDD.

I wouldn't trade my 8gb 3070 for a b580

PCIe 4.0 barely makes a difference over PCIe 3.0. You shouldn't buy a whole new motherboard just for a PCIe. 4.0 slot.
Yes, more people need to see this.
It sure can make a difference when you run a PCI-e 4 x8 GPU with a 128bit bus on it. If you run a PCI-e 4 x16 256bit bus, not so much.
💯 it only matters if you are gonna get a 4k capable card if that... And at that point you probably aren't going budget on your Mobo or on anything!

Lifespan is still 100%
Whenever someone asks, I advice everyone to stay the hell away from the Samsung SSD's.
Hard Drives are still great for mass storage, for the same price as a 4TB NVME, you can get a hard drive that holds three times that.
For external storage that's literally just going to be cold storage sure! But you'll notice a major performance difference if you use a hardrive for internal storage over the other options.

about replacing cards there is really no need to change your card if it serves you for what you use it for unless you have the money and want a better experience sure swap the card for a better one.
Also what do you mean by Nvme ssds being almost as cheap as hard drives? 11:55
people with low to midrange builds still use hard drives because of their cheap cost with high storage capacity instead of paying 40-50 for a 1tb nvme drive you can probably get 2tbs if not more depends on where you live and price costs for me 1tb nvme costs as much as 4tb hdds.

@@markdash12 You misspelled Rebar support.
A better recommendation would be to look at MicroATX cases and motherboards, which are often much cheaper than their ATX counterparts while compromising none of the performance as long as they have proper airflow.
and avoid unoptimized games too
Two years ago I would have agreed, but the writing is on the wall at this point. 8GB GPUs are going to be largely abandoned going forward for graphics intensive games. So it's time to upgrade if you're sitting on 8GB VRAM.
That hurts me in the part of me voting for the Intel underdog! Even though I have no reason to buy there gpu's having nearly 2 gen old GPU's that are stronger.
even consoles wich are the bare minimum have more for gaming why you complaining?
@@nicane-9966 HOW is he complaining nobody should validate companies that make unoptimized games that should just be common principal tf????
Considering I'm still rocking Ryzen 7 1700 with a GTX 1050TI, I think this is a good vid for my upgrade guide.
Happy to help!
i still have ryzen 1700 since 2017 but with s 6700xt that i got in 2021!
Oh seriously! Didn't know! What do you mean by low or mid tier CPU's?
@@tradingnichols2255 Hardware Unboxed's most recent video shows further testing between b580 and 4060 across a number of cpus ranging from 9800x3d down to a 2600 and you can see the differences. on a 9800x3d, the b580 had a nice lead over the 4060, but on a 7600, the 4060 pulls ahead, and the lead got larger the lower the cpu you go
@@tradingnichols2255 Something like a Ryzen 7 5700x3d or below is getting much worse performance in 1080p with the b580 compared to a rtx 4060.
There had to be a catch!
@@ferrumregit4252 It is frustrating. After all, Intel advertised the B580 as a 1440p card.

Avoid any PC case with tempered glass. Super heavy, breaks easily, costs too much. You can buy a full ATX case with 5 installed fans for ~$80 that has a plastic transparent view port that looks just as good.
Were the hell are you finding NVME the same price/storage? Here in Australia a Gen3 4tb NVME is almost $340AUD. $152AUD for a HDD.
dont yall have a technology tax?

Hard drives also last longer. Store you important data there and back it up
@robertmusil1107 damn right you are
@abhi.dx2345 SSD's are just too expensive to be the only storage used.

12:20 the Problem here is that most people dont have more than 1 or 2 m2 slots and ontop of that depending on the Mainboard you might then lose some sata/pcie lanes...
You could instead explain to beginners how to properly make use of the abundance of sata slots that see no use and apply that tip about SSDs that you mentioned here at 10:36
But then again there is the price which is most of the time almost the same as the NVMe variants...

I know that's just been 1 month of usage and I can only speak for my own CPU, but if you're comfortable with updating BIOS and the price is right compared to what else is out there, I say a 13th or 14th gen intel is a valid option.

Can you send me the link to the 20tb ssd for around $250-300?
For real
Not all of us play FPS. play WoW and SSD speed matters a lot in it. Same as memory and CPU, less GPU tho it still matters.
UE5 becomes a stuttering mess without an SSD

Hey there, thanks for the video. I use my pc for multistream, gaming and some editing, what do you recommend getting for an extra ssd? The samsung or the more budget one? Also i have a b650 gaming plus wifi so i assume i can add a second ssd. Ty
Awesome video like always, really love your content, Jason! Your videos were what helped me to buy my current PC (I'd been out of the game for Many years so I had No idea where to start). Watching your videos in fall of 2024 led me to the 5800x3d/6700xt combo I'm currently enjoying. Just want to thank you for everything you do for the community, keep the content coming, you're one of the good ones!!!
Thank you so much Robert! This really means a lot to me. That's a nice combo you got there! So glad we could help and hope you keep enjoying the content
Congrats!
Here I am with a 1080ti that still has enough VRAM. What a card.
But...but Jason, I really want that flashy all aerospace-grade aluminum PC case....
Sometimes you just want to just buy a PC and forego all the headaches inherent in building one.
