The familiar feeling for me comes from the aesthetics of the photos. Reminding me of many places ive seen or been to through the 90s. The discomfort comes from the atmosphere and vacancy of of the locations. Being alone in most of these places would make me feel uncomfortable. Surprisingly, some felt soothing. Almost like the quiet and calm feeling you experience during a heavy yet calm snowfall in the dark of the evening hours. Streetlights and doorlamps illuminating the snow as it falls. Who would think that a randomly recommended UA-cam video of a slideshow with a Vaporwave backing track would illicit such a feeling of poetry . . . . *hits bong*
4:15 i had a dream in this place before. I bought my mom a book on history bc apparently in the dream she likes history, but when she opened the book to a certain page her eyes went wide and everyone in the room went drastically quiet. After a solid second she put the book down, left through the door in the picture, and then we couldn't find her anywhere. She left.
I had a dream in that place too. About 2 days ago. But in that dream everything was in much smaller room. And my teacher would order so many things to me that I eventually got really upset and decided to run away. When I was walking upstairs she was watching me and knew that I was escaping and when I looked back she was right behind me. And at the exact moment I woke up.
Well it feels like the hotel from Helsinki when I was there... Edit: I was watching a few more of these videos and now I realised... Some of them they are places that i've been in before.... And now I can't leave my house...
I might make a game of liminal space where you play as a person who has ptsd and has messed up memories and you have to unscramble them and he is stuck there but in his mind and it represents when he was a child he was in these places and he saw his friends but they moved on but he is stuck and is yet to move on
The music reminds me of when I was a kid in the 80's and going to the mall or department stores with my mom. The pics are nostalgic, soothing, and yet off and eerie and uncomfortable.
4:04 Thats my school, In Rye, NY. I saw it on Solar Sands video aswell, wonder how it left our school circle, let alone featured in these vids. Love this aesthetic!
I watched my first video on this an hour ago, and I've watched about 5. I feel like the ones with many colours and low quality are always the ones which freak me out. I've never been to any of them but they get always get me for some reason.
Each picture makes me feel like something terrible has or will happen, the strange uneasy feeling that something is watching, waiting, it knows you won't escape, all you can do is run, hearing only the sound of your own footsteps before you die. The music doesn't help.
thank you for making this video! vaporwave music almost perfectly matches the feelings I associate with these pictures, since they don’t really unsettle me but rather make me nostalgic c:
You know what scares me it’s the fact how there in a 23-31 year difference it feels like I’ve seen these places in some episodes of mr bean but I just can’t remember it. Some of these are scary because I’ve been to one of them. And the atmosphere around the place I’ve been was so eerie and creepy like someone was watching me.
1:02 looks like if you look to the opposite side, it goes on for almost forever until you see an office set up at the corner, it seems like there's light only in two corners, where these sofas are placed, and the other in the office area. It also seems like it's nighttime.
The reason why it feels unsettling is because you don't know if anyone would get in trouble for trespassing since there's no indication of some of the areas being private property.
It's this feeling of somewhat you feel nostalgic to a thing that you've never even experienced before. This videos gives me vibes of the empty places in the '90s, even though I wasn't born yet in the '90s. Feeling nostalgic to a thing that you've never experienced is called "Anemoia" btw.
The music eases me, its not that scary anymore. The bgm sounds like when u finish the final boss and these pictures may show up as the last place u walk too then rolls up the credits.

This is definitely not near where I live, but it got the same architecture as my mom's office. There should be a door in the corner right.
