Do They Know It's COVID? | Tom Powell (Band Aid Parody)

- At Christmas I usually release a silly Christmas parody - often with my esteemed colleague, George Shrapnell - poking fun at the government. That would be too easy this year, but with the good news about multiple vaccines right around the corner, and as we step tentatively out of lockdown, please remember to stay safe! We've waited an awful long time for this to be over, let's not put anyone at further risk just when we're starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel.
This time I've chosen Little Sprouts Health and Well-being as a cause which I'd love you to donate to if you enjoyed the video.
-- PLEASE DONATE --
Little Sprouts are a local charity with a very small team that supports local charities, Teesside families and pensioners with emergency food and toiletry hampers. Throughout COVID they have provided over 9000+ doorstep hampers. They also provide 60 daily hot meals to clients of supported housing. They collect supermarket surplus waste fruit and veg daily and add to their non perishable hampers. Prior to covid they educated children and families the value of nutrition and well-being in schools through cooking sessions. They also had bread making therapy sessions for adults with poor mental health, to gain confidence, meet new people and signpost with ongoing support.
If you can, please show your support for these local people making a huge difference

Beautiful track and the lyrics are very good well done
Thanks so much!
So you think rewording a great song with shoe horned lyrics that promote fear and telling people not to hug their mums will gain you views, disgusting. You'll be pleased to know I cant wrap my arms around my mum as she was put on end of life care in a carehome without even being tested and dnr signed all without consent and so she died alone. This is what is being done behind the propaganda to protect our elderly. You should be ashamed of yourself mate.Sit back and listen to the lyrics you've put out again when you've grown up :'(
Bah humbug
Hi Colette. Really sorry to hear about your mum, and not being able to hug her. I have similar circumstances on my family but won't go into personal details on a UA-cam comment feed.
Unfortunately, there are quite a few assumptions and inaccuracies in your comment.
Firstly, the song was never intended to attract viewers at the expense of anyone else. Quite to the contrary, this light parody was written as a fundraiser for a local foodbank charity which we released through Facebook, I then put it here more for storage than anything else (you'll notice this channel isn't large enough to make anything from ad spend or anything).
Secondly, there is nowhere in the song where I'm unduly promoting fear. If anything, I'm begging the general public to be safe over Christmas. I wrote this on December 2nd and we'd only recently heard the government proposals for Christmas - it seemed ludicrous to jump from a lockdown into 5 days of mixing. All scientists and politicians have now turned round and said exactly what I say in Verse 1 of this video. Keep mixing to a minimum, with minimal physical contact.
I've spent the last 10 months, amongst other things for my local community, putting entertainment packages together for care homes on a weekly basis - literally hundreds of compilation videos of local young people singing classics. Trying to improve the life of care home residents during this dreadful time when care home visits were at first impossible, and later scarce. I even did personalised videos for those who turned 100 during this time but were unable to celebrate with family due to Covid.
So you've understood the reason for including the lyric about mums. It's clearly a poignant one for both of us, and you'll notice that when I carefully "shoehorn" those lyrics, I've structured them in such a way that the song begins with the facts, with sentiment, and poignancy about those we've lost and for those who've lost jobs or been furloughed, followed by tributes to our NHS and Rashford, only allowing the song to descend into the true meaning of a parody in the final section.
I've listened and watched through again and there's nothing disgusting or to be ashamed of here. Just references that we can all relate to, after what has been a monumental year for us all.
To some degree I can understand how, to someone grieving, it might be more difficult to hear; but then again to others grieving it has provided welcome light relief and a smile. So I guess that's subjective.
I always take criticism on board, but as a "grown up" I don't think it's fair to be rude to one another when offering feedback. I always try to see from the other side, but this time I think you've got this one wrong. Though I appreciate your feelings are valid.
Wishing you all the best, I hope you can find some joy and humour in what is currently a very dark world, and again, sorry to hear of your loss.
@@TomPowellMusic Well eloquently said. I enjoyed the song, no way did I find any aspects of your lyrics offensive or insensitive. The person didn’t listened or read the words.
You should be ashamed of yourself. Bah humbug mate, bah humbug. I lost my grandad but that hasn't put me off it.
??? Somebody needs to learn how to spell.
what an odd comment
You what pal
