Smooth Buttery Slow Cooked Goodness! Anyone else refer to nice looking footage with an overwhelming amount of food-based comparisons? Just me? K. lol Enjoy Guys!
Pete thanks for the video, it would be so useful thought if, beside linking to Epidemic, you mentioned the actual song used, cause otherwise it's like searching for a needle in a haystack :(
I used your handheld tips last week for a shoot I did for a client!! The strap over the head technique worked PERFECT!! They went nuts with the outcome! I loved it too! Thanks for everything man!
Dear Peter Firstly thank you for being in my life. Thank you for making aspiring filmmakers' lives better by being on UA-cam. What propelled me to say this here was the fact that i uploaded a Vlog a few hours back and the same day you too upload a video! Keep inspiring Cheers :)
your just so inspiring! i cant even. your personality comes through full throttle, and your energy! i started to watch your channel for getting more info about photography, but you came to my full attention, even if its about film etc, something i know nothing about at all. I still love to watch anyway!! i get uber excited when a new video is released for you are so unique. I love hearing your words, techniques, and advice. It always brings me such great joy!
Honestly I have to agree with that, Thanks to youtube i Know How to use Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and adobe illustrator. UA-cam is the best
Awesome PETE! Always so inspiring and giving us the tools to get better at our craft. Thanks for the time, effort and fantastic content man. You actually motivated me to get my vlog started a few months ago, crazy what your knowledge has helped my videos. GRACIAS!!!
Like I honestly am a photographer and could really care less about videography, but you are so fun to watch and so genuine I love every bit of your content. Thank you! Seem like a great guy! Congrats on the success and keep it up! Edit: I'm now using square space after discovering it from your ads, if you're reading this and not sure about square space it's awesome!
Finally someone who I follow on UA-cam has used and loves the Rhino Slider! I've had it for over a year and it's a slider that totally gets overlooked by mostly everyone doing video and film. Glad you also love it as well Peter!
Just a tip; keep that squarespace plug pretty short (not sure if you can do this or not cause you might be under some contract) 1:28-2:32 is a bit too long, you'll lose interest this way, maybe try to keep plugs short and snappy like philip defranco,(15-30s) it's quick its over with but its informative and doesn't detract from the topic, as it stands it's a tad too long at 1 minute (to visualise that's 7% of your whole content).
I love your suggestion about having something in between the subject and the slider. I'm a sucker for foreground stuff. It's simple but makes a huge difference.
my only problem with all this is it's all so expensive. I'm just going to have to figure out a way to turn my hands into the most stabilized piece of equipment I own.
The cheapest mechanical gimbal I found (and I just bought) is about $12 equivalent It took a lot of work to balance (includes drilling to shift the weight to the left to be able to keep the camera on the center rail), but it's already a sweet improvement to handheld shots. shopee.ph/product/23304151/1128750780 Also, gorilla pods can go cheap. The sheer weight will help you stabilize it. In fact, any extension like a monopod you attach to your camera or phone will help. shopee.ph/product/74297655/1321541134
You, probably won't see this, but just wanted to let you know that you are the MAN. Thank you for all the insight, wisdom, and most importantly your character as you where raised well. Shout out to your MOM. Thank you my friend for all you do for our community. The insight you share wholeheartedly to make people better at their craft and continue to improve skills in videography a vital source as a revenue stream for many of us . Many thanks and blessing to you my friend. (After reading back what I wrote as I don't do this kinda thing EVER. I felt like I sounded like I should have been on Adam Sandler's the Zohan. LOL Whatever. Thank You!! Much appreciated. Oklahoma is learning and Growing because of you,
Pete, what's your opinion on the Lumix G7? I've always shot with Canon but this weekend I was given a LG7 for a private shoot... and honestly I dig it! I reviewed it, but the shots would be NOTHING without your advice, my dude!
JoshThom All you have to do is look up G7 short films and wedding videos and such. I switched from the T3i to the G85 and it's amazing! Peter most likely hasn't used the G7 or at least not extensively. But the G7 is one of the cheapest if not the cheapest 4K DSLR style camera. Video quality surpasses Canon by far, even the 1080! Also, the photo capabilities are amazing as well, however an APS-C camera might be better depending on your type of needs. But because of the IBIS the photos I get on the G85 are super sharp and sharper than what I took with the T3i. I'm a convert! I also use all panasonic lenses which are amazing
But remember whatever camera you get you can be either amazing or awful. Its your own skills not your cameras. But personally id go for the g7 or a6000. G7 moreso with the 25mm 1.7
Man, I not a filmmaker, i'm just learning photography for less than a year, but i love your videos and watch it all. There's something about your way of presenting things that motivates me! Thank you!
Love hearing your tips man. Hope you delve into showing everyone the cheapest items that will stabilize footage, or give vlogging tips, etc. it’s great hearing you and people like you sharing their knowledge
Peter could you talk a little bit about getting motion on post production!?! with 4k you have the option to scale down to 1080 and do so much. I'd love to hear your thoughts. I know it's kinda cheating but if it looks good who cares
As a newbie filmmaker, your channel is the one I watch the most. I have learned so much from watching your videos, for my next project the ending credits will have a 'Special Thank You to Peter McKinnon'. I'll screenshot it to show you I'm not kidding and it's my way of saying, well, THANK YOU!
You have one of the most amazing UA-cam channels on the internet! Thank you so much, I have been eagerly following your videos and studying them religiously! Keep doing what you're doing! Cheers from Egypt!
I love your enthusiasm that you bring to every video and dare I say a little jealous that you get to use all this amazing equipment that us mere mortals could only dream about owning. Oh, your LUTs are amazing by the way and thanks for all your great content.
Pete thanks for the video, it would be so useful thought if, beside linking to Epidemic, you mentioned the actual song used, cause otherwise it's like searching for a needle in a haystack :(
*Thinks rhino slider is cool, thinking about buying it and wants to check out how much it costs *Clicks link and opens Amazon *Sees price *Realises it costs more than camera and lenses combined *Closes tab
DUDE!!! I just stumbled upon this video and that Katana is a STELLAR idea! Super cool option that I've never seen before. You've been offering fire since the beginning, and I appreciate it Sir!
I found your channel yesterday and I can't stop watching your videos! You're so good! I know you probably won't read this but anyways, I really wanted to leave a comment because you inspired me so much in just a few hours. I feel like all I've been doing can be so much better! Thank you! 🇧🇷
Steve Captures if I can think of something remotely as catchy as that for my vlogs, I can die happy. Hahaha it's like a really really good hook in a song. You just never get tired of it! Lol
Hey man! This was REALLY helpful. I've had my camera for 2 months and I pulled out the camera strap, for the first time, out of it's box after this episode. And you were RIGHT! Buttery smooth panning shots. It's one of those things where you say to yourself, "Why haven't I thought of this before"? HA! Thanks again, man.
Always helpful all of your videos, thanks so much for pouring in the time and the EXTRA BUTTERY footage, man. Fellow Torontonian and really appreciate all the help! Keep it up!!!
3 Questions: 1. What lens are you using to record your vlogs? 2. How are you getting yourself in focus & the background blurred. Am I right to say that your f-stop is a huge factor? 3. How do you set your camera settings up to have yourself in focus but the moment you place something close to the lens it autofocus' on that then back to you when it's removed.
Emmanuel A. Neris I know you asked this 4 months ago but yes f stop is the biggest factor, you just set your cameras depth of field to where the object you want to record is and focus on it and the background will be out of focus. And also his lens autofocuses and changes based on what is placed in front of it. Most lenses have autofocus but the thing is you need to look for a silent motor lens or else you’ll hear it focusing every time.
I'm using the slider that DIY Perks worked out few years ago, on top... the Syrp Genie & Mini. I did copy that Ryno platform for the slider and the bigger attachments.
I thought the Mavic only has a 2 axis gimbal? You keep saying it has 3. But it probably works great in that frame because you have much more yaw control when doing it by hand instead of by thumb!
Oh heck yeah!!! Another reason to get the Mavic Pro!!! It's better than me carrying around my 80D around!! I love my Rhino slider and Arc.. they are killer Great video Peter!
Heyy Peter, one product which i really like is the slider from edelkrone, the got a new slider a vew weeks ago which is completly motorised and also has got a focus module, which allows you to keep the focus automatically on your facing objekt. And the controll of the slider is via mobile App.
Hey Pete .... I don't shoot video, but your enthusiasm for your art just bowls me over. I love watching your channel and the Art of Photography, and I think you beat Ted hands down on the enthusiasm front. But, don't tell Ted ..... only kidding Ted, you're great as well.
what I want is a thingy like the katana but has a camera on it with a gimble and some mild zoom capabilites that uses your phone as the screen. Maybe one day. better than a phone camera on a gimble.
Really enjoy these older videos! Still great value and great ideas 🤠 a lot of inspiration for new creators man! Thanks for sharing your mind with us 🤜🏻🙌🏻
another awesome video Pete! thanks for the super useful information and the shots as always look so good! might look into that Mavic handle, looks useful!
I almost never hit the like button, but your videos are spot on not only did I subscribe to your channel, I also find myself hitting that like button. Thank you for the great and informative content.
Wow ! Now tha Katona gadget is a great idea. I haven't got a drone (yet) but the idea of just using it hand-held was already in my mind for the superb quality. I do a lot of mountain walk filming and make those UA-cam videos mainly for the benefit of our club members. Ultimately they are a bit shaky (the videos not the members, although...) despite using an adapted hiking pole as a monopod dangling for stability, or even using my Gorillapod as a handle (which actually helps a bit). But your grip and drone combo would be my ideal I think if it is not too fish-eye for normal close-up group shots. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
I have a Glidecam HD2000 but it's too light for my C100mkii. I usually just shoot slo mo and use the grip of the C100 and a shoulder rig handle to get smooth results. That's what I did in my latest video. Warp Stabliser can help in Premiere Pro too!
Smooth Buttery Slow Cooked Goodness! Anyone else refer to nice looking footage with an overwhelming amount of food-based comparisons? Just me? K. lol Enjoy Guys!
Peter McKinnon for me, food is enjoyable and well done footage as well :) not only movies, but vlogs and short videos
Peter McKinnon can you please do more how to take better pictures with iPhone 7/ best tech for it to take better pictures
Peter McKinnon 1000$ slider 😱. make a video with cheap stuff for beginners please. Peace
Love your videos man ... thanks for sharing I bought a ronin m a month back and it is amazing ....but but sometimes my favorite shots are hand held.✌🏻
Seriously
Dude! Amazing! So glad you killed it!
Peter McKinnon is the happiest guy in youtube
He is always happy!
Ahahah couldn’t agree more, makes me jolly when I see him all «pumped up» XD
#1 reason why his channel is popular.
Dear Peter
Firstly thank you for being in my life. Thank you for making aspiring filmmakers' lives better by being on UA-cam.
What propelled me to say this here was the fact that i uploaded a Vlog a few hours back and the same day you too upload a video!
Keep inspiring

Thanks for the tips! I'm making a short film for my channel here soon. I've actually been using some of your LUTS for my vlogs as well.
Nice! Keep at it!
There are so many great resources here on UA-cam, it's hard NOT to get a great education. :)
Honestly I have to agree with that, Thanks to youtube i Know How to use Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and adobe illustrator. UA-cam is the best
Very cool man good luck!
Did anyone else watch that intro like 5 times? Absolutely beautiful, keep up the great videos Pete!
Man at 0:58 I was so ready for that base drop... then PHYCH
it hurt a little inside
LOL You know I was waiting for it too and then I ran out of footage and was like "awwwwww........bummer'
PETER 😁✌🏼Your awesome man I also had to say that!
do you happen to have the song name?
I agree so mucho!
Peter does so well at explaining things I keep on learning all the time ,who needs film/photography school.
The more I see the more I love your videos Pete you are amazing at what you do and keep it up you are gonna be at a million in no time
Awesome PETE! Always so inspiring and giving us the tools to get better at our craft. Thanks for the time, effort and fantastic content man. You actually motivated me to get my vlog started a few months ago, crazy what your knowledge has helped my videos. GRACIAS!!!

Peter McKinnon It is! It always comes in handy, thanks for reply 👌🏼 love your videos!

LOL this guy with the percentages lol.
7% is a small amount of time for Peter to get sponsorship for his content.
A little less gabbing and face shots, a little more product / hands on usage would be nice.
Rigo R.M same
Make a shoulder rig or something out of pvc...there are lots of ideas to go cheap on UA-cam.
Definitely pricy. Trying to learn things with a finite budget can most def be difficult.
Need something a bit more wallet friendly myself
Look at getting a glide cam (but a generic version of it) or a steady cam. They are physical gimbals and you can get them for under $100 on Amazon
Wow I'm improving my filming so much just watching your videos mate!!! Good job thanks
You're like an infinite resource of cinematic goodness! Always a pleasure to tune in.
You could get a Mavic and the handheld accessory for about the same as a Ronin haha
I'd love to see a vlog on your digital storage choices and which cards you chose to use, thanks in advance .
Peter could you talk a little bit about getting motion on post production!?! with 4k you have the option to scale down to 1080 and do so much. I'd love to hear your thoughts. I know it's kinda cheating but if it looks good who cares

In before someone makes a DSLR that runs Android OS.
I love your enthusiasm that you bring to every video and dare I say a little jealous that you get to use all this amazing equipment that us mere mortals could only dream about owning. Oh, your LUTs are amazing by the way and thanks for all your great content.
Pete thanks for the video, it would be so useful thought if, beside linking to Epidemic, you mentioned the actual song used, cause otherwise it's like searching for a needle in a haystack :(
hey, where can I find this song?
Thanks Pete. You put a smile on my face everytime I see your videos.
Looked up that Rhino slider straight after watching this, expecting it to be like £500 or something. £1,800.
Yep my thoughts exactly. I find it a little steep in price.
Lol!! Infingsane.
You are one of the few creators that I've actually hit the bell icon for on top of subscribing.
“Slide this Johnny around it” - Peter’s innuendos series 1.
The Zheyun Crane is AMAZING! I use it with my 70D to VLOG and its just amazing, switching to A6300 soon tho :)
*Thinks rhino slider is cool, thinking about buying it and wants to check out how much it costs

Thank you. Its creators like you that help us "smaller creator guys" get better ✌🏾👍🏿✌🏾
Gotta love that creamy slow mo... so buttery
DUDE!!! I just stumbled upon this video and that Katana is a STELLAR idea! Super cool option that I've never seen before. You've been offering fire since the beginning, and I appreciate it Sir!
first no-clickbait title on this channel. congrats
I found your channel yesterday and I can't stop watching your videos! You're so good! I know you probably won't read this but anyways, I really wanted to leave a comment because you inspired me so much in just a few hours. I feel like all I've been doing can be so much better! Thank you! 🇧🇷

Hey Pete any advice for young filmmakers
in every video he gives advice to young filmmakers: create.learn.repeat, just go out and shoot, enjoy the process,...you get the message?
Petes videos are the best thing since sliced bread
That slider looks legit. Similar functions to the Syrp but seems better built. Good stuff!
Went 6 AXIS on that like button.
Daaaaaayuumm!!
The hand-held drone is an amazing idea if you have a drone already! Really impressed!
Notification Squad Where you at?!
I love using the term "smooth buttery slow motion". Every time I use it someone gets a chuckle. Thanks Pete.
pfwwwhat's up!!😎
Steve Captures never gets old haha
Steve Captures if I can think of something remotely as catchy as that for my vlogs, I can die happy. Hahaha it's like a really really good hook in a song. You just never get tired of it! Lol

Well Hello Everyone. Hope you all have a nice day
YourTommy you too

So you have no budget but a 1500$ drone....?!
David that's what I want to know
haha still wondering!
@Peter McKinnon, Thank You so much for sharing all this precious information Sir, I'm learning a lot !

I love all your stuff, but the early videos were just sooooo good. Keep crushing it man
WTF im here so early.. it says 43 views and 64 likes! WTF
Jp Arcangel Wtf
3 Questions:

I HATE MID_VIDEO ADS---- MESSES UP THE WHOLE AWESOME VIDEO! - Love your stuff man!
Thank you so much for all the tips and lessons I have learnt from your channel it has helped me so much with my photography and filmmaking.
I'm using the slider that DIY Perks worked out few years ago, on top... the Syrp Genie & Mini. I did copy that Ryno platform for the slider and the bigger attachments.

Peter McKinnon=content ninja! Love how the Zero Tolerance pocket knife keeps reappearing. Love the channel!!! thank you
I own the Ronin M but check out Zhiyun Crane V2 - i just picked it up. It's a compact 3 axis gimbal.
Bell notification, like, comment, watch. Every time. Here we go!
Appreciate the video, informative with the talk and the sample shots.
I love my Rhino slider and Arc.. they are killer
Great video Peter!
Maybe the fact that it's small is good for something people that don't want a commercial size rig. Awesome video Peter, keep inspiring dude
Heyy Peter, one product which i really like is the slider from edelkrone, the got a new slider a vew weeks ago which is completly motorised and also has got a focus module, which allows you to keep the focus automatically on your facing objekt. And the controll of the slider is via mobile App.
Good info and practical demonstrations. Love your energy.
I often want to wear gray on gray but never feel good about it. Thanks Peter for giving me the confidence to go out and live my best life 😄
I have watched several of your videos and find them very helpful!! Thanks for doing what you do!!
Hey Pete .... I don't shoot video, but your enthusiasm for your art just bowls me over. I love watching your channel and the Art of Photography, and I think you beat Ted hands down on the enthusiasm front.
But, don't tell Ted ..... only kidding Ted, you're great as well.
I love Ted!
Thanks, Peter, for your videos! It's always motivating me!
Great stuff, I have actually stated using several of the tips here, and I am ordering the drone grip
Hey Peter!
Can you do a video on how to calibrate our monitor and how we should print our pictures
Love the shots!! 😍❤️❤️✌️ Thanks for the great content Pete! ❤️✌️

Great tip on the mavic grip. Definitely looking into that
another awesome video Pete! thanks for the super useful information and the shots as always look so good! might look into that Mavic handle, looks useful!
I use the Katana often. I just ordered the T grip to go with it, I feel one handle is much better. Thanks for the video
Discovered your channel last night, loving it mate, freakin awesome content and delivery. I'm learning heaps. Cheers.
