Lee Dorsey was a R&B, soul, funk singer from the 60's who sang "Workin in a Coal Mine" and also sang "Get Out Of My Life Woman", which coincidentally is a highly sampled song in hip hop; ok I googled that myself. Rod Carew was thought to have converted to judaism; though there's no solid evidence to support it, he was married to a Jewish woman(the Beasties are Jewish, though they never really rap about it). maybe I googled everything in this comment, but just to give you knowledge.

Loving my Badass Beastie boys!! Over thirty years now !! Obsessed!! These songs are embedded in my subconscious mind ive heard them so much. Never ever ever get sick of it . Legends .. I wish more people understood .
The Beastie Boys are in the top 5 hip hop groups of all time. I graduated high school in 1995 and the Beatie’s were on fire at that time. I’ll Communication and Check Your Head were being played at parties constantly. I had a epic party the night before senior ditch day and so many people showed up. We went through 7 kegs that night, which at that time period was epic for a high school party and When “Fight for your right “ came on chicks were jumping in the pool with their bra’s and panties and off course the fellas followed. At my graduation when we threw our caps in the air “Fight for your right came on” and the party started and continued that whole weekend. I showed up bombed for the graduation ceremony and so did most of my friends because we were parting prior to this. Oh great times
I only saw them once unfortunately and it was in 2003. There was no opening act on the ticket or bill. The show starts and for about 10 minutes or so they had all sorts of dogs doing tricks and jumping through hoops. This is in a 25,000 seat basketball arena. Following the dogs Talib Kweli played a short set and then the beastie boys followed to absolutely kill it for a couple hours. No other band did it like them with a mix of hard rock, hip-hop, instrumental music and they were real musicians who made and played those beats. Than you for the great content.
They was the shit. I grew up listening to them, that's when break dancing was big. It was in schools . I remember when they came to our school. Break dancers. Was with them. A girl I went to school with had cancer she wrote them a letter. She did beat it .❤. I t a lk to her all the time . I was in 6 grade. . That was along time ago..
Michael "Mike D" Diamond (vocals, drums), Adam "MCA" Yauch (vocals, bass) and Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz (vocals, guitar, programming). Like Zepplin, there was not a bad track or album. Ma Bell (Mother Bell) is what the huge company Bell Systems was dubbed (Alexander Graham Bell opened the first telephone system) which had basically a monopoly over the telecommunications systems in the US and Canada for a hundred and 3 years - until it was broken up by the antitrust breakup in the 80s. Ma Bell, got the ill communications. 🙂
Well, you say I'm twenty-something, then I should be slacking But I'm working harder than ever, and you could call it macking Some of the hottest lyrics ever
"Strictly hand-held is the style I go. Never rock the mic with the pantyhoes". He means when he raps it's live...no sound booth...no pop filter (use to use pantyhoes as a pop filter back in the day)....just grab the mic and go to tape.
A thing most people don't talk about; is their level of maturity; and not just as people. This only their fourth album. Their second since coming back. And their third since leaving Def Jam. Their oldest member was MCA; who had just turned; and they're light years ahead of where they were on License to Ill. As people and artists.
Its tough to catch all the references! Panty hose were used as a wind block in studios front of microphones, but since they are "strictly hand held", they don't use the standard set up in studios.
Vaughan Bode was an underground cartoonist in the 70s who did a lot of fantasy and science-fiction stuff and died pretty young. Cheech Wizard is his most famous character. The trippy Ralph Bakshi animated movie Wizards was based on Bode's work posthumously.
Almost every song is a hit ! Looking back , compared to now days ? Even they sleeper song kick ass !!! I guess i got desensitized to how great they was . I knew it then but i know it more now ! I realize , everybody bow down !
Favorite line "I'm like Vaughn Bode I'm a Cheech Wizard never quitting so won't you listen". Cheech Wizard was a very influential character in early graffiti. Beastie Boys know their shit. You can learn so much listening to their songs
Used to just put their albums on and blaze hard and chill. They are like Pink Floyd that way. Have a smoke (or several), recline and listen. Good ishhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Late to the birthday 🤓 but glad to subscribe. You get it. I was fortunate enough to see them live in Memphis in 1987. I was about to turn fifteen. Changed my life. I’m a professional piano player and singer in the panhandle of Florida. All I listened to for the next couple of years was Beastie Boys, The Cult, INXS, REM, U2, CROWDED HOUSE (FAVORITE). There is some great music in that genre from 1986 - 1990. Check some of if out. Okay gonna binge some of your reactions. A happy Florida “medical🌳👍” patient. Keep it up. ❤️
this track is from the best bb-vinyl "ill communication". one of my favourite alltime-records.it also contains "heart attack man" < a 2min punk-rock-song :-) but why? well, some people don't know that the band started in 1978 as a "Hardcore-Punk-Band" and were named „The Young Aborigines“ before they switchted to hip hop. On stage the BBs played their instruments like guitars, drums and stuff live!
Rod Carew is 1 of the 10 greatest hitters in baseball history. .328 lifetime batting average in a VERY pitcher dominant era. Think Ted Williams had him ranked in his top 3.
Another BANGER from Beastie Boys! Love this song so much. Their bars are 🔥🔥🔥. Also, at the end where MCA says "like Ma Bell I got the ill communication" the story behind Ma Bell is funny/cool. They reference her throughout the album on different tracks and it's worth reading about that reference. Also another fun fact, Spike Jonze who directed this video really wanted to shoot them inside the casino and the casino said NO so Spike hid a camera and they filmed it anyway. As always RIP MCA! You are loved and missed! 🙏🏾🙏🏾
I taught my nephew when I would ask "What time is it Jacob ???" He would answer "IT'S TIME TO GET ILL!!" My brother and his wife were not impressed!!! He still does it!! 🤣🤣🤣
Hey man, don't worry about those critics just yet. You're a growing channel, and you're killing it so far. You're gonna get the "picky" ones every now and then, but folks like me got your back. We just enjoy seeing you discover great music for the first time. As long as you keep it real, you'll do just fine. Let's get this man to 30k!
Love seeing your initial reaction when the beat kicks in. The main sample used here was HOWLIN FOR JUDY by JEREMY STEIG. check it out on youtube. Im that kid in the cornerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
8:38 Im using the Wax not the CD.... He is saying they still spin records. Old School style. They very first recording ever were made on Wax tubes... Were records made of wax? The short answer is that modern vinyl records are made of polyvinyl chloride, not from wax. However, there is such a thing as a wax record that is indeed made of wax. The wax record was a cylinder of wax used with phonographs and graphophones to record sound and play it back from the record.
Yhea they were stupid young when they started at cdgs like 15 or so played with Blondie the Ramones television and talking head's and changed to that fresh new thing
Right after this on Ill Communication is 'Tough Guy' - it's more of a deep cut and more of a punk rock song, but I think you'd enjoy all the basketball references. For reactions, I second Root Down and Alive.
Young Buck when he says I'll never rock the mic with a pantyhose.. means you ain't filtering his mouth him he'll curse if he has to. Educate to elevate

The bigger the catalog gets, the deeper I dive. I live by this rule and I don’t leave the pool.
The respecting women part was a reference to their first album. They grew up a bit and felt bad about all the bitches and hos lyrics from there. That's why he said it was long-overdue. This was the apology for that.
This is true, but it was also commentary on the trend of the day amongst most hip-hop artists that showed almost zero respect to any female unless they were a family member. I'm not judging, but most of the major acts at the time wouldn't refer to a female as anything but a bitch or a ho.
Also, from this point forward, they changed the lyrics of all those prior songs to remove the disrespectful bars when performing live.
you need to kick it "Root Down"

Root Down is probably my favorite video
pantyhose was that circular pop filter. It is a noise protection filter for microphones, typically used in a recording studio. It serves to reduce or eliminate popping sounds caused by the mechanical impact of fast-moving air on the microphone. There is a quick frame of it in the video right after MCA says it
Truth. Facts. Cheers Bryan!
and he's saying he only holds his own mic in his hand not letting it sit on a stand
I have wondered what that line meant forever. Thank u.

The pantyhose microphone wrapping thing... Some rappers were doing that to avoid accidental thumping when they were rapping. But elite rappers were so much in control, they used a raw microphone.
Truth. I was there. Cheers Hugo!
Its called a pop guard..and its a mesh screen that kills all hard sounds when singing or rapping...most artist use them when recording
Isn't it also to protect the high dollar mics from excess spit etc? I might be completely off but remember the "We Are the World" videos where everyone was pretty calm but still passionately singing.

Well, you say I'm twenty-something, then I should be slacking
But I'm working harder than ever, and you could call it macking
Some of the hottest lyrics ever
"Strictly hand-held is the style I go. Never rock the mic with the pantyhoes". He means when he raps it's live...no sound booth...no pop filter (use to use pantyhoes as a pop filter back in the day)....just grab the mic and go to tape.
A thing most people don't talk about; is their level of maturity; and not just as people. This only their fourth album. Their second since coming back. And their third since leaving Def Jam. Their oldest member was MCA; who had just turned; and they're light years ahead of where they were on License to Ill. As people and artists.
I love your music picks, I love your style and delivery. Subbing
I personally think they was the only ogs that kept it real hip hop all the way to the end
that sample from Moms Mabley is AWESOME...a comedian from way back...look up "Pipe Layin' Dan, Hell of a Man" soooo funny
yes sir!!!
Favorite line "I'm like Vaughn Bode I'm a Cheech Wizard never quitting so won't you listen". Cheech Wizard was a very influential character in early graffiti. Beastie Boys know their shit. You can learn so much listening to their songs
And all that... TO A FLUTE.
Rod Carew was inducted in the Baseball HOF in 1991.
Yeah !!! You gonna love this joint Swaggdawg ! Thank you ! You entertain me , much love , much success !
Used to just put their albums on and blaze hard and chill. They are like Pink Floyd that way. Have a smoke (or several), recline and listen. Good ishhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Swaggy check out Pass the Mic, Root Down or anything off Hello Nasty, "puttin shame in your game" is a favorite of mine even though it's not a single.
Keep it up. ❤️
Bro, love your respect for the Beastie Boys. I'm a fan of them since '86. Gonna be a fan of yours 4 life. Keep on keepin on.
this track is from the best bb-vinyl "ill communication". one of my favourite alltime-records.it also contains "heart attack man" < a 2min punk-rock-song :-) but why?
well, some people don't know that the band started in 1978 as a "Hardcore-Punk-Band" and were named „The Young Aborigines“ before they switchted to hip hop. On stage the BBs played their instruments like guitars, drums and stuff live!
Review Beastie's "An Open Letter to NYC"
Rod Carew is 1 of the 10 greatest hitters in baseball history.
.328 lifetime batting average in a VERY pitcher dominant era.
Think Ted Williams had him ranked in his top 3.
must say dude you’re one of the better reactors out there .. peace from Ireland
You're the best Swaggy!
Cuz ya can't,
ya wont,
and you don't stop...
Swag-gy gonna rock the sure shot 🎼🎶🎵
I taught my nephew when I would ask "What time is it Jacob ???" He would answer "IT'S TIME TO GET ILL!!" My brother and his wife were not impressed!!! He still does it!! 🤣🤣🤣
TRIPLE TROUBLE hella entertaining!!!
The New Style is a must of you're gonna keep up with the fashion
These guys are masters. RIP MCA. Adrock was always my favorite, but MCA was very talented.
Third, and dropped a huge 'nugget' in the live chat portion,, but unsure it that will still be veiwable, when SRT comes online ?
Anything from Paul's Boutique, Check Your Head and Ill Communication is a masterpiece!
Yaasss!! Great great content ⭐⭐⭐ Now, High Plains Drifter!!!
Kangol game!
This entire album was hot
10:03 mca "i keep my underwear up with a piece of elastic. I got this bullshit mic thats made outta plastic". 😂
Love seeing your initial reaction when the beat kicks in. The main sample used here was HOWLIN FOR JUDY by JEREMY STEIG. check it out on youtube.
Im that kid in the cornerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
"I got more action than my man John Woo and I mad hits like I was Rod Carew"
Shadrach is the best video, MCA painted every frame.
First rap song ever heard and felt in love with hip hop ,then came graffiti ,im almost 40and stiłl writin, freestylin and beat boxin✌
Just off the hip young buck, 4 +when I'm on the mic the suckers run... Check that one out family
Another great reaction my guy🔥🔥
Naaa Naaa - Swaggy is MY guy Bro !!! Cheers from NY Joe
Cheers from Houston Micah!!
Your reactions are the best bro
I'm back family, I dip in and out this s*** is hard brothern.
Yeah Alive or maybe Triple Trouble.
Yes the video for Triple Trouble is also great.
Young Buck when he says I'll never rock the mic with a pantyhose.. means you ain't filtering his mouth him he'll curse if he has to. Educate to elevate
Awesome jam yeah 🤘😆👍🎤🎤
Catalog.. They never wrote a weak track. Throw a dart at a wall and what ever track it hits is a hit.
Yep. Carew is HOF. That man could swat and rake.
I never Rock the mic with the pantyhose, and I could have put a buffer on his lyrics. Come on man..🐐
We love ya Swag. We explain cause we care :). Can't believe you ain't do this one til now. One of my favorites. Yea "Root Down" is next on the list.
Bought that shit when it came out.
Back in the day artist use to put pantyhose around the mic to prevent wind and other noise issues recording. That's some do it yourself shit. Haha
Listen bro he put chocolate milk on the map yoohoo don't worry about what we think it's about what you think we already know
Come on man let's goooooo👊👊👊🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
3 mcs and one dj extended version;.
show the women respect to the END!!!!
Next Song Should Be:
BEASTIE BOYS - SLOW & LOW
or
BEASTIE BOYS - RIGHT RIGHT NOW NOW
