    Gotta mention he’s nearly 4 hours into this concert. Most vocalists would’ve expired long before this and 40 years of marathon shows and he hasn’t blown out his voice he’s a beast

    Springsteen's strengths are as a songwriter, a storyteller, and a performer, not necessarily as a singer. Going to one of his shows is not just being taken to church, it's a revival. It's the energy, the music, the stories.
    Everyone else remembers "Twinkle Twinkle" or "Mary Had a Little Lamb" as their first songs, and I remember Born in the USA.

      Often the arm chair vocal critics are ignorant and think to be classed as a being able to sing is to hit the impressive high money notes and being technically pitch perfect and yes Bruce was never one of these type of singers. However singing is much more than that....it is also about producing a FEEL to what you sing and making people FEEL what you FEEL. Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits (whose pitch aren't that great either) and many more not considered prowess vocalists can't sing by those standards either but their FEEL is massively musical and emotional with a great connection to the lyrics they sing. Even Justin Bieber is said by those people to not being able to sing but honestly do you really think it makes any sense to sell millions and millions of records if they truly cannot sing??? If it was that easy then wouldn't it be the case that any random person who can hold a tune will be able to be international selling artists?

    • @KevinsDisobedience
      @KevinsDisobedience 4 роки тому +4

      I’d say he’s in the Bob Dylan, Kurt Cobain category of singers-more emotion than natural talent, but such a unique voice you either love it or hate it. I love all three so no complaints from me.

    • @daflotsam
      @daflotsam 4 роки тому +3

      I found some folks saying that about his voice when Born in the USA came out, because the feel of that song calls for a more primal "scream"; and since that song was so popular at the time you heard it a lot on the radio and some associated that as his main singing style. But so much of his catalog is not that style.

    • @nonamemusic8328
      @nonamemusic8328 4 роки тому

      When people say that, it's pure technical. Bob Dylan and Thom York are good examples. Both not good singers (technically) but holy fuck, the emotion, the tone, the performance, the personality, the songwriting and all that stuff are top tier.

    Put him in a nice old wooden pub and get him to sing a set. Then you will understand what his voice is all about. It's one of the most beautiful story telling voices ever, second to Bob Dylan of course, who also can't sing. I wish I could sing a story as bad as they can. Of course Bruce wrote the lyrics as well so it's comes deep from within his soul.

    First you did my favorite bands such as Soundgarden/ Chris Cornell, Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Now you have done my favorite musician ever. His voice is not for everyone but I'm so happy you did a review. His late 70s/early 80s vocal style is my favorite era for his voice. Songs like I'm on Fire or Streets of Fire or Badlands are great examples of this era!

    One thing Bruce is really good at IMO are his long belting notes. He does sound like he's shouting a lot, but he's able to keep up their strength right until the end, and the shouting works for his style.

    Nice to see you take a look at Bruce.
    He does have a few songs he seems to shout more than sing, especially live (Seeds or Born ni the USA, for instance) but I do think he's unfairly derided for being a bad singer. His vocal style has changed hugely over time - he tries a lot of different things with the register that he has.
    He indicated in his autobiography that he always was very aware of musicians who had better voices than him (citing Rod Stewart and John Fogerty) and in the early days I suspect he may also have compared himself to local buddy Southside Johnny, who has a really great soul voice. At any rate, his 110% live drive comes in part from compensating for the fact that he simply can't sing like Roy Orbison or play guitar like Hendrix. Instead he wrote the best songs he could (and was selective about which of them to actually release) and he went above and beyond onstage for 1001 nights and more.

    I’m pretty sure the only person in the world that I’d help cover up a murder for is Little Steven. Not that I’ll ever have to. Steven Van Zandt has essentially been radiating pure joy wherever he goes for well over 5 decades now. Easily in top 10 humans my home state of Massachusetts ever produced. ...maybe Macaulay Culkin. Not for any weird super fandom or anything. Seems like a cool interesting guy and all, but the world doesn’t need to know if Mac actually caught the murder bug after kicking Joe Pesci’s ass in Home Alone.

    It's a shame they're a bunch of sticklers when it comes to copyright, but it would be so cool if you took a look at/listen to the harmonies from seven bridges road by the Eagles

    I’ve been a huge Bruce fan since 1975 but I have never liked this song. It was one of first or second only written to be a top 40 hit, but his record label pushed him on this. He is so fun in concert, his audience participation is like NONE others, it does help make it fun. But CLUTCH YOUR PEARLS…listen to this cover from TheVoice. First time I’ve ever liked it!
