I almost wasted a hundred bucks on a fuel line disconnect tool set, but even the guys selling those won't put up a simple video telling how their tool functions. I almost broke my clip, but I ended up leaving it connected and just swinging the intake to the side to get the job done, but it's been bugging me ever since! Thanks for the information. I did already order a box of those clips anticipating problems the next time, but the strange thing is, that the clips in question here are listed on the box for GM and Ford, yet I'm working on a 2015 Jeep 3.6 Liter V6 and it has those very clips.
Hey, I just happened to think. I did go online looking for the clips and I had found the ones on amazon that you had listed also. So I got those ordered for next time in case I need them. That first clip that came off, though, I never really found a source for those, and I just worry about dropping one of those and losing it, so if you know a source for those, I'd appreciate finding out. Could probably do without it I guess, if it came to that.
Ty Pete I have to change the fuel pump in a 2007 jeep commander and decided to cut a access panel above ..I went and bought a disconnect set I guess I don't need them now! Ty
Knowledge is power. Thanks for showing the proper way to remove the lines. Most fittings under the hood these days are designed to be broken by mechanics that just don't know how to remove them; let alone the DIY's. And dealers won't just sell you the clips, they'll want to sell you the whole enchilada. Thanks to you and UA-cam !
But often doesn't work under vehicles on evap when dirt & gravel gets behind the clips which prevents them from being depressed. Would love to get my hands around the necks of some of these engineers
I want to wager whoever published the first few DIY vids on removing the fuel line on the Ford fuel filters was a Dorman employee trying to sell more clips. Every single DIY vid on this website for doing fuel filters you see someone breaking the clip
You just saved many people a whole lotta time, frustration and money, is not for the small clip purchase only but for all the gas spend driving around sesrching for the correct one.
Been wrenching a long time and those type of clips are always a pain in the arse. Thanks for admitted your own "stupidity". You just saved a lot of us suffering from the same case of the dumb from ever having to admit it.
You are a flipping lifesaver. Thanks to you, I don't need new fuel lines in addition to my new pump! Car is fixed and your video was the final thing I needed. Thank you!!!
The problem is that these 'quick connects' are usually in a horrible position to 'push down' on them further when on the vehicle itself. So the better mechanism would be "Go back to the stuff that worked before!" and phase out these quick connects.
@@FirieonOG I've worked on a lot of stuff. Mostly old and racecars. Never had a hose clamp get stuck. Whether the video was helpful or not, thanks for watching and commenting 🍻
Same principle for all quick disconnects, forward tension...Thanks for the great tip; it will save us all the frustration of getting it on and off by design.
OMG, those devious bastards! Just when you think you have mastered every disconnect, (fluid, electrical), they come up with this! It would be neat if they included instruction on their disconnects in the manual or better yet,how about a couple of samples.
Wow. Ford made that pretty common knowledge years ago. I didnt realize people were breaking these. All spring clip fittings have to be pushed in to release. All of the tools used to release every other fitting has you push the tool in and push down on the fitting then pull off. Amazing what one views as common knowledge isnt so common. Explains all the zipties I find to replace the clip.
When I started my current job. They had a bag of those clips, because they were doing the same thing until I showed them the correct way. They said same thing you said when showed them. We never touched that bag again.
Thank you so much. Ive been fighting with this line on the fuel pump for 10 minutes. This took like 30 seconds to figure out and do. Will definitely save me time and not breaking them in the future.
OMG! Thank you, thank you! I was trying to get the hoses of an evap canister that had this style connector. I started down the path of trying to pry the clamp out with a screwdriver and then felt it wasn't going to work. Scoured the internet for a while before I found your video, and sure enough - easy as pie the way you showed it!! Thank you for helping me avoid the broken clip route!!!!
Thank you!! No one seems to show how to do this in videos related to fuel lines. Us plebeians have had to try and figure it out ourselves... I'm trying to swap out the fuel sending unit in a Jeep right now, and I'm not about to brute for this thing off x_x
You never get too old to learn. I consider myself a very experienced mechanic, and I still learn something very important occasionally. And, yes I've broken my share of those clips.
dropping a fuel tank....same problem with the connector on the fuel lines......cant wait untill tomarrow to try this........excellent video....thank you.
When they are very difficult use a pair of needle nose vise grips. They work extremely well with the non movable leg on the flat portion oh the connector and movable leg applying pressure to the white movable clip. You will be impressed. I was
DAMN! I'm sure glad I watched your video! Actually, I knew this trick to remove the vacuum line quick connects BUT, because I rarely need to remove quick connects and it had been a while, I had forgotten. DUMB! No excuses! Just forgot. Thanks for renewing the memory. I'll bet I don't forget again...maybe. Thanks again.
I have done the same thing to. We are trying to get to the problem and get it fixed so we're rushing through the small things not paying attention to the small details. So don't feel embarrassed 🤘✌️
JEESH! I too am an idiot. But now I'm a grateful idiot. The last line to remove from gas tank is now going to be a breeze. I am contemplating if to spray a cleaner first as dirt accumulated 225k miles. Thank you, thank you, thank you (because hitting the like button only works once).
Sadly, although many of the people who saw this and "get it" as the comments clearly indicate was happening...... there are those of us who got our hopes up only to try this technique out and go 4 for 4 in 6 minutes breaking every one that I touched.
Hello Pete, Like all the others - Thank you!!! I've been looking everywhere for this and ironically many other videos show the wrong way - or breaking it. Question: On the example you showed - Do you have to remove the red outer clip off 1st,,,,and then press the housing down to press inside clip in? Hope I'm making sense? and thanks in advance. Regards, Jack
Well now this is just weird because yesterday I broke one and I'm wondering how this video popped up on my feed because I said nothing about breaking it That is really strange I mean super freaking strange
I have to thank you again. I had been wrestling for seemingly hours today trying to get 2 lines off my Ford Ranger fuel pump. you are a blessing to the auto world!
Wished I saw this 3 yrs ago doing a honda vapor canister redo! Figured it out with shadetree cuz assist lol! Excellent discovery and revelatory vid bro! Peace out!
Thank you man! Was not easy to find how to do this since I didn't knew what the hose was for! I was guessing vacuum hose because it's mounted on top of my V8's driver side valve cover.
I replaced fuel injectors on my 2003 Lesabre 3800 the other day. The fuel inlet is just like the white clip. I got lucky and it didn't break when I used my pick to pull it out the back. At least I know now and it didn't cost me either. Thank you.
Except that penetrating lube will degrade the plastic. Just don’t. Use some soapy water on em if u need some lube w plastic don’t use petrochemical stuff on it.
@@michaelbenoit248 it also makes the plastic shiny. Just kidding. I usually wash it down after I get it put back together, to neutralize the petroleums.
Seven years of cursing this design and breaking clips I finally look this up and immediately try it THANK YOU I feel like such a fool! 😂

What to do if you broke it⁉️
I have great respect for people that can admit we never stop learning no matter what age we are.
Thanks for the great info
Hell yeah was stuck on the same thing bro
The zip tie to the rescue. I used it on my 6.7 diesel fuel return line. Been on it for 2 years now. 😅
I've broke these clips more times than I can count and have to keep them with my fuel line repair kit. Appreciate it 🙏 💯 🙌
They break because they are hard and brittle.
This has to be one of the most useful videos I have ever watched. .Thanks for sharing and, please just keep em coming. THANK YOU **************

Ah, but the lowest skill worker on the assembly line can put it on quickly, even with a blindfold. That is the key.
They normally are not that bad if you work on cars …. Honestly easier than using a disconnect line tool on non quick disconnect lines

horsewhip the engineers....this is just another example of overly complex automotive engineering.
Yeah but it takes the guy on the assembly line a fraction of a second compared to a hose clamp 🥴
He said horsewhip because he got his ass kicked by a piece of plastic 😂😂😂😂
Thank You So Much! for the Video on how to remove the evap an fuel lines!
Now I Know How! 😃
It fucken works thanks

Squirt of silicone always helps and another squirt when reinstalling too! 👍

We use a silicone spray 1st and move the union up and down to let the lube seep in.
They always come out without breaking ✅
Yes and maybe some shop air to clear out debris.
Thanks you just save me from breaking clips. All the way from South Africa,Cape town (the mother city)
That's the crappiest design for connector I have ever seen
Thanks for sharing an important tip. I have learnt something new.
Brilliant! Thank you for sharing.

Well after 4 broken clips, I found this video! For next time! Thank you!
A thin flat wrench to go over the locking clip snuggly, and a medium sized flat screwdriver to lightly wedge the pipe of works every time for me.

Excellent video, I’m off to see if this works on a 2012 Kia Forte canister. Wish me luck.
I’ve gotten so frustrated with these 😂 even tried searching for how to properly remove them because I knew there had to be a way! Thank you!!!
I always break those tabs. The fuel filter uses them too. All I can say is..."DUH?".
Well now this is just weird because yesterday I broke one and I'm wondering how this video popped up on my feed because I said nothing about breaking it That is really strange I mean super freaking strange
Can you please turn down the music. Why are you talking and music playing.

THANKSSS !!!! You saved me had been trying to get it out
Now I am realizing I need to figure out which had white and black clips. Does it matter? Is it an idiot proof only one color fits?
Dont worry. The new Ford lines are just suppose to be cut off and have you replace the entire hose. Easy

Thank you so much for this information delivered so simple! ❤
I used a pliers with curved nose if I could say, it helped me to push it down.very useful in tight spaces
that is correct . push first then pull and this is for all quick connectors . good video .
Thanks! It's definitely not immediately obvious. To pull off, first push on 😆
next time leave the sickening music off , I couldn't hear a damn thing
Nice video. Don't be hard on yourself. Many of us have done the same damn thing.
Only a REAL man can admit his mistakes and learn from them 👏👏
They don't teach you this in mechanic school?
Fkkkk ive been sweating removing those. Thanks for the videos
All I ever mess with that little c clamp alway was a pull out so how I get around the broke legs anyone know.
I should have watched this video first. I had to order a new $47 hose.
the same with many types of electric connectors in all cars push first
Are these kind of quick connect has a dual shutoff feature?
Good job 👍
Thank you 🎉
Cheers 🥂
You just saved me from breaking mine
Another thing i do is spray penetrating lube on all quick release clips. That helps with tough & dirty clips. Works like a charm
I do that too. Makes it so much easier. I use it on those 4 wheeler clips that hold the plastic trim on the fenders,
Except that penetrating lube will degrade the plastic. Just don’t. Use some soapy water on em if u need some lube w plastic don’t use petrochemical stuff on it.

Shit ! Your not alone 😭. I've done the same thing to in the beginning
I think Subaru uses something similar on their fuel lines
Cummins actually have a special tool for that.
I think just lile you busted alot of clips
You saved me today. Thank you
Thank you! Broke them all:(

Volvo uses these on all the fuel lines.
thanks for making this.
If I could hug you I would. 😂
