Knowledge is power. Thanks for showing the proper way to remove the lines. Most fittings under the hood these days are designed to be broken by mechanics that just don't know how to remove them; let alone the DIY's. And dealers won't just sell you the clips, they'll want to sell you the whole enchilada. Thanks to you and UA-cam !
You just saved many people a whole lotta time, frustration and money, is not for the small clip purchase only but for all the gas spend driving around sesrching for the correct one.
I have to thank you again. I had been wrestling for seemingly hours today trying to get 2 lines off my Ford Ranger fuel pump. you are a blessing to the auto world!
You are a flipping lifesaver. Thanks to you, I don't need new fuel lines in addition to my new pump! Car is fixed and your video was the final thing I needed. Thank you!!!
You never get too old to learn. I consider myself a very experienced mechanic, and I still learn something very important occasionally. And, yes I've broken my share of those clips.
I Appreciate the video. We were stuck with the gas tank halfway down hanging on by the fuel lines. We were on our backs in the driveway with barely any maneurability. Frustration started to creep in until i saw your video. Thank you for posting.👍🏽
Same principle for all quick disconnects, forward tension...Thanks for the great tip; it will save us all the frustration of getting it on and off by design.
OMG! Thank you, thank you! I was trying to get the hoses of an evap canister that had this style connector. I started down the path of trying to pry the clamp out with a screwdriver and then felt it wasn't going to work. Scoured the internet for a while before I found your video, and sure enough - easy as pie the way you showed it!! Thank you for helping me avoid the broken clip route!!!!
Thank you so much. Ive been fighting with this line on the fuel pump for 10 minutes. This took like 30 seconds to figure out and do. Will definitely save me time and not breaking them in the future.
Been wrenching a long time and those type of clips are always a pain in the arse. Thanks for admitted your own "stupidity". You just saved a lot of us suffering from the same case of the dumb from ever having to admit it.
Cant believe I waited so long!!!- decades... Could not have gotten the fuel pump out without this... can't believe, all these other videos did not mention this...or my father who knows everthing...
Thank you! This is probably why every single video I’ve tried to watch replacing a vac pump on an ecoboost just happens to skip removal of the vac line. Thank you! I knew for sure I wasn’t doing it right so didn’t continue to pull the horshoe looking white clip out, that was the direction I was going too.
Thanks for such a clear concise explanation! Just went through this myself after working on cars for 45 years and still picking up great tips from others!
I replaced fuel injectors on my 2003 Lesabre 3800 the other day. The fuel inlet is just like the white clip. I got lucky and it didn't break when I used my pick to pull it out the back. At least I know now and it didn't cost me either. Thank you.
dropping a fuel tank....same problem with the connector on the fuel lines......cant wait untill tomarrow to try this........excellent video....thank you.
I almost wasted a hundred bucks on a fuel line disconnect tool set, but even the guys selling those won't put up a simple video telling how their tool functions. I almost broke my clip, but I ended up leaving it connected and just swinging the intake to the side to get the job done, but it's been bugging me ever since! Thanks for the information. I did already order a box of those clips anticipating problems the next time, but the strange thing is, that the clips in question here are listed on the box for GM and Ford, yet I'm working on a 2015 Jeep 3.6 Liter V6 and it has those very clips.
Hey, I just happened to think. I did go online looking for the clips and I had found the ones on amazon that you had listed also. So I got those ordered for next time in case I need them. That first clip that came off, though, I never really found a source for those, and I just worry about dropping one of those and losing it, so if you know a source for those, I'd appreciate finding out. Could probably do without it I guess, if it came to that.
I have done the same thing to. We are trying to get to the problem and get it fixed so we're rushing through the small things not paying attention to the small details. So don't feel embarrassed 🤘✌️
I ended up removing the injectors from the manifold, now way this little bugger would come loose. Thanx for showing. There is even an special wrench for this.
Exactly what happened to me with our ‘19 Chrysler Pacifica when I had to replace its Oil Cooler. Imo these Dodge/Chrysler clips are rather counterintuitive as they defeat the purpose of an “easy to remove clip”.. Even when applying pressure in the right area of the clip they still won’t come out and/or sometimes break. These clips are in fuel lines, vacuum lines, injectors, EGR pipe, etc.. Thank you for the zip tie tip at the end of the video, I didn’t know that!
When I started my current job. They had a bag of those clips, because they were doing the same thing until I showed them the correct way. They said same thing you said when showed them. We never touched that bag again.
DAMN! I'm sure glad I watched your video! Actually, I knew this trick to remove the vacuum line quick connects BUT, because I rarely need to remove quick connects and it had been a while, I had forgotten. DUMB! No excuses! Just forgot. Thanks for renewing the memory. I'll bet I don't forget again...maybe. Thanks again.
Thank you!! No one seems to show how to do this in videos related to fuel lines. Us plebeians have had to try and figure it out ourselves... I'm trying to swap out the fuel sending unit in a Jeep right now, and I'm not about to brute for this thing off x_x
Wished I saw this 3 yrs ago doing a honda vapor canister redo! Figured it out with shadetree cuz assist lol! Excellent discovery and revelatory vid bro! Peace out!
When they are very difficult use a pair of needle nose vise grips. They work extremely well with the non movable leg on the flat portion oh the connector and movable leg applying pressure to the white movable clip. You will be impressed. I was
Thank you man! Was not easy to find how to do this since I didn't knew what the hose was for! I was guessing vacuum hose because it's mounted on top of my V8's driver side valve cover.
THANK YOU for this video! This worked for my Hyundai Sonata in tank fuel evap line I could not get it off my fuel pump until I followed this method (even after watching mechanics on other videos fight to get it off saying how tricky it is - not tricky at all if you know how!)
Ty Pete I have to change the fuel pump in a 2007 jeep commander and decided to cut a access panel above ..I went and bought a disconnect set I guess I don't need them now! Ty
The problem is that these 'quick connects' are usually in a horrible position to 'push down' on them further when on the vehicle itself. So the better mechanism would be "Go back to the stuff that worked before!" and phase out these quick connects.
@@FirieonOG I've worked on a lot of stuff. Mostly old and racecars. Never had a hose clamp get stuck. Whether the video was helpful or not, thanks for watching and commenting 🍻
I want to wager whoever published the first few DIY vids on removing the fuel line on the Ford fuel filters was a Dorman employee trying to sell more clips. Every single DIY vid on this website for doing fuel filters you see someone breaking the clip
Wow. Ford made that pretty common knowledge years ago. I didnt realize people were breaking these. All spring clip fittings have to be pushed in to release. All of the tools used to release every other fitting has you push the tool in and push down on the fitting then pull off. Amazing what one views as common knowledge isnt so common. Explains all the zipties I find to replace the clip.
Hello Pete, Like all the others - Thank you!!! I've been looking everywhere for this and ironically many other videos show the wrong way - or breaking it. Question: On the example you showed - Do you have to remove the red outer clip off 1st,,,,and then press the housing down to press inside clip in? Hope I'm making sense? and thanks in advance. Except that penetrating lube will degrade the plastic. Just don’t. Use some soapy water on em if u need some lube w plastic don’t use petrochemical stuff on it.
@@michaelbenoit248 it also makes the plastic shiny. Just kidding. I usually wash it down after I get it put back together, to neutralize the petroleums.
JEESH! I too am an idiot. But now I'm a grateful idiot. The last line to remove from gas tank is now going to be a breeze. I am contemplating if to spray a cleaner first as dirt accumulated 225k miles. Thank you, thank you, thank you (because hitting the like button only works once).
OMG, those devious bastards! Just when you think you have mastered every disconnect, (fluid, electrical), they come up with this! It would be neat if they included instruction on their disconnects in the manual or better yet,how about a couple of samples.
But often doesn't work under vehicles on evap when dirt & gravel gets behind the clips which prevents them from being depressed. Would love to get my hands around the necks of some of these engineers
I have great respect for people that can admit we never stop learning no matter what age we are.
Thanks for the great info
Seven years of cursing this design and breaking clips I finally look this up and immediately try it THANK YOU I feel like such a fool! 😂
Same. At this point to me they were just a disposable part basically. Lol

They break because they are hard and brittle.

A thin flat wrench to go over the locking clip snuggly, and a medium sized flat screwdriver to lightly wedge the pipe of works every time for me.

that is correct . push first then pull and this is for all quick connectors . good video .
