Using techniques gleaned from the legend himself, I show you how to fill a wall with Bob Ross style mountains to achieve an ombre wall effect using just two colors.
This is an excellent tutorial. The advice about painting the mist and getting the look of trees is exactly what I've been looking for. Incredible teaching here!
Thank you so much! I tried this today for my son's room, and I feel so talented cuz it came out so well 😂 I wish I knew how to attach a pic on the comments
When I discovered this and knew it was for me. In the end I really enjoyed this, despite making many mistakes. The ratio of about 2wide : 1high and sufficient distance to stand back were important. I also saw how important ratios and colour enhance perspective. Other mistakes include: running from
That's it? Great job and fantastic explanation. I'm always mixing artist paints with house paints too so it was nice to see you do it too so I don't feel so silly. I have one problem. It's my first question... That's it? I wanted more and checked your channel but you didn't have any other paintings. bummer. lol. I am happy I stumbled upon this. Love it. Thank you!
I love this look. I want to paint this on a wall for new baby but include stick-on decals of larger (up to 4 feet tall trees with mama and baby bear in the foreground). Where would I start and end the mountains to insert the up close decals near the bottom? I hope you read this and can help. Thanks
I want mine to look dark grey and black (black being more prominent than grey) do you recommend using the acrylic still for black or should I go for grey as the base and then use acrylic to darken the grey as I go ?
Completely newbie question here: would this be something I'd be able to attempt with latex eggshell paint or would that get clumpy/chunky as I worked it in with the atmosphere color? is acrylic the best way to go?
I used regular eggshell house paint, not sure if it was "latex" or not. It's all acrylic in the end, so just work with a bit of urgency and you shouldn't run into clumping problems. Hope this helps!
Gearing up to try this but it's very hard to make the trees look ok, and blending is incredibly difficult. Paint dries very quickly, and it doesn't seem to blend very easily, the bristle marks are quite visible even using a very light touch. Perhaps I need more practice, I will keep on trying.
This is exactly the tutorial I needed to bring my own wall project to life! Thank you!
You have enriched my life sir. Your trees speak deeply into the depths of my SOUL.
I am happy to hear this. Thankyou!

Best bed too 😉
Thanks! Everyone likes the wall, though the bed gets mixed reviews... but I like it and I'm glad some others do too!
Love it, doing this this coming weekend!
Good luck, sir. Paint bravely!

What kind of brush do you use for trees on the wall

Do you change brush sized for walls?
Cool idea! I'd paint some of the atmosphere color over top the decals to give a misty distant look.
Thanks. That’s a great idea to mesh the decals with mural. If you use a fan brush for a canvas would you use the same fir a full wall?
Me gusta mucho gracias
What type of brushes did you use for the ridges on the big wall mural? Looks so amazing and easy, but I know it's not.
I used basic housepaint brushes from home depot. 1",2",3"... oh and a fan brush for the most distant ridges.
I love the colors!!! Can u tell me the name of the paint colors please
The light color is called ghost pines and the dark is charcoal grey. Thanks for watching!
I really want to try this for my room! Looks so cool! How many acrylic paints did you go through? I’m curious how many I’d need.
I used 2-3 of the acrylic bottles if I remember correctly.
I want mine to look dark grey and black (black being more prominent than grey) do you recommend using the acrylic still for black or should I go for grey as the base and then use acrylic to darken the grey as I go ?
Experiment small scale, as I do here:
ua-cam.com/video/N5JzE_lRzA0/v-deo.html
When you painted the wall did you use that fan brush? It seems too small for the wall.
I’m attempting to do this, thanks to your tutorial. Thanks! 🏔
Yup! I used the fan brush to paint the most distant layer.
Thank you for sharing what kind of paint do you use?
I use interior house paint and acrylic.
@@ryanlanyi thank you :)

Is the base paint just white?
The base paint is whatever you choose, in this case grey

Practice small scale on a large canvas or other wall analog, a scrap of drywall, for instance. It helps!
👍👍👍
Woodglut plans are amazing!
