    I followed the exact colors like here and it came out amazing...I used the same eggshell paint but you only need a quart of the nightview dark paint ...and I added the dark to light then tested it dry before painting so that the shades were perfect. TOOK me 4 hours each of 3 days...another important part is a artist 1 inch to outline and rolling with mini roller is way faster

      @@SweetSofties Quesion: did you keep pouring the dark paint to the light paint even for the last layer? Or did you just use the darkest colour that you had left over for the last layer? The last one seems quite dark, can hardly believe thats not the darkest paint only :-)

    • @SweetSofties
      @SweetSofties  5 років тому

      Hi! Yes, I continued pouring the dark paint into the light paint. Even though it looks extremely dark on the wall, the darkest grey that we had is actually even more dark! It would have made a more noticeable difference between the last layer and second-to-last layer if we used only the darkest color. We didn't want a huge contrast, so we continued with the mixing, even for that last layer.

    This is so good! I want to do this in one of my rooms but I was thinking I would have to use masking tape, but I see that you did it free hand. Do you have any tips to getting nice solid lines? Thank you!

    • @SweetSofties
      @SweetSofties  4 роки тому +8

      Thank you!! I enjoyed doing it freehand to create an organic-looking mountain range! For getting nice, solid lines, I would recommend having a generous amount of paint on your brush as you paint the sharp edges (such as the shape of the mountain where you would normally use masking tape). Loading your brush with paint for those edges will avoid any whispy-looking brush strokes. And then, the inside of the mountain is basically just a color fill-in. Hope this helps!!

  • @JanePalma
    @JanePalma 5 років тому +5

    Thank you for this! How did you do the gradient/ombre effect for the mountain edges though?

    • @SweetSofties
      @SweetSofties  5 років тому +4

      You're so welcome! Are you referring to the gradient of the different mountain ranges? I slowly mixed dark grey paint in with the light grey paint to create darker shades. Each single mountain range uses jsut one shade, though; I kept it consistent for each individual range.

    How long did it take to paint the wall? Did you measure out the paint for mixing? My only worry is I would mess up and them we would not have the right paint to fix.

    • @SweetSofties
      @SweetSofties  4 роки тому +3

      Good questions! The painting part of it took us an entire afternoon. I'd plan out an entire day, with the morning for setting up the area (such as taping the edges with paper to keep any fly-away paint from getting on the other walls or floor. I didn't closely measure out the paint for mixing, but what I did was take a small (disposable) cup and add just a bit of darker paint into the light paint at a time. As long as you have enough dark paint for your layers, I don't think you can mess up! Just make sure the mountain range closest to you has the darkest paint (you're gradually going from light to dark). I hope that this helps!

  • @jessicaschisler6506

    Did you do a second coat of paint of top of it?
    Looks great, and appreciate all the pointers throughout the video

    • @SweetSofties
      @SweetSofties  3 роки тому +4

      Thanks!! We didn't do a second layer, but you can if you'd like to as you work through each of the mountain ranges. I'd recommend doing one range, waiting, giving it a second layer, and then moving onto the next range....instead of completing the entire wall and going back for a second coat. This way, you won't have trouble getting the same color to match the first paint coat. Hope this helps!

      @SweetSofties  Рік тому

      Hi! We only did one coat of paint and it's still looking great! I'm sure it'll be fine if you don't use the cheapest paint, and if your'e putting in a nice thick layer as you paint.

    I am going to try this in my house. You did a great job! How much dark paint did you add to the light paint between each mountain range? And did you add the dark paint to the entire can of lighter paint each time? Or in a separate container?

    • @SweetSofties
      @SweetSofties  4 роки тому +3

      Victoria Murray awesome, you’ll have fun with this project! I added just a small cup of black paint between each range, and I put it directly into the can of light paint. Hope this helps!

    • @SweetSofties

      Hi! I haven't added anything else to the mural itself. The video only shows how to do the mountains because I did not show the initial set-up (e.g., adding tape to the sides of the walls, covering the floors, getting gloves and paintbrushes ready, etc). Hope this makes sense!

    For the last layer is that just the night view color, was it the combo of the two to create a dark shade?

    • @SweetSofties

      Hi! The last layer is actually a combination of the two to create a darker shade. The Night View color is very, very dark on its own!

      We used regular, flat painting brushes! My husband, who was covering the larger areas of the ranges, used a wider one than me and I used a thinner one as I was doing the edging/outline of the peaks. Hope this helps!

      And thanks for taking the time to write a blog post, as well. As a not-at-all-skilled painter...I wouldn't have known to slowly add paint to gradually mix two original colors to create different shades for each mountain range. Totally genius & I'm definitely gonna do that! 🔥 🎨
