  • Here is a video tutorial showing you how I painted this cool ombre wall using only latex paint and water.
    These are the supplies I used
    Latex Paint in these colors*:
    - New House White (white)
    - Starless Night (navy blue)
    - Shadow Mountain (dark gray)
    - Painters tape
    - Paint trays
    - A spray bottle of water
    - Several chip brushes
    - Baby wipes (they are a lifesaver when you mess up)
    *These paint colors are all by Behr (a brand sold at Home Depot), in an eggshell sheen.

    Excellent job!!! I work at Lowe's in the paint department so I'm always buying the mistints!! I have SO many gallons of paint 🤣 I have parrots and I've been wanting to paint a jungle/forest mural on the walls for them. I love what you did and can't wait to give it a try.

      Do you have any pics of your jungle walls or suggestions for colors? I'm trying to give my daughter a forest nook for her new room and this looks so much more like a forest than the mountain mural idea I was originally planning.

    Gorgeous! The word "dramatic" gets thrown around a lot to describe a room or piece of furniture but this wall is the definition of dramatic! It changes the entire feel of the room and is a piece of art. Just stunning. if it were in my house I'd sit and stare at it all day and night! I'd never get anything done. Who knew you could paint a wall and bring the romance back! LOL!

    Nice! I love the colors you chose. The wall looks beautiful! I wonder if you could do the glaze on a wall like you did on the french provincial dresser. Do you think it would turn out the same?

    • @TheWoodSpabyPatRios
      @TheWoodSpabyPatRios  5 років тому +2

      Thank you Lydia! I never tried glazing a wall. My only concern is that walls are very porous so it would be tricky to work with the glaze before it got completely sucked in. Maybe if you sealed it first, but I really can't say. Let me know if you try!

    Such a great video. When did you start adding the blue? The very top and the very bottom are black and white and then did you add blue just on the brush while blending? I’m planning to do this as a the background and then add faded trees in black so wanted to make sure they come through. Thank you.

    • @TheWoodSpabyPatRios
      @TheWoodSpabyPatRios  3 роки тому

      Thanks! I add the blue when I get to the middle. Yes, I add it to the wet brush.

  • @tooloohome9001
    @tooloohome9001 3 роки тому +1

    Amazing video, thanks for sharing Pat! Just a couple of questions: did you keep applying paint to your brush till the end or at some point you stopped wetting with paint and just continued with water? and if so, what colour did you add in the intersections?
    Also, I saw you had 2 brushes but 3 different paints. How does it work?

    • @TheWoodSpabyPatRios
      @TheWoodSpabyPatRios  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks! In the areas I wanted to blend more I had much more water than paint in my brush. Sometimes only water to help with the blending. The transition color I used was blue, but I mixed it with white towards the top and with gray towards the bottom.

    Absolutely gorgeous but how did the pattern of your brush strokes 'disappear'? As in the end result looks gorgeously cloudy and blended but in the original closeup at the end of your first day it was so obviously brushed?

    • @TheWoodSpabyPatRios
      @TheWoodSpabyPatRios  5 років тому

      The more you water your brush, the smoother it looks. From up close, I can still see some brush marks, but they don't bother me at all!

    Hi there. Thank you so much for this video. I would like to ask when you went in with the third color. The white cane down one third of the way, then the black came up one third, and then you blended them with the blue? I’m not sure about how to apply the blue. Thank you 🙏 😊

      @TheWoodSpabyPatRios  4 роки тому +1

      Hi!

    Thank you for this video. I am about to do a large wall and am collecting techniques! Once the paint is dry, how long do you have to blend with the wet paintbrush? If you go back the next day, do you still only need water on the brush? If you need to add paint, how is this done?

    • @TheWoodSpabyPatRios
      @TheWoodSpabyPatRios  4 роки тому

      The paint will dry fast on the wall and that’s ok. You will add new layers to it. I spray water both in my brush and the paint to thin it a little. I don’t spray wanted on the wall to avoid drips.

    Love this wall! How big is your wall? I saw in another comment that you purchased 1 quart of paint for each color, I want to make sure to get enough. Also, I understand you used regular interior wall paint (thank you for providing the color names), what finish of paint did you use? Satin? Flat? And about how long did this take you? Thank you!

    • @TheWoodSpabyPatRios
      @TheWoodSpabyPatRios  3 роки тому

      My wall is quite big, 13’ long. One quart of each color is more than enough, unless you’ll need to paint a first base coat of white ( necessary if your wall is dark now).

  • @RFBfan
    @RFBfan Рік тому

    I like your rendering the best, ie, irregular cloud-like forms & transitions instead of the more linear approach I've seen. The details re blending are most helpful. I'm only surprised that you used "chip brushes" - I did some practicing using 12"x12" wallboard pieces that Lowe's sells, with skinny chip brushes (due to the small size). I found that the chip brushes kept shedding hairs while I was painting, plus left really streaky brushmarks. I suppose using more water will help that? I bought better brushes for when I do the real thing. 🙂 One question: how many times did you go over the wall after it had dried, to get the look you wanted? That might be an unanswerable question, especially if you only re-did sections. I'm going to be starting my wall in a couple days. Thanks for a really helpful tutorial.

  • @misstaraallison

    Hello! I know this video is 2 years old and I am hoping you still answer questions! Your wall and encouragement are what inspired me to try this technique with my living room wall. I am in the middle of the project now but I was wondering if you also had trouble with the chip paint brushes losing the bristles as you worked and getting stuck on the wall? I got some from Home Depot and they are just terrible. I am constantly having to take bristles off the wall!

    • @TheWoodSpabyPatRios
      @TheWoodSpabyPatRios  2 роки тому

      Yes, some chip brushes do shed. I try to pull the loose bristles before I wet the brush, but there is always some that come off as I paint. You can use other types of brushes with natural bristles. Chop the tips of the bristles with scissors and they will have the same texture as a chip brush. Good luck!
