I had the same issue pulled out the gear, called the company and they said they don't sell those to consumers only repair companies. I called a repair company and they wanted min $90 to fix plus the cost of shipping the vacuum to them...Ended up replacing it with a Roomba brand and have had zero issues. Love your videos!
Do you think Roombas are easy to repair? I'm on the market for a cleaner but can't decide what I should buy. Don't want to support companies with poor ethical records.
Oh, the dust flying around everywhere throughout this video! 😱 We have that same vacuum (same brand, at least). We call her Hazel! Harry and Hazel! 7:36-7:53: Are you running a fog machine? Is your house on fire?! Is the sweat literally steaming off your body from the extreme physical exertion of this fix? 😆
I have a theory on why this happens. Those little sweepers have a habit of catching under chair legs (for example) and dragging it to a stop, the constant tourqe of the motor flexes the shafts just enough to allow the teeth to seperate, and place increased the load up the gears, further increasing tourque untill the plastic goes all elastic and deforms
I used to race high end RC cars and the spur gears are designed to fail to save the motor and other more expensive parts from damage in case somthing gets jamed.
o.O "But for the sake of replacing this one part.... I could have some spare parts"; if you replace the whole unit, you still have the spare parts; you just need to take the old one apart then, rather than both of them - take it apart, then bin the broken gear.
It looks like the sweeping brushes can eventually get caught under the drive instantaneously, each time, building up to an impending catastrophe until ultimately the gears over time get fully bent. I’d suggest metal gears but I’d be afraid the same problem would occur because of the placement/length of the sweeping brushes only causing the motor to burnout. If the sweeping brushes could either be moved out to about 2-5mm or cut away from the drive wheels, the gears may last a lot longer. Of course I’m just speculating as I’ve never worked on these types of robo vacuums. Though I did pick up a whole set of a Roomba Scuba from a thrift shop for $25 USD. I don’t think I’m going to use it as it was intended, I think I’ll make some modifications to it.
First: YT suggested a video of yours a few weeks ago. I really like your style, competent, videos well done, and also with a nice dose of self-irony. Just out of curiosity: Would it be possible to harden these gears somehow? I don’t know how, maybe cover them with something or„bake“ them?
The repairability is one of the reasons why I prefer the products fron iRobot. Much easier to maintain and to repair because of the modularity. Sorry for that worse english. Carry on mate. Greetings from Germany.
Perhaps the current to the motor isn't limited when it hits a solid object. Slamming plastic gears has to do some damage. Maybe a rubber belt drive would be kinder when the brushes are stopped by an object.
Looks like a serious design flaw. Might be caused by not having enough backlash on the gears, so they mesh too aggressively? Might be worth seeing if you can back one of the gears off very slightly next time you have it apart.
Just think. They could have made it direct drive. Or at least used brass gears. But they didn’t because they want them to fail so you have to buy another.
Thanks for the video. I'm no gearbox aficionado by any means, but isn't it bad for the other cogs if you change just one with a different wear pattern? Afaik one should change all cogs to make sure it doesn't wear down newer ones very quick?
Plastics, meh fuckit. Metal gearsets and trains though, oh fuck yes, you need to take care if replacing just one, and you better be damn sure you did all your measure ments spot on. 20 Ft Lbs is one thing, but 2500+ Ft Lbs, is on a whole diffrent level
You should try and find out if your grease is compatible with the gear. Those bent gears are not normal. Something has degraded the plastic. If you have used incompatible grease, it would explain it perfectly.
Have a similar Eufy model, exact same experience as others on here, the company want you to buy a motor for £12, rather than selling cogs for 12p. On the video that Eufy provided, you didnt have to take the wheel motors out like Steve did - perhaps difference in models. I think Eufy have made a firmware update now to try to reduce this from happening, as now when my vacuum gets stuck, the brushes stop spinning until the machine is free. Stupid vacuum.
Nice fix! I had one of the original Roombas and all it would do was immediately get jammed under my ottoman and beep until its battery went flat. Stupid robot vacuum...
Had a similar issue it was the blue brush had warn away on the end with the square connector was rounded. Just replaced with one from Amazon and noise gone.
Needing a robo-vac to clean up after the robo-vac... Reminds me of the stupid blisterpacks you get when purchasing new scissors! Guess what you need to open them - yep, that's right. SCISSORS! LOL,
What about getting a metal gear, they do metal gear servos for radio controlled aircraft for big control surfaces, and there was one hair after you put the new gear on
I always use my manual battery powered vacuum to clean the robot. And then the cable manual one to clean that one. And when that's dirty, I'll throw it away and buy a new one because what else could I do?
Is there no way you can use some silicone sealer, or some adhesive foam tape to make a better seal to stop all the crap getting into the interals? You shouldn't have to clean the inside of it like that, surely. Think about all the people that have one that haven't got your skills. You might even find you get better suction if it's sealed up properly.
What are your thoughts about Eufy's lack of security around customer data, e.g. their cameras 'dialling home' even when you've told them not too? (I personally wont touch their products.)
I got a camera outside, integrated it to home assistant and locked it from accessing the internet based on the packets it tries to send. works great locally. Took a bit of tinkering, couldn't tell you how to do it though, since I just followed a tutorial myself
That's old news and has now be resolved. Should never have happened and I still haven't bought a single eufy product because of that issue but it has been resolved.
I have had my eufy 11 for five years. My loud clicking noise problem was solved just by replacing the lithium battery, and I got a 3000 instead of the 2600.
I think the loud noise is a part of the natural process of it gaining sentience. Growing pains if you will. It probably wanted to disobey one of the prime directives. I'm currently looking at one of the 99 cent stores $25 robo vacs. I want to take it home and laugh at it. It probably just spins in circles with a plastic wheel that uses gravity to change direction. I keep having to make myself not buy it. I know it wouldn't work as a vacuum. I'm in full acceptance that no matter what, it won't do its job. I'm just morbidly curious as to the level of jank it is made with. Like how Fisher Price it is. You can barely find a decent hand vac for $25. How is it going to be a decent vacuum AND cosplay as a robot? Also, curiosity impells me to ask: do Britons call those things robo hoovers? I understand that the slang for vacuum in England is Hoover, so I wondered if you call those Roomba-like products Robot Hoovers. Please don't hit me, I'm not trying to be racist. I'm just morbidly curious about robot vacuum localization etiquette.
Thought Dave would have told you that you took the wrong motor out, disappointed in Dave now 🙄 😂

@@goku445 I can not speak to the repairs. But the quality of the Roomba has been fantastic. There have been no issues in over a year.
@@Pneuma999 Thanks.
Dave was just taking a ride at the end 😂.
Whooohoooo Dave 🎉🎉🎉
Repair video, before the weekend? This is a rare treat.

I think he vapes, but idk for sure.
I think so too. That was just quite a fog…that kept on going! 😄
@@Loki- It's a Video Effect ...Lol
DJ Roomba in the house. With special guest Dave!!😅😅
The best part about day 64 of being laid off... Roomba repair
I usually use a shop vacuum and an electric air duster when I'm doing maintenance on my vacuums. Nice work!
Great vid mate, but this backing track made me feel like I was on hold to the Doctors.
I have a theory on why this happens.

I used to race high end RC cars and the spur gears are designed to fail to save the motor and other more expensive parts from damage in case somthing gets jamed.
Same here, but imagine nobody sold replacement spur gears
May I suggest getting a 3D printer. Its amazing to have that skill and ability to quickly whip up plastic gears and such.
o.O "But for the sake of replacing this one part.... I could have some spare parts"; if you replace the whole unit, you still have the spare parts; you just need to take the old one apart then, rather than both of them - take it apart, then bin the broken gear.
Dude when you finished the repair, I had to dust MY desk.... :)
Love the pure honesty, Steve
Had to replace one of the gears on mine as well. Been quite a few years now and still working.
I do like those Wera screwdrivers.... Nice fix Steve 👍

Changed the 2 motors (didn’t even check on the gear) and it worked! Doesn’t sound like an (helicopter) anymore 😂. Thanks for your help!
Disappointed that there was no Patreon rap this time.
@Drughal Didn't realize I was watching the second one. Just saw that he posted a new video and jumped on it.
Just think. They could have made it direct drive. Or at least used brass gears. But they didn’t because they want them to fail so you have to buy another.
won't brass gears be noisier?
I have a similar model. Have you had any issues with the battery? Mine keeps killing the battery every 6months or so.

This video flared up my allergies
well that sucks.. great work Steve.
these robot cleaners will always remind me same as a poor turtle turned on the back lol , they are looking so animals ^^
Mine has the same problem, just out of warranty 🤬. What size gear is it so I can order one? Thanks
Took a Roomba to bits to fix charging pad. Omg there was filth and dirt everywhere in it. Nearly got a lung disease taking it apart.
Nice fix! I had one of the original Roombas and all it would do was immediately get jammed under my ottoman and beep until its battery went flat. Stupid robot vacuum...
Ironically, Steve needed a vacuum to clean his vacuum
2:37 He also forgot his upside down rules.
3:53 OI ! That's my joke !
Are you Rob aka the "Master" in the Brave little Toaster that fixes everybody up at the end?
Had a similar issue it was the blue brush had warn away on the end with the square connector was rounded. Just replaced with one from Amazon and noise gone.
Thanks for this trying to figure out why it sounds so bad
Is that a drum throne on the left at 0:40 ? Are you a drummer Steve?
This is a good song.
I don’t care what anyone says. The yt library has some bangers
Looking at your right hand, was you first thought after being mauled by your cat: "Right, time to fix the Robovac."? 😁
Great video not seeing sooner notification issue but now sorted it
can you tell me where to buy the gear motor? thanks
What is the song playing in the background? It’s on the tip of my tongue.
Where can I buy replacement gears? 😉

About time to get a 3D printer, Steve 😊
The music in this video with all the "Skype" alerts had me checking my Skype acct more than once. =)
did Dave enjoy his ride ?
Finally fixing something I own, nice work
Were can i buy this gear if I do not have a donor?
Lovely fix well done Steve

Why would they not put metal cogs in , they would last forever?
They see Dave rollin, they hatin
Sliders with socks Steve?
What are you using for Lube ?
I don't know if that battery is big but it doesn't look like it hold more than 10k mAh or 10,000 mAh
4:28 I wondered how long it was going to take to realize you had the wrong motor.
Steve, I must inform you that the memory is the first thing to go.
You do NOT want to know what the 2nd thing is... sigh....
😅😂🤣
Was waiting for solid , but no SOLID in this video :(
Couldn't you have replaced the motor and keep the broken one as the spare parts? 😁
I was thinking the exact same thing 😀
I thought the same but then I was like "well, thanks to that the video is longer so more free entertainment".
Are these things worth buying ?
did you name it Harry?

Maybe it’s worth it to mod the camera to just play the Rick Astley video on a loop.
I got the same unbearable noise with my Eufy I just replaced the twirl brush in the middle and the problem was solved.

I have had my eufy 11 for five years. My loud clicking noise problem was solved just by replacing the lithium battery, and I got a 3000 instead of the 2600.

Well a robot for a few square meters come on steve come on !! :p
Well that Eufy Sucks !!! and so does the gear - great job mate
You need a vacuum cleaner to clean your vacuum cleaner ...
I have error
code S3
How can solve
I really enjoy your content.
Change the whole assembly and use the one with the broken gear for parts.
Could totally make a new gear with 3d printing pretty easy and cheap

Tank Commander Dave
damn made to break. no grease inside the housing
Are those things not meant for floors that aren’t carpet? Like o wonder it has messed up gears, it is struggling against carpet -_-
Dave ❤
I was thinking that at the end. He would have the remote in hand and crash off everything and then go " Stupid Game " ...
Are dave and harry related ?
Or you could just replace the old broken motor with the new one and then keep the old one for spare parts....
Love your channel, Cheers Mate!
We had that Robovac. It sucked!
Do you just stand in the middle of the living room floor when you trim your beard ? Lol
why is your house full of smoke.
How about fixing your phone screen on the next vid?
It's a vacuum cleaner.. Shouldn't a loud noise be normal?
You the ROBOMAN🤣
You're not thinking 4th dimensionally after flipping it over to remove the motor! Michael Scott had it right!
the heat melts the plastic gears
You really should get one with Lidar.... they are MILES better, more efficient and just overall a better machine.
