little tip for future repairs on chips with broken pins, you can get a tiny usb engraving pen and use it to remove some plastic on the edge of the chip next to a broken pin to expose the internal metal leg and solder a wire onto it. ive fixed a lot of things this way
Not gonna lie, Steve, I thought you might give up on this one after seeing how absolutely mangled it was in the first video. The fact you were able to revive it at all is nothing short of a minor miracle. Well done on this one.
seeing the state of those caps makes me somewhat grateful that the first time round i sent my pc engine gt away to be fixed they didn't butcher it anywhere near as badly, they just didn't bother replacing half the caps, in the end i re did the whole job myself and im glad i did!
It’s Alive! Sometimes you gotta work with what you got. RGB screen looks awesome and so glad you sorted it out. Please keep the content coming, mistakes included. The realism is what I love.
@@Mizai It's a very annoying, irritating, issue for sure, when it happens like this, it's something UA-cam definitely need to address, and from what i've read, they are well aware of it, but this really isn't the fault of any poster, this is ALL the fault of YT. Of course it wasn't an issue when comments were always a scroll down to the bottom, and then they decided to go with this format. But this irritating issue could easily be resolved by eliminating that single visible comment, with a simple update, making it so, to read any of the comments, you'd have to purposely click on comments. But of course YT are typically slow to act on anything that doesn't involve large amounts of money
I'm really glad UA-cam randomly suggested me your channel. I was big into modding Gameboys for a while, but kind of out of of the electronics repair game. Watching you fix these devices definitely makes me want to get back to it. Great job brining that thing back to life.
GET IN THERE!!! I almost fell over when it came on. Great fix Steve, that was intense. They didn't leave you much to go on and you still nailed it, well done!
Thanks Travis! Still shocked that it actually worked! I've been playing on it these past few days and it's a fantastic handheld! The RGB screen is awesome too! 👍
This week on' Tales of the UN-Expected. The viewers are shocked & Steve's! face (Reactions) leave the viewers in tears of joy & laughter. My wife told me pass her lip stick but.. I gave her a glue stick now she is not talking to me. (I'm trying Not! to give the game away) 😂👍🏻
I’ll never get bored of the pure joy from you when you get something fixed (equally the confusion as to how the hell it’s working 😂) keep going Steve 👍🏻 Glued components?! Fair play to you for not giving up!
@@StezStixFix i have Garmin dezl 780 that wont power on even with new battery replaced. i tried pressing power button for 5sec, 15sec, 30 sec still not working. i also tried pressing power and volume down at same time not working still. GPS micro usb port not taking charge either, i think its defective too. Could you do a similar gps fix that wont power on video?
Impressed you managed to get this working! So many issues and bodges, what a wild job someone did on that thing. As someone who's still learning to fix stuff myself, this stuff is super inspiring.
Great fix mate 😂😂your a wizard Harry loved that game in the arcades remember you used to sit down with a joy stick and the machine moved was crazy back in them days 👏👏❤️👍🏻
B-Y and R-Y sounds like Pb and Pr from Y, Pb, Pr component. Y is Luma. Pb and Pr are the difference from Luma to generate blue and red. Green is generated from Y algorithmically.
It is a reference to the YCBCR color space. Y is luminance. Cb is blue minus luminance, hence B-Y. Cr is similar. The Pr and Pb you mention is a gamma corrected variant.
I laughed at those glued caps. So many people think that just glueing components back in place will fix it. I just fixed a Dualshock 4 controller where they'd tried to change the battery, ripped the battery connector off the board and just glued it back down thinking that'd make it work again.
Great rescue Steve 👍😀. That hot glue can be a pain ... sometimes using a craft knife to put cuts into it or male a dimple in the top can help increase the surface area and time with the IPA in contact improves the softening. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Chris! Great tip! I'm not sure it would have helped with this one, I'm pretty sure those caps were ripped off and then glued back down anyway! 😬
If it is a Zener diode, then it only would need two legs, it is quite possible the third pad was purely a support. Not sure how you managed to get it going after such a mess being created by the previous hack, but you did it and it will be a really nice little device.
Ignore my comment in previous video. Excellent work nice bogged together. Your assessment of the video chip correct comp out puts not need for screen mod. Person who did the original mod needs shot. Well done again.😁👍
You total animal! (not 100% sure this will be seen as a compliment, but it is supposed to be) What a ride, the glued parts cracked me up. Forgot to solder them perhaps. Drugs maybe? hahaha. They need you in the Nasa space station for repairs until they actually get those nano bots that do repairs.
Thats an excellent job there.always impressed with your perseverance.as a sidenote you can pick up a power cable for this off ebay which allows you to power this from a usb powerbank instead of a million AA batteries a week, although admittedly the lcd upgrade certainly cuts down on battery usage a bit.
Good job !! At some point the RGB board was very hard to find (slightly easier now I think). At least it made the cut legs matter less. The diode might be 2-in1, or both pins being the same, so if it works like that it'll be fine.
Dude great job! I have watched a few of your videos and I am quite impressed how you use what you got and make it work! I have already learned some things from you. I am trying to grow an electronic repair business at home. Mainly video game, consoles and such. So I decided to subscribe and keep on watching!
Im so glad you made a return to this, i was going to mention on the previous video that so long as you could fix the power circuit it wouldn't be that bad an investment to buy a faulty pc engine basic console and use hot air to swap the HU chip although it looked like youd've had to fix the pads it connected to anyway :)
Sorry it's not much, things are tight at the moment. I know nothing about electronics but for some reason I've been finding your stuff fascinating and relaxing (for me) to watch! Hope one day you get a Sinclair Spectrum or Atari St! All the best, Thanks
Hey Man love your videos. I have a pc engine gt that i recapped. Unfortunately it didn't fix it. i have a "shorted" capacitor pad on cc503. Positive pad is grounded and the ground isnt grounded. Not sure how that happens. Any advice would be appreciated.
That board looks so busy, when I watched the first video I just thought 'nah im ok thanks', how do you capture the zoomed In parts do you have it going through a computer? The clarity is amazing
some of those pin names sound like maybe they are colour combinations. Red Blue green yellow cyan etc maybe not but if its just different colour blends that might explain why the thing still works .
😁 yeah, I hate that hot snot. You just know it's hiding something horrific! Screen is OK, it has a screen protector film thingy over it, so it might look like it's scratched but it's all good! 👍
