Beautiful build. Paint job, color choice, and drawer pulls really set it apart from most window seats and DIY work. Just one other note to add, the drawer pull jig you bought from Home depot is not designed for you to drill through, its intended for you to use either an auto-center punch (kind of like an awl) or a vix bit (self centering drill bit). Great work and thanks for the inspiration and helpful video.
You can already tell the “next level” skills when you were assembling the face frame. It’s like night and day compared to your “beginner” build. It would have been awesome to have done a before and after shot of the little nook. Great job! Thanks for sharing.
I really appreciate you sharing! Gave me good stuff to think about. I’m going to replace an old picture window and bump it out to a bench. Well done. Thx!
Great Job! Looks like you already figured out all carpenters keep their "breaking down" station right at the door. Have to think about flow, so the largest things are going to be coming in and out right at that door, so keep your isles wide and that space clear. Get you a couple different sizes of centipede tables to use right there - you won't regret it and you're back will thank you one day!
Thank JB! You are absolutely right, the quicker I can unload and load up the fast and easier things are for me. I appreciate you advice. Thanks for watching through this video btw!
Been looking at various bench seat videos for a bench and shelving project I have coming up. Every bench seat is a little different. I like your approach and tips. My baseboards are Shaker style (3/4" thick) so I am probably going to leave them in place and build them out with an additional 3/4" for a 1.5" foundation on which I can install the 2x4 frame. I don't anticipate I will need to remove the bench afterwards, but if I do, the baseboards will already be in place.
Thank you for this video! I was glued to the screen. (That sounds like I'm attempting a carpenter joke, but I'm not). I really appreciate all the tips, how you break the task down into doable parts, your explanation of how you solved the problems, and your sense of humor.
TY so much for the full commentary - really helps. I do have a question. I have trouble keeping corners square. Even if I use a square they seems to shift. Can you talk more about that. I even got a corner jig but well...hmm....maybe its operator error here?
@@marymacfarlane4275 thanks! Are you corners not square on your face frames or the actual cabinet? If it’s the cabinet make sure you use stretchers when building them on the back and tops. Make sure the pieces are cut to the same length as well, that’ll ensure they are square. If it’s the face frame. You want to make sure your vertical cuts and horizontal cuts are cut to the same measurement to a 1/16”
@@Wouldwoodwork looking at my bay window right now, and yes let's go. Yours is definitely the one I want to achieve out of the others I've watched today!
Great work - I’m doing something similar and wondering if the plywood for the top of the bench that gets upholstered was cut flush with the front or did you overhang it a little?
Howdy Tenille, I didn't see the link for the foam pad. Is it 2" thick high density? Are you happy with the one you got? Or would you have gone thicker. Thanks!
I am working on a project and would love to build this! You don't happen to have any plan drawings do you? I am making two - one on each side of my fireplace insert cabinet. I have approximately 90" on both sides - so a long bench. I am also considering making them come around the corner - so corner bench seats? I would love your thoughts and would be happy to pay for any drawings/plans!
At the moment I do not have plans on this but that's a good idea to design one for you guys! I'll try to sketch something out for you as an idea of what you can do with your space
I wonder how the foam is holding up after ten months? We are about to have window seats built for our room. I wish I could say we are actually building the seat ourselves.
I'll post a picture of our window seat this evening if you want to take a look. Come back around 8 pm. It looks great! there are a few ripples in the seat but overall still in great condition.
@@Wouldwoodwork I'll check it out -- or at least will try - when I get off work. We are having someone else build the seat because we don't have the tools or talent but we are considering making the cushion part ourselves. Just got to find a turkey cutter now!
I appreciate good woodworking skill but it's all negated when you don't work safely. Coat sleeves, gloves, two people pushing/pulling on a table saw, no safety glasses, masks...take it from someone who worked in the custom wood industry for 40 years...very scary stuff there.
Excellent presentation! Love your work! Can you please share a good list of power equipment needed for a beginner wood working hobbist at home? thank you!
It's beautiful! Hopefully I can use this video to guide me through building my own banquette.

Thanks! I should have done a before and after clip. Maybe I'll switch up the thumbnail to show both versions. Thank you for your comment brother! 🙏🏾
I rarely sit through entire youtube videos, but this one was different :) great work! very jealous of all your skills and tools!

That’s a really good looking reading nook. Amazing craftsmanship
Thank you Meesh, this one came out way better than the last one
Unreal. Great job.

i love the amount of craftsmanship you put into this project, so much attention to detail.
Thank you! 😊
I wish I had seen this video 4 months ago! I built a bench for my mom’s house & I made it much more complicated. 😢 This looks great!

Outstanding work. Love the color choices too!
Thank you family! Green and brown is a solid color combo
Fantastic vid. Lotta useful tips and tool suggestions for beginners.
Excellent work. Enjoyed the fork😂 method.
😂😂 it's safe to say I have mastered the fork method
Thanks!!
So many helpful tips! Thank you!
Bon Appetit 😂
Also, using the electric carving knife for foam cushion shaping is a sign of genius.

Great job! Did you ever end up sketching it for those who'd like to replicate your project? If you could post just an image here, that would be great.
Thanks for the content! Anyone know if that back is 1/2" plywood? Would 1/2" plywood work?
Love it! I am having a hard time finding the cushion. Can you please send link? Thanks!!!
Message me on ig and I'll send it there. Don't think I can send links here. Search 2" memory foam on Amazon

This is Pewter Green
