Hey Taryl: The shives on the Craftsman drill press are incorrectly placed. One of the pulleys needs to be flipped upside down from how it is now. If the top pulley on the motor is the smallest on top and the belt goes to the largest at the top on the drill arbor the drill speed will be the slowest.

This was a great video! My dad had one of these which we ran for at least 20 years on the toughest, most ornery 3 acres of side-hill ledge property in Vermont. Ours had the dual transmission which gave it a low speed, high torque crawl which was nearly unstoppable! We put wheel weights on the front and filled the rear tires with water mixed with calcium chloride. That and a set of Canadian chains made sure our tractor got traction! Many times we needed to get a heavy trailer load of horse or chicken manure up to the top of the hill to spread on the pasture. So, two of us kids would ride on the bulldozer blade to keep the front end down while one would ride on the trailer hitch for that extra bit of traction needed while Dad drove in 2-2 or 2-3 and near full throttle while working the individual brakes to keep it on course and not spinning the wheel on the upper side. Once we made it up, Dad would choose one lucky kid to drive in 1-1 or 1-2 as he climbed into the trailer and spread the stuff with a fork or scoop shovel. One of the neatest things was that you could put both transmissions in reverse and get another forward speed between 2-1 and 2-2! After we completely wore the engine out, Dad sold it to a neighbor farmer who restored it and takes it to tractor shows.

Thats a really nice complete tractor. What a find!
Thank you
Oh Taryl the man with the Coalgate smile, I was hoping and praying you weren't gonna sandblast the carbertrator bowl and ruin it. Thanks
wow you got it running again. Great job.
If you flip the motor pulley upside down on your old drill press, you will have a much better speed selection. Cone pulleys should be opposite ( one up and one down). Hope that helps.
Good Stuff, "Long Live The King" ...tanks for sharing
Taryl, you the man that was a cool project I always like seeing if I can get it to run first before I spend time on the fluffing and buffing. Taryl your the king and you earned your dinner today, can't wait for the next project you have instore for us minions.
Oh man that idle is just lovely - could listen to that all day. Cheers from viking land.
Very cool video!! If I had it, I'd make it look almost new. My 2003 cub cadet turn out to be like brand new looking. 😎👍
I also own a International Harvester Cub Cadet tractor, a 982 with a 50 inch mower deck, and it cuts grass really great to. Built like a tank!
