Video 21 of asking for a tank with some freshwater dolphinfish please.
Most of us aren’t setting up new tanks all the time so seeing maintenance videos, getting tips and watching your tanks evolve is super helpful!!
The leaf on the monstera is yellow because the plant is sucking out the nutrients in it before it goes all brown and dry. That is why leafs on trees goes yellow and red in the autumn, the stem and roots are sucking out the nutrients before dismissing the leaf. So it is good to leave it be when a leaf is starting to get yellow. But snipping of a yellow leaf won’t do much harm either.
Wow, thats so logic actually. Thanks for sharing!
It might also be worth remembering that no leaves are 'forever.' Even the healthiest of plants will drop their oldest of leaves from time to time. Just a thought. MTC
With how tempermental these plants can be, this info is very helpful! Thanks!
Also when a plantleaf doesnt catch enough light anymore cause its overgrown its not efficient for a plant to keep it and it will dispose of it.
Starting with the proces you describe.
It retracts nutrients and water and the leaf discolours and dries out.
A normal day in the life of plants.
Thanks! I learned something new & useful today! Much appreciated!
I love watching the tanks change. I'm still at the point where my husband keeps asking "how many more tanks are you planning sweetheart?" Or, "shouldn't you finish one project before starting another?" Silly man, no project is ever "finished." Thank you for all the content and beautiful tanks.
Aquarium plant cuttings and extras make great garden compost also. You don't even have to compost them, just dig them into the garden. Also, when you clean your filter, pour that water onto your garden!
Hey MD! I believe your filter media is backwards. After the pre-filter-cylinder, the water flows from the bottom trays to the top trays. You would want your sponges to be at the bottom, to catch the much before it gets to your biological media, not before.
Watch Pondguru's Pimp My Filter #55: Oase Biomaster 850. He does a great job of showing how to orient your baskets/sponges for proper flow and filtration!
Found your channel not too long ago and so glad I did, I’ve got axolotls and it’s completely artificial for easier maintenance, but I’ve just set up a small betta tank, and I’ve gone fully live planted, real bog wood, the works! I’ve gained that confidence to do it thanks to this channel. Wish me luck! Thanks man!
All that filter water and the water you cleaned the media in would make any houseplants so so happy
I just can't get over how beautiful those angels are. I'm gonna have to order some new ones myself because I just lost my last one, my main tank's going through a cycle it seems because I had a fairly sizeable plant die-off as well as some fish dying and continuous misty water and tons of hair algae. Seems to be doing alright now so I'm letting it settle down, also giving the baby emperor and lemon tetras a chance for a decent growth spurt before adding in new fish. I really like those redtail rasboras as well, I'll have to look around for those!
I just ordered my very own fish tank after a long break, and even back then I was just helping others with their tanks as I was just a kid! I'm so excited to finally get my own, I plan on heavily planting it and I'd love to have the same kind of angelfish as you have!
@flughundi • awesome to read and I hope you are going to have a great experience and Marks red root floaters that's so cool to have the plants truly letting you know that they are all happy 😊
This would be a great tank for leopard bush fish
I have a love/hate relationship with my oase filter. Same one as you. It had no flow even brand new until I drilled extra holes in that tube. It used to make a grindy noise and would constantly purge bubbles too. No issues after modifying it though.
I put all my sponges on the patio and jet wash them lol
Have done for years
Just rinse the ceramic and bio media in fish tank water
Awesome tanks by the way bro loving the content
Yeah exactly. It's all good
I bought courser foams for my pre filter it made a hell of a difference. They don't get clogged up as much and flow rate much better
when you clean the filters use the dirty water to water the house plants in the studio. they will love it.
I’m sure they brand them as “MD red root floaters” to charge a premium! 😎
“Now this completely voids any warrant”ZZZZIIIIINNNGG 😂😂😂 that im sure wasnt meant to be as funny as it was but always get a chuckle out of these videos
Fixing? Looks perfect to me! Just needs a nice thick layer of leaf litter on the bottom!
Please can someone give me advice on what light I should use on a fish tank with a lid !!! A decent one that can keep my plants happy
MD, you should do some giveaways for those red floaters, lovely, dont have any like that here in Sweden
Fun to see the transformation as you maintain the tank. those red devils are amazing
Dwarf gouramis!! Love them!!! I have one on my tank, lovely colours, and so far no agression
Great to see maintenance. That red tank looks amazing
Hello from San Diego, CA. I love the angel fish and the super cute puffers❤
I think what oase say is you can wash the prefilter in tap water because that's not where the bulk of the beneficial bacteria is colonised, but the main sponges and media you'd wash in dechlorinated water/tank water, thats what i do anyway 😊
What a beautiful thank the angel tank is. The combination of red plants, wood and the fish looks really good.
Nice to see you grown red floaters for the store and getting fish for return.
A low economic benefit but those plants don't have to travel between several countries.
A really sustainable way of fish/tank keeping. In a world we live in today those kind of solutions are unavoidable to produce goods/animals/food etc. more locally.
Dirty water is brilliant plant fertiliser for your garden or lawn. I always put mine on the flowerbed.
Love your videos, my lotus lily in my smalll tank now has 3 lilly pads! Wish i lived nearer to get some of your red root floaters...love a floating plant! Looking forwards the next edition
That wood really complemented that tank love your angel fish.
loveee the updated views of the tank maintenance --- still miss the b roll end watching the fish w chill music :')
Water hyacinth is apparently on its way back to us apparently. I'll definitely be trying to get hold of some for the ponds this year. Pretty big but might be a floating plant worth trying in one of your tanks in place of the terrestrial plants.
Great stuff as always
What I’ve done with my pre filter is scoop out a bowl of tank water and use that to rinse out the gunk. Then if it takes two or three rinses I just get more water. And that also serves as a water change. I’ve been lucky to not have issues with air in my filter. It only does that after I’ve cleaned the media because I think the media just has to soak up water as it runs. Usually it takes me one restart for it to sail smoothly.
I recently planted my tank, straight into the gravel, havent added anything else aside from plants and more fish and its just growing perfectly, without any intervention for added bioload
Love the maintenance videos. Thank you for doing them. ❤
For red root floaters, the biggest concern is water current! If you have to strong of a current the roots will melt away. You need very little current for them to thrive
Super excited about your new arrivals. The wall tanks are looking GOOD.
A clogged pre filter will reduce flow. No need to drill bigger holes in the prefilter tube, just clean the sponges more often! I do mine every two weeks, looks like you clean yours every two months!!, A lot of that crud that came out of the filter when you switched it back on will be because you didn't rinse out the main filter sponges. If a job's worth doing, it's worth doing well...😊
This is md were talking about lol
@@baronvongreenback he just didn't do it...
I just might have to get some red devil angelfish for my 60 gallon, they are stunning 😊❤❤
The red devils are one of my favorites in your gallery! I'm so jealous of your red root floaters! Mine only stay green, even with a light upgrade. Some random hitchhiker bladder snails are also eating it like crazy. Just ordered some dwarf water lettuce, hopefully they won't munch in that too bad. Thanks for the devil update, they are so beautiful and have grown so much!
This tank looks great! Not much plants but beautiful colours and textures.
The ulasanamphra plant in the red tank you forgot to move... 4 inches to the left, on the left side of the front white bolder. No problem... cheers!
Love these vids MD, I’m not even a fish keeper, just absolutely love watching what you do. Keep up the amazing work!
You should be a fish keeper I bet you would be really great at it since we watch MD all the time😊
G'day MD,
Loving this new maintenance style. Great video.
May I ask what settings are using on the chihrios? I have a wrgb slim and my red roots seem to stay green, similar to the ones in the video that weren't directly under the light.
Thanks in advance
The red angel’s are my favorite fish in your studio, discus a close second.
Great video as always. Think you should do a Pleco tank!😮
Have you ever tried a brackish tank I think that would be a very cool video idea if not
He did do a salt water tank, look through the videos and scroll. It’s done in the new studio too.
I love cleaning the canister….. it’s the best water my crops have ever had
Rosy Barbs are great, one of the more peaceful barbs, and are great for community tanks.... If you have the space for them. They do grow up to six inches long.
It’s a good day when we get a MD video😃
Enjoyed the video I like the
maintenance sessions. Very relaxing
I've had some of your water lettuce from Maidenhead in the past. Not been lucky enough to get there when they've had any RRFs though!
If it gets as dark as that in your aquarium, you need to get lamp eyes. The thing is, lamp eyes require salt water. But it is an amazing (and somewhat creepy) thing to come into a dark room with a saltwater aquarium and see a dozen or so glowing eyes peering out of the darkness at you. They aren't very common though, and I can count on one hand how many times I have seen them. They are also brutally expensive.
Excellent video. Love the chat+maintenance videos.
Hello! Loved your videos for a while and all the links in your description are very helpful too. But would you be able to also provide links for the larger tanks you use (current link is only the 1ft x 1ft x 1ft version, and there does not appear to be size options or an alternate listing for the larger ones on the seller's page) and the stands (finding good stands that also look nice is hard but yours seem great)? Thanks so much!
I live in Chicago, and I rinse my pre-filter and internal sponges (Tidal 75) under tap water for a couple of minutes without any issue to my aquarium.
Also, you forgot to move the plant that was dying from lack of shade underneath the log.
MD - you are really missing out not using something like wave pumps by SIcce to point up at the surface of your display tanks!
You apparently don't have to clean your sponge filter in the tank water in setups like yours. Prime Time Aquatics made a great video about it. He has a phd in biology & is a professor, so he knows what he's talking about
I always throw out a bucket of floating plants every few weeks. Actually it might be red-root floaters, but sadly it's mixed with duckweed (fish never eat it all), so I'd need to weed it out before selling or throw away.
As the chlorine and sponges go, it's probably fine, unless municipalities raised the amount of chlorine the water smells like bleach or swimming pool.
Would love to see a “weird and wonderful” tank. I have African dwarf frogs and I can’t stop watching them! They pair so well with my neons
Iz killin' me watching ya toss that black gold doen the drain indted if unto plants
Those red root floaters are just insane! So pretty. I’ve always loved the look of terrestrial plants in the tanks, I want to try that.
I have realized that you have my literal dream job. I could live in this aquarium room, seriously. Are you hiring interns/any other positions??? Mentees? lol. I would pack up and move tomorrow. I'm not joking.
13:47 Oooooooooh kinky!
I enjoy these maintenance/hang out videos! 😃
On rinsing filter media in tap water: totally fine on well established media. You're not going to put a dent in the bacteria from a routine rinse in chlorinated water. The only time you might want to be a little more careful about this is if you have a brand new tank, brand new media, and are trying to cultivate the bacteria as quickly as possible. Using tap water in this instance won't kill all your progress but it might, I assume, slow the process just a bit. I mean if you're got new tank bacterial bloom going on in your tank presently, yeah dump some dechlorinator in your water before rinsing the filter media.
Can you please tell me what is the best hideout for a red tail shark?
Hi md how many liters is the tank the dwarf gouramis are in?
So for me frog bit and Salvina does the best. I also have Ricciocarpos Natans and it's doing really good.
I wish my plants did as well as yours. It might be because the Fluval Flex light isn't strong enough, but I need the cover so that my dwarf crayfish doesn't just decide to explore out of the tank.
Angels are beautiful ❤watching from 🇦🇺
how do you have floating plants with an airstone mine always puts water on top of the leaves no matter how low I set the airstone
I do have quite a problem with duckweed right now. Like you think you got it all out but you missed a single piece that was hiding somewhere and its growing so damn fast.
The angel fish really watch you intently! 🙂
yeah they wanted food but they did not get food in this episode.. @19:41 they thought they finally got it nope red root floaters 😅
@@n4b40I fed them right at the end of the video 😊
Such a beautiful tank! I love it!
I actually got rid of a lot of my floating plants. Too much maintenance 🙄 water fern, red root floaters, and Salvia. Still trying to eradicate duck weed. Kept water lettuce.
MD, do you have a favorite canister filter? I just bought a 65 gallon and I think I want to do a canister.
You should try having some halfbeak fish!! They have such a unique shape and face and are really cool
When are we getting a betta tank
Looking great as usual❤
Finaly gourami's! That took a while! Hopefully they do well and aren't that agrassive. btw, as always awsome video. Keep going!
Hej - that's a great tank 🌞
But if you've got any issure on hands, please weare gloves to clean up your filter. It may be a problem, getting fish-tuberkulose by yourself! It is not just a stich of bee!
Take care for your health and let's have fun in our hobby! 🌞👏🙋
MD you should do a predatory Amazon aquarium with wild type oscars😊
Great video and beautiful presented as usual.
those rosy barbs are very fun to feed but hard with easy going fish! My ropefish really disklike them xD
I’m surprised to see you growing such a thick layer of floaters completely covering your water surface. I understand that you are growing them to sell- but I know that YOU know that covering your surface is also depleting your water of oxygen and you can suffocate the other creatures and plants underneath the floaters. What am I missing? Can you please explain your thought process to me, as I’m always open to learning something new, and I certainly respect your opinions. Your tanks, as always, look fantastic! Looking forward to hearing from you! Thanks!
What light are you using in that tank mate ?
I liked floaters for awhile but they're just becoming a hassle in every tank as they grow so fast and cut out light. I get why people use them though. I guess I shouldn't have used them in so many tanks.
If you had beneficial bacteria living in the pre-filter it would not be enough to upset any balance between tank or filter if you killed it cleaning it.. far more bacteria lives in the ceramic or tank/scape. I always clean pre-filter sponges under a tap or in the sink and generally use hot water too..👍
Have you considered that floaters might reduce algae because they block out a lot of the light?
great footage, would love to see it in HDR :)
How come you don't film at the fish shop anymore ? I enjoyed that part of your videos. Other then that still liking the content. 👍🏻
You should save that fish poop water to fertilize your plants!! It works great😃
Didn’t you once film from the inside with some sort of small waterproof camera? I would love to see more like that. That would be unique and interesting.
Do you sell/ ship any of that red floating plant? I really would like some. I’m in Tennessee USA
Amazing, from Bali watching
Love, love, love your aquariums 💙🐠
I'd like to see how the monstera are affixed into the aquarium. Is it in another video?
I wish I could buy your red root floaters but I don’t live in the UK 😢
Give me some red root floaters.. seen your video since few years ago😂
